Preventing Sprint Customizations on Boot - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

What are the pros and cons of pulling the battery before the sprint customizations? What programs or customizations do you lose and are there any that I would miss (internet settings or anything important like that). Also, I believe that you can get the cabs for the removed programs from DCD's rom page correct? I'm still learning on this, but I'd eventually like to be cooking my own roms to get exactly what I want in there.

The Sprint customizations are all ****ware and serve no useful purpose. Just hit the soft reset button when you see the "it will automatically customize your device in 3 seconds" window.
Internet and phone settings are already controlled in a separate area of the phone. As for the dialup setting, if you don't have it, you can always set one up to dial #777 with no username/password and you should be fine.

Activesync push email delay

I'm experiencing a ~15 minute delay on push email from my company's exchange server. I first noticed this a week or 2 after flashing to DCD 3.2.6. Yesterday, I flashed to DCD 3.3.4 in hopes that this would help to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, I am still experiencing the delay. Is this a known issue, and is there some way to tweak / fix this?
Rom: DCD 3.3.4
Radio: 3.42.50
Carrier: VZW
Many Variables
Hi c3rb3rus,
I actually found that DCD's and No2Chem's ROMs improved the push e-mail on my xv6800. I remember the dark ages, when the original, non-GPS VZW stock ROM had all those problems with missed alarms and notifications.
Having said that, I still get sporadic delays, via two mechanisms:
1) The rlToday plugin (using s2w blackdrop) shows that an e-mail has arrived, yet my xv6800 does not generate a notification. This happens more frequently when I have Messaging running in the background (as opposed to 'completely closed' with Quickmenu)
2) Activesync just does not fully 'check' enough times, even with the sync schedule set to "as items arrive" with "sync on roaming" enabled. I am playing around with the following registry key to see if things improve:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Activesync
In this key, you'll see settings like "InitialHeartBeat" and "Maxheartbeat." I am currently playing with these settings to see if my Activesync response time increases.
There is an MSDN article on the heartbeat settings. From what I understand, if the server has nothing new after eight minutes, the next "polling" time is delayed. It gets delayed more and more, when finally... Smack! An e-mail comes 15 minutes after it was originally set.
The link to the article is in the following thread (should be the first post):
http://www.ppcsg.com/lofiversion/index.php/t75611.html
I believe there are some nice XDA Threads that talk about this article, as well. I'll definitely search the archives when my schedule loosens up a bit.
I have only tested my new registry settings for a day -- I'll spam this thread like crazy if things significantly improve.
Sync Delay: Update!
I think there's an improvement. My registry settings follow below, and they drastically differ from the default values.
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Activesync
MinHeartBeat = 120
InitialHeartBeat = 180
MaxHeartBeat = 420
HeartBeatIncrement = 60
My results so far, over the past 48 hours:
- I got 31 e-mails, 26 arrived instantly with proper notifications, 2 were delayed by a few minutes.
- 2 e-mails arrived on time but did not generate a proper notification.
- 1 e-mail was screwed up -- I got a proper notification, but it arrived nearly 40 minutes after it was sent! I don't know what happened here.
Overall, 1 out of 31 nerfed e-mails isn't that bad... Much better than the occasional 10-20 minute delays I had in the past.
It looks like the new registry settings have improved my Exchange sync issues, but I'll have to keep testing over the next few weeks to ensure that this isn't a placebo effect.
I haven't tried DCD's 3.3.4 ROM yet (I was using NueROM-M up to now). I've flashed with DCD's latest to see if there are any differences in e-mail sync. More updates to follow later on.
Spoke too soon
I see...
I think the Power Management of features of DCD 3.3.4 are a bit different from those in NueROM-M, as I am now experiencing the same delays you're getting.
With 3.3.4, Activesync does not like to sync when the phone is sleeping. If I uncheck the "turn off very x minutes" box in the power options, and just turn the screen off with Quickmenu, the e-mail 'delays' go away. This is not a huge issue for me, since I use an extended battery.
I'm sure the differences are limited to a few different registry settings between both ROMs. Perhaps I'll fiddle with the "DisablePowerManagement" settings in the registry to see if it changes anything.
I should add that I have experienced this issue with all Titan ROMs, custom or stock. However, in my experience, it happens to a lesser degree with DCD's WM6.1 ROMs and Pre3, and yet even moreso with NueROM-M.
I like the speed of 3.3.4, so I'll probably stick with that and turn off the screen via Quickmenu. I'm guessing it's not the solution you had in mind , but I am convinced that these e-mail delays are directly related to power management.
Wow, thanks for the indepth replies! By turning the screen off with the Quickmenu, do you mean the power button?
I'm going to give the disabling 'turn off every x minutes' a try to see how that effects things.
Strangely, I never noticed this issue on the stock ROMs, but there is no way I'm going back to them. I'll let you know how it turns out.
just to chime in. I've only used stock DCD roms for my phone and now on scott's M2D stock rom. we run an exchange 2007 server and i get emails to my phone a few seconds faster than my outlook 2007 and i'm on the same switch as my servers.
I seriously think it's an issue with the server unless you're the only winmo 6.1 user with this problem?
I've thought of that, and even asked other people at my company with win mobile phones if they have any kinda of delay. They all seem to be fine. I used to get emails on my phone before I did in outlook, but after going to a custom ROM this is what happened.
Maybe it had something to do with the radio version? I'm running 3.42.50
Another update
Unfortunately, I had some touchscreen lagging and stability issues with 3.3.4 (strange... probably a bad flash on my part), and decided to switch back to nueROM-M.
I haven't gotten many e-mails recently, but since switching back to nueROM-M, the delay seems to have vanished once again . I agree, this is really weird. When I get slammed with e-mails after the weekend, I'll confirm if this is indeed the case.
One thing I did notice is that the "DisablePowerManagement" registry settings are all "1" in DCD 3.3.4, but they are all "0" in nueROM-M. However, the fact that Jas0nMack is not getting any delays leads me to believe that these registry setings are not the key.
By the way, When I meant Quickmenu, I meant this app, which replaces your start menu with a cascading menu:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-quickmenu-v2-7.html
There's an option in QuickMenu to turn off the screen without turning off the phone. If you use this (in combination with disabling the "turn off in x minutes" option in the power settings), and the e-mail delays go away, then we'll know that it's a power issue. This is how I diagnosed the delays I was getting on my xv6800, during my stock ROM days...

Newbie questions

Hello,
I'm a s740 proud new owner. I've been playing with this gadget for the past few days and I must say I'm very satisfied. Apart from some problems (battery, small call buttons) the phone is really great. However I have some questions that I'd like to know.
1) Are there any power management tweaks you use. Apart from the options in the phone do you do anything else in order to save battery?
2) How customizable is the home screen? What can I change from it? For example the Internet Explorer bar or adding other menus.
3) Is there any way to have "shortcuts" for apps ? Example "new sms" or for any other app. Going through the programs menu is tiresome.
4) Is there any option to restart the phone? No reset, just restart, without having to turn it off and on again manually.
5) Do you use the in-built calendar or did you add other apps for dates etc.
6) Can I "lock" the data connection? I usually use Wi-Fi or Internet throught the USB. Some programs (e.g. Messenger or browser) turn on the data connection without me knowing. Is there any way I can avoid this?
7) Do you use voice tags for apps and contacts? Is it satisfactory?
And last (but very important for me):
8) Which app do you use for mp3 and audio? The Audio Manager, WMP or any other app? Which do you think is the best. The wired headset has only "volume up and down" function? Not anything else? Are there other headsets that are compatible and if so can you control the audio apps without having to use the phone?
I know it's much, but any answer(s) would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot

1) Try turning off 3G/HSDPA (unless you need it)
2) Search for CHomeConfigurator
3) Yes there are. You can even put them on the home screen (again, CHomeConfigurator is the easiest method)
4) There is, but I forgot how to do that.
5) I use the inbuilt one because it can switch the phone to silent automatically during meetings
6) Yes you can. Try searching Modaco NoData
7) Nope, don't use it. I find the automatic search for contacts efficient enough (e.g. you want to call dad, just punch in 3-2-3 and it should be right there. Even works if you are looking for the phone number, etc.)
8) I use PocketPlayer together with an AD2P bluetooth headset (Jabra BT3030). Works quite well; skip, back, play, pause, pick up call and vol up/down work with this.
Hope that helps,

1) I find 3G is fine for stand-by but uses more battery for talking, so it depends how you use your phone. However, its best to select the right bands for your country/region. this is in settings->phone->band select. Also make sure the key-lock is on. Settings -> key lock
2) yeah, chrome. Not full control as no HardSPL unfortunately
3) ..
4) you can try a free app that can reset, look on freewareppc for something like this:

5) have a look at handango. agenda one and pocket informant are good examples:

6) not sure if this still works:

7) nope
8) loads. free ones:

Thanks guys, you are really great.
Chrome seems a bit difficult for me, but I see there is a lot of feedback for it in this forum, so I'll give it a try.
Modaco NoData works fine until now. Although I had to disable "GPRS" "Internet" and "MMS" because if I let MMS enabled then Skyfire would open a data connection. That means I won't be receiving any MMS at all?
I'll check the players. Are there any "wired" headsets that also have buttons for "play, next, etc"?
Is there a compatibility issue with bluetooth stereo headsets or I can buy anything I want? (Although bluetooth consumes a lot of battery and I think I'd prefer a wired set).
Thanks again for your feedback

MMS uses normal data, so is effected by anything that effects data
Wired play, next and volume (you can use your own headphones)

Any experience with CHome Configurator? I've added a panel but I the icons appear only when in Landscape mode.

nah
i like the std menu
its a question of remembering the numbers on wm sp
for example, lock keyboard is top button->2
just as fast as, say, nokia, left smart->*
my 2 cents

Numbers are great - nevertheless, it this case hold End Call button is much faster and convenient, IMHO...
Yeah, I use the hold end key too.
The power key is way to up and I'm lazy.
Standard menu is good, however I needed shortcuts to some applications and I made them (for example MP3 player, FM Radio, Resco etc) in a new panel. But there are some problems with the icons. I saw other s740 users complaining about that in the CHome topics and I was curious if someone has made it work.

Well, one possibility is to extract the icon from the corresponding exe (use xn resource editor for example). Me for one, I just use the speed dial function. e.g. press and hold 5 on home screen brings up resco explorer. yes, you'd have to remember a couple of numbers, but i find it faster than flicking through a dozen links in a panel to find the prog i need.
I mostly use the speed dials for contacts.
However I found a solution for the problem (not a full solution) with CHome. To whoever might be interested:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3945973&postcount=28
Solution for the Icon Panels and semi-solution for pictures.
I have a couple of other questions.
First of all in the "Call History" I only see the numbers or the contacts of my phone calls. However there is neither the time, nor the date, something I find annoying. Is there a solution ?
Second, I will buy another stereo headset for listening to music. I noticed that when I have bluetooth turned on the battery lasts less. Would a bluetooth stereo headset be very power consuming? Has anyone used one? Should I buy a regular headset like the one from colonel's link above?
And also, are the HTC headsets good or should I check out other brands too?
In Call History, select a contact and click the centre navigational button to bring up a list of calls for that contact.
Regarding the locking of S740 keypad via invoking the power button and pressing 2, the quicklist process is actually running as a result. Not much of a problem, but you may wanna reduce the no. of processes running on the phone.
Thanks, not the best thing but surely something of a solution.
I discovered a problem the past few days. The clock has changed time twice. Any idea ?
It changed both time zone and time (showing a random, wrong time even for the new time zone). Has anyone experienced something like that ?

I've experienced this once, but with a Nokia.
My phone clock was set on automatic and it changed several times during a few days. I expect the cause was the phonecompany.
AVE...
I'm using stereo headset from Samsung, and I have Bluetooth active all the time. Didn't made a big difference for me. But whatever I tried I still wasn't able to make Pocket Player compatible with control buttons on my headset...
CHome Configurator didn't worked well for me. In fact it didn't worked at all...
For now I'm playing around with voice commands...These are great for launching apps...
BTW, I had to disable HDSPA, since it turned on to transfer data without asking me for permission, and my operator has a lot bigger fees for HDSPA, than for GPRS...
Any idea about the MMS receiving size? Although there is an option for changing the MMS size for the ones you send (from 100k to 300k), I didnt find anything for incoming MMS. I already have some MMS which I cannot use because it tells me that the exceed the receiving size I have set. Any idea about that?
Is there any way that when I use Windows Live Messenger the stupid thing doesnt transfer all my MSN contacts to my contacts? I don't need that. The sync options in Windows Live are greyed out and I can't change them
Edit: I found the solution for Messenger here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513643
However in the process I lost all my Messenger contacts from my PC, which I saved by the trick mentioned in the topic above
MMS: It's simple - limits are set by operator. Check settings as declared by definitions of your tariff/custom settings.
Will do, although as I said I changed my limit to 300k for sending while it seems I cannot accept larger than 100k files.
I'll check it out and see.
These are logically two diferent variables. What want to send is your choice per case. What your phone will receive directly, you have to pay for amount of data. And you have no other control as the limit. Therefore default settings for reception are rather conservative.
Something else, is there any way to change the "low battery" notification? It is on 20% and I would like to lower that because I think 20% is way too high.

Complete Noob To Android and Galaxy

Hey guys! I recently purchased my galaxy from Telus and I must say it's a lovely device. Just a few cons for me is that it's a bit big and the volume rocker button is pretty loose. Other than that everything is just perfect
I just have a few questions if people could take their spare time to help out
1) How do you disable data usage? I tried pulling down the notification bar but there is no data off/on switch, only wifi.
2) If say I have data and wifi simultaneity on, what will exactly happen? Will wifi take over and automatically shut off the data?
3) Is there a way to automatically stop the use of data by having a restriction set up so for example once I hit 980mb, I won't be able to use the data unless I override and make it possible to continue using it. (Is watchdog a perfect app for this?)
4) The wifi/data icon on the status bar, what does the orange arrow going down mean and the other arrow facing up? The arrow facing downwards for my wifi keeps blinking orange/hang and goes back to grey. (Does it mean there something downloading in the background?)
5) What are some ways to improve the battery life of the phone?
6) Is there a way to remove "ME" on the contact list?
7) When I charge the phone through my laptop, it doesn't heat up but through the wall, the charging brick is rather hot. Is this safe?
8) To open the back cover, do you just put your nail/finger tip through the back hole and just use brute force to rip it off or is there something else? I feel like I'm gonna break the cover or the little edge/dimples on the sides of the cover where it fits into the back :l
9) Is there any way to change the brightness through maybe the status bar (moving fingers from right to left increases brightness and vise versa for left to right?) or maybe through notification bar?
10) Also should I have the sync icon on at all times in the notification bar?
11) Also is samsung kies needed? Whats the benefit of having it?
12) I really appreciate the help guys, and last not but least, what are some useful/"needed/essential" apps to help or make life easier for the phone?
This is my first smartphone as I've been using my old lg chocolate for some time now and it just incredible how diverse the android os is but at the same time confusing and stressful to add what and such. I have so many things I want to do with the phone atm but stressful to figure out what to do in order lol.
I'm planning on rooting the phone after I save the contacts to my google.
Thanks everyone!

Make sure you read what I wrote at the bottom too...
1) Disable by going into settings>mobile networks>data enabled (check or uncheck)
2) Disable data usage for a set limit under settings>more>set data limit. This will turn off mobile data when the limit you set is reached.
3) Answered in 2.
4) Wifi turned on and connected means your data is only going across wifi network, cell data no being used.
5) Improved battery life is really achieved through a new rom and kernel. Anything else is really a gimmick, except screen brightness.
6) Not that I'm aware of.
7) The wall charger charges at a higher rate/higher rating so that will always make sense. It's fine.
8) Yes
9) Not on stock unless you have a custom theme or locker app. Just root and use a different rom (Task650's is always the best IMO).
10) You probably have a sync error. Go to settings>Accounts and Sync and look through your account to see what is going on. THere may be one item checked that needs to be unchecked and rechecked.
11) Kies will install the proper drivers but depending on what you need now, it's not really a necessity. More info.
12) Swype Beta

Well for better battery life try turning off the motion activated actions within the settings. I found that I can easily add about another hour of total usage once disabling these. Turn off smart stay as well. Also if your going to use google chrome, going into the settings and turn off enable tilt scrolling

How to kill the Android 8.1 "Turn off mobile data?" popup?

I'm running Lineage 15.1 on my Moto G5 Plus and I have to say I'm very satisfied with everything in the new release with the exception of one thing: the annoying popup it gives you when you turn off mobile data. Does anyone know how to turn this off? It's driving me nuts, reminds me of my old Samsung.
Any help, suggestions, or simply +1s are appreciated.
I'd like to know that too. Mighty annoying little popup.
Why Android, Why?
So makes me want to toss my phone every time, multiple times a day, all day long.
YES, I'm f** sure, that's why i clicked it and additionally that's why I put it in a list of fixed quick commands because I fully am aware exactly what the f*** it's suppose to do.
It's a popup that covers 85% of my screen that can be swiped away ONLY if you DO NOT want it to do what you want, why is this backwards. Asking Bixby or Google to turn of mobile data as part of a list of commands is not possible, ie. "I'm home" is set up to 1.turn on wi-fi 2.Turn off mobile data 3.Open calendar - What happens instead is 1.wi-fi-on 2.attempt to mobile data off - popup for confirmation 3.opens calendar - But mobile data never turns off because the popup was never confirmed, so for all I know I get booted off wi-fi and am streaming movies on mobile data. So makes Bixby and Goggle "quick commands" USELESS to me. Forcing me to touch my phone more often than I should have to, forcing me to really think that Android may believe we are as clueless to customization as iOS users, Forcing me to have to stop and stare at phone in disgust
Do I really need to be told 6 times a day this same message over and over? On top of the daily harassment of 2 dozen popups about damaging my hearing from loud volume. IT'S MY HEARING !
Where is the "Don't show again" button? Why need a confirmation instead of just a notification? You want to tell me that wifi is disconnected - sure, tell me data is off/on - sure thanks, but why is there an extra button to push for anything to happen anymore. Not very "Smart" these days, OR they think we're not as smart these days. IDK but I need a fix, anybody?
I know how u feel bro am having the same problem on my asus zenfone max pro.
I searched everywhere.
Haven't found a clue how to.

Google either choose simplification or flat out removed the setting. As for why in some sense it makes things simpler for developers and virtually most (not all obviously). Linked two articles out of the multiple google search results below that pertain to the question.
I maybe totally going out on a limb to guess (and I am, not something I am to fond of doing honestly) since GPS/Location services only turns on when it is needed maybe the option was unnecessary?
Granted the choice would be nice, but so far I haven't seen anything in my usage that shows GPS location is a battery killer. In fact I get a lot more active use out of my phone now as it is then I did previously on Oreo, which is rather nice IMHO.

fyi...
The option seems to be there.
On the Pixel phones you can enable it via "developer options" -> "featured flag"
Samsung decided to ditch this feature flag, why i don't know.
But with tasker and my unrooted S9 i could enable the battery saving mode.
Although you can't verify i think it works.
As i use Life360 which triggers the GPS when opened and haven't seen the GPS icon since i toggled to battery saving mode.
So as lomg as it works i'm happy.
Task:
Location Mode - > Mode: battery Saving
