One thing I liked with the HTC/Telus S720 I had for a brief while (I think others call it the Wing?) was the T9 text entry from its phone keypad - most times I found it faster and more efficient than sliding the thing open to use the QWERTY keyboard. The on-screen keyboards are only marginally useful - even the Resco keyboard with widely-spaced keys is a PITA because you need to switch between alpha and numeric modes so much.
What would be really cool on the Titan/Mogul/P4000 is a version of the dial keypad for T9 text entry, ideally using the same outstanding T9 engine the S720 has.
IS there such a thing??
HTC Apps thread in top most forum section of this forum called "Development and Hacking" you may find something if you look really hard.
you can always try the "elf's" "touchflo" keyboard-keypad it will give you t9 capabilities, but they are probly the worst ever t9 texting prog's ive ever seen since the #'s and letters are on the same keys on the keyboard, it gets really confused as the elf has no keyboard and the mogul does...
my 2 cents

My wife is looking to upgrade her phone and wants a smartphone but not an iphone. After looking around she's deciding on the x10 mini series.
She's a bit old skool and still prefers predicitive typing and not a proper/virtual keyboard.
Our question is if you can still use the old numeric/predicitive keyboard on the pro like you do on the non-pro version. We've tested a few devices and noticed that in the messaging app it forces you to use the slide out keyboard, is this so? or is there a setting to stop this?
Basically she likes texting/typing with one hand and only will use the keyboard if typing an email if she really has to..
Look forward to the answer.
Thanks
Bal
Yes, you can
You can install an app call Smart Keyboard or Tiny Keyboard to have a Full QWERTY on-screen keyboard. (Or you can use the default on-screen keyboard of the X10 mini pro)
You just slide out the keyboard whenever you want to
i use anysoft keyboard, which is free and is the only one i found a portuguese dictionary for (i am brazillian). do those cited support using the system dictionary, or do they have different languages?
SmartKey board supports user-defined dictionary but does not support any other languages
I Always use T9 predictive on my Mini Pro, it comes with the phone, and i didnt need to install any other app
I have used many Qwerty keypads-Softwares on my Mini but at last felt very comfortable with the default t9 predictive keypad..
Adding words in it is very very easy....
BTW.
I have seen the mini pro and the only additions are:
+Qwerty keypad(Not that great. For those who just want hardware keys go for it.)
+UI works in Landscape mode also
+BETTER BATTERY BACKUP(dunno why)
Cons are:
-Abit heavy
-an ok keypad
-It looks really thick and bulky
Personally if you are ok with these above factors then go for pro.
Else go for just the mini
I own it and its just great- Except for battery backup
Can somebody tell me if it is possible somehow to turn voice input from stock keyboard? I looked in settings but couldn't find it. Also, do you use other keyboards? I got used to use HTC IME by jonasl, but now on 1280x720 it is obviously to small for the screen. I am testing Smart Keyboard now which is pretty fimiliar to HTC IME and has the option of voice input. I don't like Swipe as I never swipe, got used to "click" symbols. I would continue using stock keyboard if not the lack of voice input.
Sent from my Tapatalk using freaking awesome LT26i Sony Xperia S.
I use smart keyboard Pro. Been using it since the X10 days, love it.
Im using "Ice cream sandwich keyboard free"
works well, and gives you the voice input button there too
I'm typing quite a bit quicker on this keyboard as well, seems to be working for me.
give it a go
I've always used thumb keyboard on any android device I use. Has good customization options and keyboard themes.
I use ICS keyboard full ..
It have a good arabic letters layout, and I use gestures to change language, close keyboard , and delete last word ..
I works great in this big screen and just take a little space of the screen ..
even I already purchased Swiftkey X, but I feel more comfortable with ICS keyboard ..

Anyone know a 3x4 portrait keyboard the same or similar as stock S3 4.1.1 with ability to add own words to install because Samsung f***ed up again with 4.1.2 and I just don't like portrait qwerty keyboards.
Are you asking for a T9 Keyboard?
Look up "T9 keyboard android" and try out some that look good?
As for the custom words, you can add them manually into the personal dictionary or use an app which keeps it's own custom dictionary.
Might I suggest to try out SwiftKey. I am pretty sure it does not support a T9 layout, but the QWERTY keyboard by them is amazing, and the word prediction after using it for a few weeks is just incomparable to other keyboards.
Yeah it's just the T9 3x4 numeric portrait pad I'm looking for, and I've tried loads from the market but just can't find any that work the same as a normal numeric pad, and I've tried qwerty portrait pads but just find them awkward and slow. And this is such a major problem for me I'm gonna have to downgrade to 4.1.1 if I can't find an answer.
Well in that case you just need the 4.1.1 Keyboard APK. I do not have enough knowledge to help you with this. But there is a thread here about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952804
You can look around on google for "android 4.1.1 keyboard apk" and hopefully find something that will help you.
I really hope you can get it working with your current ROM so that you do not need to downgrade.
Wish it was that simple mate... But it doesn't work like normal keyboard IMEs because it's a system integrated App, and they changed the keypad on 4.1.2 so much that nothing from 4.1.1 will work without major mods.

Currently I'm running the jellybam rom and was wondering if there were any mods or apps or options I'm missing to change the qwerty keypad in portrait to a t9 style keypad like in sense roms. I've noticed most senseless roms are missing this option and I'm old school and prefer the t9 myself. any help is appreciated thanks

(I accidentally hit Q&A instead of regular post)
I am on the hunt for a new keyboard but have a few requirements.
I am currently using Jelly Bean Keyboard but it's showing its age and not playing well on Lollipop and the Dev appears to have abandoned it.
I like the long press on the letters for frequently used characters. I like that it has emojis as well as emoticon (standard text messaging symbol smileys). I like the swype. It is basically, actually exactly the CyanogenMod/AOSP Keyboard and would like something similar. All the keys are in convienient spots unlike other keyboards with long press. Importantly also it has a dedicated number row at the top.
I tried porting the CM keyboard by extracting the APK and latinime but it always either crashed or swipe didn't work.
Before you answer, Google Keyboard ≠ AOSP Keyboard.
