Verizon - Service after Radio & ROM Update on XV6800 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I recently flashed my phone with the new Sprint ROM and then put in the DCD 3.0.1 before the customizations. But does anyone else notice that whenever they are in a phone call the phone switches into the 1x and not the EV network?? Is there a fix that is known, I looked on the forum and couldn't find one or anyone with the same problem.

This is normal. When you make a call you don't use EVDO. That is only for data connections.

1xRTT = Phone & SMS
EVDO = Data & MMS
The device automatically pauses the data connection when it receives a phone call or text message. After the call is ended, or text message is received, the device reactivates the data.

Yes but in the past if I am not mistaken didnt the phone's display show the EV although using 1x?? I know it makes no difference but just asking.

My XV6800 always changed to 1x during voice calls.

Same Here.
Even on the stock ROM the icons changed while I received a text message or a call.

Was all in your head son

on a similar subject, while this has nothing to really do with upgrading or flashing i was curious to know whether sending MMS and Texts count against my data if i have a text messaging plan with verizon.
Boy do i feel like a noob in here...
My last phone was a samsung a850...

Text messages do not use EVDO, so therefore are not counted as data as I said before.
MMS uses data to transmit, but is not counted as "pay per megabyte" data.

Phone call and Data use at the same time

I use to have the PPC-6700(Apache) and recently switched to the PPC-6800(Titan).
Previously I was able to use voice and data at the same time. One thing I have noticed is when there is a phone call the signal drops to 1X.
I do remember there was a registry hack that allows voice and data on at the same time.
Thank-you
Not really sure how you got voice and data going at the same time when no one else can. EV-DO is data only, which means you absolutely cannot have voice and data going at the same time. If you're using data, and you get a phone call or SMS, the phone pauses the data, once the call or sms has finished, the phone unpauses the data. That's how the technology works bro. Unless you got your own towers utilizing EV-DV, I'm pretty much positive you didn't have them both working at the same time.

Who knows he could have been using a WiFi connection and talking at the same time. He was a bit vague with his comment.

It's possible, but he did point out the fact that the phone switches to 1x with a phone call, so that leads me to believe he's talking about evdo data and voice at the same time which is not possible.
I just wanted to comment on this as I have been looking for something similar and did not want to open a fresh thread. What the OP was referring to is the Apache. I had the Apache and can confirm that there was a registry hack that allowed browsing while on a phone call. I wish I can find this information to see if it applies to the mogul because it would be a great feature to have. (ie. The Wife calls "BABY!! Im totally lost, please help me, Im on the corner of Stop and One Way. 'swtiches to landscape, clicks on google maps, saves the day'"
Thanks
I thought I remember reading somewhere that a way to test if EVDO rev.A is working properly is that EVDO rev.A is supposed to support both a phone call and data at the same time.
I can't remember where I read that though and I've never got it to work.

Yeah, I do remember reading somewhere about this also. I know it shouldn't make sense, but it works. Also, we'll probably see Rev. B not too far off in the future, which will allow for VoIP over standard data connections (not WiFi)

Data Blocking Calls?

Hi,
Anyone aware of incoming calls not getting through, e.g. going straight to voicemail, when you're browsing the web or whatever? Or is thi to be expected?
Thanks

GPRS/EDGE will drop calls. 3G and HSDPA, to my knowledge, won't.
Maybe you were not in the 3G coverage?

Its a known issue where 2g networks cant cope with active data connections and a voice call and divert straight to voicemail. 3G doesnt with the capacity.

the problem is that I could expect this when I am actually browsing or something but most annoying is that this does happen even when the phone is on the standby not doing anything (it must be downloading some data in the background though)
and frequency with which it drops 3g and changes to 2g and back doesn't help it in anyway... connection is very very unstable...
I guess its down to sensitivity or buggy radio rom.
i have the same problem here with eplus in germany. the normal behaviour would be, that the data flow is interrupted on incoming call and the call gets routed through. after the call ends the data connection will be set to active again. this is how my WM Phone handled calls during an active data connection. there are a lot of people with similar problems in a german forum. i thought that this is a network issue but it seems that it is a htc here related issue. If so, that would be very a major issue as the android OS and hero are build for beeing online most of the time. Anybody tried a different radio version?

Its not a phone issue, its a network issue. Its to do with NOM1 and NOM2 and how the network prioritises calls/data.
The network should either send a request to the phone (only some phones can handle the request though) to terminate the data or the network should cancel it on their end first and then route the call through. Most networks don't seem to do this.
Changing radio version will not rectify this issue
but obviously there is something that has to be done because it potentially will affect ALL android devices if they use so much background data.
Seriously it cannot be acceptable that phone will simply not ring just because it was checking email or updating weather...

At&t users with galaxy s2 international, mms problem need help please....

I am in the US and have a international galaxy s2 on AT&T...My phone is fully rooted, and I am currently running Batista70 FOXHOUD EDITION 2.1 but i cant seem to get my mms on a consistant basis....I have tried several roms so I am pretty sure it isnt that, I can send mms and have a great 3g signal but most of the time I cant recieve my mms...I can browse the internet and download from the market just fine but there again I cant seem to get the mms to recieve...It seems like on a fresh rom install i get the mms fine but then after a day or so I go back to not being able to recieve one at all...I have tried different apn settings and have made sure I am on the right AT&T data plan (HSDPPB) as mentioned in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983) and I still cant get anything consistant on RECIEVING! It has really been agravating and I would love to figure out what I can do to get this working right, I dont know if it is the modem software??? Is it my apn settings??? I have tried different things and still nothing so any help would greatly be apprecitated and I have noticed alot of other people in threads seem to be having this problem so if we can figure it out I would love to make a thread to help out others...thanks in advance...
did you talk to your provider, they may have adjust or refresh your account settings from their end.
That's very weird actually, i used to have issues sending MMS but i never had any issues receiving them.

i have talked to at&t and finally got them to change my account and settings so I know for 100% that I am on the right rate plan and settings......
I to was having problems with MMS on ATT but my problem was sending them not receiving though. After I was sure I had the correct apn setting a customer services specialist had me do this. Try opening your phone dial pad and entering *5005*7672*+13123149810# then the green phone button. This is suppose to reset your sms/mms setting back with the network. Long and behold it fixed my problem of sending mms.
just to double check something - are you leaving your data (edge or 3g) enabled? disabling the phone's data connection will prevent mms from coming through.

[Q] Voice Mail icon

So after upgrading to ICS I have a voice mail icon on my notification bar. This is a data only device for me with no access to voice mail does anybody have an way to clear the icon?
Kirby
Ditto! Had it since first upgrading myself. Just figured out you can slide notifications away after pulling em all up, but sadly that one won't budge.
It's not a big problem, but does get rather annoying.
Has anyone tried removing the phone apks?

This does remove the notification but borks the entire system. No cellular reception at all if you remove the phone.apk and .odex.
similar issue here
I got my Mediapad 2 weeks ago and had to get a new TMO SIM to make calls (old SIM refused to connect to network). I have had the new voicemail icon ever since and I have not upgraded or rooted anything. I'm looking forward to getting a clue on this mystery!

The typical way to get rid of this is to call yourself and leave a voicemail then delete that voicemail. I've had this problem on Android devices in general on the last few iterations of the OS. The problem with the Mediapad is that most of us have a data only plan on our tablets.
I had a similar problem when I asked T-Mo to disable voicemail on my prepaid SIM. Ever since, any device I plug the SIM into remains convinced that there's a new voicemail. This has remained the case for 1.5 years now. Perhaps this is an overall problem with their provisioning of accounts that don't have voice/voicemail.

So getting a new SIM could possibly resolve the issue.

I doubt it. For an unrelated reason I had to do a SIM swap on one of my trips to the USA, and the VM icon problem persisted through to the new SIM.
I think it's an issue in the way the accounts are provisioned. And T-Mobile hasn't managed to figure out a solution because I tried with them several times.
Come on guys simple solution.go to settings->apps->look for phone app and clear data/cache if this doesnt work do the same to the dialer app. This only clears that pesky voicemail notifacation.doesnt clear voicemail inbox

For me at least this won't work because I have neither a phone app or a dialer app. Nothing to clear, I personally think this is a provisioning issue that T-Mobile needs to deal with.

That's the only way I know how to remove the voicemail icon. Can your device use the wifi calling feature? Maybe then you can do what the quote says...
FOUND IT!
I have a T-Mobile Springboard running ICS as well. I went to settings->apps->Mobile Data... and hit Clear Data. It should immediately get rid of the stupid VM icon and I still have access to the mobile data.

Rkwhyte,
It is found in Settings->Applications->All apps->Mobile Data
from there select Clear data and BOOM the voicemail icon goes away. Don't touch mobile network configuration though.

The only problem I see though is if I turn the device completely on then turn it on again the VMail icon appears again. But that's okay. At least I know how to clear it when I'm working on my tablet so that I don't accidentally touch it again (which I've done many times).
I have the same issue with my tablet plan :crying:

[Q] Send pictures while in a call

So yesterday I'm on the phone and I go to send a picture to someone(MMS) and after a bit it came up with a box saying it failed and to retry now or later. I tried it a few more times and still nothing. I know my Galaxy S3 allowed me to send picture messages while in calls so is this a device limitation? Am I the only one experiencing this? Or is there a New law or something that doesn't allow picture sending while in calls for some reason?
Just wanted to get some feedback to see what other people are experiencing.

Which app were you trying to send it through? And no, there is no new law that would stop this.
Is it possible you were on wifi when you were trying? From what I understand Verizon devices will not send picture messages over wifi, they have to use the network.
Stock LG messaging app, stock dialer. Rooted device and that's about it. I noticed I actually do not need mobile data on to send and receive picture messages normally (not in a call) so I typically leave it off when I don't need it for data.
My setup when I tried was WiFi on and connected to my home network, mobile data off, and phone call present. Would not allow me to send the picture. I'll try it with data on later and see if it works.
Didn't think it was a law, Which is good. May be that the data was off. And yes Verizon phones do not send pictures through WiFi they do need mobile data for Verizon services (text,MMS).
Well weird.. Called my voicemail and sent a picture message to myself and it went through both with data on and off.
Well I must have had another issue last night where it wasn't wanting to send. Weird thing is it sent after I hit try again and was off the phone.
Only thing I could think of is that the area I was at before typically gets less coverage (although still 4g).
So I'm confused but as long as it works I'll be happy!
Any solutions please update us

I the solution was found. Apparently a fluke issue.
Yes, seems something else was the issue there. I figured it was the call because that was the main thing I was using the phone for. If I get anymore info on this I will share.
