lithium-poly or lithium-ion battery? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

I have a Cingular 8525 and it been locking up for no reason daily that I have to keep soft reseting and I don't even have any bad blocks so I am assuming it may be the battery going bad even it charging fine and look like holding charge but it a year old now and I am looking around to buy another battery for it.
One thing I notice there seem to be 2 different type of battery avaiable for it which are lithium-poly and lithium-ion, which type should I get for the 8525 or which one is better than the other and why?
Thanks for inputs and replies!

XDA DEAD! Battery shows 3.5v!

Does anybody out there know what may be wrong with my wee Wallaby? The battery fuse is gone, so i've jumpered it out but despite the battery voltage being 3.5v the unit wont start at all. It doesn't respond to any reset and I cant get it to enter bootloader mode. Any info would be appreciated, i'm an electronic engineer and noticed there are quite a lot components involved in the battery circuit.
Thanks.
Buy a replacement on ebay for 10 us . LOL Upgrade your wallaby its olddddddddddd
Yeah, i've ordered one already! I was unsure though if this was going to be a waste of cash. A whole £13! I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks for the reply.
I think you have probably fried the logic on the battery. As for upgrading, I think the Wallaby is the best value pda/phone available anywhere.
Hi there,
Got my new battery and low and behold it has brought my Wee Wallby back from the grave! The battery IC's must have been faulty, there's five pins on the circuit board for the motherboard to connect to so I reckon the battery logic is quite sophisticated.
Thanks for the help guys, I tried O2 in Glasgow but they didn't want to help at all unless the XDA was a warranty job.
I've also upgraded my ROM to the one and only XDA Developers special and I have to say it's a real improvement all round.
Goodnight gadget lovers!

Battery Problems, hermes dies after half an hour.

Hey guys, I've got a really annoying problem with my hermes.
My battery doesnt seemed to stay charged for more than about 30 minutes, the power just drains out of it. I bought a new battery to see if this would fix the issue, but the same thing happens with the new battery. Sometimes the device gets really hot as well.
I don't think its my Rom or Radio, but I'm going to try downgrading to WM5 just to test it out.
I was wondering if there may be a short somewhere that is causing this to happen?
Has anyone had this happen to them?
Any brilliant ideas as to what could be causing this?
Thanks,
-Kai
It is strange that it dies after 30 minutes!! I cannot think of a functionality that drains the power so fast, however, it possible that it is software related.
Has the device been subjected to high humidity?, could there be something short circuiting somewhere?
I hope it is a software issue that you can easily be overcome with a upgrade/downgrade.
Good luck.

I've been having this problem on & off ever since I got my device, seems to drain faster when running Messenger/Windows Live, I've down graded back to HTC OEM spec from Black Majik to send it in for repair. Now that I'm back on WM5 IPL 1.01, SPL 1.11 Radio 1.38, my batt is even worse than before. Some days my batt will last the whole day other days, without any significant reason I'd find the device warming up in my pocket, I'll find that it has depleted the battery from 90% to 30% in the space of 20 mins. The only way I can prevent the batt from further discharge would be to remove the battery for a few minutes & reinstall it again.
I complained to the local HTC agents last week & they suggested that
i bring in the device for repair. Also my device can no longer connect to my PC via the USB cable always giving me a "USB Device not Recognised" error. My other HTC devices connect via USB without a problem to the same PC. I've also found that at times while trying to re charge the battery the orange light begins to flash after a while instead of steady on, when in this condition my battery is hot enough to fry an egg on. Again I have to remove the battery to correct this situation.
I have flashed various ROMs & radios, some have given slightly better battery performance but marginal, Black Majik was the best but with my latest connectivity problem........I might as well try to send it in to the repair centre. Not sure if this is a Herm200 problem.
Alright, I re-installed the original WM5 operating system and everything seems to be working ok. I kept my old radio, ipl and spl though.
If it continues to function alright I am going to install a new WM6 OS tomorrow and upgrade the SPL and Radio.
I spoke too soon, the battery continued to die after working well for about an hour.
Now I have updated my radio and OS to Black Majik, and I seem to be able to get 4 or 5 hours out of a charge, still nothing near what I used to be able to get.
It seems unlikely that I got 2 bad batteries in a row, but maybe I should try and get another one.
do you have a MicroSD on that device? have you tried to remove it and test it without the microsd in? Do you use Data Connection ( 3G or HSPDA ) ? I´ve been having the same problem. Whem i had wm5 and SHADOW i would have 2 days battery easly... The first time i flashed MAJIK i´ve had battery for 5 or 6 hours. The problem appears from a day to the others, so it cant be a battery problem. Now i travel everywhere with a charger in my pocket
No, there is no MicroSD installed, and I do not have HSDPA or UMTS enabled, so that shouldn't be affecting my battery life.
I've come to the conclusion that it is definately some kind of internal short or something, as the battery, rom, ipl, radio and spl do not seem to affect my battery life in any way.
Looks like I just got myself another expensive paperweight.
Actually it may be simple to fix.
Has it been like this from day 1? if yes, it could be something not fitted properly or a leaking device/connection such as touching something it should not.
Or it may be a piece of mineral dirt where a circuit board cleaner would just do the job.
I just remembered that earlier models with serial lower than HT636xx had problem with screens, it may be related!.
Same issue here. Although it is a relatively recent problem in my case. I have had the device since Last Fall with various Roms....always seemed to get 12 hours of typical use. I charged the device about an hour ago, went out for a 45 min run, made a 25 min phone call and recieved the low batt warning. I am concerned about this. Switching batteries ever two hours is a pain in the a$$. FWIW, I dont use Live or any of its components. Just normal activesyn settings for Push.

Well ... FIXED MINE !!! after upgrading from wm5 to Shadow and Then Majik i was having a lot of problems. My battery would run out in 5 to 6 hours with BT:On WIFI:Off GPRS/3G/HSPDA:On. After installing WM6 ( Official ) i´ve had my tytn running in the same configuration ... and after 14hours .. my battery is at 90%
Hmm, I may have to try installing an official WM6 rom then, although I'm still almost certain its an internal issue, because it get so got sometimes.
The other thing that is concerning me, is the screen on my device seems to go out of alignment quite often (this is new, the device is 11 months old and this is the first time it has happened).
screen aligment is a very well known issue ...
@ invictive,
In this case repositioning or releasing the pressure on the screen may solve your problem.
If there is not hope of repair under warranty, Google for Hermes Screen Alignment and you will find a complete description of how to fix this problem.
Properly test for other reasons before attempting to disassemble the device.
Good luck.

Samsung omnia battery problem!!!

Yeahh, so i own a Samsung Omnia i900, and it basically doesnt update the battery life or what is left of it on the home screen (it jus shows 3 full bars).
Then it will just randomly turn off =/.
Anyway of getting passed this is greatly appreciated =]
Thanks in advance.
What have you tried so far?
Is it the original battery? I bought a couple of cheap batteries of ebay and they would drop from 90% to 0 very quickly. But my orig samsung batter still works fine.
Have you tried hard resetting? If it is really painful bug, you might try hard resetting. It should take it back to the orig setting and get rid of any software build clashes which might have caused this. It is a bit of a pain, but backing up data first makes it OK.
Have you tried updating your ROM? The newer ROMs over at Modaco are very good on battery life and don't seem to have this problem. You might want to update your ROM if you haven't already done so.
Sorry, thats all I can think of for now.
Michael
It happened to me once with my diamond, how ever i "condition" the battery dischaging it completly and charging it again completly with no intermediate charges. But its up to the battery.

AT&T HTC Titan II

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOHb5NfKAC0#t=0m09s
Well I got my Titan for a penny so I'll be selling it and buying that the moment it comes out....
*grumble grumble*
How about you guys?

Sorry a non replace able battery kills it for me, also I like the metal shell.
Titan II
I had a feeling that Titan II was going to come. But if the only difference is a 16meg cam and LTE it's not very exciting also since the battery is not replaceable. I dont know why people are so gun ho with having super internet speeds on a Phone. I'd be happy if they got 3G speeds (aka 4G on AT&T) working correctly.
I wonder when they where doing the show and tell at CES on the Titan II if the phone did a random power cycle like my Original Titan and the replacement Titan I have now. Ha!
Seeing that the titan's speeds are definitely throttled, and 4G is really just H (or might as well be), trading up seems like a good idea. I have had good luck with my HTC batteries, so I'm not too worried about that. Got my titan in the penny sale, I no reason not to sell it and trade up.
Also, non removeable back means the antenna issues will be permanently solved, and I'm sure the titan II will get a fix for the noise cancellation before the titan
Not being able to take the battery out is a deal breaker for me. I just watch all my friends with iOS devices always looking for some place to plug in when we are traveling.
I just pop my Amaze replacement battery in and I am off to the races.
I will personally wait for the multi-core and W8 kernal.
I was definitely looking at purchasing an extra battery for my Titan. I didn't have one for my Focus, and there were times I wished I did. However, I would definitely love to have an LTE phone. 5x speed for the same price I'm paying for data now sounds good to me.
As for throttled speed, I did several speed tests and got 5-6 Mbps and as high as 7 Mbps on my AT&T Titan using the Wi-Fi tethering and a laptop. I don't think they are throttled so much as the antenna on the Titan sucks and HSPA drops off quick with signal degradation. In fact, my only major complaint with the Titan is the antenna performance. I have to wonder if that's fixed in the Titan II.
Hmm, I have several phones so when one dies I used to just pop my Sim card in another one.
Recently, I bought a portable battery pack so I just charge my batteries from that. It's 12AH or so. Never again gonna waste money on spare batteries for each and every phone I get...
I was debating on getting a portable battery pack, but wasn't sure how well/fast they worked. Which one did you get?

I got the Newtrent IMP1000
There are some up to 20AH or so, but after looking through many reviews I settled for 11.1AH, because a lot of the reviews were saying the bigger ones were melting or otherwise breaking down in some fashion. Mine is only 2-3 months old, and I've only charged it 3 times, so the capacity is just fine for me, and it doesn't look like it's going to die any time soon.
Charges your device as fast as a USB charger. Mine is 5V 1A output, but there are models that support up to 2A output (for iPad and other). Since I only have one device that uses 2A I didn't think it was worth getting. The battery itself charges at 2A 5V input, and takes about 8 hours to charge (I remember when AAs took 8 hours to charge...)
It comes with a USB plug that has several interchangeable heads (microUSB, miniUSB) but I never really use them. I bought a nice backpack, packed up the battery, all necessary cables and my old phones, my laptop and laptop gaming accessories and I keep it in my car (it doesn't charge the laptop, to be clear. USB out only). I could go for weeks without an outlet , just hope my car never gets stolen.
Here are the ones I compared

I think HTC shouldn't have named this device as the "Titan 2".
Because it only has a better camera/battery and of course 4G LET;on the other hand,it's thicker and the backside has less aluminum and more plastic(Compared to Titan 1)
True. XDA thinks it should've been called the Titan LTE and I agree. It would better clarify the 4G product choice and also show it's an incremental upgrade.
Sent from my HTC Titan PI39100 using Board Express
I expected better from HTC
I figured that HTC would have done a lot better, after reading though the thread here, I'm not very impressed and now even HTC is going with the un-removable battery!
I guess it's a good money maker for the providers and manufactures, if anything goes wrong with it, just get a new err well with ATT it's a used replacement phone. Regardless of owning it for 90 days or 1 yr, their policy is after 30 days and the Phone wiggs out on ya, you get a used replacement.
Well you do have the option to send it in to ATT to get it repaired, but then you have no phone unless you have a backup phone. I when through this issue several years back with Razer Flip phone came out, I ran in to problems with key pad separating in certain places and not others on the phone, I had no choice but take a used replacement.
And when that one also had the same issues, I just gave up and got my HTC HD2 T9193 and just upgraded the rom, I think I will just stick with what I have and fall for all the glitzy hype.

Just go this phone today! Any recommendations you want to share?

Hi!
Well, first the phone is not for myself but I will send it to my mom as her nokia died and I wanted a better phone with a bigger screen.
I almost went with a LG L9 4.5" but the bigger internal memory, faster CPU and better camera features on the Amaze made me change my mind.
So, I was thinking maybe I need to root it to remove anything that slows it down but in reality, mom is not a power user. I will just have her do MMS now so maybe is not worth spending time figuring out a new system (I come from Samsung, Asus Prime, Xperia) for a user that really is not going to notice any lag etc.
I got it with a 5 pin cable which seems NOT to be the right one and charges slow so one thing I am getting is an OEM 12 pin for it unless I am not right about this.
So anything you like to share, I am happy to read about.
Thanks!

Yes the 12 pin is better, but unless you've got the factory charger, go for a quality higher amperage one like the generic dual purpose type that can be used with a tablet. These beasts draw a lot of current, so much so that when plugged-in and used with a lesser charger, it will still be draining its battery.
Even though it's for your mom I'd still root it and install Titanium Backup. Then I'd remove the T-Mobile and HTC bloat, some of which never worked, or no longer works. Then after removing the cruft, I'd install every available update then integrate them into '/system/app' with TiBu. Finally, I'd unroot and relock it, to avoid the late night service calls she'd give you if she accidentally messed with something she shouldn't have. Then you'll be good to go.
I did this very same procedure when I hooked my mom and stepdad up with smartphones last year. They both were new to these devices. They previously owned moto RAZRs. They live outside of Memphis and I live in Miami. The one thing I feared in getting them Androids vs iPhones were the possible late night tech calls from them. So I did for them exactly what I told you and they've been happy owners ever since.
I hope this helps.
Ciao
That sounds like a good plan.
Any specific charger you recommend or anything listed for HTC tablets etc should do the trick from ebay?
Looks like THIS should work.

It should work. I bought my amaze off Craig's list after I broke my HD2. I got it relatively cheap ($100), but it had no charger or data cable. I thought no big deal, I'll just use the HD2's. Thats when I discovered how much this juice uses. The HD2 charger just wasn't up to the task. I kept getting warnings about the current draw being too much and the device was unable to charge.
I wanted to resolve that right away. So I went to Best Buy and overpaid for a generic one with the highest amperage output they had. It's rated at 2.4 amps, I think my old one was rated at 0.8. You don't have to worry about too much amperage because of the regulator in the phone. Plus by getting the one I did, I figured I'd be equipped for any type of device I might throw at it in the future. That in combination with the 12 pin cable has worked for me. Now I can do even the most intensive task while plugged in and it never gives me a warning anymore about my device being unable to charge. I hope this helps, good luck!
The charger I got is rated like the original 5v 1Amp but the cable is surely not doing the job. Still I will just get that charger and call it a day.
Thanks amigo!
