It seams it is ok but friend of mine probably tried to flash custom rom without hard sspl optrion and now I can not put any rom up.
Eny other solution...
if you're not sure if it is unlocked unlock first then install hard spl... you can do it through usb or sd card. check wiki for details... check if its hard spl already. go into bootloader and see if the spl is 2.10, 2.30 or 2.60.. if it is then its hard spl.
also check if ipl is 1.04 and not 1.01. if not then re install hard spl version 7. THEN flash os, would try stock rom first as it MAY fix the radio(no promises) . if that doesnt work try flashing a radio only rom and if that doesnt work I'm all out of ideas except to flash an os only rom(no radio) so you can use as a PDA..
personal preference is sd card method for ALL flashing. less chance of unfortunate computer related incident resulting in homicide and bricked hermes...
cheers..
SPL is 2.60 oli
IPL is 1.04
but even on card upgrade it stops on radio rom on 11% and that is it
I have read wiki all over 6 times and tried more or les everithing
any new ideas...
thanks
from what you descibe it sounds like your radio ha been corrupted. once that happens you May(very slim chance) fix it BUT 9 times out of 10 its a permanent brick. You should still be able to flash an os only rom onto it but it is now only a PDA. Keep reading though, you might find something.... chances are though that is not a phone anymore...
thanksfully it is not mine I feel sorry for friend but every school is expensive...
Thanks

Full Metal Jacket reference?
Yep. One of my favorite Kubrick movies. strazicic's remark just reminded me of that scene where they're saying their farewell's to their fallen platoon leader.
just Solved same problem
Hi
i have been dealing with the same problem for 4.5 hours finally with the help of wiki and pof 's posts i managed to unbrick radio.
first of all i tried almost evceryting. i finally succeed by reseting radio sector. i used mtty to gel into hermes and used commands of one of pof's posts for erasing radio sector.
i dont remember the link but google xda for it. then i flashed tweaked version wich is inclueded in unlocker by pof i aborted the operation in unlocking phase then installed hardspl7
i can use my phone now radio version is 1.10 sth but i didnt tried to install newer radio ( too tired :=) )
i hope it is usefull if anything not clear PM me or write here....
PS:Many many thanx to pof...

Hi everybody,
A friend of mine (who claims his English is not good enough to write here in forum) crashed his Hermes (T-Mobile Vario II, preproduction version). He tried to upgrade its ROM (from T-Mobile 1.4.110.1 to HERMIMG_Dopod_1.23.707.1_SHIP.nbh ) with a help of the following link: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Hermes/CHT9000_ENG.exe
He followed the instructions:
Please note the existing ROM is English ROM from Dopod for the SE Asia market. I tried this ROM with my Chinese version of Dopod CHT9000 (Traditional Chinese version from Taiwan). If you try to flash it directly you will get a vendor error. Try the following steps:
1. Extract CHT9000_ENG.exe by right click (I use Winrar)
2. Make sure you are connected through ActiveSync.
3. Open ROMUpgradeUT.exe
4. Go through all steps. Eventually you will see your device reset and go into a ROM Flash screen at 0%. You should get an error from the Flash software stating wrong Vendor ID code.
5. Don’t disconnect the device or reset it. Close the Flash software.
6. Click on ROMUpgradeUT.exe again and go through all steps. This time it should start flashing the ROM.
7. That’s it.
Till the step 6 was everything OK. However after re-starting of ROMUpgradeUT.exe everything started again from the beginning. He got the error 262 saying:
ERROR [262"> : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode.
After trying hard reset he lands in so called tri-color mode, he can see “herm100 IPL-0.16 a herm100 mfg spl-0.95”. That’s it. No hard reset possible. No other upgade (downgrade) possible.
My guess is he has to do something like here: http://www.spv-developers.com/forum/archive/index.php?t-455.html
Am I right?
We thought about upgrading to ftp://xda:[email protected]/Up...d_ROMs/HTC_TyTN_1.18.255.3_WWE_Dumped_ROM.zip
I found the instructions how to create these raw files, http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoDumpRom but I have no idea, how to use the created ones!!!
Could you explain it to me shortly???
Thanks a lot!
Hans Jansen
Hard reset will not help.
Go into Bootloader:
Bootloader mode: Hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus.(from Wiki!)
Click to collapse
If the Tytn is in bootloader mode, you can retry the flashing with the same or another update.
Good luck!
Bernhard
is there any difference?
Hi Bernhard,
Thanks a lot for your reply! However I am not sure if it helps. My friend says that "tri-color" and "bootloader" modes are one and the same mode.
He actually is able to start the flashing process again but is stops working by 0%... If he tries to repeat it - it is the same.
How is the situation with the raw files which I described in my first message?
Cheers
Hans

I am investigating on this, but havent found a reliable method to restore "raw" rom images into Hermes yet. I'll put it in the wiki if I find something, any help is appreciated too
@Hans Jansen:
Are you able to find anohter HERM100 preproduction version (300Mhz) where you can extract the rom using the method descibed on the wiki?
When you are in the bootloader, you should be able to run RUU and flash the rom, but I guess the preproduction version has something different that is incompatible with the shipped or extracted roms from production versions, so the way to revive your firend's hermes should be by flashing another preproduction rom on it.
Follow this thread if you are interested in the process of making a valid .nbh file, but we don't know how to do it yet, you'll have to wait until we find the right way for hermes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58656
are you sayin that the only reason for this happening is because his unit is a preproduction unit?

I don't know it for sure, but I've heared of two people who are stuck in bootloader after upgrade and both have preproduction models, so I guess it's a common problem on these units.
Hans Jansen:
Have u tried to connect through USB in bootloader mode using mtty?
1) Disable ActiveSync: connections -- settings -- uncheck "Allow USB Connections"
2) Open mtty.exe and select "USB" from the dialog box, then hit OK.
3) On the white screen hit enter and you should see a prompt like this:
USB>
Let me know if that works, probably we can do a full rom backup to microSD and you can load the rom from it.
I just got pre-production Hermes back to a OS using SET 14 0
So far many of you have been right on with suggestions regarding the pre-production units stuck in the boot loader are just that--- the 300mhz cpu, pre=prod Hermes 100 units. I was FINALLY able to use MTTY 1.42 I got from the buzzdev.net/downloads site. I used it by removing my battery, putting it back in, and powering on the unit which allowed the USB port to be opened again. I had to wait a minute or two for activesync to try to connect and say it couldn't recognize the device, then cancelled out of that and MTTY was able to see the USB port as an option. I connected, hit ENTER to get USB> prompt. Then typed SET 14 0 and then soft-reset the PPC and WALA!!! Original OS ROM 1.5 and radio version 0.92 back and OS functional. Not fully functional as it errors trying to load some MSN .cpl files, but I say no to opening them and I have a functioning phone! I've tried to reflash the device NUMEROUS times with the CHT9000 and other ROMs posted here, but they still return me to the stuck at boot loader and won't flash. Each time, I removed the battery, waited, used MTTY to set 14 0, and soft reset and back to a functioning OS. I guess I may have to wait for other roms to try. But at least the unit isn't a BRICK anymore! Even if the ROM sucks, just gotta be patient. I even tried using NoID RUU's and MA ruu. Neither worked.

F..k, xxjohn told me he speaks no English! I believe he had to be sooo happy that he has forced himself to write his contribution here ;-)
Hans Jensen's friend, let me know if you ever find ROM upg!!
You're very welcome as for the set command restoring your OS. Mine still has some glitches but runs until I can find a flashable ROM for the 300mhz version.
If you ever find a ROM that will flash to it, can you post to this thread?
Thanks!
And not sure I'll ever make my way to Prague or not, but would love to! I could if you sent me pre-paid flight vouchers for two adults and a child though! *smiling*
Hello,
Can you enter into the bootloader of the preproduction version of the Hermes, issue these commands and post the output here?
Code:
info 2
info ?
checkimage
info 3
Hopefully this will give us a clue on how to modify the Hermes roms to make them possible to flash into preproduction versions.
Also check if your bootloader has any of these commands, not present in the production versions: d2s, s2d, help
And tell me the IPL / SPL versions you see when your device boots.
If you want more info check this page, you can compare with the production Hermes bootloader:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_BootLoader
Note: "info 3" could hang the mtty console sometimes, do it the latest.
cheers!
Hi Guys,
I'm in the same boat as I've just been given a pre-production model of the Dopod 838 Pro but my main problem is that the ROM language is in Chinese! No problem if I could understand it but I'm trying to install a WWE ROM but have been put off by holywood63a experiences. Has anybody found a solution to this or is there another way I can change the language?

omaqsood, thanks for the info, but to see exactly WHY and WHERE it fails, we need a full USB capture of the ROM Upgrade process, to do it download HHD USB Monitor, install it and start a new capture, click on the second tab where it says "full decode" and then upgrade the rom until it fails, then stop the capture and export it as TEXT (no unicode), zip it and post the results here.
After that, connect using mtty and type "set 14 0" and "task 8" to return to your previous rom.
Hopefully this will show where the problem is and would give us a clue on how to "adapt" a rom or modify the RomUpgradeUt for flashing preproduction units.
I followed your instructions as well as I could but couldn't find the "full decode" option. I've attached the output as you asked.
I hope it helps.
oops, i'm sorry but the log only contains activesync info, GetDeviceData.exe and EnterBL.exe, and when device enters into BootLoader USB is disconnected and LOG stopped, so it's unuseful
Instructions again, I hope this time will be more useful:
1) Disable activesync on your computer by right click on activesync icon -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections".
2) Put your device in BootLoader mode
3) Connect device to computer using USB cable.
4) Start USBMonitor.
5) File -> New session -> USB Monitor -> Select USB device where your phone is connected -> Check "request view" -> Finish
6) In the upper part there are two tabs: basic and complete. Click on "Complete".
7) click on RomUpgradeUt.exe and start the Rom Update Process, if everything went fine you should see all the USB traffic output on USB monitor window.
8 ) when rom upgrade fails, click on Edit -> Export and Save as type "ANSI Text files".
9) Save the file and zip it.
10) Go to mtty and issue the bootloader commands "set 14 0" and "task 8".
11) Upload the zipped file here again or put it on xda-dev FTP if it is too big.
Just unlocked my Orange SPV M3100 using imei check. I remember that there was a warning that the unlocker would not work if the radio version was later than 1.06
Anyway now that I've unlocked it I want to try out some of the other roms out there which I have later radio version 1.07.
Need to know if the newer roms would work with my phone before going ahead. Thanks

Yes they do - my Orange M3100 (unlocked by imeicheck) is running the i-mate JasJam ROM, with a T-Mobile SIM.
EDIT: I forgot to add - the unlock seems also to have removed the CID check, so that upgrading the ROM was really simple (didn't have to run the upgrade twice as others have reported).

Thanks for the reply. How do you find the JasJam rom by the way? I'm looking at that one or maybe the Dopod rom.
It does seem quicker. More importantly, I find that it's holding onto UMTS signals much longer, and almost never reverting down to GPRS. I'm sure the Dopod ROM with the same radio version would be the same in this regard.

mmm... doesn't seem to be SuperCID, probably is just CID Unlocked ¿?
btw, the imei check people packed their unlocker with Themida, and protected it from debuggers:
"Running debugger in system. In order to execute this program you have to quit the debugger first."

And it gives a communication error if you try to monitor the USB port when running it.
So, still don't know what the unlocker really does :?

HTCSF kEØ(HTCE means corrupted CID, and since you have no KITL, and NO GSM, and are stuck in Windows Mobile screen, unless you can flash the original rom (and I don't think you can...), you have three choices:
1. Send it to www.imei-check.com and they can do a JTAG reflash.
2. Have a repair center replace the motherboard
3. Buy another unit, and keep your for spare parts

What about a "task 28" in mtty?
first mistake was not reading directions lol.. you should of had SPLv7 flashed to your phone before you started. there is a whole section in the wiki on bricks you might want to read as well as a whole 60 something page thread on bricks which might help you out. my best guess is send it in for repair or buy another and save the brick for parts. before SPLv1 there where lots of bricks. you also might consider sending your phone to Oli or pof so they can use it for tests if there still doing hermes work
Sorry if i hijack this thread.
but i have the same problem.
corrupted cid, No KITL, stuck @ windows screen.

I was in the repaircenter and they will change the complete device. in a few day i will get a new hermes and if i have a little bit luck i have to pay nothing.
if i will have more luck, i will have a mda touch.
when i will have the mda touch, what do i have to look for ???
what can i do with it and what not ?
what "mußt" i do ???
thank you for the help ...
I am sorry for your problems but it still amazes me that people are still flashing there phones without flashing HardSPL first.
I am interested as to why you did not flash HardSPL first, is the information too deeply buried or not easily found?
I didn´t found the information.
i have flashed my hermes about 10 - 15 times with different roms and operationsystems (wm 5, wm 6, radiopatch 1.xx, splash screen, own cooked roms, ..., up and down) and had no problems.
i think the last rom was not for the hermes device.
now i flash first hard spl and then i will try again all the roms ...
without the bricked device i have never heard about mtty, hard-spl, flash by sd card, ... and so on. so i think it was good for me, that i have bricked the device ;-)
learning by doing ...
without a little bit luck i will have in a few weeks two devices, one hermes (mda vario II) and one mda touch ... then i will use the hermes for test and the touch for work ...
thankxxx
i already read those wiki.
the only solution there is
Flash any shipped ROM matching your CID, if such rom is not available wait until your carrier releases it or send it to repair or warranty...
The problem was the device was corrupted cid so i cannot upgrade using the shipped rom (always country id error)
i try to bring to service center.its say it need to be replaced motherboard. and sadly its not cover the guarantee cos not official rom.

Go to MrVanx guides and read up on upgrading and stuff. The guides will let you know what must be done.
I'm sure everyone is getting sick of these posts. This is the reason I have spent about 2 days reading post after post, along with every how-to ever.
I have tried a couple different versions of Hard-SPL.
Olipro 2.10
SPL-2.03
I have problems when trying to run the radio only updates as well as the updates from the Hermes website for ATT. It either gives me error 262 at 0% or 12%.
Here is the printout from mtty

If I try to run task 2a it doesn't tell me anything, just goes back to CMD>
For one, mtty always says CMD> instead of USB>. Is that a problem and how would I fix it. I was assuming it didnt matter.
Can someone tell me exactly what radio I should flash? or the most successful radio that I can flash? I don't care if it is old, I just want to make phone calls. I have even tried to flash the nbh from ubuntu with no success.
Also, is hard-spl V9 any better? I haven't tried it yet. i am going to be doing that right after I post this. I am kind of lost in all of this and have no idea where to go from here. I wish I knew a way to figure out if it is a bad physical radio.
Thanks,
Ray
Sorry to hear it. My Hermes if in the "no GSM" mode to.
My solution, I ended up being getting a Kaiser.
Hope you can find a way to revive yours.
Hi,
It seems that you are not the only one to have a problem with your radio rom. There is a thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349461
Could you give a bit more details about what happens before your problem?
- Which radio rom was on your htc before
- Did it stop to work suddenly? or did the problem happen when flashing a new rom?
- Which method did you use for flashing (pc connection or sdcard?)
- Which release of hermes did you have (herm100,200,300?)
- etc...
Thanks
1. My radio was 1.34
2. It just stopped working. Had never been upgraded
3. I tried flashing via pc and I transferred a file to the phone and tried it that way. I may not be doing it correctly though, so maybe I need a point in the right direction for which files to download and flash. Does it have to be from the sd card or can I transfer it to the phone memory.
4. It is a Cingular 8525 HERM100 it says.
Before I put Hard-SPL on it said SPL 1.11 IPL 1.01
Then I started trying to flash several thousand different types of upgrades. Radio rom only, custom RUU, Official HERMES upgrade, etc.
The only progress I made was one time it started flashing and after it failed, the phone restarted and said ATT instead of Cingular.
I have followed steps 4 and 5 on the bricked heremes thread.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
This is what Im talking about:
USB> password 0000000000000000
USB> set 1e 1
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 0
After that, I still cant flash anything.
I think it is out of warranty. I dont care to open it up if I have to. Is the radio (that might be corrupted) on a removable board or chip?
I can boot into windows and use it as a PDA, it just has no gsm and no imei
did you solve the problem.the same thing hapeened to me.helpppp
SOLUTION!!!
I had a bricked hermes like everyone else. It had the no GSM message and could not flash anything couldn't even get MTTY to recognize it. I finally got it!!!! I flashed the Hard SPL using the SD Card Method. After I flashed the Official Stock Rom my radio is back. (It did take 2 tries to get the Rom to flash and again I used the SD Card method) I hope you can use this. Just incase you don't know use a 2 GB SD CARD and it MUST BE 2 GB or smaller. put the attached exe file and the .nbh file. Rename the .nbh file to HERMIMG.nbh. Open bootloader and it will start the update after you press start button when prompted. It worked for me and hope it will work for you!!!
Dear all,
I am having big trouble with my dopod 838 pro, issues is:-
- I can flash a after market ROM - wm6.1 from PDAVIET
- The unit has no GSM when turn on
- the unit has "IPL-1.01, SPL - 1.40.olipro"
- I can't upgrade to Hard-SPL v7.0 nor Hard-SPL v9.0 now, but it can be before.
- can't flash the radio via SD card, it keep stuck at about 10% stage.
can anyone help to solve this problem and make my unit working properly again?
many thanks.
Winston
P.S.
It can't run "Free HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker *New* version v3a" fully, always has connection error at the last flashing stage.

If you didn't have HARDSPL on the phone prior to the flash there is a WIKI about how to recover from a bricked phone. If you didn't have NO GSM errors before - EVER you can still get it back. Go to the WIKI section for the HERMES and try the steps there. Your radio is probably just corrupted not damaged but it might be.
Try the steps (ALL in the WIKI) then post back.
I had the same problem but my GSM radio is dying. Was able to get it back partially but it dies again so I'm assuming a hardware problem with my phone. If yours worked before the flash WITHOUT any GSM errors before you should be ok.
hi stim141,
thanks very much for your quick reply.
refer to the wiki page -
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
i am confusing what's my SPL version and bootloader (HTC_BOOT) version ?
- my unit shows "IPL-1.01, SPL - 1.40.olipro"
- there's no radio version i can find in my unit
so what's my SPL version and bootloader (HTC_BOOT) version ?
thanks.
Your spl is the 1.4 and the bootloader is the first number. The chart in the WIKI can be confusing. It looks as though you should be able to flash just a radio rom. First suggest you try to flash HardSPL. REALLY recommend you flash using the SD card (there is instructions on the Wiki page) because you can have problems with Activesync. Try reflashing just a radio ROM first using the SD card it may come back.

Hi Again,
My SPL is 1.40.olipro, doesn't mean it is HardSPL already?
The second picture has already shown that the unit can't flash the radio via SD card, it keep stuck at about 10% stage.
any solution?
many thanks.
1.40 is an older unsafe version of Hard SPL. V7 (SPL : 2.10 oli) is considered the best for the layperson.
See if you can find what your radio rom was before you tried to unlock it as it will now be 1.16. Its best to re-install the stock radio rom or it may brick permanently. Always go back to stock....
Cheers...
sorry i have no idea what radio version is my original radio version.
can i just try to flash all version RADIOs one by one to figure it out?

As I said before.....
my unit is still dead.
I've got a Hermes with the same issue. If the MYYT commands don't work, it's a hardware thing. I replaced the motherboard on my Hermes and it works great now (was curious if it would work and how successful i'd be so i just did it today and it's looking great).
As kareem9nba said, if the fixes given DON'T work its hardware and has to be replaced. Look on ebay, you might be REALLY lucky and get a fully functional Hermes for cheap, as it may have a problem that yours doesn't and can be used for parts, I know mines made up of 2 different units....
Had a Hermes where the screen went bung, found another on ebay that apparently had same problem as yours... Now I have 1 working Hermes and a few extra spare parts...
Cheers...
