Why Cant I Update Roms - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

Hi guys, just like to say great job and thanks for the great roms.
I have both a Prophet M600 and a Kasier, i have both upgraded them with roms made from guys on this site.
The question i wanting to ask is with the prophet i can sometime upgrade the rom with ones using the dos method, this seems more reliable, for me.
But i cant update with the roms using the rom utility upgrade, any ideas, after doing 100% it returns to the boot loader.
Is there a way i could convert the .nbf file to a nb file, so i can use the dos method.

You haven't hard SPLed your device.
To convert a *.nbf to *.nb you will need to use a kitchen such as Neokits to dump the ROM and split it into the extended ROM and the OS.

Official i-mate rom won't install after installing t-mobile

Earlier, I installed unofficial T-Mobile 1.6 rom on my i-mate. I just recenlty tried installing the official i-mate update and there is a country code. I don't have the old rom to revert to. Can anyone help. I know I would have to at the least get a copy of the old rom and then install it into the i-mate. Again, since I don't have a backup of the old one, I would need info on how to get one first.
The T-Mobile unofficial one works fine. I just wanted to go back to always on gprs etc. that the i-mate update has. If not, I guess I will have to wait until the rom kitchen is up and running for this unit.

I think you better try it using bootloader way, because t-mobile protect it's update, it happen in XDAI if you update your XDA to 4.16 and you want to go back to 4.11 then you have to update it using bootloader to be able to go back from the previous one 4.11 8) hope this help you...opps correction please there is no bootloader on XDA II, there is bootloader but in different way, I think if you copy your old nbf to sd using xdatools and go to bootloader by using power+anydirection+ reset it will ask to download the nbf to you device... hmmm if this doesn't work you have to look for another way.
T-Mobile 1.60 BUGGY Rom - Want to go back to iMate ROM
Folks,
I'm in the same position - Can someone please outline the success they've had going back from the T-Mobile 1.60 ROM to Imate ROM 1.5283??
Any thoughts would be great... (I'm guessing the boot loader using an SD card may work but would love to hear of any new tricks that people have learned on this
Cheers
Andy
I'll try to help.
Where can the ROM be downloaded, so I can have a look at it.

T-Mobile Back to iMate ROM
Thanks
I've uploaded the new iMate ROM image to:
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/ruu15283.zip
The somewhat flakey T-Mobile 1.6.006 ROM (which I'm trying to get away from is at
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/TMobile160.zip
Of course, with the different operator / country codes, it's not just a matter of running the .EXE - It'll need to involve the boot loader of a little hex editing of the header, I'm guessing (just guessing?!)
The new iMate ROM is meant to be the best bet around at the moment and my device is an iMate in the first place. The only reason why I installed the T-Mobile one was to get the Bluetooth GPS fix (which works well) - BUT so many other things aren't as stable!!
The new iMate ROM is meant to have the BT GPS fix as well.
Any help, much appreciated!
Cheers

That's correct, you need to mod it.
I'll make a procedure for it.

THANKS!
You're a champion!
Thanks very much..
It sounds like there's a few people that'll thank you!
The other posts on the subject aren't too clear at this point - So it'll be great to clear up the issue for the iMate / XDA II.
All the best - Have a great weekend.

OK, made some time to create a batch file to upgrade.
Works only for upgrade from T-Mobile 1.60.06 NL to I-mate 1.53.82.
1. Download the ROM image ruu15283.zip from the site in this posting
2. Unzip the file with Winzip
3. You now get a file called ruu15283wwwe_cdl.exe
3. Extract this file with Winzip to a new folder
4. Extract the attached file to the same folder
5. Start the conversion and upgrade by double-clicking convert.bat
Since I'm out till Sunday, I can't check my mail to respond to problems.
Enjoy!
Can the first person brave enough to try this please confirm success.
IT WORKS!!
Jes - You're a scholar and a gentleman!!

IT WORKED!
Thanks a million!
Let me know how to send you virtual beers or whatever

Nah, I'm not a good programmer, I just know how to write bachfiles and how to combine things to get the disered result.
Thanks has to go to Isme. He knows a lot about the internal working of the XDA II, the ROMS and the bootloader process.
He wrote the great tool used to change the file headers, so you can update your machine with a ROM of a different brand.
He's a good programmer!
If somebody needs a mod to upgrade from another ROM version, please let me know.
And if you want to do something back, please donate to the people who keep this nice forum up and running.
It worked. For those who want to get back onto the official path from unofficial t-mobile this is an automated way to do it. Thanks...Jon
Backing Up XDA2 ROM+CE
I'm a new XDA2 iMate user, want to back up my ROM+CE before I screw things up. I did this on my XDA1 (power + software reset, then press contact button I think). Anyway, I always had my ROM+CE backed up to a 64M SD card ... just in case.
I've searched these forums for such a procedure for XDA2 ... no luck.
What is the process, if any, to backup the XDA2's ROM+CE image to SD card?
Appreciate any help,
Craig
I think it's possible with the xda2dmp tool, but you better ask Itsme, he wrote it.
You can find it on this site: http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/xda-ii.html
PHoto contacts wont work

I owe you one!!
My friend wants to install the T-Mobile Update because the windows CE version on the T-mobile ROM is newer than that of the imate. Any magic patches that can be done.

Difference between i-mate 1.52.00WWE ROM and i-mate 1.53.82
Can anybody outline the differences between the 1.52.00 and the 1.53.82 official i-mate ROMs?
I'm trying to ascertain whether I have sufficient incentive to upgrade (given the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality I subscribe to in my old age!).
Sufficient incentive might be;
 Faster GPRS
 Improved battery life
 Improved all-round performance.
Thanks guys.

Just upgraded to i-mate from much-loved XDA!

ROM Reconstruction possible!

ok, Mousey here on the forums had dumped the Orange UK ROM from his Hermes; he then used buildimgfs to create a proper imgfs image; after this, we then wrote this imgfs to the AKU3.3 ROM (using it as a shell essentially) and the result was a successful flash and his PDA was running Orange UK OS ROM, so it would seem that it IS possible to create images of dumped ROMs, but I would advise that you make sure the NB you create is bigger than needed so as not to fill it completely.
All Working Beautifully.
1. I Took The Part02.raw Of A Dumped ROM And Dumped All The Files Using "viewimgfs" from the imgfsTools
2. I Created imgfs_raw_data.bin File From A Random AKU 3.3 OS.nb File Using "aWaiter".
3. Then I Created imgfs_raw_data.bin From The Dumped Files Using "buildimgfs" from the imgfsTools, This Overwrites The imgfs_raw_data.bin File Created In The Previous Step.
4. I Then Merged My imgfs_raw_data.bin With The OS.nb From Step 2 File Using "aWaiter".
5. Then I Created The nbh File Using The Orange Splash Screens And The Romanian EXTROM Using dutty's Rom Koch
6. Finally I Added It To The CustomRUUUpdater Created By Olipro.
And Then Flashed It. Now I've Unlocked The ExtRom Im Going To Add In The UK Files And HardReset.

currently a shipped Orange UK ROM doesn't exist, and we don't have the capabilities to produce signed files... but since it seems your bootloader is intact, I would suggest you try the KITL trick described on the wiki

So you dumped a ROM from a phone and merged it with a shipped ROM that was AKU 3.3? Was the "phone ROM" AKU 3.3 also, and, did your default internet connections remain after flashing?
great stuff guys, you rock!
@jokinawa
When I Say Merged What I Mean Is I Use The Shell Of An AKU 3.3 OS.nb File. None Of The AKU3.3 Code Remains Its Just A Container For The Orange Rom To Live In. When You Flash It You Only Flash The Orange Part, Yes All My Settings Are Now The Original Orange Settings Whithout Having To Add Anything.
I Hope That Explains Things Better. I Added This Info To The Wiki.
Are There Any Other Providers Who Haven't Released An Original ROM? I May Create Installers If You Need Them.

If I understand it correct... then this is great...
Does this solution mean that if I upgrade to xda live, i can get back to the original rom??
Does it mean that i can claim my waranty if the phone is broken (not software only hardware?)
T-mobile Netherlands did not bring out any ROM for the Tytn (VarioII)
What can I do to bring the ROM files to you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the very very bad english... I speak Dutch!
I've Backed Up All The Hermes FTP Folder, But Sadly I Don't See A T-Mobile Netherland Dump, Theres 2 WWE Ones In There If You Want I'll Create An Installer Out Of That For You.

if you dumped the OS from your Hermes onto your hard-drive, then yes.
also, as I said before... remember to use as large an OS.nb as possible.
Currently I'm looking into modifying the size of the OS.nb itself; hopefully this can be done without generating any bad blocks (even if the attempt fails), but I'll get back to you on that.

rom dump..
Ok I'm going to dump my rom... can someone tell me, when I dump my ROM is it important to empty my device (hard reset??)... I dont wanna throw my private data on the streets
Or does the rom dumper only dump the rom and dont touch the active part of the device?
I have dumped my ROM and now??
I did the rom dump before i did the upgrade to xda live 2
Olipro can you help me to create a dutch T-mobile recover ROM?
I do not really know how that works (Instructions would be nice!), but as far as i understand that, you can read out the rom from the Hermes to do a backup eg. for XDALive?
T-Mobile Germany even has no shipped rom! Would be nice to construct it!

Dumping ROM questions

Hi all,
This is my first post here, so please be patient with me
I have a Vario 2 (T-mobile Croatia) and decided to dump my ROM before experimenting with other ROMs (warranty issue).
I have successfully dumped my ROM following this guide http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoDumpRom
Currently am in the process of uploading it to the xda ftp (under filename "dumped_Vario_2_T-mobile_CRO_1.21.119.2.zip")
However, I do not understand why Part03 is not extracted in the guide, although it was available on the given device. I did not extract it either because I was unsure what was it.
On my device there was also ext_fla which i dumped. I believe this is extended_ROM where the T-mobile stuff actually is.
So my questions are:
1. Is it possible to extract radio as well?
2. How to dump EVERYTHING on my Vario 2 so i can restore it if i have to return it to T-mobile due some hardware issues?
3. How to reconstruct dumped ROM to a flashable one? In the guide, they were reconstructing only Part02....
4. Where do i get .nb file?
Thanks mates...
flash oli HARDSPL V7 on your phone then you can flash any rom and not fear. if you have an issue you can always flash the t-mobile rom back to your phone since its on the Xda ftp so i wouldnt even bother dumping that rom. kind of a waste of time unless your trying to learn if thats the case there are better tools like Bepe's rom kitchen or oli's ROM baker to use...
Thanks for your response.
I managed to copy extended rom.
Lost the temper with reconstructing and decided to flash WM6 (Dutty). Will fool around with T-mobile thing if needed
BTW, Dutty's WM6 is working flawlessly (except that Missing Sync on a Mac does not support WM6 yet...)

Thanks.
What is the best tool to cook?
I tried Hypercore v1.01. Can't pass the first step. It always complain os.nb not found no matter where I put it.
Rom kitchen
I think with hypercore first you have to set the device name further instuction is available in readme document.
Secondly hypercore creates .nbf not .nbh so for final stage u have to use htc rom maker available in gene forum as well.

Sedna Kitchen...

im trying to cook a rom for this device and have only worked with a hermes before..and those tools i was using...ROMcDonalds .. are not dumping the OS.nb
anyone know how to dump the OS.nb of this .nbh?
anyone ever cooked a ROM for this Phone?
let me know...
edit... i have cooked my rom on a sedna...
it is possible !!!
Making massive headway into customizing my own ROM on the SENDA...!!!
but sure noone wants to know... phone must be unpopular...but i love the large screen
have already flashed several test roms..some worked others not...now got it more or less figured
rom available ?
Hi,
how did you managed to make a new ROM for your Sedna ?
I'd like to make one special for my own sedna, including SPB mobile shell 3 or with Windows Mobile 6.5 (not sure about WM6.5 ).
For sure, sedna is not very popular but i think it is a very good phone.
regards.
i used kaiser kitchen to build my rom... and used qmat to split and recompile my .nbh
qmat.. http://revskills.de/pages/download.html
of course i need to have hard spl 'ed my SEDNA before i did any thing...
so thats first .. hard spl ...
then use qmat to Dump your .nbh up and get os.nb...
then with that os.nb follow the kaiser directions for cooking and use a kitchen there... i think there are a few but any thing that will work for kaiser will now work for sedna..
cook you rom and recompile till its os.nb again...
then use qmat to generate os.nb back to a .nbh and use an original flasher.. just replace the .nbh with your cooked one... and thats it
of course not everything that applies to kaiser works here but enough does and once you have a hard spl you should not brick you phone and you can flash any rom you cook.
i take it you have some idea how to cook ...if not well read the kaiser directions and figure it out...
