Performance Question - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

is there any easy way to increase the graphics performance of this phone?
for example with i slide the slider on s2u2 its not a smooth movement, can i fix this?
thank you

easy ? in a word -> no
but i know that some brave guys are working on a graphic driver which should improve niki's performance...
still some patience needed...

oh ok....i did not think so.
its just annoying that my touch series 2 has better graphics performance that its much higher spec'd cousin.
patience is my virtue.

Maybe some of the performance tweaks you can find in the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Niki) will help some. But I don't know if that will increase the graphics performance, they sure did improve the performance on my Dual

thank you. i will try them out and let you know.
if not my dual is calling me

[Q] CM7 Performance settings. What has worked for you?

I've played around with the performance settings a little bit but haven't really found much improvement in gaming.
Anyone found a good combination that maximizes the performance of our NT?
I guess I'm the only one who tinker's with settings!
What ones are working for you?

in your opinion what is the best benchmark app

so maybe this is a newbie question but I was wondering what everyone uses as a benchmark or if the modding community as a whole finds benchmarking archaic or silly. I downloaded cf-bench and passmark performance last night, any feedback on these two benchmarks, or recommendations on new ones, or even reasonable condemnation of benchmarking in general is welcome.

Benchmarks take the human factor out of the equation, and what we really want is a snappy response and smooth transitions (the human experience)... neither of which can be benchmarked.
I'm partial to Quadrant Standard myself.
I love the aesthetics of Quadrant more than most others but like the functionality of AnTuTu. I know the results really don't translate to everyday performance all the time with these apps but find myself using them nonetheless. Again, the cool graphics is probably why
All benchmarks are different, and none are completely indicative of real world performance

[Q] Will Jelly bean improve gaming performance as well or just the UI?

Hi new to android i have a GS 3 and want to know if Jelly bean will improve the gaming performance `framerates`???

No. I don't think so. Google said that it had added extra frames for the ui animations only.
Gaming may improve if there is a newer linux kernel in jb.

I hope both improvements but I don't really know it, sorry
I'd put my money on it. Processing will now revolve around the VSync timing which should maximise the amount of time the phone has to render the next frame. If a frame is dropped, triple buffering will kick in and hopefully make it a smoother experience while increasing latency a little, and getting rid of it once it is no longer a problem.
Assuming this hasn't already been implented by games in some way (which i can't vouch for), there will definitely be a boost in consistent framerate (not performance, your CPU and GPU aren't becoming more powerful).
i think jelly bean is more simple and light than the older one, it should improve gaming performance.

i watched the developer casts and it seems to be not like you pointed out. vsync is an additional feature which you as an app maker can use if you wanted to. they provide tools to line up your frames nicely but it will probably not affect anything else. im running JB for a week now and no app or game seemed faster to me. i saw the improvements when using their launcher though.

I watched the vsync portion of the presentation again to see if I got it wrong but ended up with the same understanding as I said. Unless there is a fundamental difference with games (now or in the past), it will all revolve around vsync timings internally within android.
Watch it again, if you understand otherwise let me know and correct me, I don't want to spread false information

[Q] JellyBean Battery Life

How do you all find the new Jellybean update's battery life? Better or worse than ICS? I'm guessing worse because of Google Now, but just wondering...(I don't have phone yet)
seems worse to me i was gettinf better battery life on ICS.. my battery drops from 100% to 50% way to fast..
Battery life on the new JB update is amazing!
Even MeanROM never was this good with battery life!.
After a couple of days and restarts its looking good

If you were not such a FLASHAHOLIC just sayin
There is actually a logical and technical reason as to why JB have worse battery life than ics.
As many people probably know, JB focuses on project butter which aims to make the android experience smoother.
Unfortunately, Google's philosophy is about brute forcing into the problem by relying on raw cpu and gpu power instead of fixing their shaddy code.
The most noticeable difference on JB is UI becomes smoother but that smoothness came at a price, the cpu and gpu has to work harder to maintain 60fps with added vsync triple buffering on top of it.
I also noticed that HTC has boosted the.default 3d gpu clock of adreno 225 on their latest kernel to compensate for the additional workload to maintain smoothness. Some people that is familiar to overclocking knows that if the clocks are increased, the power consumption also increases. It is also not help by the fact that EVO 4g LTE can't always maintain 60fps so it has to work extra hard.
Probably not a lot of people know this but android has abysmal input lag and Google tried to address the issue(in which imo they horribly failed) by boosting the cpu clocks everytime you touched the screen. Obviously, raising the clocks would have negative impact on battery life so if you type a lot or Swype a lot or scroll alot, the cpu would get raised everytime. You could see it yourself by installing a program called micro cpu monitor.
The most obvious way to see the input lag in action is try playing a music then replicate the beats on apps like real drums. The lumia 900 which has single core or even the iPhone 4 which has single core 800mhz cortex a8 does not suffer from horrible input lag.
I was really disappointed with Google and it seems like they have no plans to really fix the core problems in the near future.

Can there be a ROM for gaming?

I would really love to see a ROM specially made for gaming in our Beautiful and powerful Xperia tablet Z (Pollux/Windy).
Can any developer(s) build a custom ROM with some performance tweaks just like as in EvoMix Kernel and extra gaming features like:
Resolution Changer (To increase the performance in games)
Google Play games integration
Ramp up CPU to 1712000 MHz
Ramp up GPU to 487 MHz
In-built support for Game Controllers
Game theme and boot Animation
Default I/O schedulers best for gaming {Maybe ZEN I guess as suggested in this awesome article about I/O schedulers http://androidmodguide.blogspot.in/p/io-schedulers.html}
GFX optimization (As in Gltools)
And other optimizations For Stability and performance.
Seems like a dream now and i know there will be a lot of work behind it. But Our tablet is built for performance and it can do much better with some performance optimizations. So Anyone interested?

Let's be frank, TabZ is 2.5 years old hardware, so while it can actually handle some games pretty well, the new ones are too tough for its GPU especially.
With some kernel modifications and overclock you can squeeze some more out of it, but Antutu ~26.5 is probably a maximum for S4 Pro chipset and Adreno 320 graphics (without heavy hardware voltage mods and cryonic cooling).
By using apps like GLTools, you can fine tune performance, but usually by degrading quality (lowering render resolution), and offloading GPU this way..
So can the gaming ROM be made? Sure, it can, but the use of it on old hardware (also software, cause Sony will not update it to Android 6.0) is under a question.
Devices built on Snapdragon 800 (801 & 805) like Z2/Z3TC are more capable of high quality hires gaming, while they getting older too.
Thanks @Rootk1t We can optimize a game in different ways.. And we can make heavy games like modern Combat 5 run smoothly on our Tablet Z. If you use a resolution changer app and decrease the resolution on your screen you can get a noticeable increase in performance in the game. With this if we have EvoMix kernel features like overclocked CPU and GPU etc.. I'm sure we can get rid of lags and play most of the games smoothly. But unfortunately, the resolution changer app does not seem to work with CM based ROMs.
I'm pretty much of a noob to developer thingy, but our developers know how to optimize the tab for max performance by taking out unwanted apps and adding some tweaks to the kernel/ROM.
I just can't wait for a gaming rom to be released.
But that's a sad news about Marshmallow

It's like gaming on PC. If don't have powerfull graphicscard or you have a laptop with built in one, you need to decrease resolution, let's say from 1920x1080 to 1280x720, after this framerate will increase, maybe to playable state, but quality will drop.
So the more you decreasing resolution the more drop quality of picture. On PC, we can add some antialising, on TabZ we're unable to do that, cause it's just won't handle that. On some games it is not very noticeable, on others it is very noticeable.
EvoMix kernel definitely allows some overclocking, but if you have CM12.1 you can test yourself, in Antutu or Quadrant, the gain from overclocking is not high, but at the same way greatly affects battery life.
Definitely depends on game, but is stressing hardware and battery.

Thanks @Rootk1t i understand that
Is there any way can we figure out why resolution changer (NoMone Resolution changer) does not work with CyanogenMod?

It seems that CM is using another way to change resolution. Don't know is it a bug or a feature, but still there are mentions of it.
Try using other apps like Resolution Changer Pro.

Ummm... resolution changer doesn't work either on my CrDroid. It changes the dpi though but not resolution.
