I've had a look at some of the threads discussing upgrading to WM6 (or above) but I'm left a bit confused, there are many different versions by the looks of it. Which version would be best for my SPV M600 (unlocked Orange), I'd like as many features as possible.

I'm using Vista on my pc.
Because your device is a G4, it may not be possible to upgrade with Vista...
However, many ROMs have different features... Gullums Touch series, or Coffie ROMs have many features and a lot of programs integrated so may be somewhere to start but trying some ROMs out is the only way you'll find what you really like.
You have a G4 device and you must HardSPL before flashing a ROM.
i was facing the same problem myself only a few weeks ago but i read all the sticky posts and the wiki then took the plunge and i upgraded to maxniper's wm6 touch bow this runs stable on my G4 spv and it is full of useful apps and features now as you can see in my signature i have over clocked and upgraded my spv has been officially pimped by the xda community

I m using the o2 neo SPL4 with dopod rom as 2.15.13.27
I m planning to upgrade to WM6..
After lookin at all the threads i m still havin some doubts..
1.I have finalised on PDA_VIET v4.0.0.1 is it safe for prophet ...with SPL 4 (on reset shows as IPL/SPL 2.15.001)
2.In one of the threads i read as to downgrade using RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID - is it important to do if i m to upgrade with PDA_VIET v4.0.0.1
3.If in case i m stuck in between of the upgrade will i be able to ROLLBACK to my existing WM5..
4.Any other tried and tested ROM of WM6...
5.Will it really make sence to upgrade to WM6.
6.Any new update for dopod ROM 2.15.13.27
7.Finally i know i m a fool to ask you again but can you give me the step by step procedure for upgrade....

Can't answer all your questions but with regard to the actual upgrade then follow this thread. Its a sticky right at the top of this forum and is there to aid people through the process.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE follow it word for word. It works if you do this but you may get into difficulties if you don't - you have been advised.
I have successfully used the process a number of times to go back and forth between WM6 versions and then back to WM5.
Remember that if you want to go back to your original WM5 ROM you'll need the ROM upgrade for this in order to do it. The download links are there for everything you'll need for WM6 - use them.
If you are in any doubt then STOP and don't go any further. Ask for help in the forum or reread the instructions. The large numbers of issues that people seem to have are, I am convinced, caused by either not using the instructions or not following the published ones.
Having used WM6 on my Propher I'd have to say that currently the available ROMs whilst fantastic achievements, aren't really what I'm prepared to use on a daily basis. If you are happy to beta test and install your apps everytime you upgrade then go for it.
I am currently back on WM5 either until I see a WM6 ROM that I am able to use 'in anger' day to day.
I'm really interested to see if we get a working HTC Touch port - now that would be something.

Judge by your questions, you would be more happy:
1. Buy a Touch
2. Stay in WM5
The WM6 ROM for Prophet that you are looking for or for that matter, that many are looking for, is still in the kitchen, cooking.....
Unless you feel that you fit the pre-requitsite, or you feel humping Prophet is more enjoyable than .... then jump to the WM6 pool ......

Hey thankks a lot for all your valuable time...
so i conclude that this is not the right time to jump to WM6 as far as prophet is concerned..as the ROM are still BETA am i right ???
but what if I wanna use the PDA_VIET v4.0.0.1 is it safe for prophet ...
or any other ROM.
Also will the newer ROM (if any coming) will be having the TOUCH features..
m really looking fwd to it on my prophet..
Finally do we really gonna have the official WM6 rom for prophet..by any chance ,if yes when...

There will never be an official WM6 release for the prophet, these wm6 roms you'll find are from other pda's made ready for the prophet.
They are all safe to use if you follow the steps that you have red in the upgrade topic.
If you want the HTC Touch gadets on your Prophet you should read this topic and try out the Fantastic Mobiz v2.0b4! rom
You can always switch back to wm5 if you dislike wm6 roms
Any advice: make an backup of your contacts/messages/photoshoots ect. because you will loose anything on your phone memory and find out if you have a G3 or a G4 phone!

so the ROM version that i selected is good on prophet or any better ROM available..
Also will upgrading to WM6 any thing got to do with the GSM service provider...
In mumbai we have HUTCH...so will my GPRS or other be affected..

I can't say which rom is best for you, they all have their own advantages, you'll have to find out yourself which one suits you
Upgrading your rom has nothing to do with your GSM service provider, but your GPRS settings will be lost after an rom update so you'll need to know how to set them right
First of all I wanted to tell you, that I've read through most of the "upgrade to WM6" discussion threads on different "XDA Neo, Qtec S200, etc." boards and I really want to thank you for this gorgeous "how-to-update to WM6" (as well what to do for troubleshooting) guide as well as for the hours of work you spent creating and packing the WM6 version for the S200.
I'm just a standard user who wants to upgrade his XDA Neo to WM6 (following the update instructions). As I do not have the insight on the benefits/drawbacks of different WM6 versions, I would kindly ask you for help:
- What is contained in the different version of WM6, what are the benefits, drawbacks, etc.
- Which is the most stable one and are there features that do not work yet at all under WM6

I understand the reason for your question perfectly, but there is no general answer. There is no official release of WM6 for the Prophet (yet...?) All the ROMs you find here are made by fanatic, obsessed but genius people the like to fool around with there device. The put in, take out functionallity that answers there needs best, or trying to make fame by doing the impossible.
Non of these fearless daredevils is hired by a commercial Vendor that wants a stable big public release.
So if you want to flash, you have to search for a ROM that accidentally meets your wishes.

I really don't want to risk bricking my brand new hurricane, and I would guess I'm not alone, so I wanted to start a general discussion thread for anyone who is happy with wm5.2 the way it is. Things like shortcut remapping, filesystem opening (for the depraved SDA II people, and other things that would be nice to see on a wm5 hurricane.

I bought my Hurricane with wm2003SE installed, but that OS sucks
Now i have installed WM6 Graphite v2.0 on my Hurricane, but i would like to try a good WM5 version.
I was looking and couldn't find a clean wm 6.1 rom for wizard g4 . Everyone of the posted ones has some progs in it. Does anyone have one or can post a link?

i think there was few older builds of clean WM6.1 roms in the wizard mobile thread. Another thing what you can do is to download the desired rom and kitchen and remove the stuff you dont like in the kitchen
Never tryed that, so better not Will try and search more if i could find maybe with minimum programs.
It's not hard to just turn off Touchflo on the ROM in my SIG. After a fresh install, has over 45MB of free memory, and averages about 20MB of RAM at idle.

You have two choices:
HardSPL (semipermanent, fools the hardware into believing that it is unlocked)
SoftSPL (temporary, places the phone in a semi-unlocked state long enough to flash it)
For most people, I recommend SoftSPL, simply because it's easy to revert back to your OEM ROM in between updates, if you turn into a flashing junkie.

It seems that you are ready to upgrade to michyprima 6.1 without needing to do anything before. Since you have "SPL-v3.50.Olinex" your device should be ready. Make sure to download the right version and for you is the one which clearly says SPL3.5:

You'll like the radio 1.58. I, and many others, noticed a very large increase in network data speed after that upgrade. A shame that the hardware supported it from the start but HTC has never officially provided an update for Athena owners.
To further explain the "3.50" MX talked about above, essentially there are 2 versions of the "file system" in the Athena. The factory version is "1.20" if I remember correctly. When AP 4 came out (here on xda-developers) those guys changed the file system so there would be more reserved room for the operating system. AP 4 was very large and needed that extra OS room, but of course the downside was less room for additional programs. That is the "3.50" you see in the bootloader. I still use AP 4 because it had so much built-in I've had to install very little extra stuff to work for me.
SPL 1.20 was the code given once the device was unlocked, can't remember what factory one was. It was all so long ago

To clarify:
1.2 was developed first to unlock standard X7500/X7501 and be able to work on ROMs for those devices. That ROMs were more or less a developed versions of first WM6 coming from various other devices as well as the original X7500/X7501 ROMs.
Then X7510 was released with WM6.1. The ROM was much bigger in space on the disk. X-DEVs (Mainly Pawel and his TEAM together with Olin and cmonx) have decided to use this ROM as a base for AP4. That is why OlinX group have developed new SPL3.5 which created bigger space for this new ROM. Those two SPLs are not compatible. If a ROM is made for SPL1.2, it shouldn't be installed on SPL3.5, and the opposite. However to switch from SPL1.2 to SPL3.5, you have to first install AP4. It is because AP4 installer has SPL3.5 built in. Actually, this is the only way to switch from SPL1.2 to SPL3.5.
If somebody wants to move back to SPL1.2, no problem. Cmonx has prepared special procedure for that. However one should never try to install ROM made for SPL3.5 on the device with SPL1.2 (unless the new ROM is AP4) or any ROM for SPL1.2 on the device with SPL3.5 installed already.
About Athe versions:
AThe100 is on X7500/X7501 devices. Athe400 is on X7510 devices. Those 2 devices look pretty similar, but in fact have big differences in hardware, and because of that, one should never try to install ROM on one of those devices, which was prepared for the other type. The difference is in storage and hardware keyboard. X7510 has flash 16GB storage, while X7500/X7501 have 8GB hard drive. Those two need different drivers. So if you try to install ROM for X7510 on X7500/X7501, you will loose your 8GB hard drive. If you do the opposite, you will loose your 16GB Flash Disk. Normally it shouldn't be possible because ROM installers should not let you do that, but some users here have managed to do this some how, and they had a problem.
