I have a quick question, I didn't see it anywhere so thought I'd ask:
I'm going to be buying a locked 8525 and I want unlock it so I can use with T-Mobile and I want to upgrade the ROM to one of the many ROMs available here.
My question is: is there a particular order this must be done? Can I upgrade the ROM then unlock? Do I have to unlock, then do ROM? Or will upgrading the ROM unlock for me?
Just wanted to check if there one's a certain way, or if anyone else was in a similar situation.

Be a good idea after unlocking to check your SPL again because I'm pretty sure you downgrade it to SPL 1.40. This culd problems if you then try to refash thinking you've got Hard SPL ver 7 (SPL : 2.10 Olipro) installed. Cheers..

Please dont flame me. I have done alot of reading ... so much so that I think I have confused myself. I dont need step by steps how to do it ... I just need to know if what I am reading is correct or not.
I installed the new ROM and here is my info.
ROM 2.06.502.3
Radio 1.16.00.00
IPL - 1.00
SPL - 1.09
From there I did the v3 SIM & CID Unlocker ... which I did before but did again because I was not sure if it would stick.
All I want to do is upgrade the radio ... I drop alot of calls and I am hoping that 1.27.00.00 helps.
To do this, would I need to run the program to take my BL v. to 1.01 MFG from 1.09, then upgrade to 1.04. Then I can install a new radio ROM? Or is there something else that is keeping me from doing it.
I am sorry and I promise not to ask anymore noob questions. I just want to make sure I fully understand.

BTW, I think the new ROM version is great. My 8525 is running better than ever (faster) and battery life is WAY better than it was before. I strongly recommend it. Disable the startup animation though! It sucks and it messes up your volume.

Well, I am by far no expert on this (and scared of bricking my device) ... so what I did was everything you described ... then I re-installed the new Cingular ROM ... thereby upgrading my radio to 1.33.31.00.
Had I foresight, I would have used the unlocker before upgrading to the new Cinguar ROM (so I would not have to install it twice)...live and learn.
I did not bother with the steps you described necessary to install the 1.27 radio ...figuring I could live with 1.33.31.00

You got radio 1.16 which has radiobl 107, so go ahead and grab a copy of the 1.27 radiorom and run the update.
I read that I need to have BL 1.04 to upgrade the radio.
I currently have BL 1.09. So the only way I can go back to 1.04 is by going to imei-check.co.uk and paying for it right?

so, no one answered my prior question ... I realize the Radio ROMs are subjective (and discussed ad naseum in various places on this forum) but I am still looking for a succinct summary (if there is one) as to why I would tinker with my Radio ROM to get off of 1.33 and maybe down to 1.27 or some other.
Are there known and significant issues with 1.33?
Anyone?

Most of the people I see on the forum are on 1.27.00.
I thought I read somewhere that it seemed to work well for most people, although I do not know why 1.33 wouldnt be just as good. Im still a noob.
If anybody can confirm what I am thinking regarding what I need to do, I would greatly appreciate it.

well, 1.33 is working fine for me... and it certainly would be *easier* for you just to re-flash the new cingular rom again (now that you are sim unlocked and super cid) ... that is what I did, and it worked fine. [and candidly, I was to scared of the many steps I was going to need to take to otherwise downgrade my SPL in order to change my Radio]

No issues with 1.33. The only advantage of the 1.27 radio is that it uses radio bootloader (RBL) 1.007, whereas Radio 1.33 has RBL 1.008. The difference is that you can run downgrades on 1.27, but not on 1.33.
The only reason that you might want to downgrade is so that you may flash a trinity Radio if they manage to get the GPS going, which seems unlikely without a hardware mod. So unless you plan on opening up your Hermes at some stage to do some surgery, you don't need to downgrade the radio stack.

Im currently running one of HTC's Roms, SPL-1.09 is my bootloader and im not sure how to reflash with the original T-mobile rom before i head back to the shop to see about a replacement

Good luck with the downgrade - I'd be interested to know how it goes. I also have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, and so far I've put HardSPL 7 and Radio ROM 1.41 onto it. I'm just trying to decide which WM6 ROM I want to try out
Anyway, I have at the back of my mind that I don't really know how to downgrade it in the case of a warranty claim. The MrVanx guide to downgrading WM5 looks ok, but I'd love to know how to put the radio rom back (I guess this would just be the reverse of the upgrade), but then finally taking taking HardSPL off. In fact I'd vote for a guide on it - would write it myself but I have to confess I'm rather a newbie to the world of HTC upgrades....

I´d like to downgrade to original softbank settings. But they only accept warranty issues if you have the original cid? , right?
So putting the old rom back on is not my problem, "un-super-cid" it is.

please excuse, but i have a question and i will not open a new threat.
I use tytn. I have installed the Radio Version 1.40 and the Black 3.01 Rom. I have used HardSPL and when i go into the bootloader i have Herm200 IPL 1.04 and Herm200 SPL 2.10 OliPro. My question is: it is not possible to go back to wm5 with the installer RUU Hermes 1.18....-Qtek_Ger_Ship. Because in this installer is a Radio Rom. When i will use it, i lost my Radio and i have No GSM. The only way to go back is with MrVanx Hermes downgrade guide. Is this correctness ??

sorry if this has been answered already but i have a problem. i have Touch Dual from T-Mobile for over 6 months now and im just frustrated at how slow it can be and how it just freezes up sometimes. so i decided to finally try to change my ROM. i looked thru the forums and thru the posts looking for guides and answers and i found it but still some stuff i do not understand and i know it is better to ask first before doing stuff like this.

it says it all basically except this: i read the SuperCID and SIM unlocker thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395945 ) and it specifically says i need HardSPL 1.15 MFG. in the first link i posted rling stated that the phone should be unlocked first. does that mean that i have to first put HardSPL 1.15 MFG, then unlock it (both sim and CID) and then put HardSPL 1.22? ive looked everywhere but i just cant seem to find it...

It's been a while since i did this, but i don't think there was hardSPL 1.22 when i did.... so it probably wouldn't hurt to do 1.15, then unlock, and finally 1.22... cause in a way that's what i did (i think)...

my cousin has 2 orange spv m3100 and was thinking about upgrading them to windows mobile 6 or 6.1 depending on rom's available
is this easily done?
and would it be best to unlock the phone so it can go on all networks before the rom update or after it?

Upgrading your device's rom is quite easy after youve done it once, just check the wiki page, upgrading for beginners this should tell you all you need to know about flashing a rom for the first time.

no there wasnt a wm6 released for the spv m3100 the actual newest orange rom is a update on wm5 it is in my uploaded file i think if you want to have a look, i used a cooked rom after hard-spl and super cid everything works fine and i have flashed quite a few roms.

James, going to your original question, I've recently done this myself, and over the past week, i've flashed my phone numerous times, so its very easily done.
Just read the guides, and make sure your 100% confident that you've understood it, I did and i'm 100% happy with the outcome!

Tbh, I should've explained something...
My phone is the HTC Hermes 200, not the SPV M3100, although they are the same phone, mines not branded by any network.
It was shipped to me (Bought secondhand) as WM6.1, so all I did last week was updated the HardSPL and since tried a few roms.
I didn't have to use SuperCID, to unlock mine, as it was unlocked, but I do wish you well buddy, and word of recommendation, try not to use branded software on phones, as they bog them down with too much bloatware, stick with what you like.
If need be, I'll help where I can, but tbh, your in safer hands with everyone in here, as all I did was read the guides, and stuck to what was being advised.
The people here are good, which makes it so much easier to use!

well im thinking of getting it unlocked before i do anything to it anyway, when using roms without a specified carrier does that mean i can use any rom or is it best to stick with the operator specified?
if you super cid you device you can use any rom that has been cooked or from any carrier as it is basically a unlock for that a bit like a sim unlock. most people use the cooked roms by the chefs in the wm6 part of the forum where there are wm6/6.1 and 6/5 roms that have been cooked and have different features so you will probably have to do a bit of flashing and some looking around before you find a rom that is best suited to you.

I have an I-mate JASJAM(it was never locked, sold unlocked by the manufacture). Now I want to upgrade the default WM5 to WM6/WM6.5. SO I request u to plz suggest me the easiest and safest way(step-by-step process) to upgrade my jasjam without bricking it and what english-based rom(fast & stable) will be best for me @ the first time.
Although I read the flashing threads many times but I seems to be confused due to many members here have Bricking problem even after following the tutorials. This Jasjam is precious to me(someone gifted. ) and I don't want to loose it. And one thing more I need simple Roms like the default WM5(not with so many addons but must be fast & stable). I have downloaded PDACorner Pro v25, how's it?

this link explained ways to flash your phone but the SDCard seems to be the best one. I flash my SPV M3100 with SDCard 3 times following this wiki.
Another one where it's clearly explained that your bootloader (1.04) allow you to flash with any Tytn custom ROM because this version doesn't verify rom CID :
