Hello,
I would like to upgrate Rom with this one: Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.exe
I installed Hard-SPL and now I have 2.10.olipro SPL version displayed in the bootloader (before I had 1.4).
Actually, in my Hermes300 I have installed :
WM6.0
ROM: 2.54.258.2
ROM date: 07/06/07 (DD/MM/YY)
RADIO: 1.47.00.10
Protocol: 32.80.7020.20H
ExtROM: 3.54.258.102
I don't know if it is the original ROM upgrade from HTC website, because I'm not the firt owner of the phone.
Anyway, If I try to upgrade it by using autodetect mode an error occurs:"Error, Unknown version! You should pick safe SSPL".
Why? What Do I have to do to have Upgrade? Maybe, is there still some kinda of "brand"? Which option should I have to select?
I want to use the most safe upgrading procedure to avoid brick.
P.s. I'm using Windows Xp.
Thanks!!
Pick safe SSPL..... Follow the instructions after OR use the sd card method.
Format sd card fat32 then copy the .nbh file onto it. Rename it to "Hermimg.nbh". Put it in phone and reset to bootloader. Hold down power button, ok button above flywheel and reset with stylus. Hold all buttons in until you get to tri-colour screen. It should recognize the flash image so then follow the prompts.
Find this safer than pc flash.
Cheers......
Thank you very much I will do it!
But I'd like to understand why autodetect mode doesn't work! Do u hava any ideas? Cannot I choose SPL-2.02./2.10/2.30 New Bootloader and is it HARD-SPL choices? I'm a newbie in upgrading and I only understand that to avoi brick I should use HARD-SPL. If I use Force safe SSPL or SD card method can I have a brick?
How about if autodetect doesn't work because I have installed original ROM upgrade from HTC? It is possible?
Thanks.
No flashing method is a guarantee of success. Hard SPL isn't either, it just makes it easier or even possible to fix your phone. If you interrupt a flash you will brick your phone but with Hard SPL its possible to fix. Except if you interrupt the radio rom portion of the flash. I think its OK to say that if you stuff up this part of the flash you won't be able to fix easily, if at all.
Most, if not all, cooked roms DON'T have a radio rom inside. ALL stock roms do.
This is why I said its safer with sd card method. You would have to physically reset the hermes in the middle of a flash to stuff it. With the pc, usb cables can be unplugged, reset buttons can be pushed and blackouts/brownouts do occur. Thats if Activesync doesn't throw a hissy fit and disconnect while trying to update....
>HARD-SPL just makes it easier or even possible to fix your phone.
Ok, and by using SD CARD procedure is it the same?
I mean...now with HARD-SPL installed on hermes can I use every upgrading procedure to fix my phone (if possible)? Or to take advantage from that do I have to use a particular procedure?
Before writing here I read a post where another guy had my same problem and some people answered him to choose SPL-2.02./2.10/2.30 New Bootloader and is it HARD-SPL. But u think is better by SD CARD.... .
Thanks, and I'm sorry for many questions!
Does Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.exe have a radio rom inside? I can upgrade only Rom without RADIO? If yes...how?
Thank you very much!
No, Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full doesn't have a radio rom. Look at the list of apps and tweaks included. It will tell you what radio version it has if it has the radio portion included...( this is for ANY cooked rom. The chefs work hard to make these and are rightly proud of their work.)
Here are the instructions for sd card flash again if you missed the first time
1). Format sd card fat32 then copy the .nbh file onto it. Rename it to "Hermimg.nbh".
2). Put it in phone and reset to bootloader - Hold down power button, ok button above flywheel and reset with stylus. Hold all buttons in until you get to tri-colour screen. It should recognize the flash image so then follow the prompts.
Its that easy when you have Hard SPL on your phone...
Cheera...
It worked very well. Thank u very much!
Sow if you don't have Hard Spl on your phone the SD flash method won't work? I have a spv m700 and coun't manage to install hard-spl.
Go to the last few pages of the Hard SPL thread - its a sticky - You'll find out how to install Hard SPL using the sd card method. Don't have to worry about sync errors with the PC then...
Cheers...
I have got Hard-SPL 2.60. Which one should I pick in the SPL Meny? I'm kinda noobish when it comes to this ...
I hope someone can help me , i ve tried a lot of roms, and i cant upgrade it, i also tried the sd flash , but it got stuck on the boot screen , could someone please help me, what should i do?
Is there anyway that is 100% safe to upgrade or is there always some amount of risk that a unit will end up a brick ?
I've read so much here and on other forums my head spins lol. I was like all set to just do it and then I got the phone lol, now I'm getting cold feet because I read so many people have bricked their phone.
Also can the SPL be done by SD card or does it need to be done with a computer ? I know some will say do a search, I have and man there are so many choices is there just a page or link with a simple idiots guide ?
Its better to do all the upgrading through a PC. Its more safer than SD Card upgrade.
Simple way
Do the HardSPL first then do anything you want. Try to look for Mr.Vanx guides
I agree with beastfellow, install hardspl first then you can flash any hermes rom you like. I have flashed my heremes over 50 times,i even flashed it 12 times in a week as long as the roms you have have no radio or spl in them then they should be fine to flash. Just make sure they hermes roms you are flashing.
hardspl can be downloaded from here http://pof.eslack.org/hermes-unlocker/
guide to how to do it is located here

other guides and there links can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
anyway my advice is to go for it. I have only ever bricked one device and that was a wallaby back in the day.
good luck and make sure you read EVERYTHING ,twice if you have to
Dalork,
I felt exactly the same way as you a couple of years back. What I did was to read every scrap of info I could find, constantly assessing the risk, while looking for a stable rom.
Key criteria for my rom search was what other people were saying about that rom (good and bad) and the developers willingness to resolve issues. In the first instance this led me to Schaps and his brilliant roms. For my rom history see my signature.
Read the following threads very carefully, then read the threads on one rom from Schaps and, say, a rom from Kin0ken. Look at the 6.0 roms, NOT the 6.1 versions...

Also use these search tools:

Once you are fully genned up then prepare your kit carefully, e.g. make sure your phone batttery is fully charged, then upgrade your rom as you logically and carefully work your way step by step through Mr Vanx guides.
First time I upgraded I had the Mr Vanxguide open on my desktop PC whilst I ran the rom upgrade off my laptop. Using the laptop meant that in the unlikely event of a power cut (does happen where I live) I wouldn't instantly end up with a bricked phone.
Good luck and PM me if you need help/any further info.
Cheers

Thanks for the help folks, I'm just worried I'll brick it as I have a friend who tried this and his is a nice paper-weight now.
I must be getting confused as I thought doing the flashing direct frm the SD card was the safest ?
Anyways, I'm not certain at this point which is the best or safest ROM to go with. I was going to do the Hard-SPL-V7 (2.10 Olipro) and was think of the Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
ATM the unit has ROM 1.30.707.4 8/22/06 and Radio 1.20.31.10
I don't think it's ever been flashed as yet as the bootloader is IPL-1.01-SPL-1.06
ask your mate if i can have his paper weight i have a nice rock to swap for it
scousemartin, lol I had already asked him that before I bought my dopod as I was hoping to come here and find out if it could be fixed.
Another point, after upgrading the phone to say WM6 or whatever can you still recover/reload the original factory WM5 system/set-up ?
I guess I'm in-fact quite happy with how the phone is already I just really want to be able to use a 8GB Micro SDHC card so I can load more programs and music. I don't know if any of the radio ROM's will improve my signal as such but battery life seems to be ok already. Used the phone quite a bit today, started off with 80% battery and finished off tonight with still having 70%.
Then why not search for the wm5/6 sdhc fix instead of potentially bricking your phone. Try this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344338
Also, I still reckon, and I believe I'm not alone, that flashing via the sd card is safest....
Direct quote from Wam7's posts -
Flashing your ROM without HARDSPL is like going to a South African brothel without any condoms...
and not using a MicroSD Card is like walking into a prison, dropping your pants and yelling "come and get it boys!"
I rest my case...

Thanks heaps for that, and I agree I did think flashing from a SD card would be safer as there is no risk in USB/sync problems, no cable to bump...etc..etc... But then I'm a total newbie, what I think doesn't always make sense lol.
If I just do the Hard-SPL-V7 and then something like Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full and don't do the radio ROm is there really much chance of bricking the Dopod ?
While I say I'm not bothered with upgrading the OS and everything else, it's mostly because I'm **** scraed of bricking it lol. I guess it would be silly to say I wouldn't like the better features of a decent upgrade, I just have to get my head around it somehow. But I WILL need more space as I really like to put lots of music on it and some games/apps. Hence the SDHC, I'd like 4GB but would love 8GB as I doubt I'd ever run out of room then.
As it is with my current phone I have 3 x 1GB cards which I just swap around and I hate having to do that and I'm always losing/misplacing the damn things.
If you are SERIOUSLY thinking of upgrading, Hard SPL your phone. You can find the thread "Hard SPL or how not to brick your Hermes" in the upgrading section. Its best to do this as it is the safest we thing you can do. It won't prevent a brick but it makes it a lot more fixable. I have never bricked a phone that I couldn't fix (yet) with Hard SPL on it.
Its fairly difficult, I find bricking the hermes when using the sd card method, as long as you make sure you have Hard SPL, Unlock your Hermes(if needed, did this as wasn't sure) and make sure your battery is charged.
Unlock before putting Hard SPL on though as it downgrades the SPL to 1.10 olipro.
Also use Hard SPL ver.7 (should say SPL 2.10 olipro after upgrade) as ver 9 is the developers SPL (says SPL 2.60) and throws up error messages (if done from the pc) after flash.
As for the rom, no-one can say what is best... What is suitable for me may not be for you. If you ask this questiopn on a thread you'll be inundated with "This rom is best..." remarks. Search and you will see.
Hope this shines some light on the subject (forgive me if this seems scattered, too much caffeine and not enough sleep), anyway,
Cheers....
Thanks for the info and it does help/shed light on it. I have read heaps of info about most everything here, maybe more than I should have even to sart off with lol. I would normally not have been so concerned except that I have a friend close by who tried this exact way of flashing and still somehow bricked phone. Though he did say with folks help here he did get the unit working again but the radio never worked again I think he said.
I already downloaded a copy of Hard-SPL-V7 and Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
Not certain if this is the right one for me or not but seems alot of people like it and find it stable. I also grabbed this HER_DopodAsia_AUS_1.30.707.4_1.20.31.10_WWE_Ship though I'm not certain if it's any good or not. I haven't grabbed the unlocking file, not sure I need it or not. With flashing the Hard-SPL-V7 by sd card am I right in what I have read that all I need to do is rename the nbh. file and not the RUUWrapper_exe.
I am finding it difficult to get the Dopod to use 3G for web browsing/email though. But someone told me that the original set-up/ROM wasn't much good for the Optus/Virgin 3G network.
Yes you do only have to copy and rename the .nbh file. Don't forget to run the sspl.exe file from the phone however if you upgrade Hard SPL from the sd card. I ran the unlock tool as a precaution. I DID use the pc for this. I also used the pc to install Hard SPL. Hard SPL takes about 2 secs to install so no real trouble there but the unlocker will change your radio rom. I'd probably install the official Telstra rom to get your tradio back to 154.30.10 after unlocking (it changes to 150.00.00). Also, if you need to search for CircAU's roms as they are made for us Aussies and have a little tool that allows automatic setup of MMS/SMS. You just pick which carrier you have and press start.
You might be able to find a cab file for it on the forum. Do a search for"CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab". This can then be loaded into ANY rom and used to fix your setup for MMS/SMS. Make sure you also run the ARCSoft MMSComposer cab file first...
Cheers...

You got me really confused now lol, I thought I only needed to run the Hard SPL and then whatever ROM I liked (was looking at ones without radio ROM's). Also do you think it would be wsie to flash it with a radio stack for Telstra when I'm using Virgin as it seems Virgin is using the Optus network.
Sorry if I sound daft just the more I read the more confused I'm getting. Also it seems that everyone does have a different opinion on how and what is best. Just want to work out what is best for me before I have a go at bricking my phone lol. I've not found setting up SMS/MMS hard at all. Seeed pretty easy, having most my trouble setting it up for Virgin's 3G access for web browsing. Just can't seem to get it to work, got it set-up for wifi at home no drama but don't really need web access from the phone when I'm at home and have several computers.
Sorry, Information overload...
1. CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab - this cab file does a quick loading of sms/mms setting on the phone. You can use ANY rom and then setup your messaging with this. First however, install 2.
2. ARCSoft MMSComposer cab - This allows the use of mms on your phone properly. Some roms don't seem to set up your mms properly. If you have this installed then run 1. it will fix it all up.
I believe it should fix up ALL settings (including the 3g ones) as when you flash a rom, no native settings are kept and I've never had trouble using 3g after installing 1. and 2. then running 1. (will be in programs). It will soft reset your phone after setting it up.
Confused...
Really, just find the rom you want, check in settings as some have an auto network wizard to set this up. I just like CWW Enterprises Aus Operator Con.cab as it was made by an Aussie to use here. Its good when you don't have the network setup wizard (lite roms generally don't come with the frills)
Hope this clears it up....(preferably like glass and not like mud)
Cheers...
I am intrested in buying a Hermes, most likely the unbranded HTC tytn that I believe comes all unlocked.
For that one the procedure is the same still, right?
Hard spl install and choose rome you like
I have seen eithe Schaps 6 or the newer 6.1 with diamond stuff in it
So would I have the same procedure. To find the hard spl (not sure which version to install) and then find the rom w/out a radio?
es_bih, yes. Its the same procedure. Instyall Hard SPL ver 7(ver 9 is the developer one. It tends to throw up an error after upgrading via pc, no problem though).
As for the rom, make sure its a hermes rom. Any you find on this forum are for the Hermes BUT if you go to the other forums (herald, kaiser, etc....) the roms will brick your device as it isn't compatible with your device. Cooked roms are good but until you get to know the vagaries of wm6.1 I'd suggest to stick with wm6. Its more stable than wm6.1. Play with that and then when you are confident enough to try, then go for wm6.1.
Most if not all cooked roms come without a radio rom.
Cheers...
Tried doing the Hard-SPL-V7 on Vista x64 computer and get error 260 problems.
Tried on a XP laptop and got a different option. The first screen that comes up after running the RUUWrapper.exe not only give me the choice of "Force SSPL" but also allows me to tick "Is this Hard SPL ? "
In the guides I've been reading it says you should only get the "Force SSPL". So my question is seeing as I have the option of ticking "Is this Hard SPL?" should I ?
Installing Hard SPL? Tick SSPL. After that you can pick either.
Hmmm, can't seem to get it to do it. Sounds so simple I must be missing something somewhere. No matter what I try I stillget the ERROR 260 (update error)
Ok guys, I bricked my 8525, but luckily I had insurance on it so a new one should be here tomorrow.
What is the absolute best way to SIM/CID unlock it without screwing up the radio stack?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
GunRunner
if its not sim unlocked follow these instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
If it is simunlocked then do this and follow these instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
For sd card flash instructions go to page 116, post 1160.
And for added safety I always use the sd card method.... No pc sync problems while trying to flash, "accidental" usb cords being pulled out or brownout/blackouts to affect the flash and brick my Hermes ($$$).
Cheers...
I'm sure the phone is SIM locked....so I'll just use HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a.zip to SIM/CID unlock it, right?
So will I need to flash it with HardSPL later, just in case I have a bad flash? Or should it be ok after unlocking it?
I am asking because I used HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a.zip to unlock my last one, and the radio stack was toast after that....
Double Post....
1st make sure you know what radio you have. Then run sim unlock, then Hard SPL your phone. After Hard SPLing your phone USE THE SD CARD METHOD to reinstall whatever radio you want. I say to check what your radio is because it MAY be the best for your location and network.
MAKE SURE YOU HARD SPL YOUR PHONE BEFORE PUTTING A NEW RADIO ROM ON BUT AFTER YOU UNLOCK YOUR PHONE.
To use sd card method (make sure you have better than 50% battery) -
1. Format sd card fat32 and copy the RUU_Wrapper.nbh file onto it. Rename to "hermimg.nbh".
2. Put Hermes into bootloader after installing the sd card - hold power, OK button above flywheel and reset wiht stylus, hold in until you get to tri-colour screen.
3. Follow the prompts and DON'T INTERRUPT THE FLASH or you will have another brick....
Then you can put whatever rom on too. I recommend the sd card method as it is safer (in my opinion) because unless you disconnect the battery or reset in the middle of a flash its pretty hard to actually interrupt the flash.
You can also us ethe sd card method to flash Hard SPL - page 116, post 1160 of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Cheers...
Thanks for the detailed info bro...I ordered a 2 gig micro SD card to do the flashing with, should be here today!...Then let the flashing begin...lol
GunRunner
Well, first off, thanks for the help. Not sure what went wrong last time, but this one unlocked, flashed and runs fine....the only obvious thing is that it downgraded my radio from 1.47.10 to 1.16.00.
GunRunner
You can fix this by using the sd card method to upgrade a RADIO ONLY ROM. If you took note of what radio you had as I suggested you should be able to download it and reflash it again... I suggest using the sd card method as unless you haven't charged your battery to more than 50 %, actually press the reset button in the middle of the flash or take the sd card out in the middle of the flash there isn't much else that will brick your Hermes. Please note that the radio flash will take a little while to finish, just be patient.
Cheers...
Thanks for all the help Ultramag69....SD method flat out didn't work with my phone for some reason, and I did everything as listed...so I just ran the flash from my PC (power is generator backup w/UPS). It flashed fine and my radio is back to what it should be now...
Thanks

HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a - whats wrong
I want to test some overseas simcards I purchased in preparation of my boss leaving for Italy/France. Wanted to test them in my HTC Tytn (Rogers) first. Running WM6 (BlackMagic) and everything went smooth during the Unlocking process and I ran the executable on the Tytn and did a SIM unlock but when I put the SIM in it says about a Pincode and 3 attempts I entered a random code now I have 2 attempts, I've read somewhere its very bad if you use all these attempts up so I am looking for direction on what to do next.
Try running the simunlock .exe file on your phone again - don't reflash the radio rom and SPL... Check if the simcards have a pin lock - I put a pin lock on my phone to stop it from being used if stolen, when the phone turns off you can't use the sim card to make calls. Read the documentation that came with the sims to make sure it doesn't have a default pin activated.
Cheers...
Phone is a MDA Vario 2 (Herm300), though i had ran the SIM & CID unlocker succesfully a few months ago and have been using an o2 sim since.
I thought i'd upgrade to WM6 (installed it fine over a year ago) so picked the o2 one from the list on here. The upgrade went fine, it completed and i clicked Finish when i was prompted. The device first got stuck on the Windows Mobile screen then froze up when it actually goes past on to the today screen. The o2 customisation stuff starts to install but as before it freezes after 2 minutes or so, after soft reset it bypasses that and boots to Today screen. I'm also getting the No GSM message on the o2 splash screen prior to the freezing up. When it does boot up to Today screen all functions are working for about 2 minutes then it dies.
So now it wont connect to activesync and nor will it respond to any SD card install. Bit cheesed off, had my head in the Wiki almost all day trying things out but with no joy and something that was straight forward over a year ago has turned into a nightmare and my brain now aches.
Is there any way i could get back to the default tmobile rom? All i'll do then is run the SIM & CID unlocker again and leave it at that. I only wanted WM6 for the HTML emails.
You didn't flash Hard SPL V7, did you?
You can try installing the stock rom back again but if you can't get it to run you're in for a world of time consuming reading....
You MUST Install Hard SPL V7 if you recover your Hermes as it makes it easier to recover if something like this happens...

Yeah, remembered that one. I'm doing that now as i speak, just formatted the 2gb card to FAT32. I'll be back with the results shortly
Imanaged to install the Hard SPL on my device via SD card. Fortunately now and again my device boots to today screen, but only for about 2 minutes before the whole thing freezes up and has to be reset.
So during this time i copied the SSPL-HERM.exe to the phone from my SD card, deleted it once copied and took the battery out. Then when i powered device up into Bootloader i just followed the instructions, pressing the power button then the install was complete. Took about 5 seconds.
So now my device is Hard SPL-2.10.Olipro.
Am i right in thinking that now my device is prepared to be flashed? I still get the No GSM warning at the o2 splash screen and the device still crashes after 2 minutes, thats if it got that far after it gets stuck on the Windows Mobile screen.
I'm thinking now i might be better off reverting back to the default tmobile branded WM5 that was already installed.
Try installing that 1st. It may fix things.
If it does, do the search for how to fix bad blocks as it sounds like this may be a problem too.
As you now have Hard SPL V7 installed, after you check for bad blocks, you can then use the sd card method to flash whatever rom you please. I believe its safer than using the PC simply because the only things that will interrupt the flash are flat batteries, manual reset and taking the sd card out during flash.
Good luck...

I followed the instructions for flashing with sd card using the tmobile WM6 rom, which told me to extract the nbh file from within the rom and rename it loading it to the sd card before restarting the device to bootloader.
I did this and it said it was completed after what must've been only 5 seconds. Something must have been wrong with that. Especially as it still boots an o2 splash screen.
What am i doing wrong here? I'm sure i have followed every guide to the word so i'm a bit lost.
Once i've downloaded the rom i want, what do i put on the SD card in order to flash from it?
3 things...
1 MUST be 2Gb card or less.
2. MUST be formatted FAT32 - comes default format FAT.
3. Spelling has to be correct. Must be hermimg.nbh, no mistakes allowed.
Check these things, never failed for me as I don't use the P\C to flash since I found out how to do this...
Cheers...
3 steps.
1. Format sd card FAT32 and copy .nbh file onto it, rename to hermimg.nbh.
2. Insert card into Hermes and reset to bootloader.
3. If everything is right, follow directions.
Easy...
I've done it! Yay
**** knows where i'd be without you guys. BIG BIG thankyou to all who posted useful information for me to read in the forums.
It took a while but eventually the v3a unlocker got there. Booted the phone up and it now seems to works fine, it hasn't frozen up either.
Alright so about 3 weeks ago i started upgrading my hermes. i started off by downloading the 2.10.Olipro hard spl and radio version 1.16.00.00. i unlocked the cid as well. then i put this rom on with no problems. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=458456
Now everytime i try to load anything from my usb my phone gets stuck in bootloader and i get a error 260 message saying my phone is not connected to my pc. ive tried multiple cables and updated my activesync. even if i try to use the sd card method i get stuck in bootloader yet again. ive been trying everything i can find on this forum for the last 5 hours and i feel something like this.........im quite the newb in this stuff so i figure this is a easy fix that i keep overlooking.
SD card method....
1. Make sure SPL is 2.10 olipro & battery is charged.
2. Format 2Gb or less sd card FAT32 and copy .nbh file to it. Rename to hermimg.nbh.
3. Insert sd card into Hermes and reset into bootloader - hold ok button above flywheel, power button and reset with stylus. Hold in until tri-colour (bootloader) screen appears.
4. Follow the prompts.
Easiest and safest way to flash ROMs...
Cheers...
If you need to use sd card method to flash Hard SPL, read post 1160 on page 116 of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722

Yeah, you could, but this way he has to search a bit and get used to the ui at XDA-Developers... Might even decide to use the search function, horrors....
I was actually going to add that he might use the search function too but thought i would give you room to reply
