There are allready many threads on this.
But to conclude:
If you don't have any issues with your current version: stay with it.
You might consider 1.72 (the Qtek or iMate versions, NOT the T-Mobile beta) especially when:
1. You need certain Bluetooth options (ie serial port protocol) and don't want to mess around with hacks or extra 'tools'
2. Battery life is important
For me these points were enough to DO the upgrade (coming from 1.63 T-Mobile NL). And very happy with it.
Keep in mind that (unless you find a 1.72 from your own operator) you will have quite some work with getting all the customisations right.
One of these days I will post a good working set (no issues in a month holiday!!) of customisations to be used as a an extended rom for T-Mobile NL
i'm currently using the T-Mobile ROM v1.72WWE had no problem with it. the batt life was improved noticeably. I was using the O2 ROM v1.66WWE
as for my bluetooth i'm using the widcomm BT-PPC/PE v1.0.0 build 1400. no problems with it except that it turns off whenever i set my phone to standby mode.

1.72 ROM Editing the Connectivity
Hi, I am v happy with the 1.72 ROM... I have successfully added my local GPRS setting for my operator.
but ... I can't edit my ISP GPRS settings.
In the select network, edit My ISP, the existing connections doesn't show up to allow me to edit the settings. No exisiting connection to "tap" on!?

1.72 ROM
i have 'salad rom' with asian flavour(Included 'auto configuration' & 'o2 connect) and happy with it.
rom 1.72WWE, radio 1.17, ext.rom 1.72.900 (main rom by Qteq, radio by T-mobile, ext.rom by edsubsoft).
untill now ;
phone, gprs, activesync, run program, MS BT stack, sms, mms ........are running well. (maybe i am lucky with it)
keep to my salad untill SE come out.

Most of the post regarding ROM Salads and customizations are beyond what I wish to perform on my device. To dat I have only loaded T-Mobile ROM upgrades that required nothing more than loading them automatically. I currently have the T-Mobile U7K Beta on my MDA II.
Can someone please explain the following:
1. Is there another T-Mobile 1.72 WWE available that I can load, non-beta?
2. I see other Custom ROMs on this site that state T-Mobile. Can I simply load those automatically or will I have to get into country ID, .nbf files, etc?

I'm looking for an official T-Mobile 1.72 ROM, si I can get rid of the 1.72 Beta, or I'm looking for someone's custom ROM that I can load just like I could an official one. In other wors the custom I suppose would be ok, but I do not want to mess around with opeing the ROM and disecting and changing certain settings. Like I say, it just may not be out there.

Is it recommended to upgrade to the latest version or am I ok with that? One thing I don't have is WAP2
When You upgrade, is it a new install? or really an upgrade? (you have to reinstall custom software?)

If you are happy with what you have stay with it.
It is a reinstall, not an upgrde. You will need to reinstall apps and settings.
If the new version will give you a feature you want (or if you are obsessed with having the latest) then upgrade.

Well, the only feature I feel I need is WPA2 so I don't have to change my home network to WPA. Can I upgrade that (what?) with out a reinstall?

Following. I have a German Vodafone VPA Compact S / HTC Prophet
I have the following ROM versions installed
ROM version: 20.5.61.35 WWE
ROM Date: 7/12/08
Radio Version: 02.07.20
Protocol version: 413.1.03
ExtROM version: Varanusvincent
I have the following ROM with TouchFlo Installs

My question would be whether that is current or whether it is a ROM with TouchFlo is what currently is still current. TouchFlo 3D would be very nice.
I have the Compact S only recently and am using the ROM is not yet so. Accordingly, it is difficult for me to recognize what is now the latest.
But in principle, would be one with the latest TochFlo or TochFlo 3D is not bad.
How do I really what the current ROM version is?

I am also grateful to all who are here and work hard and create the entire ROM. These are already all masterpieces.

Ok i don't think that touch flo3d is working on the Prophet yet but it is getting ported to qvga so we will have to see if that ever becomes possible for us
as for the current ROM you can tell if your rom is current by the build number the rom you are running is wm6.1 build 21015 wich is a current build unless you want to try the the new wm6.5 builds hope this helps

Introduction
With all the recent released and support for softwares, I am pleased to inform existing Atom Life user that a series of improved ROMs are now ready for download. There are various improvements in this new row.
System information
OS Version: Windows Mobile(R) 6.1 Professional
OS Core: Windows CE OS 5.2.21051
AKU: 1.6.4
Improvements
Some of the key highlight of the improvements for the commonly used features includes:
• Arcsoft MMS - updates to version 5.0.31.116.
• Java - updates Jblend to version 20090316.2.1.
• Excess old files - cleans (almost) all the unused official OEM softwares' files that have not yet been deleted.
• Translation - fixes some chinese translation issues.
• XIP modification - changes the version of ROM(to 200900601B2WWE / 200900601B2CHT) and hard-reset date(to 1/1/2009) by XIP editing natively.
Requirement before upgrade
- MiniSD memory cards with capacity from 128MB to 2GB
MiniSDHC memory cards are NOT supported and may result in damages to your devices.
SPECIAL NOTES
All data and applications will be lost. Please backup data before the installation. Reinstallation of third-party applications will be required.
PRECAUTIONS
1. Make sure battery power of your device is fully charged.
2. Reset your device and close all running applications prior to upgrade.
3. Do not interrupt the ROM upgrade process.
4. Do not place other files in your miniSD memory card for ROM upgrade.

FAQ
Why do I need upgrade / reflash my ROM?
A ROM upgrade / reflash may help to solve issues like slow response, device freeze and drop calls.
How can I check if the installation is successful or not?
Upon successful installation, the software versions should be updated to:
ExtROM : EX0102
Radio : AL1-KLNC-2340_080121-RS001
ROM : 200900601B2WWE / 200900601B2CHT
To check, please go to Start > Settings > System tab > System Info
What happens if my upgrade stops?
Should the installation process be interrupted or terminated abnormally, please restart your device, ensure that there is only the AL1.DIO file in your miniSD memory card, then repeat the process again. If the installation process still cannot complete successfully, try to re-download the ROM as the file you downloaded may have been damaged.
Installing ROM upgrade
Preparation:
1. Download the ROM upgrade file from forum.xda-developers.com and store it in your computer under any directory.
2. Unzip the file you downloaded and copy it into a miniSD memory card.
3. Make sure the battery of the device is fully charged.
4. Synchronize your data to your PC and copy all files in your device you want to keep to your PC.
5. Restart your device and close all running applications prior to upgrade.
6. Do not interrupt the ROM upgrade process.
WARNING: All data and add-on applications will be lost permanently after the upgrade process.

I'm sorry, mates. I'm afraid that the WWE version will be released after the weekend... I have to do the memory reduction and yesterday the latest build of WM6.1 coded 21051.1.6.4 was leaked. Moreover, I'll be quiet busy during this weekend so I won't have enough time to cook. A more fantastic one will be given out next week, please be patient to wait...

WWE is World Wide English while CHT is Chinese Traditional... And you can flash this ROM to your Atom Life if you know Chinese.

yup,anyone prefer nicer interface and graphic rom.and opal interface is the no 1 choice for cooker today to cook on their 6.1 rom its bcoz the graphic are design for touch friendly.easy to controlling,handling,and configuring with a touch.this is a touch era and not a stylus era anymore.nice apps such as opal phonecanvas,opal dailer,opal keyboard,opal steaming media etc are cooked inside a rom today.you can check it at kaiser forum,hermes,blackstone,and etc..btw i keep thinking my self,every hp manufacturer such as nokia,LG,samsung,SE are working with touch hp OS right now.but why microsoft still use this old time keyboard screen of them on this 6.5?.on the landscape mode,you can see it wasted almost 1 inch of the screen.what are they thinking man? im so disappointed.this i a touch era ms not stylus. btw good luck for your Next rom bro! all the best!
Well, you know, HTC softwares are mostly memory eaters. Almost all HTC devices nowadays have at least 128MB RAM but our Atom Lifes have only 64MB. I love HTC UI as well, but some parts of it cannot be duplicated to Atom Life, e.g. PhoneCanvas & TouchFlo2D, in order not to consume too much space of memory.
Therefore, I perfer to cook MWg-official-like ROMs. Nevertheless, I'll cook a fully HTC-like ROM(it is what I have promised but have never done before) at the end build of WM6.1. The pagepool will be reduced by 2MB and XIP modification will be done to create more free RAM.
Fortunately for you, I'll let you cook in different OEM by the kitchen. I'll provide the OEM packages of softwares for you to cook by your perference. The development of WM6.1 will be stopped after official WM6.5 ROMs completely out, and I'll re-provide the WM6.1 kitchen of the last build to let you cook.
WM6.1 is nicer for RAM while WM6.5 is nicer for UI... You can't eat your cake and have it, mates.
P.S. I'll cook WM6.5 ROMs only after there's been some devices' official WM6.5 ROM be released. Before that, just use chriscsh's as they're really good ROMs.
yeah. please dun cook with other applications. clean & let others install as 1gb so its for user to choose themselves

My first post here! I wanted some advice please. I have an HTC Touch Dual (carrier-unbranded and unlocked) which is using the English language. It is currently running WM 6.0 but I want to upgrade it to WM 6.1.
When I go to HTC's support site and type in the phone's serial number, it only gives me access to the PTG (portuguese) ROM, not the WWE (english) version.
I have downloaded the WWE version from a link in these forums (file name: RUU_Nike_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.1_Radio_NikeMR_1.65.28.25_signed_Ship.exe) but I want to know if I can flash my phone OK bearing in mind I don't know the original locale of the device? Can I flash my supposedly portuguese phone with a WWE ROM?
Is there a way of backing-up my current ROM in case flashing goes wrong?

Probably yuor is a portoghese phone with WWE rom, owewer Flash a new hardspl 1.22 and use THIS newest rom (the last one)!
