Things go bad...especially when your screwing with your phone
Doing a clear storage and reinstalling and setting up everything is too tedious
I tried Resco Backup to back the PIM, Registry, and File System. Unfortunatly it doesn't restore the file system properly and causes more problems
It there a way to dump the phones rom then flash it back?
I dont need to tinker with the dump just keep it on my PC
so i can flash it back if I messed up my phone again
I tried a program before but i think i created RAW files...i dont know if
they were useful
any suggestions
you can consider ppcpimbackup. You can use the custom files to back up everything you want to the sd card, and then restore it afterwards.
is there a way to save all contents on a ohone. I mean EVERYTHING on how its setup, programs , files, settings etc, from one pda and flash it back to a different opne of the same model??
i ask this cause i think i will need a warranty replacement soon because my keyboard acts up all the time and keyboard backlight is broken but dont want to spend days setting my phone up again. I have my today theme set up perfect, gps configured perfect, opera mini as default etc etc . Dont want to do it again as i just upgraded rom 3 days ago and redid it all
I don't think you guys utilize UC the way it's supposed to be utilized. UC can do everything for you, right at the first boot, without you even having to touch anything.

SPB back-up. Resco back-up. Sprite back-up. SPB Clone...etc
I've used all of the backup methods and nothing works but SPB Clone. I go up and down ROM's, Radio's and all I have to do is flash the ROM version that I made the clone on and load the cloned image.
I've done this 5 times this month and it's a good way to revert back.
I personally like UC. However, it requires knowing a lot of the 'under-the-hood' details. For instance, I still haven't figured out an easy way to backup my start menu items, I did figure out most of the other stuff. It's been a few weeks since I flashed so I forget what else I'd need to do. I guess I am also still manually fix my htc home (although its backed up in the customizer). I also manually load my ringtones and voice dial backup after my contacts are restored. Eventually I'll have a mortscript or something for those, but it's low priority right now.

You can easily back up your start menu programs by using an xml provisioning file. You configure it to copy a shortcut from the program you want from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs to \Windows\Start Menu. Just make sure to install the xml file AFTER you install the program cab in SDConfig.txt. Below is a sample of one item.
Code:
<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="FileOperation">
<! -- Copies Google Maps to the Start Menu -->
<characteristic type="%CE2%\Start Menu" translation="install">
<characteristic type="MakeDir" />
<characteristic type="Google Maps.lnk" translation="install">
<characteristic type="Copy">
<parm name="Source" value="%CE11%\Google Maps.lnk" translation="install"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>

I've a XDA PPC 2002 phone (from O2 Netherlends). My provider
(O2) publishes Radio and ROM Stack upgrades on almost 2-
months basis.
I've upgraded my device several times with the newest
updates. But, since last upgrades Windows Media Player
doesnt work anymore. I did soft-reset, reinstalled Media player and skins but it doesnt work. It keeps asking for a skin file and then disappears.
If I browse the internet, I can see that this problem must be ocurred to more people.
At the moment my XDA's Radio Version is 4.21.00 and ROM
Version 3.17.03 ENG.
Anyone any tip??
I have rom 3.17.03 eng.
radio 4.21.000.
protocol 32s54,
no problems here with media player 8.5 build 12177
Dead Media Player
Solution:
Use a registry editor, goto \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys. This is where you have hardware button mapping. You should only have 2 keys there (Mine is named 40C1 and 40C2).
If you have the window media issue, you should find another key there, which was put by some other softwares installation, for e.g. Fonix voice central. You need to delete it.
if you dont have a registry editor, download this free one from phm software.
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/download.asp
good luck
ntabikha ,
I looked into the registry, but there are only 2 keys: 40C1 and 40C2.
Has it to do with TomTom???
Kimmie, I am also running Tomtom, so I dont think that is the problem either.
no... i fix my player all the time, because i always try softwares that change those settings. hmmm.
maybe it only works on the original version, not the update you installed.
try removing the updated version, all it does is give u skins. if you dont c are for those, remove it. that will default you back to the original.
my company replaced my xda 5 times, because THEY cant fix it. hahaha
good luck
i did a hard-reset and MediaPlayer worked! But, when I did a restore (of my backup), MediaPlayer came up with the same problem. :-(
Are you restoring a backup from a previous ROM update?
If so, then that is probably the issue...with any ROM update, you need to start from square one and not restore a backup from a previous ROM as it may revert any new improvements to the registry, and what not, of the latest ROM.
You are right. It is better to reinstall all the applications.
But if you have a lot of software, it is very hard to do it all over again!
Cooked my own ROM and got an expired trial version with it. Remove Programs in Settings does not list it.
Is there a way I can unistall it, or at lease stop it from running? Like a registry setting?
Thanks,
Paul...
do a hard reset
The only way to fully uninstall GPRS monitor file is to do a hard reset.
aao588 , I don't think hard-reset will help, seems like he has 'cooked' the GPRS monitor into the rom. After hard-reset the program will be still in the rom, unless he flash it with another rom.
e1design, I don't use this software, not sure about it, you can try look into the \Winodws\Start up folder, delete the .lnk or exe file that start this program.
First remove it from the Today items
Then go to \Windows\Startup and delete the file called GPRS Notify
Finally soft reset

Hi guys
I made a backup of my ameo with sprite before my upgrade to wm6 (with rom 005TMO) and Internet Sharing wasnt working properly, so I made a new backup on wm6 so i can return to wm5. When i returned i thinked the 2 operating systems merged and im having a lot of problems. In the about of the phone it still says wm6. Internet sharing still doesnt work and i have errors on boot and incorrect shortcuts...
Is there a way to restore the sprite backup file like the rom was installed, so that nothing is running and everything can be restored perfectly
Thanks in advance
Even though sprite has a rom upgrade mode. You must follow specific instructions for the backup prior to upgrade and also during the restore....basically the rule of thumb is NEVER, EVER restore after a rom upgrade (even wm5 to wm5 or wm6 to wm6)
If you just need data and not apps in main memory, you can use sprite explorer to copy files from previous backups...but then again, more people have problems with this, then say it works good...
So Never, Never restore a backup from a previous rom version. You should just hard reset and reload the apps. The internet sharing is probably something on the pc side and not a problem on the PDA. I used internet sharing everyday on both wm5 and wm6..
What are you trying to use with internet sharing? Any chance your carrier, may block that? Usually, you just connect and eveything works..Especially if using Vista Ultimate.
Thanks for the reply... actually i paid to allow my pda to share it unlimited 3g connection with my computer so i dont think thats the problem, and im not even sure if its because of the wm6 as i havnt tried internet sharing for quite some time. Basically, im connected the ameo to the pc via usb and after it connects, i open the internet sharing app on the pda and press connect. It seems that the pda because the network adapter and for that connection, i get a DNS ip and default gateway ip through its DHCP but when i open the browser, nothing
As for the hard reset, how do u do that... i have all the cds
thanks
Just tried hard reset, strangely it went back as if i had just installed wm6 - i guess the real factory settings are gone forever, but im going to try internet sharing again, fingers crossed

Try bluetooth. Usb needs to be prepared before you use it. You need to swotch off syncing, before.
Ok, after the hard reset back to factory settings of wm6, Internet sharing works. I guess when i was trying to install Bluetooth DUN (for my tomtom) it messed it up.
Anyway thanks - and btw - Resco explorer TODAY is wicked
every program i use defaults to internet explporer.....is the one setting i can change to get it to use opera.....
stilll noob to the whole PPC thing so any regestry tweak i prob cant do
could i just delete IE???
How many programs, and how much data do you have on the phone? My sprint TP automatically launches Opera for every thing. Did you tweak the phone.
I hate to say this but I would hard reset the phone, and it should come back to the opera default (if you have the stock rom).
This just happened to me and I need a fix!!! I have a Sprint TP and I am running the stock rom. I have done a lot with the phone. After I installed skyfire this started to happen to me. I uninstalled skyfire but the phone still uses IE as an default.
Go to windows folder find opera file and reinstall opera.Ignore errors if you get any.
both files under then windows folders are not for reinstall.....
I found the answer at sprint users. I put a link in look at post #7. When you reinstall opera it will give you a message saying the old version can not be removed just say ok.

I would like to know what is stored on the NT when you register with BN and where it is stored. I have tried several of the rooting procedures and mods. I have bricked three times and registered numerous times. I feel there will be a flag at some point that I am registering over and over.
This information does not seem to be included in the CWM backups. Any help?
Thanks for listening
(yes; I searched but no love) - flame on!
The reason I care is I was given the NT and several books and can't access the books without registering. DRM daemon!
If you are looking for a way to bypass registration on stock, there is a youtube video for that (by albert wertz I believe, but you might want to check me on that). However, there is no way to register later, but one of the devs might know the answer to where that info is stored so you can edit it manually. I think ypur best bet is a custom rom like cm7 or cm9.
Sent from my TARDIS.
Thanks for the info. I know how to skip registration but can't access the books that way.
I want to capture the stored info and apply when I wish.
Check the mentioned videos and you will find a way to register after having skipped.
I believe it was anycut shortcut to obo.
I am 95% that what you're looking for is the data stored in /data/system/accounts.db, which has entries for device and user of type com.bn.authentication device and user respectively as well as for com.google.
My memory is that on the NC, restoring the accounts.db file after skipping OOBE permitted me to access my library via the BN apps without reregistering the device.
And I know that if you make the mistake of issuing an erase and deregister command on the NC followed by a reinstall from a nandroid backup, you wind up with a device that will, a few minutes after connecting to wifi, erase and deregister itself automagically.
I finally realized that what was happening was that I'd told BN I wanted to reset my registration flag via the deregister command, but that I'd then restored an active registration token; the mismatch meant that my NC needed to be wiped.
Later on, I realized that if I skipped OOBE I could use Titanium to do a restore and after reboot I had access to my library, without reregistration.
I think I actually tested simply restoring the database on a freshly imaged (from stock) device at one point and was able to access my stuff.
Thank you very much for that advice. That is exactly what I was looking for.
Using anycut and trial and error you can register if you skipped it. anycut new activity and scroll down to oobe-there are a lot of them the one you want its about ten down. Pick anover try it, rinse repeat until you get to the original out of box screen. Then you can proceed and register.
