Stuck on BL Screen, no sync, can't upgrade. - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

My phone came across some issues. Don't ask how. I have a few issues and heard this is place to go. Here goes.
I tried to turn my phone on.
It vibrated, the green light turns on, but no display.
So I turned it on to the Bootloader screen (it's the only display I have). It reads:
"TITA100 MFG
SPL-2.40.Olipro
CRLD-9"
I connect to the computer, and I hear the chime to confirm its connection.
However, I open Mobile Device Center and it doesn't show that a phone is connected. I go to to Device Manager, and I see that there is a "Microsoft USB Device" connected, which is my phone.
So in all, when I try to flash a new ROM, it tells me there's a connection error. However, it knows my phone is there because the phone's screen changes. HOWEVER, when the flash is operating, it tells me what ROM its flashing to. It does not tell me the image I have though, which leads me to suspect I don't have a ROM at all on my phone.
I'm dead confused as to what to do. Everyone has an actual OS to use and to connect to Mobile Center (activesync). So...help me out if you can?
I don't want my little baby to die.
...come on...breath Mogul...it'll be ok.

You have unlocked your phone and have the 2.40 bootloader installed which is suitable for the 3.35.xx and later based ROM builds. You must also match your chosen ROM with a suitable radio.
Activesync will only make a connection when you are booted into Windows Mobile. For flashing, that connection is only necessary to unlock/lock your phone and change the bootloader.
You are fine, but are not telling us what you are trying to flash to or what information you are following to flash. If you read the sticked threads on the front of the forum and check out and follow the instructions posted in the Titan Wiki for upgrading to the latest GPS/EDVO Rev A ROMs, you should find all the links and information you need to successfully upgrade your phone.

Thank you very much.
I thought I was stuck.
I think I'm going to upgrade to the latest ROM and try to get it running. This leads me to a new question:
Is there any special step I need to take when wanting to Flash using the SD Card? The ROM, let's say 3.35 Alltel. I put it in the card and it says "Loading", then it shows the number "00068002" in red up top, and then the blue words "No Image File!" appears.

You are missing out a few steps in telling us what you have done. Tell us exactly what you are doing and with what type of card.

Alrighty.
I have a 1 Gig card, FAT32 1024.
I'm trying to get the "Alltel 3.35.671.9 ROM".
I read that I am to flash that ROM first, but like I said, the progress bar shows up on my phone when flashing with the .exe program (gray background, progress bar up top), and then it gives me an error message and I have to reset my phone and go through the tedious "recovery" process.
When I try to use the SD Card to install the Alltel image 3.35.671.9, it says Loading, and then No Image!, and it takes be back to the BL screen.
Is that enough?
Thank alot.

As you have apparently have a suitable SDcard, you don't need to bother with the Alltel ROM. You can directly flash a suitable discrete radio ROM (links in the Wiki to 3.37.20 & 3.39.10). Less hassle that way and the best method for future radio changes without affecting your data or OS ROM. With the CDMA Radio upgraded you can then repeat with the SDCard routine to flash to one of the later third party ROM or kitchen build of your choice. After that, all should be fine to boot into the new OS.
Remember that the ROM file copied to the root of the SDcard must be renamed TITAIMG.nbh.

Damn it all.
I put the card in with the Radio in it, named "TITAIMG.nbh", and it only reads "loading" then "No image file!"
I tried both Radios, and my card is fine.
Still no luck.
Geez...what a disappointment. Thanks for your help though. I feel safer knowing there's hope for the thing.

Did you format the card into FAT32 from your PC?
Oh well, I guess again resort to using the latest Alltell or Sprint ROM via the USB to upgrade your radio. Rather than using their installation routine you can again extract the ROM image but now manually initiate the ROM Update Utility as described in the Wiki.

Thanks again for the tips and info.
Sadly, flashing by SD always gives me a "No Image File!" message, and flashing by USB always gived me a 262 Update Error message, no matter how many times/ports/resets I do.
I guess I'm stuck then.

HardSPL won't succeed

Hi All,
I'm new to the PDA-world and the Hermes. I'm trying to Hard SPL my Hermes, but it fails everytime.
When I run 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7, it kills activesync and my connection is lost and I get always the message "error 260, Update error".
I have the latest framework edition and tried it on 3 pc's (1 Vista, 2 XP)...
What am I doing wrong?
Hope somebody can help me....
Kind Regards,
Micha
1). dont connect to active sync. open active sync and untick "allow usb connections".
2). put hermes into bootloader and connect to usb.
3). run ruu_wrapper.exe
should update to hard spl....
dont forget to tick "allow usb connections" again or you wnot be able to sync..
error 260 is an open port error.
if you wish to flash new os would advise to use sd card method. its safer than using the computer. just make sure you have greater than 50% battery power. happy flashing
Thnx, will give it a try.
First I have to flash HardSPL before I can flash a new OS, don't I?
yep, sorry, should have said run the ruu_wrapper for hard spl. My bad...
im having the same problem. I also tried the way ultramag recommended but i also received the same ending. After time i try i get the Error 260 Update error. Im running SPL 2.04 and the HTC WM6 rom from the HTC website. Does any one know what the problem is?

NOOOOO, that won't work, you need the SSPL to deploy to the phone, if you're running stock HTC bootloader this won't work at all, otherwise we'd have no need for Hard-SPL
hey olipro, then how would i fix this. Im running the stock rom from the HTC website with no hacks. Im trying to load PDA Corners V9 rom. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks!
Take a peek at the guide i wrote about updating the hardspl. Theres some explanation about why we need to use SSPL and the procedures.
http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/hardspl
thats the guide i used. it still gives me the error. I even unchecked "allow connections" cause i read somewhere that that would help.
i did this two days ago on my phone, im running windows vista on my home laptop and got any number of errors and problems trying to do it via sync with the phone (even after reading the vista troubleshooter, with the drivers etc)
What i ended up using was the memory card upgrade, dump the file onto the memory card and go into bootloader with the card installed.
worked fine doing that way, maybe less risky as there is no chance of the usb cable coming out.
just make sure you have a good battery charge on the phone.

I got into this position trying to upgrade WM5 to WM6 from HTC site.
Process got to 20% and just stayed there.
I reconnected usb cable and got a vendor id error
Then I get the Error [260]: CONNECTION
I have read a lot of posts and have tried the sd method (although i am not 100% clear) and all i get is the screen with four colors, red, green blue and white.
I believe this is the bootloader? I have downloaded RUU_signed.nbh, renamed it to hermimg.nbh, installed on root of my SD card and held OK, soft reset and power button:
My display reads:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
This is where my journey ends.
All post indicate that the device can be reflashed and have the OS reinstalled. I can't get there from here.
Can anyone please help?

How big is your SD card? Flashing only works with cards <2GB. Also, sometimes certain cards just don't work for flashing, and just swapping to a different card fixes the problem.
I assume you searched the wiki, and found the relevant pages on the Hermes (including SD Card Flashing and other things about flashing/upgrading) there?
Still Lost
My SD is 2GB and I have tried many times but i just keep getting the 4 color screen. rt now when i boot from the SD my screen goes white and displays "Loading..." and then returns to bootloader screen. When i attempt to flash the rom via PC to WM5 or WM6 i get the Error 260, i also get a vendor ID error sometimes.
How can i find the key 8525 thread that i am told has the answer to my delima? I keep picking up bits and pieces but am missing some key steps and tips.

That sounds like the SD card is formatted incorrectly. Make sure it's formatted using fat32, nothing else will work.
Still not there from here
Thanks for your help. Before I formatted the SD FAT32, nothing would happen doing the bootloader reset. OK/ON/reset button.
After format and only the hermimg.nbh file renamed as indicated, I then get what looks like the loading process but back to the bootloader screen.
Q1: This is an AT&T 8525, it was perfectly fine before failure from WM5 to WM6 (process froze at 20%), what is the RUU file that I need to put on SD??
Q2: After "Loading ..." I try the WM5 PC upgrade of ROM via USB cable, I get the load process to appear to work but it gets to 1% and the phone reboots and the PC reports error [294]: Invalid vendor ID. If I do this again I will get the Error [260]. Ive repeated the process several times.
Is this the normal course to take or should the "SD Method" (with the WM5 or WM6 RUU.. file) complete the process to a working OS?
Q3: Is my situation hopeless? ATT will take my out of warrantee 8525 and reflash for $129. Reading the threads it seems that like me this can be done by me, this is my desire.
Q4: I still am confused by some basic terms and assumed steps. I dont understand "Hard SPL" or OLI's IPLs/SPLs and when and when to use them.
The newbe guide has been off line. I will look again. Is there a single place to read about "radio PDAs and the 8525 and understand the software build and custom options?
Sy for the long post. But still want to fix if possible or I will be force to mail in for ATT repair.
Thank you all.

Oh boy, you haven't installed HardSPL? You are walking a bit of a line there mate...
HardSPL is a custom boot loader that makes bricking your phone when flashing much harder to do, and helps large amounts in the recovery process if you phone does brick.
Does the phone boot at this point? If so, do not try flashing the phone again. Go get a copy of HardSPL and install it, then try flashing from the SD.
I still wonder why people didn't read before bricking...
Anyway, you should start reading now and wiki is your friend. Your SPL is 2.03, so look at the bottom of the page (there is only one solution till now, so good luck with that):
Code:
1. Boot OS using KITL+PB
2. Do no disconnect your HERMES till the end of the step 6
3. Download SSPL on HERMES by wifi from ie explorer
4. Launch SSPL then flash Hard-SPL from your computer
5. Put your hermes in bootloader mode
6. Flash any radio in NBH format from your computer

Thanks for coming to my aide. I believe that I have Hard SPL'd my device. I downloaded Olipro's Hard SPL v7. extracted the RUU_ file and renamed to hermimg.nbh.
I then put it on an SD card and held the keys and reset. The device displayed a white screen and "Loading..." appeared. Afterward the 8525 returned to the stipped boat loader screen and that is where I am now.
Some of the help i receive and read on wiki threads has me confused with what to do next and how "exactly" to do it.
It does seem that I am not alone and people have fixed their phones and the process to do this is on the forum. I'm just still missing something.
Help me further if u can.
Thank you.

FYI: bad form to PM someone and post the same thing here. Keep it in the thread so others can be helped as well.
As I replied in the PM, if I'm understanding your post correctly, the phone boots to the tri-colour screen?
What text is showing on the screen? This will tell if HardSPL is on the phone or not.

There is small chance (read my previous post) to unbrick device with SPL2.03 so better try to get this back from where you take it.
And please, change topic, because this brick isn't HardSPL fault at all.

Questions on upgrading OEM Verizon XV6800 to DCD 3.1.6

Hello,
I hear nothing but great things about custom ROMS, especially DCD and would like to try one. I have spent the last few weeks reading all the threads located here on XDA-Developers and on PPCGeeks regarding upgrading an OEM Verizon XV6800 to a custom ROM.
Below are the instructions I have come up with. I would appreciate it if this wonderful community could provide any suggestions or corrections to my steps. Based on your responses I will create a finalized guide for other users to follow.
I have received very mixed results regarding the overall procedure. Some say you must first flash the Sprint ROM and then flash DCD (To upgrade the radio). Others say you can just flash radio 3.39 and then flash DCD 3.1.6. My below steps are going on the assumption you can just flash the radio 3.39 and then flash DCD 3.1.6.
Phone has
Software Version: 2.09.605.8 (I believe this is the ROM version)
Firmware Version: 1.30.60 (I believe this is the radio version)
I have doccumented my
NAM, SCM, ESN (Hex & Decimal) and MSID.
1. Backup everything
2. Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable and ensure it can establish an active sync connection.
3. While the phone is connected to the computer and running Windows Mobile 6.0 run titan_SPL_2.40-olipro.exe to unlock the phone.
4. Reboot the phone and put it in to bootloader mode (Hold down Power button, camera button and press the soft reset button with the stylus until the multi color bootloader screen appears).
5. While in bootloader mode flash the radio to 3.39
6. While in bootloader mode flash the DCD 3.1.6 ROM
7. After reboot install the Verizon carrier cab. Call verizon and let them know you have hard reset your phone so it can be re-authorized with their network.
everything looks good, what i would do though is flash the 3.39 sprint rom to get the radio. and you may not have to call verizon i just got a replacement phone and flashed up did the *22899 and everything worked with out having to call and get a a key.

another suggestion i've seen somewhere else is to turn the phone into flight mode prior to flashing... not sure if it works but would be interested to know
also: DO NOT FORGET to soft reset just beforethe customizations run (when you are finished flashing and the phone reboots itself for the first time..)... you do NOT want the sprint customizations to run, on your Verizon device.

if it's your first time you won't know when the sprint customizations are running. so just don't hit the screen or anything until AFTER you flash a DCD rom

I was in the exact same spot just a few weeks ago, flashing my XV6800 for the first time. I researched and prepared like you have and I think you're ready to pull the trigger.
My only advice is to use the SD method to flash the radio and OS ROMs. I wasn't able o connect via USB after upgrading the radio and the microSD method was incredibly easy and far faster than USB seemed.
Dialing *228 was all I needed after the process was complete, no new A-Key needed or manual entry of provisioning data.
Just remember, when in the process of flashing your phone, keep calm & carry on.
VX6800 upgrade procedures please
I too have read all the post on this and PPCGEEKS and have issues within myself. I start out with a high confidence level and after you get through a page or two of; yes, but do this instead ..... you are left with nothing but total confusion and contradictions. My confidence level is then well down the ladder.
I (we) would all like to hear from a VERIZON VX6800 owner (no sprinters please, sorry) who has actually done this with step by step instructions. Please don't assume we know anything, many like myself are knowledgeable in technical fields but not with PPC's.
This is my most serious concern. I ONLY have access to machines running Vista. I have heard that something, don't know what, will stop at 11% some people say not. What might stop and why? Ive also been told that there are new drivers for 'mobile device center' that fix this problem but no driver dates or version No's are posted anywhere. Any advice here would be helpfully also.
I know several folks who are also waiting for me (the guinea pig) to do this and they will follow.
Thanks for the time all have put into this effort.
All of the instructions and options for flashing are up-to-date in the Wiki.
I own and operate an xv6800, I used the methods listed in every sticky to flash my first time, never had a problem.
I have always used DCD's ROMS and used whatever he had posted in whatever thread for every ROM/kitchen. The man is thorough in putting the necessities in his threads.
Now I just flash whenever, no problems. I run 32 bit vista and xp on my machines and neither gives a headache.
The wiki is your guide to a successful upgrade. Study it.
Nonetheless, for those wanting VZW-specific instructions, here's how I upgraded my XV6800 to radio 3.39.10 and dcd's 3.1.2 a couple weeks ago.
I take no responsibility for anything you do to your device.
Code:
I. Upgrade bootloader
A. Establish an ActiveSync connection via USB
B. Execute Hard-SPL-MFG.exe to upgrade the bootloader to 2.40
[url]ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/ImCoKeMaN/roms/Hard-SPL-MFG.exe[/url]
Follow the steps in the command window closely - they are very clear
II. Format a microSD card for installing radio and OS ROMs
A. Using a card reader attached to your computer, format a microSD card into FAT32 with an allocation unit/cluster size of 1024
1. Open a command prompt and type
format ?: /FS:FAT32 /A:1024
where ? is the drive letter assigned to the microSD
III. Use microSD to install Radio ROM
A. Download radio 3.39.10
[url]http://rapidshare.com/files/113794877/radio339.rar[/url]
B. Un-rar
C. Copy RUU_signed.nbh to your microSD card
D. Rename RUU_signed.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
E. Insert microSD card into phone
F. Force into bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET
G. Bootloader will load and begin loading the ROM on the microSD
F. When radio upgrade is complete, reset phone and force into bootloader
IV. Use microSD to install OS ROM
A. Download the OS ROM (e.g. dcd_titan_3.1.2)
B. OS ROM will be .exe file. Use WinRAR to extract files, one of which will have an .nbh extension
C. Copy *.nbh (e.g. dcd_titan_3.1.2.nbh) to your microSD card
D. Rename *.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
E. Insert microSD card into phone
F. If not in bootloader, force into bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET
G. Bootloader will load and begin loading the ROM on the microSD
F. When OS upgrade is complete reset phone, eject the card, reset the phone
You will more than likely need your USB-headphone dongle/adapter that came with the phone.
After I upgraded my phone, resetting the phone caused the bootloader to appear instead of
loading the OS. For whatever reason, with the 11-pin USB dongle this doesn't happen
and the OS ROM boots without a problem.
V. Follow on screen instructions and allow customizations to run. Phone will reset when complete.
VI. Install Verizon carrier cab, reset when complete.
[url]http://www.lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/titan/carriers/dcd%20Titan%20Carrier%20-%20Verizon.cab[/url]
VI. Dial *228, reset when complete
VII. From your phone, browse to [url]http://ota.wsync.com/[/url] to download, install the XV6800 Over The Air sync client
After I upgraded the radio I wasn't able to load the stock OS and was unable to establish an ActiveSync connection via USB, thus was unable to use the RUU method. Using a card reader and microSD method to flash the new OS ROM saved my ass. I won't flash any other way now.

Can you explain this more? Are you saying everytime i reboot my phone i will need the USB/Headphone adapter plugged in? Or just the first boot?
Also, I dont have a SD reader. Can i just copy the files to my SD card with the SD in the phone and connected via USB?
Thanks,

For me, only about 1 in 3 reboots do NOT require the USB dongle. I have no idea why that is, I think it's an issue with the bootloader, but there are some threads on this board with more technical info. (I work in IT and carry a whole mess of cables in my bag, so it wasn't a huge concern of mine to tote the USB-headphone adapter around.)

Nope. You can read/write to the card but I don't think you can change the file system of the card while it's in the phone. Card readers are cheap, less than $20, and very handy to have.

Also, when getting the required info before i start i dont see a key for security when i do a ##778. Is this ok/normal for verizon?
Thanks again!

After the entire process was complete you are able to sync with the PC? Just not prior to doing the ROM update? Syncing is essential to me for backups etc.
Thanks for all the advice guys!!
wow, so i just remember i had a SD reader on my linux server. I went down and loaded up my VM of XP. Started to format my SD card and it blue screened and now I cant get my SD card to reconize in my computer or phone. I guess that a worthless piece of plastic now.. Ill try the USB method.

That was the same for me when I checked my EPST before upgrading. That's a good thing: you don't have an A-Key (security) now so you won't need one after flashing.

Correct. However, now when I sync I have to use the USB/Headphone dongle. I can also sync via Bluetooth.
I just want to say thank you to everyone. I was able to get DCD 3.1.6 running by flashing the Sprint ROM and then flashing DCD 3.1.6. The only problem I'm having is getting Radio 3.39 to load. It will get to 8% and then the phone reboots.
If anyone is near newport news VA and wouldnt mind helping me out with upgrading my 6800 let me know. Ill provide the beer

If you paid someone to flash it, take it back! Did they give you back a non working phone? You'd think they would have tested it???
It sounds like you have a rom / Radio incompatibility problem. Or no radio at all. You say that you put the radio nbh on the card and put it into bootloader mode, but did you actually flash the radio? Did it come up with the grey screen and blue progress bar showing it was actually flashing the Radio rom?
Mogul Dead
No my phone did not do any of that stuff. And no I do not think that I flashed the radio I don't know how. I put the nbh file on the card insert it put it in the tri color screen and nothing happens. Man I am screwed. The kid at the store is saying that I did something & I did not. I have been reading alot cause I do not know anything about this flashing stuff and it does seem like there might be a radio/rom compatability thing going on cause the phone says no radio. I followed some forum steps to no avail.
dude if you get the tri color boot loader screen you did not kill your phone, all you need to do is flash your radio, witch is completely seprate from flashing your OS. just read the wiki and relax
The phone is telling you what is wrong "No Radio" you should be able to flash a radio via your sd card then flash a rom and all should be well. You just need to make sure the radio is compatable to the ROM. What is your ROM Version that shows on your boot screen. Also what bootloader is installed (tricolor screen)
I realize English isn't your primary language, but based on how you phrased your last comment, it sounds like you are inserting the SD card after the tri color screen.
The card needs to be in the phone before you press the 3 buttons for the boot loader screen, then it should see it.
BTC
Mogul Dead
Ok great sounds like from the replies that my mogul is not dead. Ok thanks guys. Also when I put the phone in the bootloader modethe tro color screen the card is already inserted, and the bootloader is SPL-2.40.Olipro. I do not know what ROM was put on the phone when it came from the store. So yeah I just might have to keep tyring to combine the right radio for the right rom thats on the phone.
find radio 3.42.50 and flash it via your sd card
then find the rom you want .....example.... DCD 3.2.6 and flash it via your sd card
then install dcd's carrier cab for you carrier and you should be up and running
Mogul Dead
How do I flash DCD's ROM to the sd card I never did this.
Do you have a ROM ready to flash? If so just goto the wiki link for the Titan's and do some reading. Everything you'll ever need to know about flashing is in there...

Focus on the radio first, once you get it flashed, then you can worry about flashing the rom.
For the rom (not radio) it's much easier, from the tri-color screen, plug in your USB cable and run the .exe file and it will flash.
However, get the radio updated first.
Try the 3.42.50 radio, I personally use 3.42.40 but they are very close and both support the same roms.
BTC
Freaking out as well
I'm stuck at the tri-color screen after updating the bootloader to 2.40.Olipro , I thought I could update the bootloader and still go into my Windows 6.1 install (and update the rest later).
I thought I totally screwed up my phone until I read this thread so hopefully there is still hope for this.
I do not have an SD card so I'm trying to do it the USB method by downloading the "ROM Update Utility" and placing the TITAIMG.NBH file into the RUU directory. It seems to work but stops at about 8% and the phone goes black then the PDA Phone ROM Update Utility pops up a:
ERROR [328]: INVALID COMMAND
This update utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.
As you can imagine I'm absolutely panicked right now and will appreciate ANY help!
well save yourself some grief and buy a 2 gig microSD card. Then all you have to do is put the radio ROM on it, go into bootloader mode and let it flash. That is the safest and easiest way to do it. Also less, read nill, chance of bricking your phone.
Ok I'm heading out the door to Best Buy right now...
So once I get the radio installed, I then install DCD using the SD card method? Then the carrier cab?
I've already updated the bootloader to 2.40 using the USB method, will mixing these two cause any issues?
Now that I'm totally stuck at the bootloader, are there any precautions I should take before continuing?!?
Thanks so much for the help, I can't wait to get this going and maybe help out people like myself in the future
I got a 2gb card, formatted it to FAT32, downloaded 3.42.50 radio, renamed it and placed it into the root directory of the card.
I then put it into the phone, then did a POWER+CAMERA+RESET. It comes back to the bootloader screen doing nothing.
I've been reading around and it looks like I'm doing everything correct???? It just sits there and at the bottom it says "Serial"
EDIT: Oh you have to HOLD that combination for a couple seconds. Got it, I'll keep going on the process....
Here's what I just recently posted in another thread for someone wanting step by step instructions on how to flash the phone. He said he followed it and it worked so hopefully it helps you out.
1. Download everything you will need.
a) nueSPL 2.47 from http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/pag...HTC-Titan.aspx
b) Radio 3.42.50 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415364
c) The ROM from http://www.scottcrosler.com/
2. Back up your SD card and then format your SD card into FAT32 with less than 4kb cluster size. Open My Computer, right click on your SD card, select format and adjust the settings accordingly.
3. Run nueSPL 2.47 on your phone with your SD card in. It will reformat your SD card again and put the bootloader on it. When you reset your phone it will install the bootloader. Just follow the instructions.
4. Copy the nbh file from the radio rom onto your SD card and rename it to TITAIMG.nbh. Put it in your phone and put the phone into bootloader mode by pressing CAMERA, POWER, and RESET (the recessed button on the bottom of the phone) at the same time. When it starts up it should come up with a grey screen telling you to press POWER to continue flashing. Do this and wait for it to complete. When it is complete delete the nbh file from your card using your computer.
5. Put the phone into bootloader mode again using the same method as before. Connect your phone via USB to your computer and run the ROM flashing exe to flash the rom. Just follow the instructions that come up. It's easy. When that is done your phone has the ROM installed. If the USB method does not work for you, look for the largest .nbh file and copy it to your SD card, rename the .nbh file to TITAIMG.nbh again, and reset into bootloader again. You should get the same screen as you did when you flashed the radio. When it's complete the ROM is installed.
6. Run the CAB file from My Documents to extract all the other cabs. After that is complete look for the cab for your carrier and install that. Soft reset.
7. Your phone should work now.
I think that's it. Anyone else feel free to correct anything I probably have wrong... I just wrote that from memory. It's normally easy to do and you just follow the on screen prompts so I might've made some mistakes. I always just flash via SD now because it's so easy and I don't require a PC for anything.

The bold text is a step I left out for the other person but he figured it out.
Edit: Oh yeah, skip the part where you install the bootloader (step 3) since you're already running an unlocked bootloader and don't have a working OS on the phone to install 2.47. Once you have a working OS you can go ahead and update from 2.40 to 2.47 if you want a slight improvement in performance. It will not require you to reflash everything else again (or at least didn't for me).
Yes! 100% working. Didn't even have to call Verizon to reactive it, everything was ready to go as soon as I got the new rom.
Thanks for the help!

Did you install the carrier cab?
Also see in EPST. If you use EVDO, may be login and pass are erased after flash. I had same problem with official Sprint ROM.
And what kind of GPS you are talking about? aGPS?

[Q] Unable to flash any ROM!

Hello,
I'm about six hours into the process of trying to revive a nonfunctional HD2 that I purchased. I'm going batty!
Here is my status:
1) have installed SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE (0x05, 0x40) Cotulla HSPL
2) Have downloaded a few different roms (Chucky, TMO official, Energy) but they either get stuck at 0% or 9% (the highest it's gotten)
I'm getting pretty good at pulling the battery - it's like a new skill I never hoped to have!
I'm getting pretty frustrated because I've read about a hundred different posts on this site and I see that people are getting around this, but I'm starting to wonder if my phone has an issue that I can't resolve?
The phone doesn't boot up at all - it just says "Upgrade ROM code error, Please try again". Prior to my goofing with it, it just got stuck at the "Stick Together" screen. (Unwittingly bought it that way)
If I use the HSPL3_PKG to install/remove HSPL, it only works (connects to the phone) about one out of ten times, and out of the ~ten times I have gotten it to work, it only completed twice with a "We Hacked It" screen. The rest of the time it errors out just as I think it's getting the job done.
If I boot to the bootloader screen, I can put the USB cable in and see it change from Serial to USB (I've tried the thick and thin cables as some have suggested and haven't noticd a difference yet)
Then I kick of a rom update using the update utility that comes packed with it, and either the update process stops at 0% or it has made it all the way to 9%.
I'm in a position to get a replacement from TMO via the person who bought it (two for one, wife didn't like it, I bought it off of him) but I would rather not.
Any suggestions?

Once you have Hard-SPL on the device you don't need to worry about that anymore. Flashing Roms and radios will not overwrite it, that's what makes it "Hard". To make sure it's on there go into bootloader and it should show 2.08.hspl.
As for the radio, for TMOUS, just make sure it's a x.xx.50.xx radio (not a .51) and you'll be fine. If you have radio 2.10.50.xx you shouldn't have to change it.
So now I would try downloading one of the stock shipped Tmo ROMs (2.13 or 2.14). Then remove Sim and SD and go into bootloader, connect USB to PC and make sure it says USB on the device (not serial) and run the ROM Update Utility (RUU.exe). See if that works.
i also got this problem ,will try ur method n c
after hspl ,cant flash finish radio 2.14 it says ERROR (290) INVALID COMMAND.

You need HSPL..
HSPL done ,i tried a lot of files only Miri & Dinik n Duttys Leo Sense file can b flash successfully ,it went into menu once but now hang at htc startup again,,is this hardware problem?
i had the same problem last week. Drove me nuts.
i found there are more than one version of HPSL 3.
you have to download the latest one. for more info,
read my posts at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789506&page=18
So you need HardSPL3 (the version is DarkForces Team HardSPL3 by bepe and Cotulla 21.06.2010)
If it still doesnt work, take a photo and post your screen
Still no go...
I have installed SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE (0x05, 0x40) Cotulla HSPL, the latest version I could find.
I just tried to flash RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_3.14.531.0_Radio_15.42.50.09U_2.14.50.04_LEO_1.5_Ship and it consistently flakes out at 8%.
I charged the phone all night, booted to the tricolor screen, kicked off the update as an administrator in Win7, the phone got to 8% and then the update flaked out on the PC - "The ROM update encountered communication errors during the update process" (Error [276])
I genuinely think that this phone is bunk - I'm just going to have the fellow I bought it from call in for a warranty replacement.
Thanks for your help, everyone...
SD card flash...
Hi,
I could not see it anywhere in this thread, and also I'm not certain if it is possible on a HD2. But on my xperia I'm usualy flashing from a SD card, copy the image over rename it as KOVSIMG.NBH (guess it would be something like LEOROM.NBH).
Than by pressing (and holding) volume down + power button while the device is off going to the boatloader screen which detects the card (must be inserted and flash from it IF there is the correct file loaded on the card.
Dude,
Did you actually download the HardSPL3 version from DarkForces Team?
If not, dont second guess anything. And if it works, you'll get your phone back.
The file name to download is "HSPL3_PKG.exe". Its by bepe and Cotulla 21.06.2010
If you downloaded the right version. it will support ALL LEO types, and all the SPL versions below:
SPL 1.42.0000
SPL 1.62.0000
SPL 1.66.0000
SPL 2.07.0000
SPL 2.08.0000
SPL 2.10.0000
you just select which SPL version to install in the Choose SPL screen. This version also disables the CID Check.
Dont knock it before you try it ..
+1

Yes you are correct you can flash via SD card. You need a 4GB or lower SD card. This is not to say other higher GB SD card will not work, it is just that it has been stated many times the higher SD cards sometimes work to flash a ROM and sometimes don't. The card needs to be formatted with Fat 32. You have to find the RUU_(wharever).nbh and rename it to leoimg.nbh ( you almost got it righ tsnoffy lol) and copy it to your SD card. insert SD card into phone and hold the volume down botton down anx tap the power button keep holding the volume down button down until you see bootloader come up and say searching then let go of the volume down button. The ROM will flash.

[q] help please! By flashing hspl

Hy!
I did a stupid thing, with the following. I copyed an LEOIMG.nbh file to my formatted sd card, so I get an SPL-1.42.0000, but I can't flash any HSPL to my device, because the HSPL setup writes out USB connection error. Neighter can I flash for example the official 1.66 rom, the installation stops after 1%, and writes INVALID VENDER ID. What can I do?
Very siple but you need lots of time for it. The rom you flashe has spl 3.03 on it and so it doesn't allow you to flash any other spl on it. What you can do is you have to search for old stock roms in the native language of your phone. As long as the phone keeps giving you error when trying to flash a stockrom with you sd card, it means you have not yet gotten the right stockrom for you phone so you have to try with different old stockroms till you get the right one.
After that. you'll be able to flash whatever you like. Hope it helps.
But remember, you need time and patience.

You can also download HSPL 4 and use it to downgrade your SPL. To do this manualy put your HD2 into bootloader by holding the volume down button and pressing the power(end) butom momentarily. Once in bootloader connect your HD2 to your computer via USB cable wait until you see USB in the white bar of thd bootloader and run the HSPL 4 on your computer. It will ask you which SPL or HSPL you wish go flash select the proper SPL version to flash to your HD2 and you should be good to go. Hint the SPL version will have zeros at the end of them and the HSPL version will not. Example SPL 2.08.0000 HSPL 2.08. Hope this helps.

Hi. I have the same pronblem. I have a UK HD2 that was originally on Tmobile. I flashed 2.08HSPL using HSPL4 & upgraded the ROM to the standard WWE_3.14. Yes on both counts... I've even tried a complete 'long' reformat of the SD card first using the Panasonic SD Formatter, before putting the leoimg.nbh at the root.
I'm guessing that my stupid mistake is downgrading to SPL2.08.0000 whilst having a generic version of the 3.14 ROM installed. I guess I should have downgraded the ROM to an original Tmobile one first...
Could i ask what operating system you guys are using cos this problem could have less to do with the phone than it has to do with the operating system on the pc. I was trying to flash some roms on some old devices using Windows 7 but this didn't seem to work but it magically worked when i used Windows xp. I hope this works.
About the wrong Vendor problem, this just means the rom flashed is not recognized by the phone as the official one, i also had that problem and after flashing a official rom in the language of my phone, the problem was solved. I used the 1.66 rom so that i could flash hspl or else it might be impossible to do so.
Or as someone suggested you might try the hspl4 (never knew that existed) but try using Windows xp and if the problem persists try reinstalling your operating system (on your pc). I know it a lot of work but its just to rule out that the problem is from the pc.
Another thing i want to make sure of is if the phone is working normally with the rom on it or is there no rom at all?

Hi. Thanks for the input. The problem is getting even more frustrating! I've tried buying a new 4GB micro SD card (both are class 4). I have tried both TMO_UK_1.72 & TMO_UK_1.43. Both ROMs were downloaded from HTC using the correct phone's serial, so they should be the correct ones.
With the original SD card I can't get passed the bootloader screen & it just stays in 'serial' mode. With the new SD card it moves on to 'loading...', but then just hangs. I haven't yet seen the word 'searching' as described in the [TUT] Flash your ROM / Radio via microSD.
To clarify, the phone boots fine with the installed 3.14 ROM, but I can't get away from SPL 2.08.0000 or flash any other ROM.

Ok here is a couple of options for you. One go to www.t-mobile.com if you have a T-Mobile HD2 and type HTC HD2 upgrade in the search box on the home screen of the website and you will find the official T-Mobile 3.14 ROM. You will have to enter your IMEI number under your battery to download it. Download this ROM and then follow the steps to flash it via SD card, hint you will have to rename the original .exe file to .zip to gain access to the .nbh file. Also you can download and run HSPL 4 on your HD2 and select SPL 3.03.0000 but the official ROM will change it to SPL 3.10.0000 if you flash via SD card
Its a common problem i think if you are trying to flash a rom via sd card with a sd card higher than class two. Many here have encountered such problems.
According to your description, it will seem that it is as i suspected, the pc doesn't seem to recognize the phone and this could mean you have a defect usb cable or the useport itself is not funtioning properly. Try holding the phone in your hand with the usb in and support the usb with your hand to make sure the usb is indeed in the phone and see what happens. My usb cable is a little bit loose so when i want to flash anything, i use my hand to support it or i place my phone on a smoot surface and make sure the usb cable is in it.

A long story short... after playing around with SD Android & a few other utilities I wanted to make a clean start, so my plan was to use HSPL4 to remove the HSPL before then re-installing it & reflashing the ROM. Unfortunately I now seem to be stuck in SPL2.08.0000. HSPL4 just gives the same error:
CRITICAL ERROR
Flow:00000001
Error code: 00000002
Description: USB Connect failed!
I have also tried flashing a stock ROM via SD (renamed leoimg.nbh), but I can't get passed the bootloader displaying 'serial'.
Any ideas?

Ok do to some recent personal experience and some other members problem of late. I suggest both of you do this go to www.windowsmobile.com/getstarted and download the most recent version of WMDC wich has updated drivers in it that seems to solve somd problems with flashing via USB especially if you are using a 64 bit system. Just so both of you know unless your HD2 shows up as "HTC USB Sync" in the device manager while connected via USB while in bootlaoder you do not have the correct drivers installed and any flash will fail.
T-Macgnolia & Abdul9: Thanks for that, however mine is a UK Tmobile HD2 & the .com site is only for US ones (it doesn't recognise UK IMEI's). If I go via the UK site it just links me to the HTC update site for the RUU_Leo_S_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship (& also the 1.72 & 1.43 versions. I have tried all of these via both SD card & via USB. I have also tried HSPL4, HSPL3 & HSPL2. All options have failed. I have tried from Win XP Pro & Win 7 Ultimate (both 32bit) with two different USB leads. I have also tried a 3rd SD card (which ends up stalling at the 'loading' screen. The phone flashed fine prior to removing 2.08HSPL with HSPL4.
I think that the problem is not the SD card or the USB lead, but is the problem that I've now got a Tmobile (UK) phone with spl 2.08 & a WWE_3.14 ROM installed - this should obviously not normally be possible. I can't flash back to HSPL & I can't downgrade to any other ROM.
Does anyone have any idea how I can 'fool' the phone into letting me change the ROM?
I've been reading about Task29, but it says don't do this unless you have HSPL (which I can't get!). I don't want to brick the phone (because it still runs!), but I want HSPL back otherwise I can't reinstall Android on SD.
Furthermore, I don't think this is a USB driver issue, as it flashed fine before & it's occurring across different PC's & operating systems.
It's an incompatibility between a branded Tmobile with SPL & a WWE HTC ROM... I just need to get out of the loop I'm stuck in!
Hey Chameleon I know you don't think it is a problem with the drivers cause it was flashing fine before. But what I do not think you have taken into account is that you came from a older ROM and you had the right drivers to work with that ROM or the update for that ROM. But you now have a 3.14 ROM and this is a newer ROM that probably requires different drivers. I mean Microsoft did not create a new WMDC with updated drivers if it was not needed for the 3.14 ROMs as they are the most recent official ROM versions. Microsoft is the one that comes out with the new ROM versions too, the carriers just add their bloatware to them. Do you see my train of thought here? Also make sure you are usinv SD card that is 500MBPS to 8GB that is formated with Fat 32.

WOW! I've got the problem sorted! This can't be a coincidence... I haven't done anything different to my PC, but I got an 'unlock' code through for my phone this morning (£5.99 on Ebay) & it worked fine. I though "why not" & tried HSPL4 again. With no other changes it worked absolutely fine this time & I now have 2.08HSPL installed.
Presumably by unlocking my my phone from Tmobile it has also removed the 'you're using the incorrect ROM' problem.
Thanks for everyones input on this. I maintain that XDA-Developers is one of the best Forums around (not just within the mobile phone arena).
