Questions on upgrading OEM Verizon XV6800 to DCD 3.1.6 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Hello,
I hear nothing but great things about custom ROMS, especially DCD and would like to try one. I have spent the last few weeks reading all the threads located here on XDA-Developers and on PPCGeeks regarding upgrading an OEM Verizon XV6800 to a custom ROM.
Below are the instructions I have come up with. I would appreciate it if this wonderful community could provide any suggestions or corrections to my steps. Based on your responses I will create a finalized guide for other users to follow.
I have received very mixed results regarding the overall procedure. Some say you must first flash the Sprint ROM and then flash DCD (To upgrade the radio). Others say you can just flash radio 3.39 and then flash DCD 3.1.6. My below steps are going on the assumption you can just flash the radio 3.39 and then flash DCD 3.1.6.
Phone has
Software Version: 2.09.605.8 (I believe this is the ROM version)
Firmware Version: 1.30.60 (I believe this is the radio version)
I have doccumented my
NAM, SCM, ESN (Hex & Decimal) and MSID.
1. Backup everything
2. Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable and ensure it can establish an active sync connection.
3. While the phone is connected to the computer and running Windows Mobile 6.0 run titan_SPL_2.40-olipro.exe to unlock the phone.
4. Reboot the phone and put it in to bootloader mode (Hold down Power button, camera button and press the soft reset button with the stylus until the multi color bootloader screen appears).
5. While in bootloader mode flash the radio to 3.39
6. While in bootloader mode flash the DCD 3.1.6 ROM
7. After reboot install the Verizon carrier cab. Call verizon and let them know you have hard reset your phone so it can be re-authorized with their network.

everything looks good, what i would do though is flash the 3.39 sprint rom to get the radio. and you may not have to call verizon i just got a replacement phone and flashed up did the *22899 and everything worked with out having to call and get a a key.

another suggestion i've seen somewhere else is to turn the phone into flight mode prior to flashing... not sure if it works but would be interested to know

also: DO NOT FORGET to soft reset just beforethe customizations run (when you are finished flashing and the phone reboots itself for the first time..)... you do NOT want the sprint customizations to run, on your Verizon device.

if it's your first time you won't know when the sprint customizations are running. so just don't hit the screen or anything until AFTER you flash a DCD rom

I was in the exact same spot just a few weeks ago, flashing my XV6800 for the first time. I researched and prepared like you have and I think you're ready to pull the trigger.
My only advice is to use the SD method to flash the radio and OS ROMs. I wasn't able o connect via USB after upgrading the radio and the microSD method was incredibly easy and far faster than USB seemed.
Dialing *228 was all I needed after the process was complete, no new A-Key needed or manual entry of provisioning data.
Just remember, when in the process of flashing your phone, keep calm & carry on.

VX6800 upgrade procedures please
I too have read all the post on this and PPCGEEKS and have issues within myself. I start out with a high confidence level and after you get through a page or two of; yes, but do this instead ..... you are left with nothing but total confusion and contradictions. My confidence level is then well down the ladder.
I (we) would all like to hear from a VERIZON VX6800 owner (no sprinters please, sorry) who has actually done this with step by step instructions. Please don't assume we know anything, many like myself are knowledgeable in technical fields but not with PPC's.
This is my most serious concern. I ONLY have access to machines running Vista. I have heard that something, don't know what, will stop at 11% some people say not. What might stop and why? Ive also been told that there are new drivers for 'mobile device center' that fix this problem but no driver dates or version No's are posted anywhere. Any advice here would be helpfully also.
I know several folks who are also waiting for me (the guinea pig) to do this and they will follow.
Thanks for the time all have put into this effort.

All of the instructions and options for flashing are up-to-date in the Wiki.

I own and operate an xv6800, I used the methods listed in every sticky to flash my first time, never had a problem.
I have always used DCD's ROMS and used whatever he had posted in whatever thread for every ROM/kitchen. The man is thorough in putting the necessities in his threads.
Now I just flash whenever, no problems. I run 32 bit vista and xp on my machines and neither gives a headache.

The wiki is your guide to a successful upgrade. Study it.
Nonetheless, for those wanting VZW-specific instructions, here's how I upgraded my XV6800 to radio 3.39.10 and dcd's 3.1.2 a couple weeks ago.
I take no responsibility for anything you do to your device.
Code:
I. Upgrade bootloader
A. Establish an ActiveSync connection via USB
B. Execute Hard-SPL-MFG.exe to upgrade the bootloader to 2.40
[url]ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/ImCoKeMaN/roms/Hard-SPL-MFG.exe[/url]
Follow the steps in the command window closely - they are very clear
II. Format a microSD card for installing radio and OS ROMs
A. Using a card reader attached to your computer, format a microSD card into FAT32 with an allocation unit/cluster size of 1024
1. Open a command prompt and type
format ?: /FS:FAT32 /A:1024
where ? is the drive letter assigned to the microSD
III. Use microSD to install Radio ROM
A. Download radio 3.39.10
[url]http://rapidshare.com/files/113794877/radio339.rar[/url]
B. Un-rar
C. Copy RUU_signed.nbh to your microSD card
D. Rename RUU_signed.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
E. Insert microSD card into phone
F. Force into bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET
G. Bootloader will load and begin loading the ROM on the microSD
F. When radio upgrade is complete, reset phone and force into bootloader
IV. Use microSD to install OS ROM
A. Download the OS ROM (e.g. dcd_titan_3.1.2)
B. OS ROM will be .exe file. Use WinRAR to extract files, one of which will have an .nbh extension
C. Copy *.nbh (e.g. dcd_titan_3.1.2.nbh) to your microSD card
D. Rename *.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
E. Insert microSD card into phone
F. If not in bootloader, force into bootloader by pressing POWER+CAMERA+RESET
G. Bootloader will load and begin loading the ROM on the microSD
F. When OS upgrade is complete reset phone, eject the card, reset the phone
You will more than likely need your USB-headphone dongle/adapter that came with the phone.
After I upgraded my phone, resetting the phone caused the bootloader to appear instead of
loading the OS. For whatever reason, with the 11-pin USB dongle this doesn't happen
and the OS ROM boots without a problem.
V. Follow on screen instructions and allow customizations to run. Phone will reset when complete.
VI. Install Verizon carrier cab, reset when complete.
[url]http://www.lifesnotsogood.com/dcd1182/titan/carriers/dcd%20Titan%20Carrier%20-%20Verizon.cab[/url]
VI. Dial *228, reset when complete
VII. From your phone, browse to [url]http://ota.wsync.com/[/url] to download, install the XV6800 Over The Air sync client
After I upgraded the radio I wasn't able to load the stock OS and was unable to establish an ActiveSync connection via USB, thus was unable to use the RUU method. Using a card reader and microSD method to flash the new OS ROM saved my ass. I won't flash any other way now.

Can you explain this more? Are you saying everytime i reboot my phone i will need the USB/Headphone adapter plugged in? Or just the first boot?
Also, I dont have a SD reader. Can i just copy the files to my SD card with the SD in the phone and connected via USB?
Thanks,
Mitchell

For me, only about 1 in 3 reboots do NOT require the USB dongle. I have no idea why that is, I think it's an issue with the bootloader, but there are some threads on this board with more technical info. (I work in IT and carry a whole mess of cables in my bag, so it wasn't a huge concern of mine to tote the USB-headphone adapter around.)

Nope. You can read/write to the card but I don't think you can change the file system of the card while it's in the phone. Card readers are cheap, less than $20, and very handy to have.

Also, when getting the required info before i start i dont see a key for security when i do a ##778. Is this ok/normal for verizon?
Thanks again!

After the entire process was complete you are able to sync with the PC? Just not prior to doing the ROM update? Syncing is essential to me for backups etc.
Thanks for all the advice guys!!

wow, so i just remember i had a SD reader on my linux server. I went down and loaded up my VM of XP. Started to format my SD card and it blue screened and now I cant get my SD card to reconize in my computer or phone. I guess that a worthless piece of plastic now.. Ill try the USB method.

That was the same for me when I checked my EPST before upgrading. That's a good thing: you don't have an A-Key (security) now so you won't need one after flashing.

Correct. However, now when I sync I have to use the USB/Headphone dongle. I can also sync via Bluetooth.

I just want to say thank you to everyone. I was able to get DCD 3.1.6 running by flashing the Sprint ROM and then flashing DCD 3.1.6. The only problem I'm having is getting Radio 3.39 to load. It will get to 8% and then the phone reboots.

If anyone is near newport news VA and wouldnt mind helping me out with upgrading my 6800 let me know. Ill provide the beer

Stuck on BL Screen, no sync, can't upgrade.

My phone came across some issues. Don't ask how. I have a few issues and heard this is place to go. Here goes.
I tried to turn my phone on.
It vibrated, the green light turns on, but no display.
So I turned it on to the Bootloader screen (it's the only display I have). It reads:
"TITA100 MFG
SPL-2.40.Olipro
CRLD-9"
I connect to the computer, and I hear the chime to confirm its connection.
However, I open Mobile Device Center and it doesn't show that a phone is connected. I go to to Device Manager, and I see that there is a "Microsoft USB Device" connected, which is my phone.
So in all, when I try to flash a new ROM, it tells me there's a connection error. However, it knows my phone is there because the phone's screen changes. HOWEVER, when the flash is operating, it tells me what ROM its flashing to. It does not tell me the image I have though, which leads me to suspect I don't have a ROM at all on my phone.
I'm dead confused as to what to do. Everyone has an actual OS to use and to connect to Mobile Center (activesync). So...help me out if you can?
I don't want my little baby to die.
...come on...breath Mogul...it'll be ok.
You have unlocked your phone and have the 2.40 bootloader installed which is suitable for the 3.35.xx and later based ROM builds. You must also match your chosen ROM with a suitable radio.
Activesync will only make a connection when you are booted into Windows Mobile. For flashing, that connection is only necessary to unlock/lock your phone and change the bootloader.
You are fine, but are not telling us what you are trying to flash to or what information you are following to flash. If you read the sticked threads on the front of the forum and check out and follow the instructions posted in the Titan Wiki for upgrading to the latest GPS/EDVO Rev A ROMs, you should find all the links and information you need to successfully upgrade your phone.
Thank you very much.
I thought I was stuck.
I think I'm going to upgrade to the latest ROM and try to get it running. This leads me to a new question:
Is there any special step I need to take when wanting to Flash using the SD Card? The ROM, let's say 3.35 Alltel. I put it in the card and it says "Loading", then it shows the number "00068002" in red up top, and then the blue words "No Image File!" appears.

You are missing out a few steps in telling us what you have done. Tell us exactly what you are doing and with what type of card.
Alrighty.
I have a 1 Gig card, FAT32 1024.
I'm trying to get the "Alltel 3.35.671.9 ROM".
I read that I am to flash that ROM first, but like I said, the progress bar shows up on my phone when flashing with the .exe program (gray background, progress bar up top), and then it gives me an error message and I have to reset my phone and go through the tedious "recovery" process.
When I try to use the SD Card to install the Alltel image 3.35.671.9, it says Loading, and then No Image!, and it takes be back to the BL screen.
Is that enough?
Thank alot.
As you have apparently have a suitable SDcard, you don't need to bother with the Alltel ROM. You can directly flash a suitable discrete radio ROM (links in the Wiki to 3.37.20 & 3.39.10). Less hassle that way and the best method for future radio changes without affecting your data or OS ROM. With the CDMA Radio upgraded you can then repeat with the SDCard routine to flash to one of the later third party ROM or kitchen build of your choice. After that, all should be fine to boot into the new OS.
Remember that the ROM file copied to the root of the SDcard must be renamed TITAIMG.nbh.
Damn it all.
I put the card in with the Radio in it, named "TITAIMG.nbh", and it only reads "loading" then "No image file!"
I tried both Radios, and my card is fine.
Still no luck.
Geez...what a disappointment. Thanks for your help though. I feel safer knowing there's hope for the thing.
Did you format the card into FAT32 from your PC?
Oh well, I guess again resort to using the latest Alltell or Sprint ROM via the USB to upgrade your radio. Rather than using their installation routine you can again extract the ROM image but now manually initiate the ROM Update Utility as described in the Wiki.
Thanks again for the tips and info.
Sadly, flashing by SD always gives me a "No Image File!" message, and flashing by USB always gived me a 262 Update Error message, no matter how many times/ports/resets I do.
I guess I'm stuck then.

** FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND HELP WHEN FLASHING **
1. What the benifits are of flashing a new rom?
Flashing a New Rom basically gets rid of all the garbage thats included on Stock Roms and Flashes a Clean, Optimized, Fully loaded Rom that will squeeze every ounce of speed and stability from your phone. Chefs usually include all the programs you are ever likely to need and because the Rom has been cleaned out you are left with more memory to play around with.
2. What are the different types of Unlock? (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device (i.e. Raphael) - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash Hard SPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Also, SuperCID is an even older concept no longer valid on newer devices.
Wow, Great job Mskip!
Just wat i was looking for.
A couple questions though...
1. These instructions will also work on the Fuze, right?
2. Once the phone is done flashing and it is booting up, we are sopposed to HARD RESET when we get to the Stylus Config part?...I didnt know that...ive read some other tutorials, and this step isnt included? ?
Fuze, yes. Sprint, no. There's no Hard-SPL for CDMA phones yet I believe.
Thanks a lot! just what I was looking for (the bit about not needing CID unlock to flash roms.. just hardspl).
gj, mskip, but shouldn't you be clear that your instructions and links are only for GSM Raphaels???? As of the past few weeks the flood gates are now open among 5 North American carriers for the CDMA version of the Raphael. No sense in encouraging confusion and hassles from those less in the know.
There is a release for an unlocker for the CDMA phones, but after a quick search some may mistakenly find themselves to your links and info here.

Its the ENTER (center) Button. I have amended the instructions to make that part easier to understand.
might sound stupid, but I think you should say what RUU means and what it is...
first time I flashed hardSPL I couldnt find what this RUU means (while reading steps before flashing).
I started flashing without knowing what it was, when I opened the .exe its title was self-explaining, but its hard to know before starting... because the .exe name is not RUU or something like that
Sorry for bad english!

Bricked Fuze?
I was using OliPro Rapheal Unlocker and seemed to have bricked myself. (my fault, I understand the risk) I'm not a total newbee, but first time I ran into this. Any ideas how to get past a Upgrade ROM code error? Updated from 8525 to Fuze.

I dont recognize the SPL version in your signature is it from Oli's Sim/CID Unlocker?
Can you explain exactly what you have done to your phone and when you bricked it please. Also can you load your Rom up or does it get stuck.
Have you tried flashing the HardSPL from Step1?

If you flashed the hardspl, then you should be fine and should not have done any lasting damage. You didn't read the part of the instructions that tell you that you must first flash a 1.01 version of the att radio. You can get that here:
http://www.rapidspread.com/file.jsp?id=v3q7csfizy
If you don't then you get the rom upgrade error. Just put your phone into bootloader (tri-color screen), and flash that radio. Also, as always, questions about specific roms, apps, etc should be posted in the thread they came from. That is where all the people most knowledgable about the subject are most likely to read it.
@Mskip, i think that SPL is for his 8525 not his fuze.

I did know and realize that, and your walkthrough doesn't give instructions for that either, but rather for flashing a ROM using the mSD method.
I was referring to flashing a new ROM from the MicroSD card and getting this error message in the HardSPL Bootloader screen. The ROM image has the proper name (RAPHIMG.nbh) but isn't seen by the OliNex bootloader.

My Mogul Is Dead

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Mogul was taken to a store that flashes phones to cricket. So it was ok before I took it to the store now. When I turn the phone on it boots to the smart mobility screen says "No Radio" then turns right off. I formatted my microSD card put the TITAIMG>nbh file on the card put my phone in the bootloader mode. Now my phone turns on and stay in the smart mobility screen w/ the No Radio still on it, and thats it. Is this phone dead? If not HELP!

If you paid someone to flash it, take it back! Did they give you back a non working phone? You'd think they would have tested it???
It sounds like you have a rom / Radio incompatibility problem. Or no radio at all. You say that you put the radio nbh on the card and put it into bootloader mode, but did you actually flash the radio? Did it come up with the grey screen and blue progress bar showing it was actually flashing the Radio rom?
Mogul Dead
No my phone did not do any of that stuff. And no I do not think that I flashed the radio I don't know how. I put the nbh file on the card insert it put it in the tri color screen and nothing happens. Man I am screwed. The kid at the store is saying that I did something & I did not. I have been reading alot cause I do not know anything about this flashing stuff and it does seem like there might be a radio/rom compatability thing going on cause the phone says no radio. I followed some forum steps to no avail.
dude if you get the tri color boot loader screen you did not kill your phone, all you need to do is flash your radio, witch is completely seprate from flashing your OS. just read the wiki and relax
The phone is telling you what is wrong "No Radio" you should be able to flash a radio via your sd card then flash a rom and all should be well. You just need to make sure the radio is compatable to the ROM. What is your ROM Version that shows on your boot screen. Also what bootloader is installed (tricolor screen)
I realize English isn't your primary language, but based on how you phrased your last comment, it sounds like you are inserting the SD card after the tri color screen.
The card needs to be in the phone before you press the 3 buttons for the boot loader screen, then it should see it.

Mogul Dead
Ok great sounds like from the replies that my mogul is not dead. Ok thanks guys. Also when I put the phone in the bootloader modethe tro color screen the card is already inserted, and the bootloader is SPL-2.40.Olipro. I do not know what ROM was put on the phone when it came from the store. So yeah I just might have to keep tyring to combine the right radio for the right rom thats on the phone.
find radio 3.42.50 and flash it via your sd card
then find the rom you want .....example.... DCD 3.2.6 and flash it via your sd card
then install dcd's carrier cab for you carrier and you should be up and running
Mogul Dead
How do I flash DCD's ROM to the sd card I never did this.
Do you have a ROM ready to flash? If so just goto the wiki link for the Titan's and do some reading. Everything you'll ever need to know about flashing is in there...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Titan
Focus on the radio first, once you get it flashed, then you can worry about flashing the rom.
For the rom (not radio) it's much easier, from the tri-color screen, plug in your USB cable and run the .exe file and it will flash.
However, get the radio updated first.
Try the 3.42.50 radio, I personally use 3.42.40 but they are very close and both support the same roms.
BTC
Freaking out as well
I'm stuck at the tri-color screen after updating the bootloader to 2.40.Olipro , I thought I could update the bootloader and still go into my Windows 6.1 install (and update the rest later).
I thought I totally screwed up my phone until I read this thread so hopefully there is still hope for this.
I do not have an SD card so I'm trying to do it the USB method by downloading the "ROM Update Utility" and placing the TITAIMG.NBH file into the RUU directory. It seems to work but stops at about 8% and the phone goes black then the PDA Phone ROM Update Utility pops up a:
ERROR [328]: INVALID COMMAND
This update utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.
As you can imagine I'm absolutely panicked right now and will appreciate ANY help!
well save yourself some grief and buy a 2 gig microSD card. Then all you have to do is put the radio ROM on it, go into bootloader mode and let it flash. That is the safest and easiest way to do it. Also less, read nill, chance of bricking your phone.
Ok I'm heading out the door to Best Buy right now...
So once I get the radio installed, I then install DCD using the SD card method? Then the carrier cab?
I've already updated the bootloader to 2.40 using the USB method, will mixing these two cause any issues?
Now that I'm totally stuck at the bootloader, are there any precautions I should take before continuing?!?
Thanks so much for the help, I can't wait to get this going and maybe help out people like myself in the future
I got a 2gb card, formatted it to FAT32, downloaded 3.42.50 radio, renamed it and placed it into the root directory of the card.
I then put it into the phone, then did a POWER+CAMERA+RESET. It comes back to the bootloader screen doing nothing.
I've been reading around and it looks like I'm doing everything correct???? It just sits there and at the bottom it says "Serial"
EDIT: Oh you have to HOLD that combination for a couple seconds. Got it, I'll keep going on the process....
Here's what I just recently posted in another thread for someone wanting step by step instructions on how to flash the phone. He said he followed it and it worked so hopefully it helps you out.
1. Download everything you will need.
a) nueSPL 2.47 from http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/pag...HTC-Titan.aspx
b) Radio 3.42.50 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415364
c) The ROM from http://www.scottcrosler.com/
2. Back up your SD card and then format your SD card into FAT32 with less than 4kb cluster size. Open My Computer, right click on your SD card, select format and adjust the settings accordingly.
3. Run nueSPL 2.47 on your phone with your SD card in. It will reformat your SD card again and put the bootloader on it. When you reset your phone it will install the bootloader. Just follow the instructions.
4. Copy the nbh file from the radio rom onto your SD card and rename it to TITAIMG.nbh. Put it in your phone and put the phone into bootloader mode by pressing CAMERA, POWER, and RESET (the recessed button on the bottom of the phone) at the same time. When it starts up it should come up with a grey screen telling you to press POWER to continue flashing. Do this and wait for it to complete. When it is complete delete the nbh file from your card using your computer.
5. Put the phone into bootloader mode again using the same method as before. Connect your phone via USB to your computer and run the ROM flashing exe to flash the rom. Just follow the instructions that come up. It's easy. When that is done your phone has the ROM installed. If the USB method does not work for you, look for the largest .nbh file and copy it to your SD card, rename the .nbh file to TITAIMG.nbh again, and reset into bootloader again. You should get the same screen as you did when you flashed the radio. When it's complete the ROM is installed.
6. Run the CAB file from My Documents to extract all the other cabs. After that is complete look for the cab for your carrier and install that. Soft reset.
7. Your phone should work now.
I think that's it. Anyone else feel free to correct anything I probably have wrong... I just wrote that from memory. It's normally easy to do and you just follow the on screen prompts so I might've made some mistakes. I always just flash via SD now because it's so easy and I don't require a PC for anything.

The bold text is a step I left out for the other person but he figured it out.
Edit: Oh yeah, skip the part where you install the bootloader (step 3) since you're already running an unlocked bootloader and don't have a working OS on the phone to install 2.47. Once you have a working OS you can go ahead and update from 2.40 to 2.47 if you want a slight improvement in performance. It will not require you to reflash everything else again (or at least didn't for me).
Yes! 100% working. Didn't even have to call Verizon to reactive it, everything was ready to go as soon as I got the new rom.
Thanks for the help!

Did you install the carrier cab?
Also see in EPST. If you use EVDO, may be login and pass are erased after flash. I had same problem with official Sprint ROM.
And what kind of GPS you are talking about? aGPS?

drops connection to mobile network all the time, will not complete rom upgrade anymor

Bought my M3100 2nd hand in June 2008, never had a problem.
Today the radio started going nuts. The phone started showing "no network connection symbols" in the top bar, most of the time.
Occasionally it did find the network (Three) and would allow me to call voicemail, but with very very bad sound quality and the odd squeaking and electric buzzing noises in the background - most of the time it dropped the call after 4-5seconds.
Quite often the phone would stall when I tried to bring up the dial pad and dial a number or tried turning off 3G//UMTS in the Comm Manager.
Getting ready to take it back to the shop I bought it from, I tried to reload an Orange rom (SPV_M3100_ROMUpdate_1007) and when that failed HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108. In both cases the rom upgrade failed at 12% with error 262.
I repeated flashing several times, on 2 different Windows XP computers and several different cables as well.
M3100 running TNT.19199_Professional_Hermes (before it failed)
HERM100
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Any suggestions?
Use sd card method.
1. Format 2Gb or less sd card FAT32. Copy the .nbh file onto it and rename to hermimg.nbh.
2. Insert card and reset to bootloader.
3. If you haven't stuffed up the other steps, follow the prompts.

Thanks will try that. I take it you are trying to rule out a USB problem?
Eureka! Install completed successfully. Thanks for the tip.
Unfortunately the phone problem persists. Any suggestions?
If not, is it possible to re-apply the Orange Sim Lock? The company I got the phone from apparently considers it grounds to void the warranty, if one unlocks a purchased phone.
Looks like that the flashing from SD worked first time was a fluke. I have subsequently tried it again and it stalled at GSM.
Is this a physical problem with the Hermes or should I try following the corrupted radio repair guide?
Just to be clear, I haven't played with the rom in 3-4 month. The problem of the Hermes stalling when starting phone related functions, not being able to find a phone signal and dropping calls after 4-5 seconds started out of the blue.
Sorry mate, sounds like your radio rom is corrupted.
You could try to re-install the stock rom but if it keeps freezing it means that you won't be able to use as a phone. Look around on here for mr vanx spl downgrade guide, it should be able to help you restore your proper spl so you can take back.
If you can't install the stock rom then you could at least install a stock rom without the radio part. This will allow you to use the PDA functions but no phone functions...
Cheers...
Thanks for the help!
I took my chances with the shop and they just replaced it with another!
I am about to unlock/install TNT back onto it. OooOOoooh happy days!

[GUIDE] Step-by-step instructions for debranding and HSPL for AT&T Titans

ATTENTION: Due to the lack of time, to which I sincerely apologize for, I am no longer able to maintain this guide. Also, I am no longer answering PMs in reference to help with this guide. I apologize, but life's a little hectic for me at the moment. Thank you all that have read my guide and if you would like to take over for this guide and update it, please PM me. Thank you!!
Hello everyone! Figured I'd put together a step-by-step guide for those trying to figure out how to install HSPL and roms onto their AT&T branded HTC Titans.
************STOP AND PLEASE READ BEFORE PROCEEDING************
You are currently required to debrand your phone. DO NOT continue further with this guide if you do not wish to remove your AT&T branding.
This guide is NOT for the HTC Titan II. There is currently, to my knowledge, no way in being able to install HSPL on the Titan II as of this time. So please, do not even attempt to go through with this guide with your Titan II. Not only will it not work, but you never know if doing so will damage your phone.
***For the record, you CANNOT hold me nor those credited below responsible for any mishaps and/or catastrophic failures with your phone. Not even when T-800s start to emerge from your phone! You are following this guide at your own free will and discretion, and as such, it is your own responsibility if you break your phone. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE: read this guide slowly and carefully. Read it through several times, just so you are absolutely sure you understand the instructions. If you feel as though you're not entirely sure what to do on this guide, DO NOT PROCEED FURTHER. Instead, you may post your question down below and I'll try to answer it as best as I can. But I cannot guarantee you an answer nor any help in general. You have been warned.***
************Continuing with this guide means you've understood the warnings and accept all responsibility for your actions************
Pre-installation notes: Due to how the process is still somewhat finicky at best, this guide is NOT guaranteed to work. Also, you have no choice at this time besides having to make a goldcard. There's just no other way.
Also, as listed in DFT's thread: Only Titan phones that have the following MIDs will work: " 'PI39****", 'PI391100', "PI391000' " Also, they've posted an issue about not updating to 4.xx.xxxx.xx roms, as there is an issue with this. Please thoroughly read the thread before proceeding: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684912
However, if you do follow the guide properly and with a little lady luck on your side, this guide should help you debrand your Titan, as well as install HSPL on it. If I am missing anything about this guide, please inform as soon as possible, as so I can update this guide accordingly and credit you.
Also, for those looking for a more visual aid, please view Budniu's video on downgrading SPL's and using the goldcard method down below past the written instructions. If they helped you, please thank him!!
Requirements:
Hardware:
-Y-USB cable. I actually made my own easily. I'll post pictures in the following post on how to make your own without soldering.
-1 or 2 gb SD or microSD card. To my experience and knowledge, SDHC and SDXC cards DO NOT work. I wasted money figuring that out the hard way. The way it worked for me was with a 2gb microSD card from Sony that came with the SD card adapter.
-SD card reader, preferably a single-SD card port on it. In my experience, I tried two multi-card readers with no avail. I purchased a regular SD card reader and it worked wonders.
-Optional: Flash drive*
*This is optional, due to the fact that I never had any luck in using a flash drive as my gold card. It may or may not work for you, but the chances of it not working are higher than getting an SD card that won't work. At least, that's just how my experience with this went.
Software (links provided below):
-HTC Eternity EU official rom 1.09.401.02, link will be provided once upload is complete. File size is 410 mb, so be forewarned.
-Goldcard maker
-Goldcard image
-DFT's HSPL
-Optional: HTC Eternity Cingular rom & RUU*
*There is a possibility trying to debrand the phone without downgrading your SPL first may or may not work. When in doubt, it would be better to first flash this image first on your phone before proceeding any further. If your SPL is 1.10.xxxx.xx or lower, you may skip this process.
UPDATE: As found by XDA member Prerna, you do not need to downgrade with a stock Cingular rom prior to flashing a stock Euro rom. Thank you!
UPDATE #2According to both members from different threads, as well as those that have contacted me about this, you are no longer able to download the European rom from its original location. I have thus uploaded it via DropBox, and a link to the download has been provided below. Thank you for notifying me!
*Update*: I forgot to add this, which may account to the gold-card method not working out for you, but you must change the name of the rom you are putting on the SD card BEFORE you make it a goldcard to "ETERIMG.nbh". Otherwise, the phone will most likely not be able to read the .nbh file. Sorry for this!!
Instructions for debranding:
I. Backup anything you don't want to lose from your phone. This process will delete everything.
II. Step Two has been removed as it is now a unnecessary step in this process as noted above.
III. Create your goldcard and debrand your phone:
Note: As mentioned by Prerna, he noted that a manual reboot after using the goldcard method was required. In my case, my phone rebooted on its own; perhaps this may have been just a fluke, I'm not entirely sure. However, based on how sure he was about this, I would then like to add that it is more than likely that you are required to reboot the phone from USB host mode manually to the SPL screen after flashing.
i. Insert your SD card into your card reader and plug into your computer. If you're using a flash drive, just follow this guide the same way.
[*]ii. Once your memory shows up completely, go to "My Computer", right click on where your SD will be shown, and click on "format". Make sure that under "File System" says "FAT32" and under"Allocation unit size" is "4096". IT CANNOT BE ANYTHING ELSE. Whether or not these settings were enabled, select "Start", only if "Quick Format" is selected. Once it completes formatting, time to find your downloaded goldcard maker.
[*]iii. Open up the goldcard maker by right-click, select "Run as Administrator". When it opens, make sure your SD card appears in the drop-down box next to "HTC MMC:".
[*]iv. Ignoring the top portion with the CID options, go down to where it says "Load GoldCard.img". Wherever you downloaded the goldcard image, select it and click "open".
[*]v. Click on "Patch MMC" and wait for it to complete. The debug log window will let you know whether or not your card was successfully completed.
[*]vi. Once you successfully made your goldcard, you will then drag and drop the .nbh image file into the SD card. Once completed, safely eject your SD card and reader.
[*]vii. Next, plug the reader with the card into one of the female ends of your y-cable (assuming you either purchased one with a female end on it or you followed my guide below). With the power-only male end of your cable, plug that either into a wall charger or into your pc (preferably a back port if on a desktop).
[*]viii. Next, you want to power off your phone, give it a kiss, and boot it into USB-Host mode. The way I did this was while holding the Volume-Down button and the Camera button, I plugged my micro-usb end into the phone, while the micro-usb cord was plug into my y-usb cable. This will make the phone boot on its own and into USB-Host mode.
[*]ix. If you did the following correctly, your phone will display "Entering USB-Host mode..." momentarily, before switching to a "loading" screen. You should hopefully then see the phone reading the image file on the SD card and performing the debranding. Your phone will reboot one or two times back into USB mode.
[*]x. If the debranding was a success, your phone *will reboot back into SPL mode with the update rom version*. In my case, I rebooted my phone back to normal instead. If the startup screen says "HTC X310e", then the debranding is a success.
*As mentioned above, it is more than likely that the phone WILL NOT reboot back to SPL mode on its own. In my experience, it did. Either way, if your phone does not reboot back into SPL mode on its own, then simply reboot the phone back into SPL mode via Volume UP+DOWN+Power button.
IV. Goldcard part II:
i. After confirming that you DO now have an unbranded Titan, you will now proceed to redoing the gold card method once more. This time, however, you need to delete the .nbh image you placed on your card and place the one that can be found in the DFT .rar you downloaded earlier. To find it, simply extract the contents, navigate through >DFT_HSPL_WP7SG1>1_SPL205>TITAN>ETERIMG.nbh.
[*]ii. Select this file and place it onto your goldcard (assuming you plugged it back into your computer properly (not attached to the y-cable) and deleted the previous ETERIMG.nbh file on it.
[*]iii. Once it's on the SD card, remove it once again and follow steps "vi." through "viii." of the steps for the goldcard instructions, disregarding anything about it being debranded. This is only an upgrade flash.
[*]iv. Once it reboots properly back into the SPL screen on its own**, make sure that the rom version has been updated to 2.5.xxxx.xx. If not, you may have done something wrong, and if you're able to, redo the process more carefully.
**Again, as mentioned above, I've been told that this isn't entirely true. It's more than likely that the phone will not reboot back into SPL mode after flashing. If it hasn't, manually reboot into SPL mode. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
V. HSPL
i. Once confirming you have 2.5.xxxx.xx on your SPL screen, you will now proceed to the final part: enabling HSPL. What you will need to do is navigate once more into "DFT_HSPL_WP7SG1" (the .rar file you downloaded from DFT), and go here: >DFT_HSPL_WP7SG1>2_HSPL>DFT_HSPL_WP7SG1_INSTALL.exe. Open the executable and properly read the instructions.
ii. Enter SPL once more on your phone and plug it into your computer, making sure that it says "usb" in black letters towards the bottom portion of the screen.
iii. Click next on the program and read careful about what requirements you will need on the computer. Typically, it should all be there, but it never hurts to make sure.
iv. Take a deep breath and click next. It will attempt to connect to the phone. If it succeeds, continue reading the instructions the program will display. If it does not work, recheck your wire connection and that you have spl 2.5.xxxx.xx on your device, and that it is in SPL mode.
v. Make sure you select the rom version that you have (it should be the only selection there, but just make sure it is before continuing). Select next once you've made your selection.
vi. It will install HSPL. Once completed, the phone may reboot itself back into SPL mode. If it has succeeded, underneath where it shows your rom version, it will either have "DFT" or "CotullaH" written there. Mine says "CotullaH".
VI. Finished!
-If there's anything that I may have missed whilst writing this guide, please do not hesitate in leaving a reply in this thread. As you can see, it is somewhat long and complicated, and I wouldn't be surprised if I had forgotten to add something. So please, let me know so I can update this guide as well as give you credit. Thank you and congratulations if the guide worked!!
Visual aid provided by Budniu:
Post-installation notes: As stated above, this is NOT guaranteed to work. It had happened to work out for me quite well and figured that perhaps this may work for others as well.
Thanks notes: As I've been here for about a year or two but haven't really posted much, I don't entirely care whether or not I receive any thanks. But if this guide worked for you, then it would be mucho appreciated Also, you should thank those who I've credited down below for their contributions in making this guide possible for you guys. Yeah I should have made a note about that as well. However, when I attempted to use a flash drive, it had never worked for me. I must've tried 8-10 old 1gb-2gb drives, no avail.

I'm going to guess what happened, since it's somewhat difficult understanding your writing, but I have a feeling you might have done something wrong and semi-bricked your phone. If you can only see the first two lines when going into SPL mode, I'm pretty sure you bricked it. At this point, you might be able to try to downgrade to a stock Euro rom, but I cannot say that it'll definitely fix it =/ sorry.
Does anyone know if this will work for Titan II also?
Thanks
Ugh none of my flash drive or card reader works. Can anyone who successfully debranded their HTC titan recommend me something?

It might pay to re-look at the steps you did to make your gold card before trying different sd cards. First, is the timing of copying ETERIMG.nbh file- original instruction of making gold card from MaryFetus is to copy first the .nbh file into the msd card then run gold card tool to patch the card. Or try running the gold card tool first and once this is completed then copy ETERIMG.nbh file into the msd card (goldcard). The latter step works for me recently to get rid of F400. See if this works for you. Goodluck.

no avail. I might try Kingston data traveler or SanDisk cruzer where people reported success. If anyone else like to chime in and add working flash drive or reader help yourself

Could my Y-Cable I purchased from Ebay be faulty?
When I connect my Y cable to computer, one cable reads my Flash Drive fine, however, if I connect to the other cable (using usb gender converter) the Flash Drive lights up but it isn't read by my computer (just powers on)
Is this normal?
