err little help - xdaII 2003-2003se upgrade gone a bit wrong

Hi all,
I just upgraded my xdaII from WM2003 to WM2003SE which seemed to work ok.
I then got the issue where the screen stops responding and worked out how to edit the config.txt file, ok I thought I'll just re-install SE.
So I dock my XDA into the cradle but it wont connect with active sync 4 anymore, which means I cant install the OS again.
Can anyone help me??
Cheers
Marff
nevermind, did a hard reset and the pda is working ok now, still doesnt want to connect to Activesync tho
when flashing you dont want it to connect to activesync anyway
best thing is to set activesync to not sync on usb devices let windows find the pda as a non as device and then flash
also if you change the extented rom as in config.txt and reflash you are likely to get a new extented rom and a new config.txt overwriting yours anyway
most of the time when you change extented rom a hardreset is what you want
Hi rudegar
I didnt get as far as reinstalling the OS with the modded config.txt, once I hard reset the pda after installing it the first time it worked ok, it installed the O2 extensions and worked fine, except MSN messenger wont work, where before it would.
i tried disabling what you said and windows wouldnt detect it at all.
With it enabled I could see it as a mobile device in my computer, but not access it.
Also the active sync window would not load, the taskbar icon is there, but when you click on it the window does not pop up, but you can get to the options
its annoying as I now cant install any programs onto the pda, I dont have a USB reader for the SD card at the moment.
not sure whats going on

How do i download apps without Sync?

My hero is running modaco 2.2, but I don't know how to install my .apk's as sync doesn't work I understand I can run an adb or soemthing I'm pretty much a newb. SO step by step would be nice.
You can put your .apk files on a web server on your PC and grab the files from there using the browser on the phone.
Also you can install an ftp server like swiftp on the phone and then use an ftp client on your PC to transfer files to the phone. Then you'll need a file manager to install the .apk.

why would you do that??
Just cos Sync doesn't work (which is a good thing really, it's a pile o' ****e!) you can still copy the APK files to your phone using the USB cable; just mount the sd card.
then copy them across and open them on the phone using a file manager like Astro.
Sheesh, why do people always try to make stuff more difficult than it needs to be.....?
Ah yes, you're probably right . I don't use HTC Sync here (it doesn't work on Linux), so I thought his whole USB driver does not work so he could not use USB.
But I guess he still needs a file manager to install the .apk files once he has them on the phone, right? I tried to find a downloadable file manager .apk yesterday, but couldn't find one.
Now I have a question how do I run ADB commands like all the ADB-Install "instert apk here" things I've rooted and everything, but I don't know how I run those commands?
A step by step would be nice of everything I need to have, and what the commands would be.
dude, forget the ADB commands.
see my first post.
And BTW, even though HTC Sync doesn't work on Linux, the USB drivers for mass storage do, or at least, my Ubuntu rig running 9.04 happily saw my hero and copied stuff across to it in mass storage mode.

[Q] I bought my phone yesterday...

My current programinformation
operativsystemversion: 5.2.21869.
Manilaversion: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version: 1.66.413.2 (76641) SVE
IS the above old versions or new?
I have dowloaded some apps and other things for my HTC HD2.
Htc Flashlight, artemis, htc hd2 tweaks and apps, and more.
How do I install these apps and tweaks?
Where do I put them on the phone, in which folder?
How do I install them?
Do I have to update ROM or something else?
I have activesync on both my phone and pc.
I have no idea how to do, and the Q&A doesnt help. I know pretty much about windows pc use, but im a totally newb when it comes to mobilephones, I dont even know what manila, or ROM is :O
If they are cab files (ie *.cab), just save them to the device in any folder and "click" on them to install. (c0-y the files via USB or via microSD card)
You will be prompt to install either on device or microSD.
Cheers.

Welcome Silver. Cookies home tab & Cookies home tab editor are the apps you should start with. They will totally revolutionise the way your phone looks and works! Before you download them to the phone, you have to install NET3.5 framework. Download these three apps to your computer, then connect your phone via the usb it came with and select disc drive option and press done on the phone. Copy & paste or drag/drop these files into the program files folder on the new disc drive icon in your my computer window. Click the safely remove icon on the task bar and disconnect your phone from the pc. Now click the window icon on the phone, and scroll to the file explorer icon and press it. Click on NET3.5 and install it to the device when prompted. Do the same with CHT & Editor and be prepared to say WOW!!! Post here if you have any problems.

Sir, you don't need to run/install Net Framework from your device, but you must run it from your PC via Active Sync.
I cant run the installation file _setup in the NET3.5 folder?

Thanks for the info Kurt. I wasn't even aware of the fact I didn't need to install NET3.5 on my phone? It's on there anyway, and I'm having no problems whatsoever. I'll be sure to include that info in any further advice I give.

Well you go on the website I give up earlier, or do a research on Google fore Net Framework. you download it to your computer, and you connect your device with USB to your PC. you will see the window of ActiveSync on your screen (your pc trays to connect to your mobile device)
run the Net Framework application (.exe) from your PC. follow the steps, that's it.

Did you manage to get the NETCF3.5.CAB on your phone? I've done some digging, and you CAN install it on your phone. Connect the phone via usb and select the disk drive option from the phone screen and press done. Then go to my computer and click on the removable drive icon. Double click on program files icon and copy the NETCF3.5.CAB into this folder. Disconnect the phone from the computer, and press the windows icon on your phone. Scroll to file explorer icon and press it. Go to the top of the page and select the storage card. Press program files and find the net cab. Press it and follow the instillation process and it should install.

I think I know what the problem is now, I have Windows Mobile Device Center, instead of activesync, should I uninstall Mobile devi... and install activesync instead?

Just run on PC through Activesync, not in activesync

Activesync is for XP only, mobile devie center is the "ActiveSync" for Vista and Windows 7.
Functionality is equal (although perhaps when UAC active, one needs admin rights for full functionality - just guiessing about that though-)
You cannot run from activesync/mobile device center.
steps to follow:
1) Connect your phone to your computer
2) make sure you have partnership (even guest partnership is ok) betwwen phone and PC
3) Download the MS .net Framework from here and save it on your computer (eg in c:\tmp)
4) Run the downloaded package on your PC.
5) After running on PC, follow steps on your phone (if any)
It does not get any simpler...

[Q] Application installer missing?

Hi, Ive just updated my mini pro to 2.1 nordic firmware but ive notice the application installer thats suppose to be in the menu has dissapeared.
I just bought the phone so i didnt back up, now i have no means of detecting and installing universalroot/rootexplorer and other apps. Do you guys know where i can download it, i dont know what to do at the moment, ty.
Search on market for apps installer or grab any file manager that you want from market as those usually give you the possibility to install apps from the SD card.
Is there a way to download an app installer application from my computer to my phone or sd card? I cant browse the internet on my phone at the moment, ty.
Attached is an Application Installer that comes with 2.1 fw SG. It will search ur sdcard for all apk files. The other one is Linda Manager, a free file browser and installer.
Edited: I just realised that even if u copy over to ur sdcard, u can't install from 2.1 without an installer or file browser =x.
There is a way around the problem, install the Android SDK and use adb install <package> with your phone connected to your computer with USB.
