Well, currently we've got something that doesn't fall short of a horrible mass of Sticky threads; and with the explosion of ROM development possibilities; I propose a new forums entitled WM2006 (or something to the effect) where all efforts related purely to ROM upgrading etc, and less technical stuff can be posted; sure the lines would blue at times, but I think it'd balance out the mass of stuff nicely in much a similar way as has been done with the Himalaya forums.
On a different note... I will be cooking my own ROM which I intend to base upon WM6 Vanilla, but undoubtedly with features borrowed from Kyphur's release, except I intend to provide it with zero-branding since I utterly can't stand any form of branding on a phone personally other than the OS being presented the way in which God intended
What I *will* be doing however is kitting it out with a selection of applications and tools that would prove useful on the phone, so if people have suggestions, I'm all ears.
also... while I'm at it; is it safe to use the BuildImgFs.exe to build a ROM from the dump folder? cheers in advance for an answer to that one... since I *think* MakeImgFs just cleverly invokes AddFile.exe I reckon it'll work.
I was going to mention the sticky issue myself. At 1280x1024 the stickies pretty much take up the whole screen.
About the ROM cooking - are you sure you don't want to wait until kyphur releases the final vanilla ROM? It should be a lot more stable than a beta (obviously) and it wouldn't have all the weird issues like WiFi on/off only displaying "on," et cetera.
As for possible applications, since you'll probably cook it anyway (I know I would if I had the time) I think including the Widcomm stack would be extremely beneficial. I realize it's not a trivial task, but you did ask for suggestions... And, yes, I realize it's not technically an application
I think the wiki should be used for most of the things that are stickies now. Heh, what we need is a question to post a message to the forums. A question that the answer can be found in the wiki to... encourage.. people to read that first before posting stupid questions.
"How many stupid people does it take to make a brick?"
Too easy.. but I'm sure they'll find out the hard way.

awe c'mon maz have a heart. we have to laugh at someone. and those chosen few just so happens to be the ones that dont like reading 70 pages of useful information.
They're not even my threads and I get frustrated with the people registering to say "I flahs you rom and now it not wokr no more. How do i fix???!?!?!?!?" in something like the technical gps thread. I'm too polite to reply with, "You get that brick there, and shove it right up your...." like someone should. It's not like the thing is going to get any more rooted in the few days it'll take them to read the wiki and threads.
Cheers.

I'll update the wiki with some information on the sticky threads and remove some of them soon.

I'd actually consider downloading this, but I tend to be pretty picky about knowing where all the files came from and what changes were made, so I'll probably stick with my own kitchen I'm futzing around with. I'll take a peek, though, and I might be able to suggest a change or two if I notice things I've figured out that you've not yet implemented yet.

You want the honest truth? A couple of reasons.
In order to have something that I'd feel comfortable with other people using, it would require several more weeks of futzing around with the files. I've already been at this for almost three weeks now, and I'm tired of using my HTC Typhoon. I want my real phone back (since the Athena >>> Typhoon).
The final ROM that I'll be using won't match the ROM that other people will be using, period. It's because I'll be putting some of the software that I've bought into my ROM, and putting in some hard-coded dependencies upon those (since there are some interesting things here and there you can do).
I hate doing support. For which I heartily applaud irus, since he's been single-handedly patiently trying to help everyone who's been using his ROM. Pawel was doing the same for a while, albeit a little less patiently, although I don't know where he's disappeared off to recently.
There are probably other reasons as well, but those are the ones I can think of for now. I mean, if there's truly interest, I can see what I can do, but one of the other things that bit me the last time is that I don't want to debug things alone again - the last time, it sucked well over a month from my life to handle all that.
Anyways, this is the thread for the IRUS ROM Kitchen, not the maybe Sogarth ROM kitchen, so I'll leave it at that.
What about mixing Chinese with new Irus one?
I wonder if there could be a way to mix Irus rom with this Chinese one to get a new WWE version based on the newest built and fastest up to now?
It should not be e big problem to put mui files from Irus kitchen into Chinese rom and change a mui to English. There is a reg key setting language for the rom. Irus knows it better then me, anyway.
Unfortunately I can't download anything from rapidsare nor from megaploads because of me being behind a proxy of my 3G network.
Irus, if you could upload your kitchen on my eurotelefon server, then I could get it here and start learning. Today I have some work to do yet, but maybe later I could start.
Edit:
We have to test new rom of Irus first, and then compare it with the Chinese version. It could be very interesting. Steve has very good experience with this Chinese rom so we eventually could use it in future works. Of course we need to ask for the permission, but I am sure the Chinese producer can be proud of his work and let us use it to build something new on it. This is how the development goes, anyway.

i took a brief shoot as i have never done a language swap before and it did not work i will consider it but im still fussing around with new bt stack so people can send files back and forth between phones and laptop and phone. that is the last thing i need to do to make my rom complete. i will want a monday release as i said i would release on monday and i don't like being late. but on the other hand the chinese rom works better at transferring files so if this becomes a dead end then i might have no choice but to push back the release date and work with the chinese rom. i will make an official announcement tomorrow night
Sergiopi,
Please see my post on the Chinese ROM thread regarding caution in using this download.
irus,
This looks like a user friendly tool, but I've a question at the stage where we're looking at the dump: How do you go about finding out which pieces are for which ? Is there a website to go to in order to make sure we're removing the right thing? Or is it a trial and error kind of process? If I want to extract out the new cotact application from a newer ROM, for example, how do I know what the pieces are?

to me i think the easiest way, if you upgrading the app, is to look and see what files are in the new app and just replace the old. you could make packages but then you have to make a rom folder and xip subfolder and IMO buildos is sometimes picky about reg entries. so the best way is to just replaces the files in the dump folder and then edit the hv and if needed the inflashfiles.dat
This is also in conjuction with eaglesteves previous question.
So I do all of the 'editing' of the ROM in the dump folder right? Second, what if I want to remove entire program, is there an easy to extract 'everything' and its components from the ROM? For instance, what if I want to remove the calculator and put in a freeware calc. do I just remove the calculator folder or is there more to this process?
In the ROM that I'm editing...really just for experiment....I want to remove alot of things and add some, and see if I can put it back together.
I hope this makes since.
Thanks Irus for a good tutorial.

Need help for Exract Bluetooth stack and wireless manager from Taxist V10 rom
Hi
Anyone please help me to extract Bluetooth Stack and the wireless manager from taxist V10 rom.
Just i need to know that which files are needed for Bluetooth Stack and Which files for wireless manager.
I have seen the files in the os.nb but i do not know which files for the bluetooth and wireless.
Thanks in advance.
I downloaded the instructions but for some reason, it can't be read with any of my programs even Microsoft Word.
If I want to extract a particular file off from a WM6.1 RUU_signed.nbh file, which of the included programs should I use?
I tried Scoter Kitchen, but it does not read .nbh files.
NetCF3.5 OEM?
Hi Irus,
I was trying to get an OEM for NETCF3.5 from your FULL ROM using Sogarth kitchen, but with no joy.
Could you suugest any place I could look for it? The same for FTouch?
Have I missed a memo?
Why is it that the only base ROM's that I can find for the Raphael are 19965 builds?
Seem to be plenty of newer ROM's knocking around as cooked versions, but as the chefs insist on protecting them all the time, they're as good as useless for a part-timer like myself who likes to cook his own personal ROM's.
I never had this problem with any previous devices, so what's gone wrong? Have I upset someone?!
I totally agree...
Want to get my hands on build 2755.0.1.4 and turn it into dutch and tweak the hell out of it!
But first we need a source-rom...
Seconded.
yep a bit strange
all 20755 OS version are ported ones, for now no raphael native 20755 version out...

or alternatively I can unpack any 20755 ROM and copy the MSXIPKernel and MSXIPKernelLTK (also the SYS contents) to my base ROM and tweak it to my hearts content?

I've also started experimenting with porting. But can we just use any wm6.1 rom, as long as we keep the device oemkernelXP?
If I replace all 0409 files with 0413 in OEM en SYS will I have a flawless dutch rom? Or do I have to change links, rgu or dsm-files also? That's new for me...

Fair enough, I kind of guessed that 20755 was ported, 'cause it seems to be available for all devices.
I'm very surprised that after two months, there's still no native build newer than the original 19965. What are HTC up to!?

Cheers, I forgot about that one. Saw it in the Wiki a while back, and I flashed it briefly, but I've always struggled to customise Cingular ROM's in the past because of the amount of time it takes to get rid of every last little bit of their "tweaking". So I ignored it - partly because I assumed the slightly increased build number was only to do with the Cingular customisations.
I'll just have to wait until something new comes along from HTC.
I used to love the convenience of picking up an "almost perfect" cooked ROM to tweak for my own use, but it seems that chefs don't want us to do that these days. Thats their choice I suppose - BUT (and I'll get crucified for this!) it smacks of double standards when the "real" hard work was pinched from Microsoft/HTC in the first place.
I'm not trying to start an argument by the way! I just really wish that I could actually benefit from the various chefs' hard work, rather than having to do everything from scratch because of the restrictions they impose...
Only one chef that I know of (may have been kyphur?) still releases unprotected ROM's - maybe I just need to buy him a Touch Pro!?!
Here is what a collaegue chef has said:
"I'm not a big fan of people out there that protect "their" rom, which I think goes against the principle of forums and communities. Therefore I'm not protecting it against unpacking so that anyone can learn and share their knowledge. Of course, if you appreciate my work and want to buy me a drink, donation is welcome"
Thanks Spocky!!!
That's what it is all about indeed! But alot of cooks' egos are getting to big. Do not get me wrong, I really appreciate their efforts but by protecting rom's this way you don't give beginning cooks like myself a chance to learn it... And I think XDA is a place where we should learn from each other!

What you will find is that in the process of tweaking the ROMs the dsm and rgu files are removed as they represent around 200 files which sit in \Windows doing nothing. The more files in \Windows the more sluggish access to it is. Just happens that a side effect of this technique is that the dsm and rgu files are not present to allow a reconstruction of the ROM back into package form. Theres nothing wrong with ASKING for help when you require it about cooking etc...

Thank you very much for clarifying this issue! I was really getting annoyed by being under the impression that it was done on purpose.
Two facts/questions remain:
1) While dumping a rom (will not mention it's chef) my kitchen command line gave the message: "cook your own ROM!". So that is defenitly done on purpose... I regret that...
2) But with the pro's new way of cooking how can I as amateur cook get my hands on for example a 20755.1.4.0 build (XIP/SYS)??
Anyway again thanks for your explanation!
There are no any official ROMs for any device with build higher than 19971.
All these 20xxx ROMs can be simple fake - old builds with patched version number.
There is no any serious evidence that all these 20xxx builds are real. Only "trustful" words from some "elite" cookers
So, you may trust or not trust. I'm personally, don't trust any build if there is no any official (at least official beta) ROMs with such build. There are so many 100% fake builds are floating around.

1) the tool used to compress the dsms into one single package (thus MANY rgu and dsm file compressed into a single dsm file) generates this string, by default it is "BETA go cook your own ROM" or something to that effect but a simple hex editor can change it to something nicer such as "dsms compressed, sorry".
2) These builds (regardless of what people will claim) are genuine and the tool to edit the version numbers (which are encrypted afaik) is VERY rare, too much hassle than its worth to edit ALL the version numbers it would take AGES. They may not have been released on the devices officially but none-the-less they are out there and they are genuine WM6.1 builds. Each to thier own, but the newer builds DO have some serious improvments over the stock releases on the raphael.

I had asked your second question myself for a while and then I discover that many websites (in chinese though) such as xbeta.cn or 5dpda, they have the latest builds (many maybe fake) floating around. You can get one of them there. Or you can go to the Nike sub-forum, I find they have a nice storage of the most recent builds (such as 20748 to 20755), which are ported to NIke, you can re-port them using the same technique. My advice is to do a quick search of the whole forum, not just your device's, every one a while to check the newest build. Hope this help.

no offense sir, but i have never bought into this one.
it has been shown that using filemanager to scroll in the \windows folder is more sluggish with more files. many people have begun using this excuse as a reason for removing dsm and rgu files. however, i have seen no evidence to say that the device is more sluggish in general when more files exist in \windows. (and i have tested myself)

i mean no offense here either, but this statement is unfair. chefs can do whatever they please, and users have no right to be upset about their decisions.
(going way off on a tangent here...)
i agree that this community is based on sharing and intentionally making the process harder for another person is counterproductive. however, expecting every experienced chef to cater to every end user's desire to learn the process is the opposite extreme. taking up experienced chef's time to do nothing but train inexperienced chefs would also be counterproductive. in example, i generally do not answer questions on here after the answer has already been made readily available. if you have a legitimate question that you made an honest effort to answer on your own and were unable to, i would be glad to help, and so would most chefs.
i didnt learn how to customize a ROM by dumping other people's custom ROMs. i spent a year searching and reading forums to no end. the information i searched for and read hasnt gone anywhere, and its not my responsibility to nicely organize and summarize it for the next guy. you cant call out chefs because they arent making it easier for you than it was for them.
that said, i don't protect my ROMs.

1) which program do they use to compress the dsm's? I want to see if it makes a change...
2) I must agree to you about that they can do what they want, but for the part about making it easier I disagree. If it takes me a long time to figure somthing out I will share that knowledge on fora like this just to save others from putting the same effort into it as I did myself. (dutch expression: don't invent the wheel twice...) That's what the idea is isn't it? In my opinion it's selfish to think: I had too work hard so they will also have to do that (we are not 5 year olds are we?). And of course there will always be people who will 'steal a rom' and act as if they made it themselves, but that will be only a few. The majority would be pleased that they can 'finetune' a great chef's rom to their own needs!
I also searched for a year and read thousands of threads. I also started with shipped ROMS. But now I'm getting the hang of it a little and then it's dissapointing that you are not allowed to for example to port a newer xip/sys, to build your OWN cooked rom, because they do not want to share (not all like MrVanx mentionned). But it is just for argument's sake because I found a source for the 20755.1.4.0 XIP and SYS already. And if I can make somebody happy with those, I will be glad to share...

So I'm getting close to nailing down a test build but I keep getting a "System Build" Error... Found out that you have to KISS when it comes to options and only certain portions of the app and funciton list can support multi selects....Now to the question
How can I get a custom rom from one the guru's to beg borrow and still in that thing... do I throw the NBH file of theirs into the OEM USER folder? Or should I beg up their kitchen rars and load those to my kitchen I know NATF and Arrup and some others have load their kitchens will PPC take the RAR's and do it up or am smoking some good stuff all together?
Thanks!

Most of us dont use PPC kitchen. We use the Build OS and raphael kitchen created by Juggler, Jscepi, ervius and a few others. I know Da_G and I both have modified versions that we have customized. The main reason we dont use PPCKitchen is you lose most of the control over the rom.
You really cant use our roms in PPC kitchen. The only way would be to dump them with raphael kitchen and then use the packages for PPCkitchen.
I woulr suggest you take a look at Da_Gs new kitchen. Overall it will give you a better cooking experience and will let you learn more regarding cooking.

That's what I was going to do tonite but have only had time to fool around with PPC Kitchen and wanted to see if anyone has stretched it; being a hack I tend to become command prompt allergic and gui-config dependent but his seemed far easier than the standard Ralph Kitchen...stay tuned on Da-G's it seemed hella easy and an even better starter point to get into more advanced topics.
While I got your you don't mind if others take your stuff and try that out as the base... I know its kind of contradictory in retro but I like a wooby when I start something new like this lol.
I dont mind at all Ill upload my OEM ROM SYS folders this evening. My nbh cant be dumped since I combined the dsm file. However I will gladly share the base. Ill post them in my ROM thread.

In reading thru seems easy however just a point of clarity needed; when you say they are identical what do you mean exactly? I know the ROMs are different, but are you roofing to steps and kitchen behaviors? Sorry again for the newb answers just want to be clear
Thanks again!

Yes operation is identical. There are some differences behind the scenes
I've been reading through a couple of threads on this board concerning upgrading my XV6800 to WM6.5 and I have what may possibly be some stupid questions.
First - I'm the happy owner of two XV6800's so I was planning on using the not-currently-activated one as my guinea pig in case I brick the phone. I've downloaded what appear to be the most current upgrade files from theUnlockr.com and some instructions from that site. What I need to know is is theUnlockr a reliable site? Are these the most current files available? I'm currently upgraded to the 3.57.605.2 ROM and the 3.37.78 radio and I am looking to upgrade the HardSPL (which is what, exactly?), the radio (to 3.42.50 - which, if I am not mistaken, someone mentioned was eating battery life?) and the ROM using the version Unlockr has up as their latest favorite (RMverizonTitanWM65V2[1].1Heavy). I am pretty sure I can follow the directions that were given, but I'm hoping someone here can advise me if I should.
With all these updates running around everyone's 'kitchens' - it's hard for a relative noob like me to know which is the best update for her. I don't really need GPS - though I may load Garmin XT on my phone at some point - but I would like to have an efficient, elegant ROM on my phone that will not hog all my memory and will still give me at least all my current functionality (though hopefully more). Should I even be looking to update to WM6.5? Which update version do you folks think is the best for the Titan/Mogul/XV6800?
Thank you in advance for your patience and for the AMAZINGLY generous soul who has spent the time to generate these files! I went to the Verizon site and they don't seem to even remember what the 6800 looks like! And HTC doesn't have much either. I was amazed to find these sites. You guys are a godsend!
Ariel
Follow below just use whatever rom you want. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857
Thank you for the thread link. I've upgraded roms before, but it never hurts to have detailed directions like that. Good deal. However, what I was looking for was advice on whether or not the 6800 performs better under the available roms or if, in the experienced opinion of the developers on this site, it was better left as Microsoft intended? Does the fact that it only comes with 64 MB of RAM hurt it when loading WM6.5? Most of the new devices coming out with 6.5 have more than that and I wondered if I could get some advice before I jumped in. That's all.

The Titan is a very durable device. In my experience you can flash it at least a hundred times..
So my advice is to try as many ROMs as you like. 6.1, 6.5, Light, Heavy, Naked, Stock. Whatever it doesnt matter. Just keep going until you find what floats your boat.
LOL! Well, I doubt I'll be doing it a hundred times, but I figured I'd try and save myself some mistakes by asking the experts who have.
BTW, I think you were the one who came up with the ROM I've loaded (2.1 heavy) - very nice so far! I'm still getting a feel for it and I haven't tried to load any of my own software on it yet, but so far it's very slick. Thanks!

No problem sir. Glad I could be of assistance. My main computer is broke at the moment and I awaiting a new power supply now, currently using my spare computer (I dont have a spare 1000watt power supply to run my main pc for the banterers lol). Or else I would have my ROMs updated. More for you to mess around with. But the ones I have uploaded now should work out fine. I noticed in the nuetools folder though the leds shortcut is a folder. I fixed that though just have to re-cook and re-upload. Among other changes.
If I were to upgrade to the fix you describe, I'd only have to do the ROM again, right? The hardSPL and radio would be fine? See? I told you, stupid questions...
you are correct only the rom
