Everybody has been stating that they got GPS to work, but only some left instructions. I hope this helps. Thanks to those that gave me advice on how to get this working.
Make sure unter "External GPS" that the "GPS Program port:" has "COM4" selected. Leave "Hardware" alone which is the next tab over.
Then under "Access" make sure "Manage GPS automatically" is checked
Live Search for some reason wouldnt work until I got in my car and drove away from my house. Right when I drove away, the GPS kicked in, and worked as if I had an external GPS. My settings for Live Search are "GPS COM4".
In order for TomTom to work, you first have to get your GPS location in Live Search, then launch TomTom, and then TomTom will work fine as if you had an external GPS.
My TomTom settings are "NMEA GPS receiver" then "com 4" then baud is "9600".
These are the steps i took to get GPS working with the new ROM update using the internal GPS. Havent been able to test the Rev A yet. But it seems everybody is stating that is working fine, but only some were able to get GPS working.
Hopefully this will help you all to get GPS working with the new ROM. W/o me doing these steps, I wasnt able to get GPS working. Also please note that I had to leave my house for it to work. With my Bluetooth GPS receiver I could get a location in live search or Tomtom w/o leaving the house. But for the internal GPS, i had to leave the house.
Have you tried with google maps. For some reason i can get GPS signal in my house with google, but not with live. Also, under the GPS hardware, does yours say none, and baud 9600 or 4800?
Edit:
Never mind, I got it working, live just connected in my house. I have baud set to 4800, don't think it really matters. (anyone know what baud is anyway, and what the best settings are?). I wish there was a way to do this without live though.
baud is just another word for bits per second, its the connection speed of the hardware, since its internal it probably wouldnt make much of a differnce

I have everything working but tom tom 6. It says no GPS device what gives? Do you have to have Live search running in the background for tom tom to work. I close Live Search after aquiring five satellites then launch tom tom 6 and all I get is no GPS device. hehe I know this is a beta and not a release rom. I have no Idea how people can aquire a satellite in their home. Shesh I have a huge solarium and still have to go outside.
what do u mean you get five satellites? Also to answer your question, what i do is after getting the GPS fixture in Live Search, I just click start and go to Tom Tom, without doing anything to live search. It seems to close automatically when I open Tom Tom.
Does anyone know if the GPS signal comes via the Sprint towers or is my phone communicating directly with the satellites in the sky? I ask because getting a signal inside my house seems unreal.
GPS signals come from satellites which is why the signal degrades when you move inside, eventually becoming nonexistent or unreal.
When someone says they are getting five satellites it means that is how many signals their device is receiving and using to triangulate its position. It requires at least four satellite signals to triangulate a current position and the more signals it can pick up on the more accurate the triangulation.
Ks.
when i said "unreal" i meant unbelievable i have a globalsat BT308 (which is kind of old, i bought it in 2000 or 2001) and theres no way i would ever get a signal inside.
so even if i go out of sprint reception area i can still communicate with the satellites right?
For some reason I always have to setup the GPS device in TomTom. It works but as soon as I close TomTom it looses the GPS settings. Then I have to run through the setup again...
Anyone else having the same issue?
My GPS wasn't working at all until I turned on GPS location under the phone menu. Location Settings under services.
Once I turned that on my GPS started picking up satellites with in 5 seconds sitting in my house.
Does Anybody know how to get the GPS to work with iGo 2006? I am having no luck at all getting iGo to recognize the GPS device.
TomTom appears to have a bug where it does not see the port windows gps port sharing is showing because the hardware port is set to none (I think it's actually com1 for the real hardware). As a result until something OPENS the port for tomtom, it's unable to attach to it. Until this is fixed you have to launch some other program that does work first and leave it open for tomtom to open the port.

Theoretically, you should be able to get a GPS signal anywhere in the world.

I understand that they can selectively disable regions now. (read about it in the paper when they unfogged the signals) so conceivably,we wouldn't be able to use our moguls in iraq or afganistan.

I think what they do is place devices selectively in those locations that send out false GPS signals to confuse the NAV devices. (probably from ground based stations or on moving convoys that are trying to NOT be detected)

Has anyone gotten Garmin Mobile XT to work with the internal GPS?
I am going to hold off on Flashing and give DCD some time to mature the release since I already have a G10 bluetooth reciever and have no issues but it would be nice to be able to leave that in my car and use internal when I'm not in my own car.
As far as i know...these are govt sats that are "open to the publuc." In a state of emergency or other situation, they can be blocked or certain areas can be blocked so only, say, certain govts/military could use them. This was the only way the us govt was willing and able to let the gen pop use the sats.
I just bought a touch pro from Bell, and I am VERY UNHAPPY with the lies their sales people have told me.
I was told "Get the unlimited data plan". That was to give me access to everything on thier phone. I did.
But unless I pay extra for the lifve tv feed, I cannot use that. Worse, the GPS is lockedc, so unless I use their NAV system, at 10.00 /month, I cannot use the GPS either.
Is there a way to unlock the GPS, so I can use TomTom, AmazeGPS, google, etc.
Thanks
I just purchased a HTC Touch Pro and the GPS works fine with Google Maps. I am not paying Bell $10 a month for turn by turn GPS software... that is criminal...
When I used goggle, my phone could not get a gps lock, how did you do that?
I installed Google Maps then from the 'menu' I click 'use gps' and it works... I did not need to install anything else to get this to work, gps worked right out of the box from bell... They also have the "GPSNAV" software that is a pay as you go or $10 a month...
That is interesting that you can get a GPS signal, I cannot.
Sorry I could not be of more help... maybe talk to Bell? I understood when I purchased my phoner that the GPS would still function, just that the turn by turn Nav software was extra $$... and that is what I got... I did not have to configure anything to get the gps to work on Google Maps
Touch Pro GPS
ya I bought a touch pro from Bell, Google Maps work but I can't seem to get any sort of communication without Google Maps.. I don't think GoogMaps even use your GPS data, I think it gives you a location based on the cell towers..
I want to unlock my TP GPS capability..

rk, i think your doing something wrong..
let me explain.
i am also a bell customer, and bought one of the first TP they had.
that being said...
yes they did tell me telenav worked with the phone.
only to find out it wasnt even ready for touch pro via bell yet.
so i grabbed garmin XT, wont say how or where... and loaded it.
never had a problem using it. and this was before telenav even worked for the touch pro.
also running is gps spot
ellicasoft gps utilities,
google maps,
well hell there hasnt been anything gps i couldnt use.
and that was before i flashed my rom.
there is a gps unlocker on modaco.. google it.
but honestly gps was never locked for me.
now this could also be because i got it BEFORE they locked it.
but again im certain the modaco fix will work.
also, if google maps works, then your gps isnt locked to telenav.
try some other programs, simple gps progs just to see if they work.
also you may simply have a faulty device.
heres something interesting, im in the basement of my house...
i have a small 12 x 12 window.. so thats not going to work for line of site.
i can fire up garmin xt and it will grab signal, from my basement.
i also dont know if gps quick fix tool helps with that, but i have it set to auto download
try some of those tricks, also try and see if you can swap out your device.
again, i have used gps tuner, run gps, garmin, tom tom, ellicasoft, hell even trackr.eu works.
other gps apps
I tried using mapopolis, I was using it on my older wm5 device so I tried it with my bell TP only to find I couldn't get it to fix at all. google maps and amaze gps worked, they however use data.. I'm lookin for something I can use thats preloaded or get the old mapopolis working somehow
thanks

Smartphonetracker is a nice free app....it uses Google maps to locate....brings it right to the house view...(street view)
I second Smartphonetracker. It works great
so i just dl the smartphone tracker..... still kinda noob
1. when i check the SMS box it says #, thats my phone # right????
2. i put my email in and so does that mean i send a email to that address and it tells me my phones location???
just tryin to figure how this thing works
The sms box is phone you want the sms/ google map link sent to. If you leave the box blank it will send and sms to the phone that sent the sms to activate smartphonetracker on your phone, you click on the link, and it will open the phones bowser in google maps, and show you where your phone is.
The email location, is an email address that you want SPT to send the google maps link to. You will get an email from your phone with a google maps link, open it, and it will show you where your phone is.
Hope that helps
This application is fasinating! I really like Smartphonetracker! I'll sneak it on my friends sites and track them like the government!
i am actually trying sprite terminator now, ill see how it works for this week and then ill try smartphonetracker next week and compare
ill post the results

Has anybody used SmartPhoneTracker on a verizon phone with bored's GPS fix? My rom has the fix and GPS works very well using google maps and live search, but this program won't pick up the GPS (continuously says initializing GPS).
Thanks.
Anyone know why I get "Initializing GPS" for Smartphonetracker and it never gets past 0/1? I installed it to internal memory. GPS and data connections are on. I've got good signal. I'm running version 3.5 of windows .net
If I click "Send now" it says GPS not available. It's a Sprint Touch Pro with the standard rom.
Nevermind. Once I got out of my office building for lunch it worked. Must not have been able to acquire my position from inside.

now just if it was able to get A-GPS position(triangulate). I know it's not accurate as actual GPS position, but atleast it works inside buildings.
I think best would be two triggers, one to initialize A-GPS and second one to initialize actual GPS. As the GPS message does not get sent until phone gets GPS signal, it would be good to send A-GPS signal to get the proximity of the phone. Once the phone has GPS signal, it would provide exact location. This way if someone stole your phone, you would know the approximate location, and then just wait and get the actual position from the GPS and track that #@$#))#@$ down.
there may be a better way, but thats what i've thought about.
well, since starting this thread i settled on sprite terminator its been working great
tested it a couple of times and it works great!

RemoteTracker works very well on my Verizon Touch Pro with bored's GPS fix.
Guys this is great!!! Thanks a lot for this post!!!
I can't believe that nobody's brought up Flexilis. It's free and it does everything from GPS Remote lookup of device to remote alarm initiation(beeps for 5 mins and the person with the device can't do a damn thing to silence it, even if they power off the phone then when they power it on again it'll beep again for the remaining balance of the 5 mins), and remote wipe abilities.
Hi Guys,
I've been combing through this site and PPCGeeks for a week now with no success, so I though I ask. I can not get my GPS to work, I'm beginning to think that this phone (VZW Touch Pro) doesn't come with a GPS.
This is what I tried so far. I made sure my GPS setting is set to ON in the phone settings. QuickGPS downloaded the satellite list, installed and ran HTC GPS Tool per the instructions loadshadowz. I've downloaded and install PHM Registry Editor and edited my registry files. I've also downloaded and installed bored's GPS fix. Also read that someone had luck using com3 instead of 4, so I tried coms0-5 with no luck.
I flash my phone with Mighty ROM 5.
Thanks

Here is another poor soul.
I did the Verizon MR1 (2) update, bought an external GPS receiver, and NO GPS. It appears that I am not getting the bluetooth receiver to pair up with my Touch Pro and I don't see any GPS on Google Maps except when my data connection is running. I keep shutting it off, but it comes back on.
Am I doing something wrong? If so, could someone tell me what it is and how to correct it.
Thanks
After applying GPS Fix for Verizon, you can use internal GPS. No need to buy external one. Verizon locked it out by software means and the receiver itself is inside the phone. You just have to unlock it by that fix and then download GoogleMaps for Windows Mobile device. If it shows you that version for your phone is not available the go to m.google.com using PC Computer and download generic Windows Mobile cab file. Seems like google is unaware that Verizon unlocked GPS receiver and still thinks it's incompatible. Probably because our (Verizon) phones introduce themselves as Raph500 instead of Raph800 as all other TPs.
I myself downloaded MR1 V2.0 release from here and guarantee it works. Just backup your contacts etc since this is complete ROM from Verizon so you WILL loose everything that is on the phone (Storage Card is safe and won't be erased).
Let me know
Just got myself a TG01 Upgrading from my old SPV M700 I have installed Co Pilot on my new phone bot it cant find the GPS Signal on it
Google Maps works spot on
Any Idea what port it uses?
Its not COM 9 As i would expect it to be?

Hi, i have almost the same problem i install difretn program on my TG01 i i have problem because hi cannot found a gps why
go here http://www.modaco.com/content/toshiba-tg01-tg01-modaco-com/290500/tom-tom-on-tg01/
it's been dealt with few times
I'm using gps gate for memory maps on my tg01, works a treat.
For most of these programs, if there is an option for what driver/source, choose intermediate driver, other than that, it should work without gps gate
for those that use igo8 as navigation software, to be recognized the gps receiver, just add the following lines in sys.txt:
[gps]
source="virtserial"

i found that gpsgate works like a charm as well
sadly its not freeware but you can try it out, it has a trial version
I am using NDrive .. and loving it ... so much nicer than the TomTom and Garmin.
GPSGate does work but there is another issue with the GPS on this device where it will lose the signal after a period of time and then sit there and reconnect. It does still work but intermittently disconnects and then reconnects. Apparently the same thing happens when using Garmin which actually doesnt need GPSGate, so nothing to do with the application but more to do with the hardware.
Be nice if this gets fixed when the next update comes out.
Won't hold my breath though.

OK then ...
Where precisely on xda-developers has the issue of the TG01 intermittently losing its GPS connection been discussed?
It is not GPSGATE causing this problem. I believe the problem lies in loosing reception for a second. Without a valid phone signal, the GPS fails to work.
Everytime I lost GPS, I also lost phone reception....
Basically what I think happens is this, somewhere in the software, if the phone signal is lost, the A-GPS is lost, the proper GPS chipset is shutdown too, which throws the GPS program.
Then the phone signal comes back, A-GPS gets a fix and boots the proper GPS up.
My idea is to disable the A-GPS as its useless anyway and get it working on a traditional way. GPS chipset only.
i don't use A-GPS and I still have this problem.

A-GPS comes on automatically alongside with the proper GPS. You cannot specify it.
I have noticed that I loose signal when the GPS is running otherwise it's fine
I hope Toshiba fix this soon, it does get annoying!!

Not on the TG01, which is the problem, when the phone is in flight mode (or no sim card) the GPS fails to work! Which makes me question if A-GPS which works through the cellular network has something to do with all the problems......
