i <3 my 6800 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

so going through all of these threads, theres a lot of mixed emotions about certain roms and certain phones. well i know for a fact that i'm not the only one who is 100% stoked about how bomb their phone is. so i decided to start a thread where we can talk about our perfect setups
dcd 3.0.4
radio 3.35.04
i know everyone loves the free apps, but realistically, the best apps arent free. and even more realistically, there are very easy ways to make them free, if you know what i'm sayin.

i dont think i could dream of a nicer setup on my xv6800. i lalalalove my phone.

Check out this link, here is where my phone is currently. Simple and easy to navigate to everything.

im surprised with all that on your today screen, that you don't have 90% or so of your RAM used up..
No battery issues even with GPS on? wow..
I have a titan too, I like to keep things simple
Mobile Shell and some other apps, most probably 10 but no more

surprisingly enough, my Today screen isn't all that taxing on my RAM. the only thing that i wish could a be a little smoother is my SMS. if i have 6 or 7 texts coming through at the same time it gets really bogged down and i get so frustrated. Currently, with everything running, i have about 17 mb of free ram. Not an ideal level, but everything runs as smoothly as if i boot in safe mode. I just started using BT, and i thought that it would kill my battery because of everything else that I'm running, there was actually no noticeable change at all in my battery life. with BT running all day and 100% brightness, my phone went 12 hours and dropped 80%. battery life is probably a little relative, but being able to go around 15hours with no power save options before my battery drains is pretty damn good in my book.

immediately after soft reset - 16.64 mb free, so i'm using about 65%. not ideal, but not enough to cause any problems.

I love my xv6800 too. It's the best phone on Verizon by far.
Obviously, most of us wish the Tilt or some equal variant was available...but whatever, we gotta deal with being the bastard child of CDMA carriers who always get the shaft by phone developers.

true that...

Verizon is a /win for service but a /suck for phone selection and UPDATE availability. I swear they could give 2 ****s about their PDA community. I would love to switch over to the Sprint but service is horrid here in central ohio... Would be nice to get that cheap $30/month plan too but what's the point if you get 0 bars?
I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune when the Diamond is available from Sprint or something first. Verizon will just be realizing a new phone was released in about 2010 when it's already obsolete.
Oh sorry.. didn't mean to derail your thread with Verizon rants

[Q] soon to be TB owner.

A couple noob questions coming from an ex X2 owner.
First : tethering
while using the tethering apps provided by mother google from code.google.com, does the TB tether its 4G or 3G? I did a search found no solid answer.
Second :Rooting
I'm coming from an X2 and to root it is simpler than changing my baby's stinky diapers. Is there an "easier" rooting method? Possibly one that doesn't require a computer?
Third:Battery
Coming from the X2 with an extended battery I get maybe 10 hours. I've read from numerous threads that the TB has a bad battle life if on 4g. This isn't a complaint from but just wondering which extended battery works best, HTC, seidio, etc?

No. Gaining S-off and permaroot require you to use adb. Follow either the Easyroot or step by step guides here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013013
It really isn't as hard as it may seem.
Thanks for the quick reply. Super happy about the first answer but bummed about the second cuz I can't tether without root lol

all you need is about an hour in front of a computer to root. Once done, you can do everything else from the bolt.
Battery life is about 4 hours for me. I keep 2 extra batteries charged and with me.

That sucks lol
Ok, so I need a noob root how to. i'm on SW v 1.13.605.7 but in the one click method it says for "A Thunderbolt running 605.6 or 605.9 Firmware".
As far as the battery goes, its not that bad for me. I use green power (market app for free).
Basiclly what it does is shuts the data on your phone off when you turn the screen off, and back on when you unlock your screen. You can also set it to turn the data on say every hour for say 1minute to sync things, then shuts it back off. It's a lot simpler to use than juice defender, and helps my battey life a lot.
Also, after you root, install setcpu and make a profile to underclock when the screen is off.
With these apps I get a full day out of one charge with moderate usage (texts, calls, some YouTube, some music, social apps, etc)
It might also be a good investment to buy a car charger, and they have extended batteries for the tbolt as well.
As far as rooting goes, its not hard. Follow the directions carefully and you'll be golden.
There is also a one click script floating out there. You still have to have adb set up though. All the script really does is type for you.

Easyroot + S-off was ballin for me personally. Easier than watchin porn. I dont know if it still works on the latest OTA, but I know the one before that it worked perfect.
Battery? Synergy with everything syncing on wifi all day and no battery enhancers. Did I meantion STOCK 1400 mah battery? I have a total of four batteries, but Ive only needed a max of two as of late.

Rooting takes anywhere from 20-60 minutes, however thats the easy part. Finding and setting up the roms to your liking...well, Ive had a Bolt since release day and my phones still not 100% setup. XD
4G & 3G are tetherable
No, you need a computer
Extended 2750 OEM is your best bet, if tour in a good 4G area your battery will be fine

Same here. I routinely got 16-20 hrs with stock battery on Gingeritis and I'm getting at least that long on Synergy (4G always enabled & no battery enhancers). I have an extra OEM battery that I take when I go out, but I rarely need it.
If you can copy+paste, you can root a Tbolt. It's really that simple.

Optomizing Battery

Hi,
Lets start this first, Im Dumb. Plain and simple. I know there are a lot of threads about batteries but its mostly people whining about it. All im looking to know is am i getting the right amount compared to some of you guys? and am i set up to even know how my battery is doing.
Im on the UCLE5 Goldie rom (Love IT).
i had a 20 minute phone call and thats it hadnt really used it since this morning. Took it off the charger. 20 min phone call, and about 3.5 hours later im at like 83%. Is that sound about right to you guys? I have chargers at my desk and in my car so im never far from power. But i would love to know how im doing.
Lets say that its not up to par. What steps should i take to maybe find out whats causing a problem should there be one? I have always read that task killer programs are actually not that big of a deal on the android platform.. im not sure if thats true or not but i have tried to research and it seems to be a consensus around it.
Please let me know what ya all think and thank you for all your help and patience in reading a topic i am sure you are all very tired of.

I'm on Electron73's UCLF5 stock ROM with a few mods and that seems about right.
I've found task killing apps to actually HURT my battery life. The reason is, everytime they kill a task that autostarts, it starts right back up. This uses processor power and, therefore, battery.
I would recommend trying out Battery Monitor Widget on the Play store. It's by 3C. There is a free version and a pro version. I used the free version for about a month and then bought the pro version. It will give you some great insight as far as your battery life goes.

Alright, so, no, that sounds TERRIBLE going from full to 83% in 4 hours with only a 20 minute phone call.
Im on stock, unrooted and (having just tested), I go from 100 to 96% after a 20 minute call.
So, one of three things are happening here.
1. Your phone isnt deep sleeping
Solution: cpuspy. There are instructions for how to set it up and use it, since I have never used it, I cant help you here.
2. Radios (GPS, Cellular Data, Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC)
Manually turn them off or use a tool to automate this. There are a number of them out there, Juice Defender, AutomateIt, or my personal choice, Tasker (listed in order of ease of use but least features/functionality to most difficult to use but has most features/functionality).
Personally, I dont think your radios would be the problem, but nonetheless, they are something that if you can control their use, can save you some battery.
3. Rogue apps
This is absolutely the most tricky one to figure out.
Option 1: Start by installing Titanium Backup from the market and do a backup of all USER apps (copy the backups to your PC before proceeding!!). Then you should do is a factory reset (Settings->Privacy), then install cpuspy, battery monitor widget pro (by 3C), and Titanium Backup from the market and use Titanium to restore only the bare minimum apps you need on your phone to survive (in other words, install only what you need, NOT what you might need). Slowly add apps (again, that you actually use) and monitor the phone. I usually will add 5 at a time, if I notice a significant battery drain after adding five, its easier to determine the potential cause.
Option 2: Now, since the above is an absolute *****, another option that might appeal is a little app called Autostarts. Launch it and as soon as it is done loading, hit your menu button and look for an option to 'Group by Application'. It might also not be a bad idea to enable the 'Hide System Apps' option unless you know what you are doing'. Once you have done this, start at the top of the list and disable EVERY condition that an app has listed under it unless one of the following is true:
1. The app has a widget THAT YOU USE (if you dont use the widget portion, then this is not applicable).
2. The app has a scheduled task to perform under certain conditions or at certain times (ie. podcast client that updates your RSS feeds at a scheduled time, or Juice Defender which disables services, Dropbox which might sync your pictures if you have it configured this way).
Be aggressive WITH USER APPS. Even apps like Google Maps have absolutely NO REASON to be running in the background.
I would NOT touch system apps unless you know what you are doing. Unfortunately, I am not familar with ICS on the Note and what apps it considers a system app, I was very delicate with these, only disabling things like Gallery, Maps (on the Captivate, Maps was considered a system app), & Music.
4. Non-updated apps
Lastly, I cannot tell you how stupid people are about updating their apps. Obviosuly, it isnt applicable to everyone but to give you an idea, my sister handed me her phone and it had 47 app updates. Just last night, I looked at one of our company phones and it had 33 app updates and a system update.
Samsung is SUPER terrible about linking their apps to the market correctly. Launch Titanium Backup and hit the menu button, under settings and I think More, you will find an option to link apps to the market (it might be called market doctor, I havent used TB in a long time). This will make a number of stock apps show up under your list of installed apps when you open the market and allow you to easily hit the update all button without having to manually search for every app you have installed on your phone manually, one by one.
App updates are extremely important, often times, security vulnerabilities and performance improvements are made (this might include battery life improvements). There are a number of ways to have your apps automatically update if you dont want to manually do it (me personally, I like to know what changes came to each app).
I also don't think my phone's battery is up to par with most of you on this forum.
I just bought an i717 from Telus and recently got the battery replaced because i was getting about 2-3 hours (which was unbelievable). So i got this new battery and tested it out for the past 2 weeks and as i'm writing this post, i'm currently sitting at 12% with 12h 7m on battery with only 1h 45m 'screen on' time. Screen is at the top of the list with 32% and Web second with only 12m CPU total.
Any of this sound strange to you guys? I constantly find my phone overheating when the display is on. I even have my radios being controlled with Easy Battery Saver and checked for partial wakelocks with the audio output being at the top.
Could it be my battery or do i have a faulty display?
Ok this is what i have done so far...
All apps were up to date
I turned off bluetooth.. GPS.. and Wifi (I did have these on all the time) and only turn those on when i need then
i used cpuspy and you are right it spends all its time at 380 mhz never going into deep sleep.
how do i determine what is keeping it from deep sleep?
@HVZY- What is your display setting at? Are you running gingerbread? How long have you had the phone for?

Any bugs you want HTC to know about?

hey guys, so some of you look familiar from the Rezound forums, good to see ya! I finally got a DNA and gave my rezound to my older brother for xmas, and much like last year, i've noticed a couple of bugs. the good thing is, though, that i was in touch with HTC tech support last year, where i actually spoke to them over the phone a few times over some bugs we had with the rezound. after noticing a few, i decided to open my old claim and talk with the same rep who i dealt with last year, as he was very knowledgeable and a great guy overall!
so a few bugs i've noticed so far:
1.) the audio/video delay lag, where in every video player, including youtube, audio lags behind video (thanks milan, i forgot which one it was lol)
2.) the home button lag much like the s3 with s-voice enabled
3.) not much of a bug, but for some stupid reason HTC enabled "auto enhance" on the camera by default! you can't turn it off. this was something big wtih the rezound that the number one thing we urged users who asked how to get good pics was to turn auto enhance off. it really softens the image and makes it look bad in low light, IMO. also, they made auto focus on by default and you can't switch it. i reported this, and he confirmed that it's just part of the software, but they do value our feedback, and i know for a fact this guy does, as the bug with audio recording on the rezound WAS fixed when 4.0 was OTA'd to it.
so i brought both of these up with them, and they're looking into it, which is great. anyone have any bugs they notice? i keep forgetting the little ones when it's time to write a reply to HTC, so it would be good to get them in here.
HTC def. does listen to us, guys.
either way, i LOVE this phone. so snappy, and has an amazing screen and form factor to it! the camera is great, but you just have to play around with the options to get a great pic. the audio sounds great with the beats as well. i've yet to get a wireless charger, but i think i'm going to start looking around for it.
great to be a part of the new community, guys!
When I power on my screen & drag down my notification bar to select a text it sends me to the first text from that person. This does not happen every time, but often enough.

That looks like you could have a rogue app or something. I've never seen mine above 25. And its at 11 right now.

The worst part is since I'm not rooted, I would have to go through and figure it out by uninstalling them or disabling them one by one. I don't see how I have a rogue app.
I can't even figure out where to start looking. Ughhhh.
Really to be honest at close to 5 hrs screen on time I will get 12 hours total. Is your phone 100% stock or do you have any maybe non kosher pirated apps going on that might not show up in that app. Kernel is still software related and I'm not understanding why yours is so out if wack with everybody else. You have complained about this in several threads now.

dude, you've got something wacky going on. my kernel is never above like 17% and DEF doesn't keep it awake anywhere near that long, even after a 14 hour day...

HTC M9 disassembled
Just got mine. Any questions?
Hi all. So I just picked up my AT&T HTC One M9. If anyone has any questions about anything please let me know. Ill be happy to try to help.
It is currently stock S-On and bootloader locked and I am going to keep it that way for now but if there is anything you would like to know just ask.
Ok so a few things I have noticed after using it for about an hour.
1. It does not get hot.....it is actually much cooler than the laptop I am currently using.
2. I love the look and feel of the HTC keyboard but it doesn't change im to I'm.......I hate that!
3. There are a ton of available themes. They all say free, so I assume that in the future some will actually cost money.
4. It is definitely not as slick as the M8.
5. The camera hump on the back is perfectly placed to give a bit of leverage in holding it.
6. The placement of the power button sucks, I always hit the volume thinking it is the power button, even though the power button is textured.
7. LAG......NONE, ZERO, ZILCH. Smoothest phone I have EVER used.
8. There is a personalization option to keep the soft buttons hidden!!!
From where?
I'm confused if its available now online or if its just a pre order. And if it is available now I would rather pick it up in stores so I could have it faster.
Bought it from a guy that got it at the pre launch event in Los Angeles the other day.
What's the Antutu score? Does it get hot when you run the Antutu benchmark?
One for the long run: how does the battery life hold up, and in particular: what SOT are you getting out of it?
It did get a little warmer while running the benchmark. But no where near enough to be uncomfortable.
Not sure if the OP got the unlocked version, but does it support AT&T LTE?
No sorry mine is the AT&T version so no way to test that. I would assume so though.
ohhhh its amazing i will try it.
A reviewer complained about the device getting hot while watching videos. Can you confirm?
Also I thought the software was detecting benchmark apps and putting the chip at 100% when running them. All other times the chip is throttled. Do you think that is the case?
I can't decide on the M9 or the S6 that are branded by ATT as I'm just going to renew my contract for 2 years. I think with the M9 on ATT you will be able to root, unlock the bootloader, etc. An ATT S6 won't be able to do any of that from the past ATT Galaxys. Does that seem about right?

I can't tell if it is detecting benchmarks but the phone is lightning fast all the time. I did run the GPS yesterday for about an hour straight with the screen on and the phone definitely got hot. Not to hot to hold but enough to tell it was hot.
I will say after a couple of days use the battery seems pretty bad. I can't tell screen on time because I can't find it in the settings, but it will not come close to a full day on a single charge with heavy use. Probably close to 6-7 hours of heavy usage in my opinion.

Like I said there is no way to see screen on time, maybe there is some special app tat will do it but it has been removed from the system settings.

everybody usually uses gsam battery monitor on the htc one m8 and it gives you all the details. just screenshot the main page when you download it.
This is pretty light/average usage, also left off the charger overnight.

So the phone sleeps pretty well? What's the drain over night?

Probably the excitement of being out of the box:laugh:

Help me fix this up for my kids to learn on?

I was handed an old Touchpad to see if I could get it working for my kids' learning apps. We're in quarantine from the Corona virus here in upstate NY and it looks like I won't have an income for a while, so I'd like to see if I could make this work.
The previous owner doesn't recall what he did, but I'm greeted with this menu upon boot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
The Lineage option boots into a Nougat 7.1 that is SUPER LAGGY. Like, I went open a blank browser (no tabs open), and it sometimes can take 30 seconds for the keyboard to appear. And pressing the circle home button can take 5-10 seconds to respond as well. Other times apps just won't load unless I reboot first. It makes using any kind of interactive learning game downright impossible. The evervolv option straight up doesn't work. I'm not even sure why it is there and the previous owner doesn't remember why it is there or how it got there either.
I'm thinking I should just start with a different rom. But I'm not clear on how this dual-boot setup works or if I'll mess something up just flashing in twrp. Like, if I flash a rom in twrp, which partition will it be flashing to? And for that matter, how do I remove one that doesn't work? I'm new to touchpad in general. Someone suggested just going back to stock WebOS and starting over from there but that seems like more unnecessary work if I already have twrp installed and running, right? Suggestions?
So do you know your way around how to reset and install a new Rom using J.C. Sullin's TouchPad Toolbox?
I would suggest reading up on using TPTB. Download the required files and install his Rom, CM11. It was the best, most stable and functional Rom made for the TouchPad. Even the camera works. I know you want to set it up for your kids and I think you will have the best luck with Sullin's CM11. I've seen you trying to use the method by HPTouchPad and are having problems with it. If you ask him about my suggestions, you will find out he had a white hot hate for me because I have questioned and challenged him ever since he started that and several other threads. He claims everything he creates works perfectly when in fact it doesn't. His method is interesting, but if you question anything he says, he goes out of his way to attack and cast dispersion's on you.
If you get your TP setup and can download the apps you want for your kid to use and working OK, I'll tell you about what I did on two TP's I own that I feel gets me the best performance and stability. You may even be happy enough with CM11 that you won't even want to mess with my idea. Just remember, if HPTouchPad finds out you are talking to me, he will probably go ballistic.
If you have the time, read thru that thread and you will see what I am talking about. If you notice towards the end that he is starting to waver on what he suggests you should install. Earlier in the thread, he claims that you can load and run anything including the Super version of Gapps which is huge. And any of the various Roms he has modified and tweaked. It's nothing wrong with his work, it's all the fault of Gapps, ads and weather apps. Oh, and you absolutely must keep your TP charging at all times, that's because his stuff just drains the battery quickly. Note, TouchPads do not like to have the battery drained down to low levels or to the point where the tablet automatically shuts down. It's a proven fact that could cause problems on the TP, so you want to keep an eye on the battery level and I recommend not letting it go below 20%.
With Sullin's CM11, I can leave my tables off charge and when asleep, will last for days. Good Luck and stay away from that nasty virus.

Depending what you intend to do with the touchpad each person has their own opinion about what works for them. I found the following combination works best for my 16gb tablet. I use it for youtube, hulu, and surfing the web. I also have this on my 32gb one but it's got some games for the kids. The battery drain thing is a problem but not a major issue for me. Only thing that annoys me is if the battery is too drained to get it to boot up. I have to hold the power and the home key (I think) to get it to boot up otherwise plugging it in does do a thing.

@dizzymon Your are an example of how a discarded old device found on an ewaste bin was brought back to be useful again, thanks to all the hard work of many developers that dedicated their time to port Android to the HP Touchpad:
From your post dated December 6 of 2019:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81116701&postcount=183
""My 32GB runs pretty good but my 16GB one that I found in the ewaste bin at work runs like garbage. I will toss it soon."
The Tablet enhance performance with my Kernel settings provided to all the ROM are as follow:
Makes the Tablet run like a Desktop computer or a Laptop: ( not like phone or a mobile device )
A swap partition ( provides the use of more memory )
Remove all the power restrictions to slow the CPU to maximize battery.
Make the CPU works at it's highest frequency only when need it and be stable.
Allocate the full 1 GB of RAM ( HPT_MaXtreme Kernel only )
This is the universal rule that applies to anything.
( More power or energy = faster speed )
( Less power or energy = slower speed )
Regarding the battery drain:
The Tablet is extremely optimize for streaming media:
The original ROM stocks provide no more than 2 MB of buffer, with my Kernel settings is 6 MB of buffer and can be setup even higher!
With my kernel settings the Tablet can stream HD 1080 24/7 with no issues.
That extra Power means more electricity, there is no way around it and the reason that I always say keep the Tablet charging at all time, even while streaming if allows.
To really know the health condition ( capacity ) of the battery do the following:
open a command prompt or terminal on a PC with the novacom driver an enter:
novacom -t open tty://
then
battery status
Example:
[email protected]:~$ novacom -t open tty://
battery status
battery present
voltage: 4113840
percentage: 100
current: -861562
capacity: 6483200
] a6 version
The capacity is the true battery energy :
To get all details about it go to this guide:
