After some tests, I've seen that the unique way to use an alternative program to view SMSes, even from "All messages" on Manila2D, is to replace tmail.exe... but after that some things no more work well, such email, activesync, etc.
I decided then to build a little HiJack to put over the original tmail.exe, that when we try to view SMSes it executes a link, while for ohter operations starts the original one.
tmail_hijack_1_0_0_0
Use:
1. make a copy of \windows\tmail.exe in \windows\tmailm.exe
2. overwrite the old tmail.exe with the new one
3. create in the \windows directory a link to the program we want to use for the SMSes view, and name it tmailsms.lnk
if everythink is right, when you press on "All messages" the new program will open up, while all the rest remains as is

Could You please throw in some screenshots? You know that a picture is always worth more than a thousand words.
worked for me (using vito sms-chat) but is there a way to have it open the sms app when i click on the message in manilla (it still goes to tmail)?

You are right... I hope that somebody find a way do do it ... I created a copy by extracting it from the ROM image with Ervius kitchen (or any other kitchen able to make a dump)
Try closing tmail.exe using a Task manager before overwriting it with Resco Explorer or total Commander.

Sorry, have not enought time lately... to replace tmail.exe you have to rename it to whatever you want, and only after reboot you can delete the renamed copy... but place the new tmail.exe right after you renamed the old one, BEFORE reboot the device, otherwise a new protected copy of the old one comes out.

No, its not the same: vjbrisk starts the program you linked, stop. This starts the program you linked OR the old one, based on the parameters it receives.
But, there are some situations on reboot that starts tmail with the same parameter (-service "SMS") and load the linked program on reboot (unwanted) but I have no time to check if its solvable.

Hey mate I cannot rename mine for some reason, it is checked as in rom in Total Commander and if I try rename it its either access denied or tmail.exe will just revert back straight after, does anyone know how I can remove this from a ROM or make it change its name as I have tried everything bar the latter? Thanks!

Okay I managed to resolve my problem, if anybody is wondering how, get Total commander and rename Tmail.exe (even if the file doesn't rename) get the Vijay program (this Tmail didn't work due to not being able to get the name changed) then drag the Vijay program into the Windows folder. From there rename it to tmail.exe (so know you have two) then reset the device. From there then edit the .lnk's and you now have SMS chat for your SMS (and messaging which this program can fix if anybody can change it).
hi!
i am currently using an HTC HD2- ROM version: 1.72.206.3 (86372) WWE
Radio version: 2.07.51.22_2
as you can see i have made no changes to the software since i got it.
i have tried to load in a new radio and a new rom- Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 and
Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V3.0_FINAL... but when i go to load them usoing the update utility i get the message in the image.
thanks, harry.
Hi
From the looks of it, the filename might be incorrect or in the wrong location.
First, put the update utility file(s) in a folder along with the radio file that you want to use. Rename the radio file to ruu_signed.nbh (exactly like that). The try run the update - it should work.
If you follow the above instructions for your ROM file (Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V3.0_FINAL... ) then that should work too! Make sure you rename it as I have said above.
PS you can only update the Radio OR the ROM not both at the same time (as far as I know), so do one after the other.
Latz
Thanks for your reply. i done what you said, but am now getting "ERROR [238] : file read" :S
any ideas?
thanks, harry
Couple of things here
1) did you hardspl the deivce yet?
2) did you try and mount the files with a cd image mounter?
If you haven't done 1 then you can't flash anything that isn't a stock rom and if you did 2 you'll probably want to redownload the files. Also ensure that the path to the file doesn't exceed 256 characters. Some programs still have issues with really long file names
in post 1 that long filename, you didn't show the file extension, you are unzipping the downloaded file? (assuming it comes zipped, most do, zip, rar, 7z file extensions all need unpacking.
you shouldn't actually need to rename the file ruu signed, and you can't have two rom/radio .nbh files in the same folder.

Start with your phone off, hold the volume down Button and power the phone on. If the multi colored screen says HSPL on it, you should be able to flash just fine.

But another question:My purpose is to use ResourceHacker to chang BMP for

"shellres.192.dll" from \windows\ to \Storage Card\, then I just copy it back to
windows,(didn't do anything else),I find the "Setting" panel has been
changed,the three sub-panels: Personal,system,connections, missed!
I don't know why. Please help me,if can. Thanks!!!
rather than just copy it back into windows, make the file into a cab that installs it to windows. just copying files over rom files doesn't usually work.

i cannot get this to work. my cygwin will not open. it flashes a command prompot box for a split second each time i try to open the shortcut.
any other ways to deodex the tb without using android kitchen? i just cant get it to go smoothly. i remember using (incorrectly) a program similar to this when playing around with my droidx.
Apktool and something else...much more involved. I will let you know when i find the info
Smali/baksmali. But i think the kitchen is the easiest and quickest way to deodex your own rom....such a useful tool imo

You didn't install it correctly.
The install defaults to the unzipped folder. You need the folder inside the unzipped folder.
Run the install again, and this time when it wants the path to the packages, browse to the folder inside the folder you unzipped to.
The folder inside the unzipped folder has the same name..... cygwin_packages

so if the kitchen starts and seemingly works, why cant it pick up on these files

having the android files doesnt matter if the kitchen works or not. you will have to import the android files while in the kitchen.
not really sure how else to go about this, never done it this way, maybe someone else can chime in.

yea i appreciate the help anyway. im going to try with the leaked stock package and see how that goes
Is your Home folder in the Cygwin folder?
In your Home folder is there another folder with your name on it?
That's where Kitchen goes.
Start Cygwin from the batch file in the Cygwin folder, cd to Kitchen, then enter the ./menu command
I put my system.img and boot.img from a nandroid backup i made in the original update_folder and it worked perfectly.

I MADE THIS THREAD A FEW MONTHS AGO, DIDN'T GET THE ANSWER!! PLEASE HELP!
So, my brother backed up my Samsung Galaxy S4 on his laptop about 3 years ago. Can't remember the program used. He gave me the backup file recently. It's a .bak file which is 1.4GB.
(I screenshotted the file name and attached it here titled " FILE BACKUP TITLE.PNG")
I edited the file, to a .exe. (eg “Samsung SM-G350E_20191001_103009.bak” delete the bak and write exe after the dot and press enter.) That way I can access everything through winrar. However all of the files are encrypted! We have no idea what the password is, what shall I do! (Attached the "enter password" screen in winrar titled " RAR.PNG")
It has 1000's of photos from 2014-2017, I have no idea on what to do. I've checked out brute forcing, but I wasn't sure how to do it.
Thanks.

I'm not sure how to do that. Everytime I click on the file, it forces me to enter a password.
Are you sure that would work? It's not a rar file though. It's an application now, because I renamed it from .bak to .exe.
Thanks!!
(Attached screenshot of the standard file (the BAK file), then the edited one which opens through winrar (the application). Won't upload for some reason, (in the original post).
So basically, the file is a ".BAK" file, then same file was renamed to be an "application" file.

Okay, it's a zip. If older encryption is used then one known file could be used to decrypt it. Was it Advanced something that had that option??

It was advanced password recoveries from elcomsoft, but there are free tools for this known plaintext attack too. https://www.google.com/search?q=known+plaintext+attack+zip
Quite many variables that must match for it to work, but then again, only 12 known bytes is enough, of which at least 8 bytes need to be continuous, so only part of the known plaintext file is needed...
To see if it's even possible open it with 7-zip and see the encryption method.
It should be "zipcrypto deflate/store". Maybe also rar shows it....
If it looks like wondershare file, then using that password (that didn't work) as base could work. At least it would not take much time check numbers from 0-10000+++.
