Hi!
I´ve decided to unlock my phone and install a new rom.
1, is there a easy guide on how to unlock your phone?
2, do i need to unlock my phone if its not restrikted to a carrier?
3, what does radio mean? ( people talk about it when talking about roms )
4, the version number of my factory rom, is it important? do i need to match the rom i download with the same number?
5, how come that the roms you guys tweek here are so much faster then the facory roms?
Thanks.. im a learning newbie at this,
If you only want to install new ROMs, just install a HardSPL (see the related thread).
Doing this you will CIDunlock your phone (it means you'll be able to flash any ROM on it), but this is not a SIMunlock : you are still restricted to your phone operator.
If you want to make your phone completely security ulocked (SIM unlocked, and SuperCID, which is the next level of the CIDunlock), try to use Jocky's software.
thanks for answering...
Anybody who can cover the rest of my "noobie" questions?

Hi gang, I haven't had my ameo for more than a week, bought it brand new and unlocked on ebay from the u.k (I'm in Australia) so far it's working great, but I don't like some of the t-mobile specific stuff. is it possible (after doing MUCH reading to make sure I know all the possibilities) to use a dopod or htc rom reasonably safely?
Thanks for all replies.
hi there are 2 locks here 1) sim unlock (this is unlocked) and 2) cid unlock (still cannot be unock)
sim unlock enable to use various carrier while cid unlock enable to flash various roms.
so in this case i'm afraid that you will not be able to flash to other rom
hope this explains
cheers
At least not be able to flash to other ROM until the CID unlock is developed for the phone. It'll come soon.
Ahh, I see now, thanks guys, I'll sit back patiently and let the gurus do their thing

You don't need to CID unlock but you do need to install Hard-SPL. Then you can flash any ROM you like. Try reading the wiki and read the forums about flashing before you flash for the first time.
The sticky posts on the Forums often cover the basics.

I read the Wiki a couple of times, but i dont really understand it.
tmobile foon with tmobile rom with a tmobile sim, use SPL and get my ROMeO rom, update it.... that's all?
When do you have to use CID unlock then?

hooold it! before you make a big mistake.
* ALWAYS use hard spl!
* use any rom that you like
* update it...and that's all
you don't use CID lock unless you are 100% sure of what you're doing! when you're device is CID unlocked there is no way back!
(a pain in the *ss with warrenty issues)
Is there are way to know if your phone is already CID unlock or not?
Cuz i bought my phone with a custom rom in it already... so i know that it has been HardSPL already, but i don't know if they had unlock the security/CID or not...
Thanks for the help,
Radio:1.02.25.31

Pretty sure error 262 is vendor ID check which means your not Hard-SPL or CID unlocked i'd advise you take some time to read the stickys at the top of forum before going any further...

Rom depends on what phone you have, but its something that can help you make device faster, customised interface
Unlock is used to use your device on a different cellular company, if your device is unbranded, then no need to unlock
Hi,
I will be moving out of the country for a little while and was wondering if anyone could help me out with unlocking my vibrant. (see sig for current set up)
I have attempted using several market utilities but have had no luck, i havent yet called T-mobile because im fairly certain that the unlock code with custom roms installed wont work (correct me if im wrong this is just an assumption im making)
Does any one know of a way to sim unlock the vibrant while on custom roms?
Do i have to use a hex editor?
If i flash back to stock, use sim unlock provided by t-mobile, will the unlock persist after flashing a custom rom?
Thank you in advance to those who reply.

Unlocking has nothing to do with having a custom rom or not.
1. Easiest way is to call T-Mobile for unlock code
2. Quickest way is to follow these directions:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
3. Yes you will need a hex editor and be able to use adb.
Once unlocked it will stay unlocked after flashing custom roms.
I was just in an area without decent T-mobile coverage and had to unlock to use a AT&T GoPhone sim. Did #2 from above. 10 minutes max.
I'm selling my Sprint Note 3 that I had rooted before the lollipop upgrade. Since then I put a lollipop rom on it.
Two stupid noobie questions that I couldn't find answers to when I searched ..
1. Since I'm rooted am I also unlocked ... can he use an att Sim card and use it on att?
2. Do I need a specific rom that would make this possible ... or is there a way to test it to prove to him that it works?
Thanks for the answers.
Just FYI... There's a difference between unlocked carrier and unlocked boot loader.
You do not need a custom ROM to use another Sim card, but you need to unlock the carrier on the phone
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
Is there a way to tell if I did a carrier unlock? I don't really even remember what method I used to root it.
You unlock the boot loader to flash a custom rom?
To sim unlock you would have had to run SSU.app or GT.app to international unlock then odined a older radio mj4 or mi3. Then change the APNs to match the carrier's settings for internet and mms messages.
I called sprint and got the master unlock codes ... is there an easy way to unlock it now that I have those?
