How to remove SD encryption when cooking a rom? -- ANSWERED
I'm trying to use DogGuy's kitchen to build a rom based off of the new 3.56 sprint rom. Everything is working fine, except that the sd encryption gets all messed up -- I can not disable encryption! I go to the encryption option after flashing my newly cooked rom, and choose uncheck the encryption box then click ok. Then if I go back into the encryption setting, it shows encryption enabled! wtf??
Please help.

I found a reg edit that will fix this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\ENCFilt]
'EncryptByDefault'=dword:0
I would still like to know how to remove encryption all together however, if anyone knows..

You may want to ask no2chem over at PPCGeeks, I know he removed it when he started working with WinMo 6.1 bases...

DCD also removed it from his ROMs..... either one can answer if they have the time....

Here's the answer I got from DCD via PM:
you have to remove mencfilt.dll from MSXIPKERNEL.

Frustrating first ROM

Hi,
Tried my first ROM with the kitchen on here. Used the latest essentials rom rather that the touch rom but added all the touch components within the OEM folder.
IT WORKED!!! Storage card ok, bluetooth ok. Touch flow ok. Just one problem........
Phone would not work. Doh!
Could not register on the network.
Any ideas why?
cheers.

Tried the same thing, got the same results...
Any help would be appreciated indeed.
some needed drivers are missing somewhere, anyway did you turn off the phone when running the upgrade ie do it in flight mode??
rgs
I always update in flight mode. don't like the idea of receiving a message whilst doing it.
You would think that with the phone working in the rom kitchen original rom and the essentials donor rom that there would have been more than enough working drivers.
: )
try comm manager -> settings -> phone if it asks for your pin..
was missing in some roms i tried...

there shouldn't be any reason for changing anything with because I used essentials rom and added the touch stuff and some more oems
arent you using 10 buttons comm manager? that is one of the problems, if you make oem package from commonly distributed cab, you should mod its registry to work correctly. it contains many obsolete entries and also some preventing GSM activation.
I was solving this just today

How to unhide ExtROM with DCD 2.2.6

Yes, I have used the search trying to answer this question. Before I upgraded to DCD 2.2.6 ROM, I was able to hide/unhide the ExtROM in the EXT_FLASHDRV registry entry. Now, after installing 2.2.6, the EXT_FLASHDRV key is not present. I have tried adding it with no luck. So is it possible to unhide the ExtROM after installing 2.2.6 or do I need to go back to the stock ROM, unhide, then reinstall 2.2.6?
I do not think rolling back to the stock rom, unhiding and then flashing Dcd's 2.2.6 rom again will keep the extrom unhidden. The rom currently flashed will install in it's originally fabricated state.
Unfortunately with this in mind, I do not have a answer for unlocking Dcd's rom if you have already tried with no success the registry edit. Maybe Dcd will release a version that implements the same extrom unlocker like no2chem's nueExtRom which is available on build 5047...

physically, the partition is still there but the driver is not loaded and the device will not see the extrom at all. what do you need it for?
i don't know if it is in there, and some people will probable think i'm crazy (which isn't too far from the truth), but i was wanting to get the sprint yellow today color scheme. just got used to it and personally like it better than the ones availabe.
install htcustom 1.8...go to the last tab on the program and u should see unhide ext rom or something similar...select that and click save...u might get error...just quit...soft reset using a program not the hole on bottom...and u should see ext rom
With advanced configuration, I believe you can both unhide the ext rom, and unlock it, allowing you to clear the contents.

WM own Encryption does´t work - help

have somebody the same issue with the irus WM6.1 "build in" Encryption?
it does´t work. everytime i tick the checkbox the tickmark disappears when i hit the ok button . :-(
somebody an idea?
mine works fine..
need help
Could somebody help me - please?
Maybe there is a cab file to reinstall the encryption or maybe someone can give me his working files so that i can replace my bricked files.
thanks

did you try hard reset, because mine works just fine . i dunno about others in here
What rom are you running and did you perform a Hard Reset after installing the current rom?
The HR after an upgrade may seem trivial but it can eliminate many issues and is considered a "Best Pratice".
Cheers
BR
I am using the irus full WM6.1 Rom.
I have tried several times a hardreset and also the irus 6.1 Vanilla - but it didn´t work. I have tried the original T-MO WM6 and it works fine but the rest of this Rom is ****. I want to use the irus rom with a working built in encryption. i don´t want to use other encryption software but i want my data to be encryptet :-(
Well i can't comment on the current Irus roms because I have not tried them, I also like to have encryption. I have been using the encryption option that is built in to Resco Explorer (One of my Must Have Apps) Not sure if this helps but it is a thought.
Cheers
BR
thanks - the resco explorer encryption is ok but i would prefer an on-the-fly encryption - the WinMobile built in encryption is also good because you don´t need a password and it is fast.
could somebody give me his working files wich i need for the encryption - maybe my are brocken - so i could try to replace.

dcd 3.0.4 and 3.1.2

Hi all. First post and it has to be really easy to fix (I'm sure). I've searched to no avail ... here goes ...
I have tried several flavors of ROMs and cooked my own. I have XV6800 which has not been able to connect with Bluetooth since removing the stock ROM. I have the 3.35 Radio that is supposed to be just fine with BT (right?) I am not sure if I should be selecting certain options while using the OS Builder or not. Even when using a dcd kitchen and only changing to VZ and Titan options I still get no Bluetooth. Any ROM wizards that could lend a hand? I sure would appreciate it ...
Just asking to make sure....so in commanger and tap bluetooth icon does it intiate? Blue blinking light? What about in bluetooth settings?
Yes. In commanager after tapping bluetooth icon, it initiates and flashes the blue light. If I tap settings I see all the options and nothing hangs or locks up.
It just doesn't "see" anything anymore and nothing "sees" it.
What do you have cooked into rom...what programs do you have installed?
I have nothing except threaeded MMS at this point. I even got new phone to make sure it wasn't hardware so I know that it's something I either am or am not doing.
Would it be wise to use OS builder with say no2's newest with nothing checked but threaded MMS?
No2chem uses PPCkitchen if im not mistaken. You could find alot more help with that over at ppcgeeks.
Right ... I only asked that because I can not seem to get dcd's to play nice. Any suggestions as far as dcd's releases?
Have you tried using one of the prebuilt roms from dcd? and not the kitchen?...If you give a few hours more than likely someone more experienced should chime in.
Yes and no ... I flashed the ROM which requires the carrier CAB but I can not get the Verizon CAB to initialize, install, or otherwise work. I tried from activesink and SD card ... any recommendations?
So when you run the cab file from your phone what does it do...you install cab from your phone booted
Flashed 3.1.2 ROM and then copy and pasted Verizon.CAB to storage ... that worked. So the Verizon CAB was installed succesfully now. Now my bluetooth works! I appreciate your help. If I want/need any thing else as far as apps (like the threaded MMS) I can just install the appropriate CABs correct?
Yes install applications from cabs...Threaded mms can be a bit more tricky...there is a dedicated thread on that topic. I would suggest go thru the titan wiki and you will alot more educated on your device. Will only help.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Titan
You have been very helpful. I have read about my device for a while now and love it since the new(er) ROMs. Again, thank you! I will search for the MMS posts now ... later.
Glad you got your bluetooth working. All 3.1.x dcd custom roms require the carrier cab install for future reference.
To seamlessly install MMS on Verizon see this post.

From what I understand, you already have completed steps 1 and 2. So all you need to do is install the arcsoft cab from that post, soft reset, and you should be good to go.

Flashing through USB

Ok, I have been reading and think I must have missed something. I see how to flash the DCD Kitchen and the bootloader via USB. However all the radio rom flashing for 3.42.50.rar say SD Card. Can someone point me in the right direction. Is there a place within the Kitchen to place this to flash via USB????

If you currently have a working ROM and can get into activesync without issue, then yes, you can flash via USB. Download the NBH file. Copy the file to the directory in the Kitchen labeled ROM. Delete any other nbh files in that directory. Then get your connection working, and run RomUpdateUtility.
Edit: The safest method above all would be MicroSD card. This keeps you from having the possibility of a disconnect in the middle of a flash and bricking your phone.
Thanks Nitro. I have seen lots of your post and you have always been very helpful. I have been follow the threads throughout the upgrading area for a while, and even have unlocked an old 8595 for my step son, though it lost camera for some reason. I just want to be sure that my first attempt at flashing my phone goes well. I think I might just pick up an SDcard on my way home from Radio Shack.
If I am understanding correctly the steps would be as follows. There is one area, based on what you have said, that seems a bit gray to me.
1)unlock using nueSPL-2.47.exe.
2)Install radio using 3.42.50
3) Run DCDs kitchen and OEMizer, not necessarily in that order, to install the OS Rom.
However, if I am understanding you correctly I could skip step two if I place the 3.42.50 in the rom folder of DCDs kitchen. Is this correct?

No. I was under the understanding that you already had a working Phone with a Custom Rom/Radio. In order to boot correctly into WM6.1, you have to have compatible radio / rom installed. If you are going to buy a MicroSD card ( must be 2gb or less NON SDHC), then I would suggest doing as you stated above, in that order. If you are to upgrade the radio later, it's possible to follow my first instructions once you are using the custom rom/radio.
Thanks Nitro. Gonna be stopping by Radio Shack on the way home. Flashing tonight and then dumping a bunch of Cabs back on. Doing the Cab route over the OEMizer so I can play with the apps and remove those I don't like. Wish me luck.
Oh.....one last question. if I have a screen shot of all the EPST screens is there any thing else you can think of that I might need a head of time to be safe? (alltel carrier)

Should be safe. I would look into downloading QPST. You can then connect to the phone, Load the settings from the phone, save them to a file, and then after flashing, resave that file to your phone.
BTW, there is a User Customization route. That way after the Rom loads for the first time, it installs all the cabs you have on the card for you. Read HERE
ok. DLing QPST. I was looking at UC and the other installer. However, I think I will wait to see how this flash goes, and if all goes well and I start flashing more I will add that later. Still have to figure out what apps/games...etc I will keep on the phone after this.

Cool. Make sure you download the driver. QPST alone won't work. LOL
Thanks I noticed that after it started Downloading on some of the other posts when I searched for it. I guess by tonight/tomorrow I am going to either be very happy or very upset. LOL
Don't bother flashign with USB at all for anything.
Get nueSPL 2.47, and flash the RADIO and ROM's via SD card. It's so much faster, easier, and safer.
well we have sucess. Though when my phone resynced w/activesync it game me my wife's contacts. LOL
Nitro if I restore the data saved from QPST will that give me my contacts back?

No. QPST is just for the phones functional settings. Or at least from what I know. The contacts can be synced with activesync and Outlook or equivelant. You could also use a backup software such as SPB backup.
dang. Guess I will have to do it the hard way. The phone settings seem to be ok. Though there are two things that are missing. The display on the *Today* screen doesn't show battery, backlight and comm manager like it used to. Also picture/video mail is missing from text messaging. Isn't there a bug with that, that requires me to install a fix?

Nope. The battery is a registry edit. That's removed because some people like that. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Dword : ShowTitleBarBattery = 1
The picture mail. You have to install Arcsoft MMS. That's also removed. GC just uploaded the latest and greatest HERE
Edit: Wait.... I now remember what you are refering to. That's HTC Home I believe. Something like that. There should be a cab somewhere if you really really want it.
Well if it is HTC Home I believe I have that already on my Home PC and should be able to install it tonight.
GC's Arcsoft isn't for Alltel.....yet. Is there another that I can use until his latest and greatest is finished for Alltel?
