How to unhide ExtROM with DCD 2.2.6 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Yes, I have used the search trying to answer this question. Before I upgraded to DCD 2.2.6 ROM, I was able to hide/unhide the ExtROM in the EXT_FLASHDRV registry entry. Now, after installing 2.2.6, the EXT_FLASHDRV key is not present. I have tried adding it with no luck. So is it possible to unhide the ExtROM after installing 2.2.6 or do I need to go back to the stock ROM, unhide, then reinstall 2.2.6?

I do not think rolling back to the stock rom, unhiding and then flashing Dcd's 2.2.6 rom again will keep the extrom unhidden. The rom currently flashed will install in it's originally fabricated state.
Unfortunately with this in mind, I do not have a answer for unlocking Dcd's rom if you have already tried with no success the registry edit. Maybe Dcd will release a version that implements the same extrom unlocker like no2chem's nueExtRom which is available on build 5047...

physically, the partition is still there but the driver is not loaded and the device will not see the extrom at all. what do you need it for?

i don't know if it is in there, and some people will probable think i'm crazy (which isn't too far from the truth), but i was wanting to get the sprint yellow today color scheme. just got used to it and personally like it better than the ones availabe.

install htcustom 1.8...go to the last tab on the program and u should see unhide ext rom or something similar...select that and click save...u might get error...just quit...soft reset using a program not the hole on bottom...and u should see ext rom

With advanced configuration, I believe you can both unhide the ext rom, and unlock it, allowing you to clear the contents.

Can't install application suite

I have just upgraded from 1.60 to 1.72.00WWE. I have done a restore of my old backup, but cannot install the app suite. The exe file runs, but the XDAII says thet the ROM is not the correct version!! so doesn't install.
On looking at the device information it says
ROM version: 1.72.00WWE
ROM Date: 03/15/04
Radio Version: 1.17.00
Protocol version: 1337.28
ExtROM version: 1.60.50
I am concerned about that last entry as I was expecting 1.72.187 (I don't have the BlackBerry.
Any help or advice on what needs to be done would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks
probably your restore has overwritten the registry
Thanks. I re installed ROM and apps installed ok.
This just means I now have to install all my apps, set up ms reader, and other apps. Looks like I am going to be up all night
Does anyone have a better way of upgrading the ROM and restoring all apps from backup?
Regards
Hi folks,
I pretty much have the same setup except the ExtROM being 1.72.181, i.e. with blackberry. When I try to install the applications from the applications suite I get a strange error saying, please check you ROM, upgrade and try again.
I am surprised since this is supposedly the latest ROM available. (1.72.00WWE)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Lakshman
Did you do a restore after upgrading? This seems to update the ExtRom to your old version and therefore stopping the app suite to load. I am now only just getting my xda back to normal with all the apps I had installed (must organize myself better and put them in one place :x)
Regards
flintanis,
I re-installed all the apps afresh. In spite of this I am not able to install the applications in the suite. :-(
Cheers!
Lakshman
lakshman_mn what ROM versions does your Device Information give? If the ExtRom is not 1.72.181 (or .187) then the app suite wont install.
There is another thread where DCS suggests updating the ExtRom version in the registry, but not sure if that works and also putting the actual apps suite cab in the ExtROM and executing them from there.

What have i Done wrong?

I upgraded my XDA II to WM5 using the rom on buzzdev (WM2k5_1.60c.00WWE) and used the tool to resize my storage memory to 30MB ish. (Hima_DOC_Tool_1.0)
I decided WM5 was not for me so u downgraded to WM2003SE and after I installed the WM2003SE rom i have no camera software installed. (And it seems like i have no EXTROM)
Is the cause of this not resizing the storage memory back to the default settings before downgrading to WM2003SE or do i need to install an EXTROM onto my XDAII?
I tried o2's final rom and the o2 active stuff doesn't install after the upgrade either.
Any ideas?

How Do I Install ROM's Without the Bloat?

Good afternoon, everyone. I am sure this have been covered before.
I own a Cingular 8525 and I am using the latest official release. I understand a new ROM will be released shortly and I'd like to know how to install the ROM without all the bloat that Cingular builds into it.
However, I need the custom settings, such as the settings for GPRS (I utilize Push) and other Cingular settings (such as TXT settings and voicemail) that are needed.
From what I gather you can soft reset before the custom installation, but that's where I need to know what to do to get the settings in place. I imagine from what I've read that this is easy but I can't find how others have done it.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd like to be able to print any help for future reference.
Thank you in advance.
Most of the 'BLOAT' is built into the ROM itself anyway, so you would need to 'bake' the ROM in order to get rid of it which would be a bigger P.I.T.A than it is worth. If you are wishing to go for a 'clean' ROM with minimal crap in it then you could always try one of the latest WM6 ROMs, black (for example) has a cingular flavour which you can use (it has all the standard cingular stuff in it, except it is WM6). Id recommend giving that a shot if you wanna try it.
To upgrade to black 2.5 you can use my guide and when you come to the part where you download the ROM select the one for cingular users.
Thank you for the link, however, I do not want to use unofficial releases.
I don't necessarily agree with everything you've said. Granted, I am sure you have more experience when it comes to this.
I did a hard reset on my phone a few months ago and then a soft reset before the custom installation started. Much of the bloat was absent but I couldn't figure out those custom settings that I did need.
Maybe I am mistaken...?
what custom settings do you need? thats where im a little confuzzuled.. the data settings? the MMS settings? if thats it they can all be installed with ne effort byy using the Cingular Settings cab thats floating around. other than the data and MMS which can also be entered manualy if you know them by heart or write them down before upgrading the rom. come to think of all can be installed by cabs just.

All you do with a hard reset is remove apps or whatever else you installed in the device. You can't remove this "bloat", or in other words, what the phone had when you first turned it on. It's in the ROM, and what the post above already told you, you can only get a basic ROM without the added crap if you upgrade to WM6. Are you looking for a WM5 that someone bothered to take the time to remove stuff from? That's, um, as they said at Bastogne, nuts!
Guys, I'm not looking to incite an arguement, but I know this is not the case.
For instance, when I did a hard reset then a soft reset before the customization began I didn't have a bunch of applications, such as: ClearVue PDF, Download Agent, Voice Speed Dial, SIM Manager, Zip, and a few others.
Now, that is only if I recall correctly, but I am fairly certain that at least a few of those were in fact missing. I also didn't have the Cingular theme.
As I previously said, I have not and do not want to use an unofficially released ROM.
I have a colleague that has the MDA (T-Mobile) and he told me about this process. However, he could only provide me with information related to the MDA.
austinsync: Could you please point me in the direction of the settings CAB or the settings for MMS/data/etc. for the 8525?
Thanks everyone for reading and attempting to help/or helping. Thanks.
The best way to find out what "bloat" you have is to unlock your extended rom and check what cab files are included in it. Anything else on your phone is either part of the ROM or installed by you later.
There's one method of unlocking/unhiding here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283750 or if you know the ROM version the extended ROM contents may already be listed here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms
You can also modify your extended ROM (but I can't find the tutorial at the moment) , and there are also many links to cab files for the Cingular settings.
The only problem with researching for this info is that it'll open your eyes to the many possibilities the Hermes has and you may get hooked on WM6 and upgrading

I just upgraded to the latest officially released ROM from HTC and AT&T (http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html).
And now there is even more bloat, such as AT&T Music and an animated startup.
We know, that is why many of us here use ROMs from the kitchen. That is where the bloat is removed. From PDA to high-end PC when it comes from the factory it will have bloatware installed.

Wow...you catch on quick.
I suggest you try reading more.
Btw, you don't have to manually enter yout txt and voicemail settings..just go to "phone" "services" and "get settings" and that may not even be required, and its really simple to enter your data settings manually...but that would require reading also.

Gee, ya think? That's why we keep repeating ourselves by telling you to update to one of the cooked ROMS here, since they're as basic as they come and you can add whatever CABs, or as you say "bloat", to your own personal liking. *sigh*
It sounds like a little confusion is happening. I see where the guy (girl?) is coming from. when you run the .exe file from HTC's website, it installs a basic image. When the device reboots, a "Batch file" runs that goes through a bunch of pre-loaded cabs installing a lot of extra apps (bloat). What madmatt079 did in the past was, right before the device says "customizing your phone" he/she hit the soft reset. This interupted the "batch file" prohibiting the cabs from being installed. Though the cabs were sitting in the wings waiting, they were never executed resulting in less "icons" on the screens. But, this also keeps some of the cingular specific settings from taking hold.
I understand his un-willingness to install a baked ROM. Doing it his soft-reset way gives him a warm fuzzy when it comes to keeping the phone stock, but not really stock you know. I think the correct answer here is the search feature. Either that, or let the ROM go all the way through, wirte your setting down on paper, then redo the ROM and stop it mid stream. The stuff will be there, just not fully installed.
Good luck with it.

As it has been stated...the bloat is in the ROM...not the extended rom that runs after a hard resest.
here are the contents of the extended ROM:
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_Cingular_GoodEmail_081606.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_getmail.htc8525.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_HSDPA_Wirelss_Modem_Stall.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_GetTeleNav.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_PC_Hermes_PTT_REG_070129.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_PIE_Default.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ShortString_Keypad_XML.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\SMS_Setting_07Jun06.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\SPM_Fix_ITS#2990.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_XpressMail_launchCamera.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ppcquickstart_QVGA.PPC_Draft_11-17.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ST_Audio216Patch_20070409.CAB
None of these include the "music bloat" or start up screen.
One of the biggest advanatages of "Cooked Roms" is the stripping of the bloat. This is why cooked roms run faster and appear to be much more stable.

Yeah, I figured that, and he's super lucky he didn't brick the phone. I had that happen to me doing what he did. Thankfully it was under warrenty and a new one was shipped a few days later.
I'm not going to comment on any one post in particular. However, there is no need to tell me to “try reading more”. This site is here for a purpose. Forgive me for not being an expert. That is exactly why I am here, so I can learn from the best.
As for those of you who have attempted to help me and offer me a starting point, thank you.
I now see what you are talking about regarding the soft resets and that the bloat is in fact included in the ROM (rofin44: I test upgrades against a second 8525 that is not on contract, but I need a stable build and that's why I usually go with official releases).
So instead of asking for more information on how to, I’d like to know which ROM you recommend for the Cingular 8525; preferably a basic ROM with no additional software but easy to install the settings needed from the Extended ROM. If that makes sense?
Thank you again.

hmm
I honestly can not understand why you don't want to go to 'unofficial' release. The unofficial releases of 6.1 these days are just way better than the official ones. If you really want a semi official one you might want to try vp3g's ROM, however I am more than happy with CRC's.
My hermes only has 64 mb of RAM and 128 of ROM, I need the least amount of stuff in it yet I want stable so I can use it for my bizo. I have no need to have live search, as I don't live in the US, so I have a win win situation there.
Carriers make a good OS bad!
I would say CRC's v11.2 (v12.4 is faster, but there's glitches)

If you want a faster phone at the cost of some ram, I would say put the pagepoll up to 8megs, ill stick the program for doing it onto the post.

dcd 3.0.4 and 3.1.2

Hi all. First post and it has to be really easy to fix (I'm sure). I've searched to no avail ... here goes ...
I have tried several flavors of ROMs and cooked my own. I have XV6800 which has not been able to connect with Bluetooth since removing the stock ROM. I have the 3.35 Radio that is supposed to be just fine with BT (right?) I am not sure if I should be selecting certain options while using the OS Builder or not. Even when using a dcd kitchen and only changing to VZ and Titan options I still get no Bluetooth. Any ROM wizards that could lend a hand? I sure would appreciate it ...
Just asking to make sure....so in commanger and tap bluetooth icon does it intiate? Blue blinking light? What about in bluetooth settings?
Yes. In commanager after tapping bluetooth icon, it initiates and flashes the blue light. If I tap settings I see all the options and nothing hangs or locks up.
It just doesn't "see" anything anymore and nothing "sees" it.
What do you have cooked into rom...what programs do you have installed?
I have nothing except threaeded MMS at this point. I even got new phone to make sure it wasn't hardware so I know that it's something I either am or am not doing.
Would it be wise to use OS builder with say no2's newest with nothing checked but threaded MMS?
No2chem uses PPCkitchen if im not mistaken. You could find alot more help with that over at ppcgeeks.
Right ... I only asked that because I can not seem to get dcd's to play nice. Any suggestions as far as dcd's releases?
Have you tried using one of the prebuilt roms from dcd? and not the kitchen?...If you give a few hours more than likely someone more experienced should chime in.
Yes and no ... I flashed the ROM which requires the carrier CAB but I can not get the Verizon CAB to initialize, install, or otherwise work. I tried from activesink and SD card ... any recommendations?
So when you run the cab file from your phone what does it do...you install cab from your phone booted
Flashed 3.1.2 ROM and then copy and pasted Verizon.CAB to storage ... that worked. So the Verizon CAB was installed succesfully now. Now my bluetooth works! I appreciate your help. If I want/need any thing else as far as apps (like the threaded MMS) I can just install the appropriate CABs correct?
Yes install applications from cabs...Threaded mms can be a bit more tricky...there is a dedicated thread on that topic. I would suggest go thru the titan wiki and you will alot more educated on your device. Will only help.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Titan
You have been very helpful. I have read about my device for a while now and love it since the new(er) ROMs. Again, thank you! I will search for the MMS posts now ... later.
Glad you got your bluetooth working. All 3.1.x dcd custom roms require the carrier cab install for future reference.
To seamlessly install MMS on Verizon see this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2220029&postcount=6
From what I understand, you already have completed steps 1 and 2. So all you need to do is install the arcsoft cab from that post, soft reset, and you should be good to go.

How to remove SD encryption when cooking a rom?

How to remove SD encryption when cooking a rom? -- ANSWERED
I'm trying to use DogGuy's kitchen to build a rom based off of the new 3.56 sprint rom. Everything is working fine, except that the sd encryption gets all messed up -- I can not disable encryption! I go to the encryption option after flashing my newly cooked rom, and choose uncheck the encryption box then click ok. Then if I go back into the encryption setting, it shows encryption enabled! wtf??
Please help.
I found a reg edit that will fix this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\ENCFilt]
'EncryptByDefault'=dword:0
I would still like to know how to remove encryption all together however, if anyone knows..
You may want to ask no2chem over at PPCGeeks, I know he removed it when he started working with WinMo 6.1 bases...
DCD also removed it from his ROMs..... either one can answer if they have the time....
