I bricked my mogul :-( - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I have been running the newest release of the sprint rom since it came out a few weeks back. I today loaded the HTC Home app and my phone wanted to reboot and when I did, it comes back up locked up every time.
1. Screen still reacts to touch as far as backlight turning on
2. Somtimes the power button puts it to sleep and wakes it back up
3. Have performed multiple resets (using the sytlus in the reset button), anyway to do a hard reset?
4. Active sync wont connect
5. Never have custom rom'd this before, always have used the sprint roms. Just activesync'd and ran their installer.
Any ideas how to jumpstart a reload of the sprint rom??

Ok first of all...your phone is NOT bricked.
A "bricked phone" is exactly that...bricked. As in it doesn't do ANYTHING and can be used only as a paperweight (i.e. like a brick). People always post that their phone is bricked when it isn't even anywhere close to being bricked. In fact, it is VERY difficult to brick the Titan.
In your case, all you need to do is hard reset. If it locks up right at boot and won't even allow you to hard reset, just reflash the rom. Very simple.

Sounds like you need a hard reset. It will take you back to your default Sprint ROM without the Home app. You will lose all data though.

When you indicate that "it comes back up locked up every time" can you elaborate on the exact symptoms? Does the phone boot and when the home screen attempts to load, the phone freezes/locks and stops responding?
If this is the case, the phone is far from bricked. What you can do is hard-reset which will reset it to the way the rom comes.
Best regards,

If you don't have safe mode (through PocketPlus or other), or through a SPB Backup (or similar) there are very few ways to get this back safely. Hard reset is probably the way to go if you can't get around in the OS. I love PocketPlus safe mode, it has saved me many, many times.
Edit: I agree with the "bricked" comment, it is an attention grabber if anything but almost always inaccurate. Can people say stuck instead please?

Lol I LOVE your avatar... how fitting for a thread such as this
Oh, and on topic... I didn't see anyone actually posting HOW to hard reset without flashing... this is obviously an easy first step. If you don't intend on changing your ROM, you should be fine doing the following:
hold down the 2 softkeys (the ones with Dots on em) and press reset with stylus... follow instructions on screen
EDIT: Oh, I guess that's in the Wiki! Good stuff those wiki's

My home button has stopped working

I've had my atrix for a week now and it has been working fine. A couple of days ago I put gingerbread on it.
This morning, however, I unlocked the sim. It was previously locked to orange. Now it seems as though my home button does naught. Whenever I press it it vibrates but does nothing. The rest of the buttons work fine.
I have tried rebooting the phone to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My lockscreen has dissapeared now.
How did you get Gingerbread? Did you install it by modding (root, unlocked BL, etc) or was it by official means (OTA)?
If you installed it yourself through recovery you might need to try it again, doing the proper wipes of course. If you got the update as an Official OTA then you might need to do a factory data reset.

I followed this to the letter.
However my home button and lockscreen are both working now. But webtop and the entertainment mode are not.
I wish I knew more about that version, unfortunately, I have an AT&T version. Which recovery are you using?

sorry to resurrect this, but my friend is having the same issue with his atrix.
he's not rooted nor does he have an unlocked bootloader.
and actually, he's on 2.2.1.
i did a factory reset on his phone by holding the power + volume down buttons and doing it through there.
there's no lockscreen and there's no effect when hitting the home button. there is vibration when touched, but no action on the screen. any ideas? maybe i'll just force the most recent update that came out.
i'm thinking maybe i'll root it and unlock it for him and flash a ROM or something...? he's not fond of doing that because... well, i guess he's not that into trying his hand at hacking his phone.
...i'm going to keep a tight hold on my own atrix... just in case he decides to switch them out...
but yeah. any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks, all.
Y i would try to update first via OTA if avilable so worst case senario it will brick the phone (it shouldnt) but then you can send it off for warrenty replace. but then again a custom ROM such as CM7 would also be a good try and make the phone a lot faster and more fun lol.
hm. just thought of something. since he's on 2.2.1, and the unlocking/rooting methods I see are for 2.3.4, how do I unlock/root his phone?
because if I update to the new 2.3.6 OTA, then I won't be able to unlock/root... correct?
You will be able to unlock it. Just keep reading is my best advice on that. Start at the top of the Development Thread and read it all. I felt kind of overwhelmed at first but now I have full confidence in flashing roms, entering scripts, etc.

[Q] Need to get into recovery but my power button is broken.

Hey everyone, I have been going through these forums as well as giving google a full shakedown of what it has to offer and it seems I can only find problems that are "partially" similar to mine. Anyway here is the nitty gritty;
I was running the Super Nexus I777 rom for my AT&T SGS2 (the SGH-I777) when this morning my power button quit working. I could not lock or unlock the screen without either pulling the battery and putting it back in and waiting for it to boot back up, or plugging it into a charger. I found a couple apps on the market that allowed me to circumvent the process by unlocking the phone with the volume keys. After work when I got home I contacted AT&T to check on my warranty (because at this point I had decided I was going to flash back to stock and send in for a new/refurbished but working phone). Warranty was still good so after the call was ended I hopped on the forums here and followed the procedure on how to prepare your phone for returning to the store for warranty. Here is where the problems really began. I downloaded the correct stock files and flashed the phone back to stock with no issues. I boot up the phone and start getting "google services has stopped unexpectedly" and other errors which will not allow me to get past the "touch the android to begin" start up screen. I have tried the tap the four corners method but it is not working for me. I have tried using "adb" and "fastboot" to get into recovery and that has not worked.
The problem lies in the fact that my power button no longer works. So I have spent hours scouring the internet and these forums in the hopes of finding some other way to get into the stock recovery mode.
From what I have read, the processes that are stopping and force closing which are keeping me from moving past the startup screen, are because I need to wipe my Dalvik and regular Cache. I would be very happy to do that and have at least a semi working phone again for the week or so I am going to have to wait before my replacement comes in.
Sorry for the long post (especially considering this is my first post here on XDA), but I don't know where else to turn. I hope I have provided enough information about what I have already tried so that the whole process of elimination can be made shorter for myself and anyone else who feels like helping me out. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try using adb to reboot into recovery, but then you won't be able to select anything because you won't have touch CWM.

Go into Samsung Kies, on the menu go to Tools --> Firmware Upgrade & Initialization and enter the model (SGH-I777) and then enter your serial number from the battery compartment when prompted and follow the instructions to restore phone to factory settings. That's what I did when I got my phone replaced under warranty due to the broken power button.

U can do that sure. But I dont think that wipes the data or cache, which is really what he needs to do to stop his problems. Then again I don't remember if upgrading in that manner wipes anything or not. I'm pretty sure not. But it's been a few months since I've messed with it.

Yea, it's been a few months for me as well, but I believe it does a complete reset to factory settings (wipe included). It should download the latest Samsung ROM (ICS) automatically as well. I think the process also kicks you into download mode automatically and starts installing the firmware...a little fuzzy on that part.

Paranoid Android in the ported section is a fantastic rom and allows to wake the screen by just swiping it. So unlocking amounts to two swipes left to right.
Rebooting into recovery isn't difficult either. You can add a recovery reboot button to the drop down notification drawer.

this phone is pretty wonky even under the best conditions. i would say it sounds like you have a bad app installed, although i dont think that would mess with signal. try doing a factory reset. hold volume down and power for about 5 seconds, then using volume down, scroll to android recovery. hit volume up to select it. once you see the android with the triangle exclamation point, hit both volume up and down at the same time. select factory reset.
(this will erase all apps and wipe the system, photos and music should be ok, but you might want to transfer them to a computer for safety) only solution i can think of. the stock ROM usually runs pretty well, but with 500mb of RAM all it takes is to be running a couple/few apps and it goes absolutley nuts. this is the whole reason i found XDA developers. hope this helps.

The only way to brick it is to flash the ntelos sbf to a Verizon phone
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Just make sure you have a fully charged battery before you start and NEVER unplug your phone when it is connected to your computer flashing an sbf file.
Eclipse 2.3 is a good stable debloated blur-based rom. Cm7 is AOSP which is still stable, but not as much as eclipse. I've tried pretty much all of the roms for the X2 and these are my two favorites, mainly because they are the most stable. Any rom is going to have minor problems but the cause isn't the rom, but the phone.

[Q] Newbie Hard reset phone shuts off

Hi all,
I have picked up a Fascinate to play around with. I have flashed CM10 onto a Nook Color, love it, and would like to do the same to this Samsung.
If there is an RTFM, please point me to it, and I won't bother you all anymore.
Issue is...I go into recovery in order to do a reset/wipe data. The Samsung logo appears, I get the menu, and then the phone just shuts off. Am I dealing with a hardware issue, or did the person I got it from mess up a flash?
How can I tell if this phone can work again? Any help appreciated. I could start the downloads and see if I can just flash away, but I was hoping someone could save me the effort by verifying that this is a hardware issue, rather than a screwed up OS.
Thanks in advance...Eric

The closest I got was scrolling down to that option, selecting it, then getting confirmation, pressing volume up, and then the phone shut off. It seems like every time I pull the battery out and try again, it lasts for a different time. It's never at the same exact time. I'm going to rip it open and clean it up.
Thanks for the reply.
Thought about returning to stock through odin and manually flashing cwm? I'll have the necessary files and programs if you want to go that route.

[Q] No Root/Stuck on Sprint Logo - Ideas?

So here's the rundown - Any ideas helpful. Love the phone, but a new one is already shipping and if I can't fix this one I'll keep it when it arrives.
Here's what I was doing and what happened (nothing rooted/modded) - I was hearing clicking in call with Sprint and it was suggested to change roaming settings because I'm in an iffy call area and he thought it was a roaming notification.
After we hung up I made a couple of changes under roaming and the phone asked to reboot. On reboot I get nothing but the Sprint screen. Pulling the battery hasn't helped. Any ideas?
Sure missing my phone. Had to go back to my Evo 4G LTE and I am NOT happy. :crying:

If you can't get it to boot up, as a last resort you can try a Factory Reset. Power down and then press the Volume up + Home + Power buttons. This will take you into the Recovery screen. When it comes up, release all of the buttons and then use the Volume button to move to the Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Press the Power button to select it. Confirm by selecting Delete all User data. I thnk you have to select Reboot System. When it finishes, it should be just like it came out of the box.

Turns out that it was my SD card creating the stuck boot issues. Makes no sense. N3 sees the card fine and I can reformat in phone. If I reload my SD info it jams again. Trying other ways. I'm pretty sure this issue was created by using the Move Apps to SD function.

You might try uninstalling those apps that you moved to the SD card, put your SD card back in, format it and then reinstall the apps that you just deleted...see if that fixes the issue. I had a problem once on my HTC EVO 3D that was similar...
Thanks. That's exactly what I did to fix it. Came here after to see your post.
Can't really use apps to SD with this phone. Used my backup to reinstall the missing apps and it mostly worked. A couple didn't reinstall. It's going back anyway. I tried hard to find a reason for the clicking every 45 seconds or so and can't. What ever it is, it's not for me. New one should be here Tues.

The "clicking" was a "known" issue with MI5 and with MJ4 update it should have went away, have you taken the update and if not go into General/ System Update and do that.

Yes, it does. And, the thing is - I just received this phone Monday 10/28 and two different Sprint reps tried to get me to "file an insurance claim". I told them no, and told them it didn't make any sense on a new phone less than a week old. I paid my dues with the Evo 4G LTE. This time I'll make sure I get a good phone.
If it wasn't for the clicking when calling the phone would be perfect and I would be totally happy. Can't use it the way it is.

Thanks. I knew about the issue before I bought so I knew I had to update. My phone came in and had the issue. I updated all the way to MJ4. The garbling, fading in and out, weak signal, etc. was fixed so I thought it was all fixed. Called Sprint on an unrelated matter and heard the clicking while on with Sprint and they heard it, too.
I've uninstalled apps, removed notifications, etc. and it's still there.
