Well over a year ago I bought the MDA-Vario and back then promptly flashed the rom to remove T-Mobile default. I installed MR.Clean Rom, after a few months of medium usage I completely forgot about the device and never used it.
Found it again the other day and came back here so I could upgrade/flash it so I can use the device as SatNav on the latest rom/build.
I can confirm that my device is G4:

Now, I am having great difficulty searching these forums because after not being around here for so long I don't even know what I'm searching for.
I have been reading different posts/guides since last night pretty thoroughly and I haven't gotten any closer to figuring out what I need to do etc.
I would like a fast/simple/clean G4 WM6 Rom, so far I have been unable to find one on these forums aswell (Why? Read the 2 previous paragraphs.. I honestly do not know what I'm looking for regarding compatibility with my device etc)
I understand I probably have to revert my rom to the T-Mobile original and start from there.
Please can somebody link me to the files I need, including roms/programs/guides.
Better still add me to MSN cr0sis at hot*mail d0t c0 d0t uk *(Not bothered about having this email listed publically, I never use it as email at all)*
Well, its not that hard to find what you are looking for,To upgrade read and follow either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL' posted as stickies on the top of this thread.
To get a rom of your choice, look in the 'Wizard Mobile6' forum, all the latest custom build wm6 or 6.1 roms are safe for flashing a G4 phone.
I managed to figure out Shelltool (despite a ton of broken download links etc)
and successfully flashed TNT 19213. I was getting too many errors (on first boot "Timesomething not working" blah blah, then a lot of programs it claimed to have installed simply did not work (No icons in program viewer or anything).
Anyway, not here to complain about a specific rom not working, so I'll just get on with trying another. Shelltool seems to be the only working flash tool out there, and since last night I have tried a lot of different methods to the exact guide instructions.
I need to go through a list of the roms I can find which ARE successfully linked to still (Again, so many broken links on here it's unreal!). I'll report back when I've cracked it and got a rom I can actually use.
----
Ok, I ****ed up during a flash. Won't go into detail of how/what I did but basically, I need the original MDA-Vario Rom for T-Mobile or I can't continue, Anyone know a working link please??
SoftSPL works. You do need a ROM that boots tho - if whatever you try to load DOESN'T boot you're screwed and left on the tricolor screen, and need an ORIGINAL load for that device (with the proper CID) to recover.
DO NOT screw around with loading things on a G4 unit without a proper CARRIER ORIGINAL firmware file you can use to recover with if something goes wrong.
Guess why I know this.....
Hehe Hmm, I wonder.
Well, yeah, I know this too now. But I wasn't screwing around I just had really bad luck because less than 20 seconds after starting shelltools I had a power surge followed by a brief power cut, effectively "Removing the USB cable during this operation" which of course we all know full well not to do
So I can use SoftSPL even when stuck in bootloader/RGB screen? I'll need a little help on how because I get "unable to copy files, try again?" dialogue. Gone into Activesync, told it not to accept USB connections, Killed activesyncs exe file in running processes in task manager and still no joy. Then again, do I really need to use SoftSPL if what I'm doing now is only putting on my carriers original rom (Yes, I found it.. Eventually! The rapishite links weren't working for me at the time, strange that suddenly they all started to late last night)
No, you need to get a copy of a valid firmware file for the unit and carrier you have, and flash that - then, once you've done that and its running again, use SoftSPL again.
SoftSPL will NOT work from the tricolor screen.
Ok this is going to sound really dumb but:
Stuck in bootloader completely
I have my devices original rom
Extracted the nk.bf file
Ran shelltools, it froze
Ran RUU, Errors (Possibly wrong .dll version, I'm not sure?)
I am following all the wrong guides because not one is telling me how to flash when stuck in bootloader, with what program or version.
My head is fried
If you have an ORIGINAL carrier ROM (which is an EXE, self-extracts and then runs the RUU that is in it) you can run that from the tri-color screen and it will flash successfully.
Don't try to extract anything or get cute with the carrier ROM - just run the loader (the EXE) and it should self-extract and execute.
You CANNOT flash a cooked rom from the tricolor screen on a G4 phone. It won't work - the loader will complain about being an invalid file or device and quit.
You need an ORIGINAL carrier ROM load for that phone - not a cooked one. Load it, go through the startup (screen cal, etc) and then use SoftSPL again.
Ok well I thought I had the correct original Rom for this device, but after 3 times trying to flash it to my device by just running the .exe I get
Error[294] Invalid Vender ID
This update cannot be used for your PDA phone. Please check your update utility
----
Nevermind, seems I was linked to the G3 version in a G4 thread. Goddamnit.
I can't find the G4 version so I'm going to try and flash Wizard_Love rom.
In the days of SoftSpl and HardSPL, messing with RAPI tools like Shelltool is really risky. You should have taken more time with the wikis and guides.
Now you must use an official RUU (from your provider) or you won't be able to recover your phone (since it's G4 and it's CID locked)
Ok Brightrom installed, no panic anymore
Easier than I was first led to believe after spending a little more time figuring out the guides.

THUMBS UP
And today after a greatly anticipated arrival of my new miniSD card, my device completely destroyed it! I switched off the wizard, plugged the card in, switched on, noticed the card was really hot within a matter of seconds.. card wasn't readable in the Wizard/PC/Card reader/Digital Camera/Second phone...
I already stuck it in my Card reader after unpacking it just to be sure it was working...
Anyway, I'll buy two more lol. Could just be that I bought a ****ty card.
Anyone know where to get the latest TomTom + UK map?

Hi,
I recently had a power cut (yes, a lights off power cut!) that killed my PC half wat through installing the Cingular English CWS__001 1.34.502.1 09/21/06 ?? 1.16.00.00 32.53.7018.01H 14955.2.3.0 ROM onto my SPV 3100.
Now SPV 3100 will boot to the ROM I was running prior to the upgrade but I can't use the telephone. I'm also not able to rerun the upgrade as it got far enough through the process to upgrade my bootloader to 1.06 - therefor rendering me unable to load another ROM.
Before the crash I was using the Imate ROM as below and M3100 was sim unlocked and running on o2 3G
i-mate English CDL__001 1.20.305.3 07/21/06 1.20.305.104 1.07.03.10 32.41.7010.02H 14955.2.3.0 1.04
Please help.
Thanks
If your device is still working ok as a PDA then hopefully it just screwed up the radio update of your device.
Try reflashing the Radio only

EDIT: Sorry only works on 1.04 bootloader only. Afraid your gonna have to wait for Pof to come up with a 1.06-1.04 workaround
Hi S.K,
Thanks for the info. I have now tried installing the HERM_1.20.31.10_type2_radio_fixed upgrade but unfortunately the radio upgarde crashes also. It all seams to go well, (after using MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe twice) the phone says "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait" and the progress bar appears on the PC but then after 10 mins I get an ERROR 114: RADIO ROM UPDATE ERROR.
Do you think this might be becuase the last upgarde partly installed bootloader 1.06?
Any other suggestions - I'm desperate to get the hpone on M3100 working again.
Thanks

Please post USB monitor capture, otherwise can't help u.
Hi Pof,
Thanks for the offer, I will sort out the usb software on Monday. Are there specific actions that I should try, obvioosly I will usb monior everthing I do but I want to keep it to the point and not waist yr time trailing through huge log files.
Cheers
BTW - I have tried all options of recovery, such as attempting to install the latest radio and trying to install the new rom from an sd card, trying several roms and using imei unlocker - all without any joy.
I think the problem is that I have partially installed radio and bootloader 1.06 so I can't fix the problem.
Thanks again.
@wotthefok:
For me is faster to look at the usb log file, then I exactly know why the upgrade fails, otherwise I have to decode it from your feedback and I can't be really sure. Check the "upgrading problems" page on the wiki, if none of the steps there seems to fix your problem, post USB monitor log please.
Log Files as requested
Hi,
I have captured information using usb monitor and attached the zipped log files for your attention.
The first is called USB_monitor_log_Herm_120Radio_twice. This log details attempting to install the HERM_1.20.31.10_type2_radio_fixed upgrade, and running it twice - just in case.
The USB_monitor_log_runing_Cingular_1.34.502_11_uprgrade_twice.zip details attempting to install the RUU_HER_Cingular_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship upgrade, simply using the standard ROMUpgradeUt.exe method. This generates the expected Vendor ID error.
My primary focus is to install the radio upgare or download my bootloader to 1.04. The PDA part of my m3100 does now freeze occasionally but at least functions whereas the phone is completely dead.
Thanks in advance.
Please attach capture in *ANSI TEXT FORMAT*, the .lgs file you zipped is totally unuseful
Edit -> Export and Save as type "ANSI Text files".
Also make sure you export in "COMPLETE" view, see the wiki for more details.
OK, Spot the novice.... I have now created a txt log file that captures activity of me running the 120 Radio upgarde - but only once this time. I still had to zip the file due to it's size. Hope this is OK.
I'll send the other logs within the next couple of hours. Please let me know if the output I have sent so far is acceptable?
Thanks

No, it's a "basic" capture, you have to export a "complete" capture:
Start USBMonitor.
File -> New session -> USB Monitor -> Select USB device where your phone is connected -> Check "request view" -> Finish
In the upper part there are two tabs: basic and complete. Click on "Complete".
Right, Try again (duh!) OK, I've tried to keep the log files names as self-explanitory as possible... USB_monitor_log_Herm_120Radio_run1.zip is the r20 radio upgrade, 1st run and USB_monitor_log_Herm_120Radio_run2.zip the second run - without disconneting or resetting the device.
USB_monitor_log_runing_Cingular_1.34.502_11_uprgrade_ran_twice.zip is the Cingular upgrade run via the ROMUpgradeUt.exe, again run twice without disconneting the device.
Hope I got it right this time.....Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Thanks.
This time you got the captures right
- You're on bootloader 1.06: You don't have 'rtask' command, you won't be able to do any radio upgrade only.
- Your device is not CID unlocked (Security level=FF, unprivileged)
- The bad flash caused the CID area to corrupt (CID: Wait interpreter timeout)
- When flashing a full ROM you get a CID not allow (255) this is because your corrupted CID doesn't match the CID on the ROM.
The radio part is screwed, you could have fixed this if you where in bootloader 1.04 by flashing a full ROM, but as you are in 1.06 you can't because of CID checking. But you're lucky because the OS ROM is intact and you can boot the OS, you should be able to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 from OS and flash a full ROM after, which will hopefully fix your radio.
Just wait until a solution to downgrade bootloader is available (I'm working on it).
Hi,
As I suspected.... Suppose it's not all bad news though - just means that I have to be patient and use my communicator once more. Do you know if the guys at IMEI-CHECK have a downgrade solution? Even if it's a pay for option??
I have already got a IMEI-CHECK sim unlock from where I originally got the M3100 unlocked from Orange to work on o2. That said, I have run either unlocker 2 or 3 with the .unl that I know worked I now get
HTC HERMES v3c unlock
Starting communication.........
Checking device..............ERROR
The device you try to unlock is not supported.
Please contact your supplier site.
Device is rebooting
Press any key to quit this application.
I'm currently chatting to the guys at IMEI-CHECK re this problem.
Anything else I can do to assist you in anyway??
Cheers

They have it (M3100v3cUnlock.exe), but it will not work on your device because your IMEI is corrupted and their unlocker will not be able to read it and to check/compare with the .unl key file.
Hi,
Just a quick update. The guys at MIGsofT LTD have VERY VERY generously said they'll have a look at the problem for me so my phone will be winging it's way to them today.
Thanks for your assistance and helping me be certain of the problem and to better understand the root cause.
Hope this information will prove useful to others.
Another quick update...
The guys at IMEI-CHECK (MIGsofT LTD) have rectified problems with my handset and managing to reinstall bootloader 1.04 in the process!!
They also turned my phone around in under three days and only charged me the cost of postage! I had previously been a customer of theirs but it was still a very generous and helpful offer and I would certainly pay for the service than have a duff handset - after all £250 + for a paperweight is rather excessive....
If you're experiencing a problem like mine why not get in touch with them and offer them money to have a look at your handset? No Guarantees but it seemed like my last chance, for a while anyway.
Praise to IMEI-CHECK for a brilliant service - they are King of the day !!
No worries I haven't bricked my phone yet.
I bought a G4 Cingular 8125 that was advertised as unlocked. I know its sim-unlocked at least because i'm using it w/ a t-mobile sim card.
Trying to figure out if it is CID-Unlocked. How do you do this? I've ran EnableRapi and Cert_SPCS, rebooting after each and then tried to use the shell tool to even just view the current ROM info... all it shows in Comments is "This is a custom rom". Have also tried to use Wizard Service Tool to view information about my Wizard but to no avial I can't seem to get that program to run.
Any suggestions? I'm lost right now because everything I try doens't seem to get me anywhere. Only thing I haven't tried is running the Rom Updater Utility with a new Rom, as that seems my only option left to see if its unlocked or not right?
Three Key Topics - MUST READ - and a word or two
Make sure ... Is it a G3 or a G4? Soft reset if you don't know for sure, and look for the 0001 on the end of the IPL./SPL version numbers.
three zeros and a digit on the end - G4
less than 3 zeros-digit - G3.
Ket Reading - How to tell - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284292
G4 -- it's very unlikely to be CIDunlocked - you can only do it by paying imei-check for the software and unique key .. and it's unlikely the previous owner did that without telling you about it - it's a key selling point !! But nowadays it's not so vital anyway. The ShellTool method works perfectly IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY - and will allow you to change ROMS without threatening the sanity of your bootloader ... I've done it three tinmes so far.
Key Reading Shelltool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293480
G3 -- just search the forum for LokiWiz and unlock it yourself ... CAREFULLY .. if its already unlocked, doing it twice won't kill it.
Key reading - the first post and the links in it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
Yes I did read almost everything. I have a G4 My IPL/SPL is 2.25.0001 so yes its a G4...
I've read each item you posted about 3 times each. Even the bs responses to them I read not just the first page or so. I've also read the faria install tutorial and tried that. I've also done the shell tool tutorials and i'll explain the problem that arises.
Also EVERY time I follow the directions EXACTLY on shelltool nothing happens.
I've installed both Cert_SPCS, and EnableRapi on the phone then reset it. Once it boots back I turn on flight mode to disable the radio then open shell tools and click Get ROM info and nothing comes up. I'm assuming that the ROM info is from the phone? or is it from the nk.nbf of the rom you want to put on the phone?
Then just to see what happens extract takes about 10 seconds to complete and flash takes about 21 seconds to compete. The phone is connected to active sync so not sure whats up with it but oh well. I put on Wizard Love and it does what I was trying to accomplish. Still would like to try out a WM6 Rom to see the differences but not the big of a deal to me anymore.
Also if you read my post... I bought my phone from craigslist... advertised as unlocked. Trust me when you meet a guy you can barely understand for a phone that costs $220 you don't wanna sit around in his car and idle chit chat. Specially in the area that we met. When I asked the guy if it was fully unlocked he said yes or it should be because I paid for it. Also my phone isn't branded with cingular 8125... not sure if it makes a difference but it is branded with HTC

It's a G4 - so it's unlikely to be CID unlocked whatever the vendor told you. Proceed as though it is CID locked.

It's from the nk.nbf rom file you put into the same dir as shelltool. If its there, you'll get the info, if it isn't - you didn't read the instructions properly ...

I had the fast flash problem too. Turned out to be a corrupt ROM file. Get one of the ROMs from the list that's regularly posted around the forum. Alternatively I used the one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762 this thread. Don't forget to use the password when you unpack it !!
I'm afraid that's the best I can do as far as help is concerned .. good luck .. it worked for me
Hi,
I have started to update the wiki slightly - but now I am coming to a point where I do not know, where to place the information.
First of all let me shortly describe how I bicked my hermes last week:
1)
I used WM6 Rom Kitchen from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298636 and DL the DEV_HERMES_GER and OEM_GER_VODA - cooked my ROM - installed it via the tools that comes with RomKoch and everything went smooth like silk - my compliments!
since it have been quite a while that i have configured my hermes I could not get everything working correctly - I assumes it "must" be the fault of my own cooking creations (which was not) I decided to install back again the official German Vodafone Rom
2)
So DL the ROM-Version 2.04.162.1 [from http://www.vodafone.de/hilfe-support/technischer-support/97014.html] and flashed the hermes again... Again no problems with the installation - but again the Problem was sitting in front of the device and I still struggled to get my WLAN and Inet working correctly I decided that I should simply install my old initial ROM
3)
So installed HER_VODA_1201623_1030700_GER_SHIP again – np during installation – but then at the end of the day the hermes did not boot up (hang up in windows mobile screen
4)
Went to bed
5)
Wake up – situation was still the same – so I started to read here in the wiki – found various hint’s but none of them lead into the right direction on the first look. Let me explain why:
First Problem:
detecting the right error: Since I have a Vodafone device the splash screens are all red – so it was almost unnoticeable that the phone report “NO GSM”
Second Problem:
For what ever reason it was not only the case that the radio rom seamed to be corrupted – also the CID was not sowing up correct. Took me a while to find that mtty.exe and use the “info 2” command -> that returned me a timeout (found that problem also here in the forum – I am sorry but cant remember the exact message).
At least it was reported that the battery should be removed and it take a while (the guy was reporting he was doing a walk – but the battery back in and the ‘info 2’ would return a correct CID – well the last try was to wait 20h – but still a corrupt CID.
Third Problem:
With a corrupted CID you can’t flash the original Vodafone ROMS (or any other that does CID checking).
Fourth Problem:
SD-Card flashing have all the same symptoms like the other official flash tools – they check the vendor too.
Fifth Problem:
At least how I have understood it the CustomRUU Updater should install “everything” – no matter what the current CID is – well this app always showed me a ERROR 262 – tried various things that have been suggested (incl. ActiveSync uninstall & install) but could not get around this problem.
Sixed Problem:
I had not unlocked my hermes before – so I could not simply use downgrade to the Bootloader 1.04 http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Howto_Bootloader104
So what’s left then ?
The http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick matrix showed me what to do: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=PB_KITL_HERMES – so got that Mircosoft thing (added the URL in Wiki) followed the procedure (well mix the forum thread post and the Wiki article) and then I could boot up (well I was a bit confused by all the errors that popped up on my PC but well I simply have to be more relaxed and had just to focus on my hermes) – then I could execute the magic SSPL_HERM.exe
Once that was executed the HERMIMG.nbh (Vodefone ROM-Version 2.04.162.1) located on the sd-card started to install itself – WOW! Unbricked my hermes finally. [installed after all that again my cooked WM6 and I am quite happy with the result].
But actually I thought, why I had all this trouble (and why I could not simply find the solution in the wiki – so that’s why I started to edit it – but as I said at the beginning – I do not know, where and how I could add more information that would fit into my problem scenario and how I finally solve it.
Just to summarize my Problems/symptoms (what every reason have caused them):
- Bootloader v1.09 (cause of installed original Vodafone Rom)
- locked hermes (Level.:FF)
- NO GSM (hard to read on the red background)
- constant corrupted CID (and removing the battery over 20h did not fix that)
- CustomRRU Update refused to update any software [always reported a ‘262’]
Actually I want to help people who had the same nightmare with this combination of problems and want to direct them to the solution of their problem: use sd-card, PlatformBuild and KITL
So any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Matthias
Even after reading this forum all nite, I am still soooo confused, maybe too much new info in m'head. At any rate, I am trying to UG from WM5 to WM6 and am having a heck of a rough time. Everything goes good until it actually starts the process, at which time I get the 260 Connection Error. After plenty of research on here, I decided to try to "flash" the ROM, to no avail, for nothing happened. I can get into bootloader mode but then nothing else happens (perhaps I'm not waiting long enough? How long should I wait?) and I never see the screen pictured here - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing - so I just give up and reset. I am currently downloading the HardSPL utility so I can try flashing after the IPL and SPL ugrades. But I do have some questions still --
(1) Does my phone need to be "unlocked" to do this and how can I tell if it is or isn't?
(2) Can I just use the ROM that I downloaded from the HTC site or must I use one found somewhere on this forum?
Any other advice? All will be appreciated. Thanx.
Oh, yeah -- I'm working with a Cingular 8525 Hermes [HERM100 model number] Pocket PC. It's specs are:
ROM version 2.15.502.3
ROM date 04/09/07
Radio version 1.40.30.00
IPL 1.03
SPL 1.11
Have you read this http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners ?
Re:
Yes, I have, plus all the links branched from there. After about 3 hours of reading, I felt ready to try flashing, but it didn't work. The HardSPL utility is done downloading, so when I get home I'll try that and hope I finally get a successful upgrade. If not, I'll be back to the forums. Thanx!
What ROM are you upgrading to? The official AT&T ROM? I'd try that first if you're not already.

What operating system are you using? If its Vista you MUST use Mr. Vanx's guide to get past the connection problem. The standard Vista HTC driver is wrong when we want to flash rom's in bootloader mode and vista WMDC. Get it here:
MR VANX's VISTA GUIDE
Hard SPL is great after that. Just remember you warranty may be void if you have to go to AT&T for repairs and the see that bootloader. You shouldn't need Hard SPL to flash the standard AT&T rom or VP3G's or other AT&T based ROM's, but better safe than sorry.
Be sure to close EVERYTHING in the taskbar! Don't start any programs, allow any updates to mess around with the computer while its flashing..In fact, I disable my AV program and internet connection totally when I flash ROMS. (My Kaspersky started updating and virus scanning during my 1st flash..sucker froze and freaked me out!)
Once I dealt with unlocking and connection issues, I flashed the standard AT&T ROM, performed a hard reset immediately and then connected via WMDC and synced everything. I tested it for a few hours then decided to flash VP3G's excellent AT&T based ROM v3.62.3..I like to do a hard reset immediately after flashing to burn everything in...I've seen others in this forum do the same.
Another ROM I've found fun is S64's(Starbase64) 3.62 WWE v9 - It's not AT&T based but you can get WPBEAR's Config files to set your Medianet and proxy. There are other At&T settings CABs out there like Dr. Puttinghams. S64 ROM also includes Advanced Config 1.1 to set your keyboard to Cingular mapping.
Good Luck!

My desktop PC is running Windows XP...
After trying the HardSPL method - which upgraded perfectly - I continue to have the above-mentioned problems; 260 Connection Error and inability to move beyond the tri-color screen to the one pictured on the page which instructs how to flash via SD card.
Thanx for the list of ROMs I can try. For the record, I have been using the "official" one I downloaded from the HTC website. *sigh* I guess I'll next look for the tutorial I saw somewhere around here on how to upgrade from the tricolor screen [or something like that, I think it was], as well as your advice.
But I do have another question -- how do I format the SD card? The tutorial I used on flashing with it mentioned formatting so I'll retry it with the card newly formatted (I didn't because it said I could just delete everything off the card OR format it).
I'll let you know how it goes...
Ahhh...Sorry for your troubles...I didn't have luck catching an upgrade from the SD Card method on my 8525 either.
I know it seems a bit much but, is your active sync working correctly? Upgraded to 4.5 and all that? Can you sync and Backup all your data then try uninstal, reboot, re-installing AS?
I wonder what would happen if one tried Mr Vanx's instructions on a Win XP box?
I also had heard somewhere about messing around with when Active sync is started. Also as a last ditch, maybe try this from the HTC Wiki:

Just another tip... Try a different usb port. I've found that sometimes certain usb ports behave differently during the upgrade procedures. So, far I've upgraded three 8525's on Win XP and only one gave me the problem you've described and connecting the sync cable in another port corrected the problem.

OMG! SHIHAYADREAMER! That was JUST the TICKET! I read it and realized that I'd been doing it right all along, I just didn't realize I was! THIS time, I hooked up my cable at the very beginning and let it go. Before, I'd started waiting to hook it up until the instructions asked if I had because I'd gotten to the tricolored screen (the bootloader?) the 1st time and figured I did something wrong. Thanx to that forum, I returned to what I did the very first time and got victory! *falls down sobbing and weeping with joy* I wasted 25 hours because of fear! OMG! *dances around, singing* I've got WM6! I've got WM6!
I know that being reminded to turn off my firewall and stop all the programs in the taskbar played a big role, as well. But I just give a big "Thanx" (on Thanksgiving! *LOL*) to everyone who answered this board because you all helped me so very very much.
I'm trying out my first-ever ROM-flashing exercise, on my ageing Hermes.
I've read the excellent tutorials by Mr Vanx and OliPro; and I'm certain I'm following them correctly.
I've checked that my phone has SPL 1.11.
I've checked that my phone is recognised on my Vista Mobile Device Centre.
But...
I can't load HardSPL.
Here's what I've tried and what happens:
a) I've tried renaming the HardSPL-V7 .ndh file as HERMIMG.ndh and then copying to my SD card's root folder; and then initiating bootloader. After 30 minutes, soft-resetting; and then checking bootloader: still SPL 1.11
b) I've tried running via RUU wrapper; and, each time, I get as far as "this is from an unknown publisher..." [I select "yes"]; and a few seconds later, my pc shows a dialogue message: "Error 260... the update utility cannot connect to your PDA/phone". Yet everything is connected as it should be.
Can a wise soul out there suggest what I need to do? Thanks in advance.
I think you first need to unlock your phone. It's too long ago when I did it to my Hermes...

Thanks for coming back so swiftly. Yes, the blimmin' obvious didn't cross my mind....
Thanks for the link as well; I'll give it a go in an hour's time and I'll update this thread with results either way. Fingers crossed it does the trick.
Pants - I spoke too soon...
The unlocking process completed successfully on the pc and also on my Hermes. As per instructions, I turned off the phone for 10 seconds, then rebooted it.
I tried running HardSPL via the RUU wrapper - but I get the same result as mentioned in point b) above.
Any other suggestions gratefullly received and I'll let you know how I get on
Ignore me - I had 1.40 OliPro bootloader and I successfully flashed a stripped-down WM6.1 ROM.
So all's well and I like this new ROM. But I've seen some gorgeous catering by you master-chefs out there - and I like your WM6.5 main courses...!
Thanks.
Mate, its better to have Hard SPL V7 on your Hermes... Try renaming the .nbh file to hermimg.nbh, NOT .ndh.... Small mistake, BIG problem...
SPL 1.40 is an older, not so safe version of Hard SPL, Its better to put V7 (2.10 oli) on...
Cheers...

Hi
Newbie so apologies whilst I get used to the site and issues.
Already have a problem with my (bought unlocked) SPV M3100 running on UK "Three" Network
The mic does not work with calls but the headset is OK.
Mic (and headset) works when Recording Notes.
(So probable Software Problem)
Soft Reset has not worked.
Just going thru great (including size !!!) site to learn to Flash, HArd SPL etc.
(Can someone post a link to HardSPL v7 !)
To come back to this thread what are the issues (bugs etc) with WM6.5 & are they fixed yet ?
I am also thinking of getting a TouchPro2 as well.
Does it come with WM6.5 installed.
If 6.1 is anyone here running both devices and can comment on speed stability of Common ROM if installed.
(I suppose limiting factor will be the Hermes/TyTn)
(My Hermes acquired mainly for use in Third World Environments (Aid Work), where it is tougher & now quite common. Touch Pro 2 used in the UK but need to Synch. Prefer a stable good looking ROM (Not too Flashy !!). Speed not that important)
Any help/Advice in Flashing ROMS much appreciated.
Also link to HardSPL v7
Many Thanks in advance
Link to Hard SPL V7, try the 1st page of this thread.....
