Cannot connect to GSM - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hello,
I have recently recieved a used O2 XDA with ROM version 3.19.3 GER or something like that (the previous owner apparently installed a T-Mobile OS on it). I inserted my mobile SIM, one of these cheap Medion Mobile / Aldi Talk things they offer here in Germany, however it does not connect, and because of that, I cannot use the telephone or internet features. It does not appear to be SIM-locked anymore, however it still does not work. Neither the Special Edition Rom nor a more u-to-date Windows Mobile 2003 from the ROM kitchen solved the problem. Any suggestions for help?

Problems with GPRS

Hi @ all!
I've a strange problem with my Wallaby:
Before, I had a very old model of the Wallaby, sold by T-Mobile Austria and everything worked fine. After I dropped this one (the TFT broke), I bought another Wallaby, former sold as QTEC and now, something is strange with my GPRS: Everytime I use my Pocket IE, the GPRS connection automatically is aborted when i push the Power-Button and this increases my data-traffic dramatically.
Has anyone an idea what could be wrong?
thanx very much
Your Qtek probably has an older (or just different) ROM version than your T-Mobile. Update to the latest T-Mobile version and you should be ok.
Thanx bamse, but I don't know which ROM version i ran on my old one.
Currently I'm running 4.01.19 GER T-Mobile ROM.
Any strange experiences with this one?

Dilemma - O2 XDA2i

I need to purchase a pda phone for a project that I am on. I have decided to go with one of XDA2i or XDA2s.
I only need to run one j2me application with the CDC config and Personal Profile on the pda phone and nothing else.
What I am unsure about is what is my best option in purchasing an XDA2i/s. I can do one of the following
1) Purchase the XDA on contract from o2 and then flash it so it has none of the o2 software on it which I do not require.
2) Purchase the XDA unlocked from expansys.com for about £600.
The problem is that I need to use the vodafone network in the UK as thats who our network provider is. I do not think Vodafone has the xda2i on its network and also if it does I still do not like the pre-installed software that comes with it.
So can I flash the XDA2i from o2 so there are no operator installed software?

I dont think the XDA unlock programme works for XDA2i version?
Also do you have more information on your rom? As long as I can get rid of all the operator settings and then just add the GPRS settings for vodafone then I am happy. The pda will be used for a singel application so the less programs in memory hopefully the faster it will run.

O2 does offer IIi in UK, as far as i can see from O2 UK website. if you really hate those so called pre-loaded software. just do a hard reset follow by a soft reset before the auto install begins.

T-Mobile UK

Can anyone help?
Have xda atom but cannot use it on t-mobile uk! Keeps connecting then disconnecting and have no gprs signal. Have had a new sim card sent but still having the same problem  The sim is a 3g sim but t-mobile says that does'nt make a difference should be able to use in a non 3g phone? Is that True??
Put my orange or vodafone sim's in and connect to their networks no probs.
Anyone any suggestions please?
Try it on other non 3G phone? or try it at different geographic location
Thanks for your suggestion hanmin. Have tried different location but still the same. tried in another non 3 g phone and had the same. Have signed up on an o2 payg chip and no probs and have also now tried an orange 3g chip and that worked too. Now in dispute with t mobile as the chip is now playing up in my mda pro too and has been for a while (not a faulty pro after all maybe!)
Wished never switched to t mobile as always been an orange user!! why oh why!!
Have the same problem as you but on Virgin MObile UK. Am thinking of changing providers. Just moved from australia and brought my o2 atom with me.
Just to confirm, you've tested with vodaphone and o2 SIM and both worked fine?
Hi tristrem21 sorry have'nt looked on xda developers for a while! so did'nt notice your question regarding service providers. Yes have tried it on o2 and Vodafone and the sims work fine. It will also work well on Orange too.
same problem, bump for solutions
anyone though of anything yet?
thanks for the tip lob. have switched to o2. works fine now. cheers

HTC Tytn Sim Free - I need it to work with UK Vodafone Advice Please!!

Hi,
I have been given a sim free HTC Tytn and want to use it with UK Vodafone. I currently have an ex-Orange SPV M2000 which i unlocked and it has been working fine with my Vodafone sim. With my M2000 i can make calls and browse the internet at the same time, but with the new Tytn i cannot do this
Is there a fix, should i upgrade it to the latest version or perhaps try and flash it with the V1605 Vodafone flash??
Advice really appreicated from one of the many knowledgeable people on here please,
Cheers
Here, use the Vodafone UK CAB
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs
Hi, Thanks for your help so far,
I have installed the HTC UK Settings .CAB file from the helpful post below
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs
I can now access internet using my Orange contract sim card (which has GPRS activated) although if i am on the telephone i cannot go to browse without ending the telephone call.
my Vodafone contract sim needs updating so is not available for GPRS, but i presume this will be exactly the same.
Is it IMPOSSIBLE to use Internet browsing whilst making a telephone call??
All help appreciated, Many Thanks
For simultaneous voice and data you must be on a 3G/UMTS network with a SIM card supprting 3G. If you are on a GSM network it is not possible.
Ok, so my problem lies solely with the sim cards?
If both Sim cards were upgraded by the Network to 3g sim cards, The UK settings i have installed would allow my sim free Tytn to work as required?
More Info:
I have just spoken to Orange customer services and i do have a 3G sim card and it is active, is there anything i should be altering in the settings menu or anything other files that need to be flashed or installed onto the phone?
Sorry for the lack of knowledge - hope one of you experts can help!
Thank you
Can anyone help me pleasse????
are you in a 3g area? have you tried the sim in a known working phone? have you looked at the wiki or done a search on the forum?

Hermes radio fried/bricked?

Hi. I've been using my hermes for a while now and playing with different upgrades without ever having a problem. I've never tried to use mobile internet (GPRS/3G/EDGE) before though. I started trying recently when my ISP became so bad i could barely load a webpage.
No matter what i do the hermes wont even attempt to connect. (I used my electic guitar pickups to detect the radio bleeps. I get them when making a call but not when attempting gprs).
Here is a rough outline of the roms i remember trying:
Schaps 4.30 (with whatever radio it came with)
CRCs 13.4 (with the radio it came with and with 1.48 radio to try and get connected)
Orange UK rom (SPV_M3100_ROMUpdate_0407), radio 1.38
(all with Hard-SPL-2.10 installed)
I'm on Orange UK, and I've even tried downgrading to the latest orange rom (the one with 1.38 radio). Still no joy. I bought the one day access to orange world thing (about 4 times :O), and tried connecting using orange internet and orange wap connections.
Is my radio forever fried/bricked for some reason? Any help would be appreciated, as I dont fancy trying to get my old imate sp5 to connect to the net . Looks like I might be forking out for a new phone
PS. Wifi internet works fine, as do voice calls.
Did you check the MMS/WAP settings as these are lost when loading a new rom. Either run the carrier configurator (if included in the ROM) or get the settings from your provider and do it manually...
Thanks for the reply ultramag. I tried the configurator when I had the CRC 13.4 rom installed. It seemed to set up the settings for wap the same as on oranges configuration site. I assumed that my phone must be being blocked for not being an orange rom or the radio version was incompatible. I then tried radio version 1.48 as i read somewhere that this worked with orange uk. Then i tried installing the orange full phone rom including orange version of wm5 and the orange radio rom 1.38. I suspect this could be a physical hardware fault as i have opened up the phone before to fix the earphone speaker and camera.
I wonder is the voice call chip separate from the one that does GPRS? or is it a one chip deal?
Also, it is a very old sim card. Could this contribute in any way?
mmm if its an old sim card it probably cant do 3g but gprs should work.
perhaps your current radio rom does not support data somehow? or you havent got all your settings configured properly... its all i can think of...
I tried a vodafone payg sim card from someone elses phone, and it came up with a 3G symbol on the start bar at the top. I couldnt connect however, but according to the vodafone website you dont have to explicitly pay to get to the www.live.vodafone.com site? Or am I wrong?
Getting the 3G symbol with vodafone suggests I might be getting close to a solution here. Also connecting and disconnecting the 3g box on comm manager caused radio bleeps which suggests it is capable of 3g. Looks like my beef is with orange/vodafone and not the Hermes. Typical!
Thanks for all your help guys. I'll post if it ever works.
try your carriers website for gprs specific settings =) i know i had to edit my settings before mine would work..
Problem solved
I've finally sold this problem. It was the SIM card and nothing to do with the phone. I never managed to get through to Orange tech support because theyre useless (last time i phoned they said their tech support systems would be down for 5 hours).
A friend had an Orange SIM and I tried MMS (which uses GPRS) with his SIM in the Hermes and it worked fine. I then tried it with my SIM and it failed as usual. Sorry for wasting peoples time with this.
P.S. Orange sucks. I will be switching service ASAP.
