Hi guys,
I've recently been trying to get blackberry connect to work on my prophet (running WM6.1). I've read pretty much all the posts on the forum(s) and have not been able to get it to work.
As far as I can tell, there's a common solution where you need to edit the device name to "HTC_3450" and editing the Aku setting in the registry to .0.4.2
I've tried that but still no go.
Then there's some recent developments about editing the ROM to change the deviceID that's hardcoded. I haven't yet tried that yet, but I before I go down that path, i wanted to see if anyone else with a prophet has tried this and gotten it to work or not...
Thanks,

Trying to combine my devices and have been looking for the cab file. It shows on Rim's website that there is one but checked the web and cannot find it. Any help on finding this will be appreciated.
Ditto...but for my HTC S620
Try this one. No promises. Back up before you install, etc...

It installs on the phone, but when you click on the icon to configure, nothing happen
Well, it didn't for me, and I made sure to install in main memory as well. Anyone else have better luck?
won't even run it.. someone on the wizard thread even got to PIN stage..wonder how..
It installe don my phone
I will goto work and see if I can get the oin to change and see if it works. Also need to find a blackberry desktop manager for smartphone because the rugular one of course not detect it but it we need one to generate a pin for this. Anyone have any ideas?
I'd be delighted to test it with BES account, because it needs oly PIN and IMEI, but my qtek 8500 won't run the soft at all...
Installed fine on mine. Just dont have anyway of testing it now!
hmm an I crazy? I installed it on 8310 and 8500, it won't run on any of two.. Just an icon in the start menu that does nothing..
I spoke to soon. The icon does nothing (
I wrote to RIM, requesting a client status
Let's see what they say, eh?
lol, RIM is known for its ignorance to VIP vendors, not to say individual customers..
Greetings! I wanted to see if anyone out there is experiencing the same problems and if so then maybe they have already come up with a solution.
A handful of software is locking up my WM6 (TrueNytrals 1.4MS), the most importand of which Marsware Newspanel is locking up the device after resuming wakeup. I also noticed that it does the same thing on some 3.3AKUs that I tried however the 2.2AKUs (Offical QTEK) seems OK.
I love WM6 and find that the amount of energy poured into getting this OS on our Prophets is outstanding!
Could anyone assist me with keeping this GREAT software on my G3 device since the developer has been MIA for a couple of years now and there is little chance that this software will ever move from BETA stage.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
EDIT: Upon decompiling further, I have found that the NewsPanel.dll code imports from the following in the system files:
commctrl.dll
coredll.dll
aygshell.dll
wininet.dll
Of which there are differences from 2.2AKU to 3.3 and up (one would assume), therefore leading me to a dead-end. Would the system remain stable if one were to replace the above system files with the ones from a 2.2AKU? Furthermore how could one attemp changing these os-locked files?
Should this thread now be moved to "Development and Hacking"?
Anyone could PLEASE help?
Edit AGAIN: I have tried disabling EVERYTHING but the known system processes and also moving to the internal storage... STILL locking up the device.
Anyone?
Has anyone any ideas on this?
If someone has Marsware Newspanel working on their WM6 (ANY Flavour) and it is NOT locking up their device, could you please post here your NewsPanel.dll from your "\Program Files\Marsware\" folder OR PM me? So that I may compare it to my own...
Thanks again!
lets go about this the other way, does newspanel even support WM6 ? (ask them) if so, we can have a look etc. or are you trying to patch this software to work with WM6 ?
Marsware Newspanel lockups
Jesterz, thanks for your reply...
I feel like Wayne "I'm not worthy"... you are like an XDA idol - cool:
I am not sure if NewsPanel is compatible with WM6 and there is no way of contacting the developer due to the fact that he has been missing in action for more than a few years now, NewsPanel and TimePanel being his last releases (even before WM5 came out).
I suppose then to answer your question, I am looking at MODing it to work for WM6, it worked with NO Problems on WM5 up until 3.3AKU. My initial query was to find out if there were others out there that were able to use the software on their WM6 Devices without lockups and IF so then to find out how this is possible, apply it to my own device; in turn assisting others with the same problems. It is by far THE BEST Rss software out there (subjectivity). Maybe it is JUST not possible with WM6 due to internal OS changes, but proding around I have seen some accounts of it working on WM6. Is it solely a problem that all of the WM6 ROMs in the prophet forums here are all based on the same Wizard ROM? I am not sure, however on Prislavs 4b ROM, which is based on a Charmer ROM - NewsPanel locked up as well... TOO many questions.
So IF there are some out there with a WM6 Device AND MarsWare's NewsPanel installed and working, if they could post their device type (ROM type) and possibly their DLL (there shouldn't be any copyright problems due to it being a free BETA edition).
Thanks again.

I've been away from months so i'm catching up, but I now remember these guys, they also made the weatherpanel, too bad they are MIA, anyway obviously something broke between AKU 2.2 and AKU 3 and higher, as you have already debuged in your posts, it is probably due to change in the files you list, what you could do is create an WM6 rom with older files in it and see if it works....
P.s.
i'm hardly an XDA idol, like way !, no way ! I just like my prophet
Upgrading
Jesterz,
I have never quite ventured into the 'building' stages of the OS, just mainly flashing others' published works. However I am downloading the S-Core kitchen and I will see if I am not able to do just that - replacing the neccessary files to get this soft to work. However if I were to be able to extract the files that I saw from decompiling the dll from an official 2.2 AKU then I could make a CAB file to replace some if not all of the dll's, no? I say this because I have for once an incredibly stable TrueNytral 1.4 ROM with everything working (charging, wifi, bt, IR, etc.) and I would hate to see it gone - "if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
So I suppose now that I have to figure out how to extract these files from my 2.2 Nk.nbf and THEN put them in a CAB and install on my WM6... the learning process begins now...
Any assistance or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated.
Still goin' on...
I have tried about everything now, I have tried to extract all the above-noted DLLs from the official QTEK ROM, but the problem with the PE Headers of the dumped files is stopping me from trying to use them in my WM6. (Yet another problem)
I have looked in the NewsPanel.DLL, but my programming skills are not adequate enough to amend or modify it due to the fact that I don't know what I am doing should I need to change something.
++++ Can someone out there (Guru status sans doute) disassimble the DLL to know how it works and then modify what is making it "lockup" on WM6 (normally within 45 seconds after waking up the device). ++++
I cannot seem to find another (better) RSS reader that offers large RSS Descriptions WITH embedded photos on the today screen:
I have tried PocketRSS - large and nice but no photos
I have tried Insight - nice but NOT large enough
Egress downloads in background but no photos on today screen
Franky newspanel is by far the best, I just cannot seem to get it to work!
Maybe I'm bull-headed, but I don't want to let this go if there is a way to use still use it with WM6- and as I said b4 the developer is MIA.
AnYoNe can HELP?
Hey,
found your post in a search, and I just want to let you know that you are not alone, I have the same problem on an unknown Vanilla ROM and also the current XDA Mobile 6 r2a that I'm running. The exact same symptoms. This is REALLY a shame as I totally agree that it is THE BEST today plugin when it comes to RSS. I'm settling with Egress right now but if anything were to evolve on NewsPanels problems...
If there's ANYTHING I can do with my very limited knowledge in programming, let me know, at least I can beta test, right? I have no problems flashing and re-flashing if needed to get this awesome program back up and running in our WM6s.
Best Regards,
Nik
newspanel
Has any fix this program so it can be run with wm6? sorry about my english
That's strange. Back when I had the PPC-6700, NewsPanel (after a few months) started locking up my phone all the time. Not just on wake-up, but when I tried to do ANYTHING. In fact, it caused me to hard-reset a few imes...
However, now that I've got the HTC Mogul, I haven't had this problem once. Of course last time it just took a while for the problem to show up, but it might also be because I'm using the today plug-in in Spb Diary.

p.s. I know this post isn't much help, but I thought maybe knowing it works for me in Diary might help out in some way.
Update
Ok, it seems that the Call to the Connection is the problem here or at least I think so. When we check for it to "Establish a Connection" and you have a GPRS connection it works without any problems. However, if you were to go to Flight mode then it will lock up your device again...
I read somewhere that the developer fell off of a mountain while trying to climb it and consequently expired, so I guess there is no help down that road...
Could or can anyone with some experience with IDA (or the like) dis- and re-assemble the DLL and take out the Establish a Connection problem so that the rest of the world can have Photo feeds on their today screen without waiting for Insight to update for over 8 months now? I confirm that this is working in WM5 of the official flavour, i.e. Qtek 2.20 for S200 WITHOUT the establish connection thing-y.
Otherwise I am trying to learn as I go, but as many of you with graduate degrees in IT will acknowledge - It ain't easy!
Peace...........

On my HTC Tytn-II with WM6, Newspanel locks up the device even if "Establish a Connection" is disabled/unchecked.
Hello there,
I am not certain if this question has been posed a hundred times before or not. If it has, I apologize for asking again; however, I have searched through the forums and haven't found the answer yet.
My question is: Does an applet or utility exist which could be run after I update the ROM on my phone (or perform a hard reset, etc.) which would essentially read in the entire Windows Mobile registry, then allow me to customize the OS to my liking, then finally re-read the registry and save the deltas off to a .REG file?
I love to continually update the ROM on my phone and after owning an Apache and now a Titan, I have become pretty proficient getting the phone back to the way I like it; however, I would very much love to double-click a .REG file (or whatever) to have all of the customizations reapply immediately.
Does such an animal exist?
Thank you,
Erik

I havent seen anything that will create the delta's that you want but SPB Mobile back up will create a registry capture than you can reload that exact registry from that point in time. I dont know if that will help you but after months of not getting an app here or there to cook into my kitchen correctly I realized why bother. Just use the back up program after flashing and installing and I get the EXACT results I was looking for.
Good luck!

I would suggest against this if you are flashing different ROMs (i.e. 3.2.0 and 3.2.1, etc) as there will be different drivers that these programs rely on. It could cause some problems that a hard reset won't fix. Some people see no problems and other senior members have felt the burn after trying to reimage their device.
I would suggest looking into UC customizations for a better solution.
Hi! I know this has been discussed a several times, but never in depth outside a ROM-release thread. Hope this is ok!
I tried three WM61 ROMs on my Oxygen and never got Exchange ActiveSync working. Always recieve error 0x80072F06 - SSL vertificate invalid (Which is wrong, and it is no wildcard cert! Tried two different exchange servers. Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2009 Beta).
I tried..
- two registry pathches (secure=0 and.. forgot the other one)
- importing CER file from authority
- provisioning cert via XML in CAB
- setting up partnership w/ desktop and setting up profile over-the-air only
GPRS works fine. Currently, I rolled back wo WM5 WWE.
Does anyone have an idea of what else can be tried to fix it, because it seems that this is not only happening on Oxygen?
And: thanks so far, I read so much in this forum you all posted! It was more than very, very helpful the last two years! Wonderful community!
hum.. really no one with an idea?
Does the issue appear at the chinese rom?
Still no SSL solution
Has anyone made any progress on this WM6.1 SSL error problem described by MoritzN? There is so much waffle on the net by people with no clue suffering ("I uninstalled Eastern Language support which fixed it for me" sort of ridiculous solutions!!), I wondered whether anyone who knows what they're talking about has sorted it out?!
Hello Guys,
I have the same issue on the ROM WM6.1 by zfree
"The server certificate is invalide ..."
on exchange server 2007
I'm sure of my settings causqe this config work fine on my HTC kaiser ...
I have ever try that on WM6.1 rom by Blackdragon_860 and i have no sync at all ...
I will try to find another Rom to see if the problem occur...
FLA242
Doesn't really anyone have an idea?
I would really donate $$$ for a solution.. I want the S310 to become my beach-phone...
Thanks !!!
No one knows...
And I guess this is the same reason Google Latitude doesn't work
Newby question from someone just statring off and not brave enough to enter into registry land....yet.
I have the HTC Hermes (SPV M3100) which has been upgraded to WM6.1 Rom version TNT. 19199 and have found like may others that although i can send files via bluetooth i cannot receive any. due to the donor machine being unable to establish a connection.
I have searched countless forums and discovered that the problem lies with the installed upgrade which would appear to have had a slight error/ommission with the irda/comm manager settings. I have found over 10 similar threads on the same subject, all of which remain unresolved.
A similar problem on a HTC Prophet was answered with a registry fix titled "IRDA fix" however as i'm not ready to dive inside my machines workings just yet.... does anyone have the fix in CAB format.
Im sure that if posted the cab fix would make a lot of people a little happier.
:
Did as told to do and searched a bit more....
Found the answer here.

It was a fault highlighted in the initail build of
TNT.19199 Series UC (Vanilla/Official/Professional)HighQuality.
and as instructed i installed Dr Yar Bluetooth app and all is well.
Ill post this in the other threads i found and see if it makes people happy.
