What version of PRI ar you using? (GPS testing issues) - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Hi all!!!
I currently have 2.04_003 but I'm having really big trouble to lock on the satellites (30+ minutes, sometimes 1+hours ) so I'm wondrering which is the best PRI...
I have some friends with 2.03_003 and 2.00_004 and they lock on very fast... I'm talking about 10 secs...
Is there a way to change the PRI Version manually?? where can I faind them (I did some search in the forum with no luck)
thanks!!!

I do not know what PRI is but I have version 1.35_002 and I sometimes can never connect but most of the time when I prime it I get a connection within 2-3minutes

PRI Udate
The PRI is seperate from the PRL, and it makes a huge difference on the GPS version.
Search PPC Geeks for the 2.03 PRI. I think it came from the kaiser or the vogue, but it works fantastic on my Sprint Mogul. 2.04 sucked for me.
The PRI is stored in a special NVram seperate from the ROM and Radio. It is updated by installing a .cab file, and then you run \windows\PPST.exe and it will flash it.
Sorry I don't have more direct info, but I just don't have the time to re-search for it right now.
Good luck!

Keep in mind that PRI can be/are carrier specific.
For example since Verizon has yet to release any updates for the XV6800 the only PRI that can be used is 1.35_002.

I had a feeling of that...thats why I didnt jump at the chance to change it....lol

i'm on telus network, can i flash with new telus vogue wm6.1 rom just to get the latest PRI and flash back to dcd's kitchen ? will that mess up my titan ?

Personally, I don't see that being an issue. But don't quote me on that. If anything, we can get the PPST file CAB out of that release and you can install and run it manually instead of doing a complete flash.

I am pretty sure I already updated your carrier cab with the latest Telus PRI. You should have an "update PRI" option in settings -> connections.

DCD... being that there is a "Test" update out there... could You PM me the "Update PRI" from the "Test" update for Verizon? You know... the PPST file CAB for the new Verizon update. That would solve my stupid "Roaming" issues on my Cloaned Sprint Mogul

DCD I would like that same test file if possible.

i do not have permission to release that.
from what gc14 has said, it disables your GPS anyways.

I would just use it to overwrite the Sprint PRI and get the ERI correct. Then I would redo it with the VZW original Stock rom... and then your wonderful DCD 3.2.5 and Radio 3.42.50

The VZW stock ROM does not include a PRI.
The VZW stock extrom contains a cab, "RadioRefurbish"
If you manage to flash a VZW Extrom and VZ stock ROM to your Mogul, RadioRefurbish will run during customizations.
However since your device was originally a Sprint Mogul, I believe that this would restore your default Sprint PRI.
You are correct on what you need, which is an actual PRI update from a verizon ROM update. However I cannot give this to you right now, and I am not sure you would be happy with it even if I could...

Yes. This I have tried. I even ran Radio Refurbish manually after I got everything working. It just reloaded the Sprint stuff.. to include the ESN.

Well... I just thought I'd ask. I haven't been using GPS, but tired of the Roaming. Wouldn't I be able to just run that PPST stuff...to fix the PRI/ERI... then reflash everything else... to include your carrier cab to fix anything that it could have messed up in regards to the GPS?

The PRI settings, including GPS enable/disable, are written as NV values that my carrier cabs cannot touch. I do not know how the verizon PRI is disabling GPS, I just took someones word for it. You may be able to turn it back on in QPST, I don't know.

Ahh in that case I don't need it. I will need it when I move my moguls to verizon but by the time that happens the VZW update will most likelu be out.

Hello.
I tried the update pri from the connections menu and I got "PPST : backup EFS failed."
I'm on telus...
Any ideas?

I just flashed with the latest telus update to get their updated PRI and then I flashed back to DCD.
Now, the GPS won't work at all, even though it is enabled in the dialer/location settings.
Any thoughts?

[April 22, 2008] Alltel 3.35.671.9 for Titan - enables GPS

This the Alltel 3.35.671.9 ROM with GPS enabled (it is not enabled in the OEM ROM). Enabling GPS is the only difference this will make to your phone. This is OS-only so you will need to flash the OEM ROM first.
Download GPS-enabled Alltel ROM
1. Flash the original Alltel 3.35.671.9 ROM.
2. Connect to PC and copy TITAIMG.nbh from my ROM to a MicroSD and remove it from the phone. Or alternatively, use WinRAR to extract all the files from the original .exe file from step 1 and replace RUU_Signed.nbh with my TITAIMG.nbh file.
3. Install Hard-SPL 2.40 from Olipro Link
6. Reinsert MicroSD and hit RESET. TITAIMG.nbh will install. If it does not, hold POWER+CAMERA while pressing RESET, you will briefly see the tri-colored bootloader screen and it should load the ROM. Or if you extracted the RUU from the original .exe file, just run RomUpdateUtility.exe.

Someone on PPCGeeks requested an Alltel version of the GPS ROM with all the original apps (Office Mobile specifically) intact so here's my contribution. I figured I'd go ahead and post here since PPCGeeks is down right now.
http://rapidshare.com/files/87429906/Alltel_3.16.615.0_Titan.rar
The only change is I stripped Sprint stuff out, added Alltel stuff in. No other changes whatsoever. It will fix your splash screens and extended ROM back to Alltel if you flashed the official leaked Sprint firmware.
There is no IPL/SPL or radio in this ROM. You must first flash the 3.27 radio and Olipro Hard-SPL 2.40 first. Then copy TITAIMG.nbh to a FAT32 formatted MicroSD. Put the MicroSD in the phone and press POWER+CAMERA while pressing RESET to get into the bootloader. It will begin flashing automatically. No RUU is included because I couldn't get the RUU to work with Hard-SPL 2.40. However, maybe my old USB 1.1 laptop is the cause. If you'd prefer to try an RUU, just rename the file to RUU_signed.nbh.

the ruu works fine for me with spl 2.40, and you dont have to rename it at all, as long as there is only one .nbh file in your ruu folder.

I never could get the Alltel WM6 RUU to work with SPL 2.40, nor the one that came with the Sprint leaked FW, nor one I downloaded from your FTP. They always cause the phone to reset at 1% and I get "ILLEGAL COMMAND" on the RUU. They all worked just fine with the old Hard-SPL 1.20 and also the 1.06 in the relocker. Weird. My laptop won't ActiveSync with any of my devices unless I turn off "Advanced network connectivity" in the control panel either, so it must be my old Thinkpad laptop. It's a P-III antique.
At any rate, flashing this ROM will be even easier for those who can use an RUU.
I don't know if anyone is interested, but I've updated this ROM for 3.35.651.2.
Nevermind.
Updated for 3.35.671.9.
guys, i downloaded the new Alltel ROM yesterday. As stated, still wm6 but with RevA capability. I'm new to this stuff, but it looks like the above alltel ROM just gives the new stock ROM GPS capability. Is that correct?
Yes, it is a permanent way to get GPS capability with the stock ROM.
I theorize the necessary changes can be made into a simple cab file so you don't need to flash the ROM unless you want the GPS enabled permanently. I plan to make a cab later today as some people want to try it out.
yeah that would be cool.i have the new Alltel Radio, and i'm running DCD 3.0.1. the reason i went with 3.0.1 was i thought it enabled GPS. Now that i've got my device up and running, i see it does not.
DCD3.01 does infact have working GPS my friend.....
could be, if that's true my alltel engineer friends doesn't know about it. He told me GPS would not be enabled on the 6800 with Alltel. He even runs DCD, he can get it with a Sprint Radio, but not with the Alltel radio. again, that's just what he told me.
What he meant to say was that the ALLtel update does NOT include the drivers (3 of them) in the operating system thereby not enabling it, but the radio itself will allow GPS to work.... I'm flashing it right now, be back in a bit.... If you flash a DCD 3.0.x ROM you will have GPS drivers.....
gotcha. i'm not doubting you..just wasn't sure of that.
i have dcd3.0.1 for alltel. 3.0.4 was taken down. I didn't think the radio was going to allow it..that's why a few friends i have are using the sprint radio. I'm a techy, but not in this world, so i'm learning...

GPS does work with the alltel 3.37.20 radio and any dcd 3.x.x, on any carrier.
Is there any real improvements to this radio or is it just a higher number? Thus intreguing people.

If it is only three drivers, couldn't we just nab them from a GPS enabled ROM and manually copy them to the proper folders?

Official Verizon Update Broke Gps For All Roms~! Help!!!!

So as the title states the offical ROM for verizon broke my gps for all the roms i have tried. Now this gets me wondering if the Official rom simply has some QPST tweaks to make it only work with VZ nav. But its quite annoying that i figured i would try the rom only to figure out that the GPS lockdown is NOT rom based. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this. Thanks!
I Second that..
I tried flashing the titan 20273 kithcen.. then 20270.. then no2chem 5067 as well.. tomtom will just say poor gps signal.. and just stays like that for hours..
can some one please figure out a way to fix this... VERIZON.. You Bastard!
Try dcd's baked rom. I flashed it and GPS started immediately, after vzw update.
From the info GC14 posted a while back it would seem that the new radio is to blame...at least that was my understanding. Flash one of the other radios and see if the GPS function is restored.

This is one of the reasons it wasnt leaked, there will undoubtedly be scores of people less familiar with flashing who "brick" or "break" their devices.
It is easy to get GPS back working after new VZW, but we need to get a fix the same method as Sprint; aGPS.
And, its not just QPST, there is a .dll in the way that requires vznav.
Already tried other radios.. im currently on 3.42.30.. still no gps.. FUUUGGGG.. Verizon.. You Bastard!

Guys, the reason your GPS is screwed is because of the PRI the update installed.
You need to go back to the stock bootloader (using Titan Relocker), then flash the original stock Verizon Rom letting the stock customizations run. This will roll you back to PRI 1.35. Once that's done, flash SPL 2.40/2.47 again followed by your custom rom/radio of choosing. You WILL have to reapply the Titan GPS Fix with QPST if you were using it prior to flashing the update.
Your GPS should be back to how it was after that.

PRI = Primary Rate Interface, correct? What does that have to do with GPS? Is the new ROM some how using the PRI for the aGPS or something? If this doesnt make senses its because I dont know what I am talking about and would love to learn the more technical side of this.
Thanks for any info GC.

As far as restoring GPS follow GC's instructions earlier. I did and I am good again.

Official VZW to DCD ROM, warnings, worries?

O.K. flashing my XV6800 with the official rom recently released was the first time I flashed anything. I am now serously considering reflashing to the new DCD rom to get the GPS functional. I realize I need to flash the radio as well, but other than that I'm flying blind. I have read through the wiki and think I can do this following a decent guide.
My question is, can I follow any of the guides out there, or do I need to take special steps now that I've flashed the new VZW rom? I've found a each flashing guides that I think I can follow, but would appreciate links for noob-oriented flashing guides.
You will have to take the PRI back 1.37_002 using the RadioRefresh.cab. The "official" update changed it to not allow 3rd party GPS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421275
Is there any confirmation that this actually works for someone who has gone from the original Verizon xv6800 firmware to the MR1 firmware, without having done any other flashing that might have written values into the radio EEPROM/flash that we don't have visibility into? [I suspect this latter point is probably the source of the confusion of various tricks working for some people and not others.]
There seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to what restores the PRI and what doesn't, and whether the PRI is actually the thing that definitively controls the enablement or disablement of the standard GPS API, or whether simply something else that happens along with the PRI update might be responsible.

if you want to be a guinea pig, you can try spl 2.47 and a custom ROM. see if GPS works. im looking for the threads on this.
you can always revert to the MR1 firmware if you wish.
I've considered it, but I don't think that I want to be taking the first big step there as I don't have any extra phone aside from the xv6800, and hosing that would be a PITA.
Presently focusing on seeing if I can convince LBSDriver to return useful data with the MR1 firmware, though I'd be interested if anyone can corrobate a known working procedure for a phone that has had no custom firmwares/radios aside from the original Verizon release -> Verizon MR1 release.
To flash or not
Am I correct in assuming that if I do decide to flash, but don't like the results that I can just run the MR1 update again to get back to stock? I have read where others have said that they flash the MR1 without re-locking.

As DCD said, going back to PRI 1.35 was not necessary for me. I still have the NEW PRI 2.03_002 on my XV6800 and I can use GPS just as I did before.... Now here's what I did....
I went from DCD 3.12 --> NEW VZW upgrade. GPS didn't work so I flashed back to "stock-non-GPS rom) Then flashed the 2.47 No2chem SPL, then flashed radio 3.42.30 using SD card, and then finally DCD 3.15. No I didn't actually check then, but I did 3 days ago, and I have PRI 2.03_002 on my phone but GPS has been working just fine..... but your aGPS is still locked to VZNav i assume. any real benefit that you see of being on the new PRI?
WOW - GPS on the VZW 6800 that works!!!
This took about 2 hours to get done but right now it seems to be worth every minute.
I've tried all of the fixes, some kinda silly - felt like I was being told to sling a cat over my head in the front yard.
BUT THIS ONE GETS LOCKS AS FAST AS MY SPRINT TOUCH!!!!!
I am using 3.2.6 and the 3.42.4 radio after following the above (I have kept the new PRI).
I thought I was getting something wrong. Then I tried the GPS 5 miles apart, rebooted, tried again - same results 5 or 6 sat lock in less than 30 seconds.
I'll continue to monitor in the next couple of days and report any change. But darn - WOW!!
Finally flashed
Well I finally flashed to the DCD rom and radio today. I flashed radio 3.42.50 and DCD 3.2.6. I finally decided to flash for the GPS, but I guess that isn't gonna happen since I had previously flash the VZW MR1 update to a stock phone. I went through the titan gps fix and everything went as the wiki said it should. But I have no working gps. I assume this is because of the 2.03_002 PRI without ever having flashed before.
I've read quite a few gps threads and I think all my settings are ok, but I can't seem to get it working. Any ideas?
BENLANE, just to I understand... you upgraded to the new official VZW ROM, and then changed to DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.40? What bootloader are you using?

I don't know how else to test but I've tried to make it fail - soft resets, moved around 5 miles etc. I tried it again a few minutes ago - almost instant using Live Search.

Like I said above, I've done virtually everything short of slinging a cat above my head in the front yard. I've tried 'em all. The registry edits, the 3 additional files, use of the GPS toggle, etc etc. It always lead me to believe that whatever was needed was on Verizon's end. With the PRIs, I believe we have it.
Based on past experiences, this may not work tomorrow but for today - COOL RUNNINGS.
So simple answer, I don't think a registry edit will get it. I believe it is a combination of the PRIs, the unlocker, the radio and most of all the terrific ROM from DCD. He's the real deal.

I havent read all the posts in this thread but it sounds like you locked out GPS functionality when going from the MR1 update to a custom rom. When you upgraded with the MR1 update, you installed a new version of the PRI. It appears that this version locks out GPS functionality, even with a custom rom.
You might want to check out gc's thread from hell for more info on this and how to go about getting back the old PRI. Its time consuming but works. There are supposedly other methods but not many have had success with them.

Absolutely cannot get GPS to work on xv6800. Help!!!

Okay, I've looked around the forums and tried a number of things. I started out wondering if I should install the new update. Got to looking around and decided to just install a custom rom. Was a little weary because of my experience with the xv6700. Anyway. Ran SPL Unlocker to install 2.40 Oilpro. Installed the Radio 3.27.00 and dcd 2.1.0....did a *228 and then my phone would not pick up service. Tried a few things but since I was in a hurry just ran the vzw update and it fixed it. Later I come back and decided to try an do this right. So I run the RadioRefurbish. It worked and rolled me back to 1.35_002. Still no GPS. I've tried everything including this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix
Still no change. I do not get a fix. I mean GPS Viewer can see the GPS but I never get anything from it. I have a bluetooth GPS and can get a fix inside on a cold start in 5 min max. I left this thing for hours. Indoor, in the car, etc... nothing. I'm at a loss. I am currently running SPL 2.40 Oilpro. Radio 3.42.02 and dcd 3.2.3. With PRI 1.35_002. I had read of success with the new vzw PRI and NueSpl 2.47. Tried to install 2.47. Gives me checks on all of the prequisites and then when I continue it goes into the bootloader and displays spl 2.07 I have to then soft reset and if I go back to the bootloader it's still 2.40. I am at a loss and would really like to get this working. Any suggestion from any of you oober smart people out there would be great or just someone that might know what else to try.
P.S. Thought about trying to flash back to the original rom but had read where that can easily brick my phone. So that's about the only thing I haven't tried.
oober? lol...
First, what guide were you using that had you using such an outdated bootloader, radio, and rom?!
Secondly, am I to understand that you ran the new MR1, WinMo 6.1 from Verizon, with the new PRI? If so, I would try GC14's fix, he has a thread on it, to roll you back to the old PRI.
Thirdly, definetly use NueSPL 2.47 for flashing. Grab the newest radio, 3.42.50. Flash that. Grab the newest dcd, 3.2.6, flash that. Then install the Verizon Carrier Cab. Then do a *228 option 1. Call verizon *611 if need be, to re authenticate the phone if you can't make calls or use data.
Fourthly, go into the Phone control panel, and Get Settings on the Location option. Make sure location is enabled.
Fifth, do the new aGPS fix that was posted by gc14.
Lastly, get a program like Google Maps that is known to be highly compatible with GPS. Set it's GPS options to COM4, 4800 baud. And enable Use GPS. After initializing GPS for about 15 seconds, you should see a very fast lock of about 5-20 seconds or so with the new aGPS fix.

Is that even a GPS enabled rom?
Why are you using such an old rom?
PRI rollback really required?
Is the PRI roll back really required? I went from the MR1 update to DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.42.40 and got GPS working without rolling back the PRI. My process was;
1. Titan GPS Fix (almost the same as AGPS fix wiki)
2. PRI from hell (only did first step, flashing back to stock)
3. Fix from PPCGeeks (My GPS did not work at all till I did this)
4. Verizon xv6800 aGPS Fix
As far as the PPCGeeks fix goes, I'm now using the PDE IP & port# in the SUPL_AGPS keys in the registry, long with GPSMODE=4. Everything seems to be working great. Maybe I'm just a fluke.
The stock rom I flashed back to when I started the PRI from hell fix was VzW_titan_20273_a2.rar (I think this is the right one, only one I found on my laptop that seems big enough). Now that I think about it I did do the second step on the PRI from hell, I changed my bootloader to 2.40, and reloaded DCD 3.2.6.
i believe that guide would be from PhoneNews as its still one of the top results for "GPS on HTC Titan." Of course no one reads that there is an updated guide, but even that isn't that recent (around release time of 3.35). plus, they give ZERO credit to DCD or anyone on any forums, and took if upon themselves to host all the downloads, and not link to the forums where these originated.
3.42.50 has issues with gps on some phone for some reason. flash with the sprint radio and it will work with out issue.

Well, not saying it's a better fix, just the one that got mine working. But thanks to the xda-dev forums it went from a searchlight to a laser beam.
I've got a solution for GPS on the MR1 release for the xv6800. I should hopefully have a full release soon, but there is hope if you're stuck and unable to get anything except (possibly) VZ Navigator working due to the firmware being placed into locked down GPS mode.

I was able to roll back to PRI 1.35_002 using Radiorefurbish. I would love to install nuespl 2.47, but how. I downloaded it, ran it. It formated my card and ran. Reboots into the bootloader with a spl of 2.07 and just stays there. When I soft reset, reboots as normal. If I enter the Bootloader after that it's still 2.40. I've tried it from a few different Roms thinking that maybe there was an issue. BTW, How bad (dangerous) is it to flash back to original stock. It's about the only thing I haven't tried. I had read that going back to a non GPS rom is a bad idea.

The reason you are stuck in 2.07 could be because of your sd card. try a different card. SanDisk works really well with them.

I had the same problem trying to use nuespl 2.47. I just kept getting stuck at that screen. soft resetting and trying again. I gave up for a few hours... and came back to it and with absolutely no rhyme or reason, it just decided to work one time... I was also using the SD card method with a 2gig micro. I hope it just decides to work for you.

Do you need to use a relocker before flashing the stock rom? Edit: NVM this
Also, can you share VzW_titan_20273_a2.rar somehow? Any search for it only brings me back to this thread :\... Thanks
Just use the gc14 guide to roll back to the old PRI as stated and be done with it...
3.42.50 radio works fine with GPS, doubly fine with the aGPS hack.

I should have room to upload it on my comcast account. I'll PM you a link when it's done. Standard warning that flashing back to stock has bricked phones (from what I've read). Didn't happen to me, just saying.
Flashing back to MR1 should work. From what I have been told, the problem occurs if you flash to a pre-GPS version after having upgraded to a GPS-enabled version.

ah yes... MR1 would be no problem, but I believe pri from hell fix first step is referring to the pre-MR1 stock (if I'm not mistaken). so I see where animez is coming with the warning. At that step, all you can do is hope for the best I suppose...
Ive flashed back to the ut of the box" stock rom form the SD card several times with no issues at all.
now as far the radio i don go below 3.xx
I still cant get my GPS to work after i updated my PRI, even before i updated it was very hit or miss, I would get 10 sec locks or none at all for days

Can't get aGPS to work at all...

I just replaced my xv6800 through Verizon's warranty and after upgrading the phone can not get the aGPS to work no matter what I try. Here is what I have...
SPL-2.47No2Chem Titan SPL EVT
ROM: 3.08.666.1 (PPC Kitchen ROM)
Radio: 3.42.50
PRL: 0003
PRI: 2.03_002
ERI Version: 4
With the same ROM and Radio I can get the old phone to connect and find sats... but the new phone won't see anything.
I have reset the phone (R to reset), reflashed the radio, performed the Verizon AGPSFIX, used PPST to rewrite the PRI (and then did the AGPSFIX again) but nothing is working.
Does anyone have any ideas? I can't figure this one out.
Thanks!
The MR1 PRI blocks gps. You must do the below link to get gps for a custom roms working after MR1. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=834294&postcount=4 There is no way around it. The pregps rom will give you PRI 1.35.002 which doesn't block gps. And i think you list the wrong pri because 0003 is probably the hardware version.
Thanks drewcam888! That fixed it!
Doesn't *228 opt 1 update the PRI? I did that a long time ago to revert back to the GPS ROM and never put the MR1/2 on my phone and i'm back at PRI 2.03_002 PRL = 51345
I get GPS fine but no aGPS anymore. I am using Telus IP info.
Ignore this. I accidentally hit reply and not edit
*228 updates the PRL not the PRI. Also if you have a data connection then you can get some gps to work with PRI 2.03 but only on MR1 not with a custom rom.

That's strange. I've followed Joshkeller77's tutorial after I got a replacement phone last September which had MR1 on it had had working aGPS on it up until around April when VZW was having issues with their aGPS IP which then I switched over to Telus's IP. It really hasn't worked the same since then. I've only updated my phone with Scott's/Bitserve/RyanMogul ROMS since last Sept.
Can't get it to work

Okay, so I have MR1, the PRI is 2.03_002, I've installed the Valhalla, the HTC GPS Tool and I cannot get a sat lock on anything. Indoors, outdoors, moving or not, I can't get a lock to save my life. According to the instructions by Skywing and GC 14, I don't have to do anything else...but what am I doing wrong?
GPS working on telus ROM
Thank you to all the posts I really don't know which steps made it work, I bricked the phone a couple of times but thanx to the information gathered from posts HERE!!! GPS is working on a telus ROM using Goggle Maps on my HTC P4000 (tita100 etc...) ROM 3.54.661.1 radio 3.42.40 program port 5 GPS hardware port 4 (or window managed)
Just some things that worked for me in the end GPS enabled sweet
