Canadian Touch Dual with GPS? - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

As I mentioned in a previous thread a week or two ago, the Canadian market was due a release of the Touch dual which allegedly has GPS enabled (Neon 400?):
http://gpsobsessed.com/mobile-gps/canadians-get-htc-touch-dual-via-bell-mobility-gps-enabled/
This apparently has been available since last week, so does anyone have one? Is the GPS confirmed?
I haven't heard anything about this touch dual version on these forums, but presumably there is a chance that the radio (or parts of it) may be ported to other Touch dual versions to enable GPS, or does this new version have extra hardware?

From what i have seen on this forum, the touch dual has a gps in it, but do not have a gps antenna... so I think canadian touch dual are new unit with new hardware wich mean we can't expect to enable gps on other touch dual phones.

yes... i too guess it has a special antenna built inside. But MAYBE previous neons ALREADY HAD this antenna? AFAIK the Dual that was disassembled in the Wifi thread has been a different one...

Yah
Hey,
I have one of those duals' from Telus it does infact have gps on it. Only problem is no roms avalible anywhere.

I can confirm 100% that GPS works on the Canadian Neon400 Touch Dual with Telus. Just follow the instructions here that were originally written for the HTC Touch:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=31437
Do not download the rom. Start at the "QPST GPSOne Settings" section.
I'm now rocking TomTom 7 using AstroGPSLauncher, and it works. Locks take longer than my old Touch, but at least it works... with the stock Telus rom.

I once read somewhere that there is a program that can extract the ROM into a microSD card, utilising 2577 folder for self-executing when inserted. I'll come back with a link if I can find it again.

Somebody needs to find this so we can extract the SPL from the Neon400. You would have to compare the SPL to the other Neons and figure out what's different and why we aren't able to unlock it yet. Hope you can find it.
EDIT: It appears you cannot extract the SPL from the device, you have to extract it from a shipped ROM. I do not believe there have been any updates made available for either the Bell or Telus Neon400s. Are there any other providers of this phone that might have released an update that would provide an SPL?

HTC Advantage 7510 no 3G
Anyone make a fix for the 3G in the US? I use AT&T and they have the same UMTS bands as the phone's claimed specs but AT&T said it won't work. So, I know that some patches or roms have been created to fix other phones with this same problem. Has someone done something similar for the 7510?
Quincy
It could be also a BATTERY problem.
In the Excalibur section device shutting down while trying internet connection is a well known problem due to battery problem. A lot of power requested (CPU, radio) old or defective battery.... shut down!

Australian Network Original ROMS - Updated 3 Jan 09

Hi to all budding cooks!
I have links here - thanks to HTC e-Club Australia - for those who wish to download the original signed ROMS for three of the four Australian mobile network providers: Optus, Vodafone and 3 Mobile. Unfortunately the folks at HTC haven't seen fit to publicly release a Telstra-specific ROM for the Next-G network, or else I'd have a link here for that too.
The ROMs available from the links below include the radio in the package, and will install it along with the network-specific stuff for each provider.
Click on the link to start your direct-to-PC download:
Hutchison Telecoms - 3 Mobile (this is the latest one, released on December 4, 2008)
Optus and Vodafone Networks (this is the same one HTC released on October 27, 2008 - no other update for Optus/Vodafone available as of January 3, 2009)
Links also added to the Raphael Wiki Page
Hope these can be of help to someone.....
Thanks for these. Have you tested any of them
Optus / Vodafone ROM
OK I have flash to this rom and so far so good.
It's a fully unbranded rom. Not even the program shortcuts in touchflow have been inserted.
This upgrade has fixed a main problem of mms for me where I can now send and receive mms again. I could not do this with.405 WWE rom. Radio is the the stock radio and I have had not improvment here in AUS and will upgrade to .28 or .32 shortly.
No speed diffrence and you will need to redo your confiqs again or restore from backup

Only the 3 Mobile and Optus ones, and both work well. Haven't tried the Telstra ones, 'cos I hate Telstra and everything they stand for. My only dislikes are the telco's brandings everywhere on the 3 Mobile ROM, other than that they run exactly like the stock HTC ROM.
As for the radio I'm using with Optus, it's 1.02.25.32, and here in Newcastle it's clear as crystal. Send/receive MMS is fine, and SMS goes on GSM like it always has with Optus.

Great thanks. Yes I am using the Optus one as well and still on orignal radio and so far so good, only had issue restoring the backups would not reinstall the programs and settings which is a bit of a pain But the Rom feels faster after the settings applied then the orignal I had. I don't know why I could not get mms to work on orignal rom .405 I had all the correct settings and it would never send now it's like perfect again.
Will upgrade radio next as .19 always has some lagg in connecting to the network

Not sure, mate. Seeming though I live in Australia, I haven't been able to set up my computer somewhere in the UK and get my hands on a Vodafone UK edition Raph to test it. Maybe you could test it yourself, see how it goes, and post your results here.
There's nothing to worry about. Only one of four things could happen, and all of them are reversible.
(1) The flash is a failure: you brick the phone. Elsewhere in this forum are threads committed to helping those with bricked phones;
(2) The flash is a success, but you don't like the look, feel and speed of the ROM post-install;
(3) The flash is a success, but the Radio/modem isn't working well for you on your particular network, or
(4) The flash is a success and the whole thing works to your satisfaction.
Trial and error is the key to advancement. You will get nowhere if you don't try, and you always have here a number of others with the same device, to help you out of a bind if you get stuck. Great minds think alike, and as Dr. Conrad Zimsky said in 'The Core', "That's all science is, is best guess..."
cheers mate, my only worry is bricking. im new to winmo so all the flashin is new to me.

I suggest first and foremost you go to the Raphael Elite Team Thread and grab the HardSPL from there. For further instructions on how not to brick your phone, check out this thread. If you haven't already, install ActiveSync 4.5 for Windows XP, or Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista. Make sure you download and install the correct version for your operating system, as there are 32- and 64-bit variants.
Connect your phone to your PC through whatever Sync application you installed, then Flash your phone with the HardSPL first. Trust me, I've done it myself and it works, as long as you follow the instructions the boys have left in a text file included in the *.zip's you'll grab from that thread. After that, it's all smooth sailing. Installation of ROM's from wherever you decide to grab them is a risk each time you do it, but make sure that if the ROM's chef has specified a certain Radio to use with what he's cooked, that you Flash that to your device first then hard-reset, then Flash the ROM.
Hope this has helped a little bit.....

Try going back to the original SPL that you can grab from the same place you got the unsigned from. Then try flashing with the Vodafone/Optus one I've posted links to @top of thread.
same error. everything back to stock & nothings bricked so no biggy. i wanted the radios more than anything because i get pretty sucky reception at home but vodafone say i shudnt. oh well, no harm done a least.

As far as I am aware, the device flicks between whatever frequency is available. That is, if the 900MHz band is there, then it uses it, but when the 2100MHz band is around, it'll switch to that one. I was happy with that stock Optus ROM in my Raph, using my Optus SIM card, but have gone back to the T.I.R. (PDM) one simply 'cos I like it.
My Raph is an original outright device bought from 3 Mobile - with the 3 generic ROM installed - but because I jumped from a stock Vodafone service to Optus ('cos Vodafone here in Newcastle are not providing 3G/HSDPA) I chose a ROM I liked the look of.

Hi, this is an interesting discussion about band freq's here...
I'm running 1.02.25.19 with ROMeOS 1.21 WWE and I see the following options:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
I'm with Vodafone. I do not experience any call quality issues, slow call connection or internet speed issues... so I'm not too sure if this changes anything considering Vodafone mainly uses 1800 and they're still in the process of running out 900MHz.
FWIW... I tried running Radio 1.02.25.28 but I did experience issues with my camera, which is why I'm back on .19

Question: Flashing radios on AT&T Fuze

I've looked through countless posts and on the wiki and have yet to find the answer to this question. If it has been answered and I missed it, I'm sorry... I'll look harder next time.
I just purchased a Fuze from a good friend of mine who works in an AT&T corporate store. Since this version supports the US 850mhz 3G band, I need to know if I will loose that support or possibly brick my phone by flashing a radio from a version of the Raphael that does not support this band.
Thanks again for the help.

no no no ... you can't swap gsm radio rom to a cdma phone ... it won't work and you might end up bricking your phone.
i believe what the op is asking if he will loose us 3g ability if he flashes a european 3g radio rom that doesn't support the att 3g band. And imo i think yes you will loose 3g by doing that. If this was avoidable than everyone who bought a international rapheal could have been using it here in states with att/tmobile 3g...

Doesn't Olipro's Raphael Unlocker do just that? Are you saying that you just haven't done this yet or that this program needs to be updated for the Fuze? Also I noticed the SPL version is 1.95.0000 on my Fuze, not 1.90. Do you think it is safe to flash RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_1_90_3? Happy to test my new Fuze but just need a little reassurance first I'm not likely going to brick this new puppy. Thanks.

Anyone tried the Rhodium radio on the Touch Pro to enable Tmobile 3g bands?

Hi, has anyone separated the radio from the Rhodium Tmobile rom and tried flashing it to their Touch Pro? I was wondering if this would enable the Tmobile 3G bands because I am assuming they both have very similar hardware. I have the HTC Fuze if anyone was wondering.

Yeah someone did and they bricked their device if I'm not mistaken.
Read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497270
Man I thought it hasn't been done yet. Well, maybe someone can figure out how to do it. Maybe it was just a bad radio? I was reading through the Rhodium rom thread and it seems like they have gotten corrupted rom uploads before so maybe he extracted it from a corrupted source.
i hate to break it to you but it can't be done. the might have similar hardware but to date, there has never been a successful band change on any phone, ever. there is no chance as the radio version doesn't even affect the radio's frequencies. no matter what radio you flash, you will never be able to get Tmobile 3G from a phone that doesn't come with the 1700 or 2050 (We should come up with a name for this band because it's different from the rest of the world's 2100). I know the Fuze has the 2100 band but it is the rest of the world's version. Maybe in the future someone will figure this out.

DON'T DO IT!!! SERIOUSLY.
Yes, it was me who bricked his phone trying it. A simple look at the Radio number is a dead giveaway that the radio is completely different. But hey, if you'd like to brick your phone like I did, give it a go.

The radio is incompatible with the phone. I was able to flash the phone fine, but because parts of the Rhodium radio stack appear to occupy the same memory area as the Fuze bootloader, the bootloader got corrupted by the flash, and my phone became a semi-brick.

Well, you can surely ask around, but P1Tater likewise bricked his phone trying to flash a Rose radio that was also incompatible. The same thing happened to him (corrupted bootloader).
I don't think there's anything wrong with the Rhodium radio from that ROM, but once the new 3.44 Radio is available, go ahead, have fun with it. I'm sure we'd all like to know what happens.
Yes, do NOT do it.
The Bootloader is launched by the OEMSBL or Radio Boot loader, with this overwritten you are toast. This is not a Tilt, so entry into the secure area is roughly impossible.
The rub is that if you do it you are screwed because the only way to recover envolves opening the device, finding the right place to solder & buy yourself a Jtag box.
Closing this thread so it fades away... hopefully everyone will heed the words of the Captain.

Difference between the Telus and Bell Touch Dual?

I am thinking of getting a CDMA Touch Dual and am wondering what the difference is between the Telus Touch Dual and the Bell Touch Dual.
What are the differences?
What are the specs?
Does it have wifi?
Does it have built-in GPS?
I am in the US and am going to put it on Alltel.
I am going to purchase it in 24hours so please respond to this.
Thank You,
Mannie (81344songz)
I believe they're the exact same phones - NEON400's. I just purchased the HTC Touch Dual from Telus, and it's running a 528mhz Qualcomm 7501A, CDMA with GPS enabled but no Wi-Fi. Bell's HTC Touch Dual should be identical.

are they both the same color?
is it a good phone in your opinion?
is it better than the mogul?
I have an Alltel PPC6800/Mogul/Titan
They are the exact same phone (I'm with Bell), although it's possible that the different carriers may have locked different features.
I haven't found anything that's been 'locked' really, although I will tell you that since this is a smaller run phone, the normal touch dual accessories don't fit quite right.
eg.
The camera is horizontal instead of it's GSM sister which is vertacle
The charger/data port is on the bottom instead of the side like the GSM version.
Because of features like this; the generic cases and cradles don't work without a little elbow grease modification
All in all though; I'm quite happy with the phone as it doesn't cause me many issues that you don't see in many other phones. I just can't wait for a HardSPL to actually work so we can start getting some custom ROMS
Hope that helps
