Updating the carrier banner -- QPST write error - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

A long while ago I flashed to a Sprint ROM and didn't catch the customization in time so I ended up with a Sprint branded phone.
Finally got around to messing with the phone again and when I use QPST to change the banner back to my carrier I get an error message when I try to write to the phone.
It says something like NV_PPP_Password and NV_Status_S (sorry I don't have the phone with me at the moment.)
Anyone have any ideas?
I looked at the PPP settings and for the username it has all zero's for my MIN but the correct MIN information is present. I get a similar error (NV_PPP_Username) when I try updating it.

ROM Update went terribly wrong!!! please help

Hello all,
Last night, I tried updating my Rom on a sprint mogul to the recent dcd 2.2.6 and 3.27 radio.
I followed the steps of taking down the information, finding my unlock code, unlocking, and updating both roms.
It went with no problems. However my MSID was reset so i had to enter my unlock code that i got from get spc. before i reflashed my device, i checked to see if the code worked by trying to enter and edit epst.
But in windows 6.1 the unlock code didnt work, my msid and mdn were set to all 0.
I called sprint they gave me the same unlock code that didnt work.
So i tried reflashing back to the original sprint official release, that didnt work, i was getting an error 328 from the ruu.
I tried reflashing again dcd 2.2.6 rom, that worked but the radio wouldnt flash due to the same invalid command error 328 from the ruu.
So for a while i was stuck on the htc splash screen with a no radio display. I found a thread with a solution to the same problem. I flashed the leaked sprint rom 3.16, that worked and i was able to get up and running.
However in epst mode my hex and dec esn are all zeros. my original unlock code doesnt work, (the one from sprint), but when i enter in all 0 in getspc it generates the proper unlock code,
but i still can not connect to the sprint network even tho i am able to set my msid and msn to the correct values, my esn is still wrong (displays all zeros)
Can any please tell me if i can fix this, I was on the phone with sprint for 2 hrs with no avail. I need to set my esn on the phone to match my esn in hardware
Thank you,
Kevin
Okay, if I read your post right you do have your MSL number (unlock code) right? If you do, go to your keypad on the phone and dial ##3282# (##DATA#). It should ask you if you want to view or edit. Choose edit and type in your MSL number. On the main screen there should be an option on the left softkey that says "View Info". Choose that and then select "Advanced". At the top I believe you can edit your ESN number.
Hope that helps.

thank you for your reply.
I do have my unlock code. the ##data# shows the esn in advanced settings, but the box is greyed out and will not allow me to edit it.
It still shows 00000000.
Thank you, any other ideas, maybe a registy edit?
It sounds like something happened during the flash process. I talked to a PCS rep and they said you would have to bring it in and get it swapped. I can't think on any other way to get that info updated. Sorry.
no there is another way, you can sniff for the spc, the original thread about getspc had directions @ ppcgeeks

I went to a sprint tech and they said they i had to replace the phone, and they would order me a new one. but right now i have to wait the warehouse doesnt have any instock.
there is another way however, if it was erased by software, it can be changed by software.
I did not find anything relevant on the link above, i will keep looking through it. If someone could point me in a closer direction.
I do have my unlock code, currently all zeros, so im not looking to get my MSL number, im looking to change my ESN back to what it was, somehow it was set to all 0's during the rom update process.
Thank you,
Kevin
Perhaps you should change the thread title to something more specific to separate yourself from the masses who can't boot because they didn't upgrade their radio.
Perhaps try an RTN reset? This is a hard reset that erases provisioning data. I don't know if it can restore an ESN, but worth a try.

Is it just me or does something seem wrong with this quote. Read the instructions here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17667
The phone needs to have the unlocker program run to install a custom rom. The code from GetSPC allows you to edit the settings not unlock your phone.

Look i dont need any smart comments.
Well actually for your information, the MSL code is used to unlock your phone. the unlocker program is used to unlock your bootloader to accept a custom rom.
MSL - master subsidy lock, this locks network settings so that a user can not change them, the code given by getspc is stored in nV ram on the phone and is used to gain access to these files, thus "unlocking" the phone. unlocking the bootloader is another story...
anywho, i was able to get my phone working, i reprogrammed my esn, reprogrammed my MSL from all zeros to the proper value, and now my phone is back on the sprint network.
if you guys are interested i will write a tutorial on how i did this, just to respond to the other post, a hard reset does not restore esn data.
Good for you! I'm glad you figured it out. I would be interested on how you got it working again.

This would be a handy bit of knowledge as they go thru great lengths to keep it from being done. Ususally the filesystem for that section of the phone is locked and protected, requiring the QXDM (Qualcomm Extensible Diagnostic Monitor) software to get in. I have an older version that I used to use to play with older phones and it worked great, but a newer one would be needed for these phones. Old style glitch corruption will mess up any filesystem and even mess up protected areas, which is likely what happened to yours. I would love to know how you did it without QXDM ;-)Thanks.

Krazeintentz,
I would be very interested in your final fix for this problem. The exact same thing happened to me a while back and my only way out at the time was a replacement titan under warranty from vzw.
If we had your steps to recovery then we would be a lot closer to having a disaster recovery wiki.
As another poster said, yours was a real rom flashing problem as opposed to the numerous "brick" cases that we see everyday from just half done flashes. So it makes it all the more relevant that we have a wiki for this problem.
Regards
Since he has not said, heres a theory
The filesystem is protected from editing in the address range where the ESN resides. The QXDM software shows the actual file structure of the chipsets flash and the files have actual attributes and the ESN file is read only, so the EPST is not supposed to be able to edit the ESN (as this would be cloneing a phone and not legal). If you follow the steps in a flash memory update, you would see that the contents of these protected files are read, saved, and then the flash is totally erased, then written with the new revision, and finally the protected storage is written and the attribute is set to read only. The QXDM is required to manually unlock these attributes, but there is a key that allows the flash utility to erase the stuff. if the flash was interrupted either by hardware or software error at the point after the erase and writeback but before the write of protected file area, the ESN would be blank and also the EPST in the phone would be able to edit it in edit mode because the attribute is the very last thing written. I bet thats how he fixed it and now has a cloneable phone too and can change his ESN any time he wants, at least until he flashes the radio again which will fix the glitch by process. Thats probably what he did.
Hey guys Im a noob and im having a bit of problems
Im stuck in the bootloader screen
TITA100 MFG
SPL-2.40 Olipro
CPLD-9
My comp has windows vista premium so instead of activesync i have windows device center 6.1 I have unclicked allow USB connections
but i think my comp doesnt recognize that they the phone is connected at all although i do here the sound that lets me know that a usb device is connected
exitbl.exe doesn't work keeps telling me
cannot open USB port
Please make sure that USB connection in Activesync is disabled
Also make sure that your USB cable is properly connected
if it helps im on a bell phone

device information screen

im still having a problem connecting to sprint data service. i realized that the current username is my esn#@hcm.sprintpcs.com???? i dont know how it changed. i got my msl code and was looking through the epst screen but not sure what to change to get my username to change? any ideas?
run iota.cab either in your extended rom or found somewhere on here, then try to connect to the internet (maybe after a soft reset) then it will provision the data, then try to reconnect again and it should be ok.
i saw another post that said to do the settings>phone>services>internet>get settings but it wont start.
beat me to posting that unless there is a iota cab to run.
i found the iota on another site and it runs the iota now but im getting error 67 and 1012?

1012 means your username and password are incorrect and 67 is something to do with connection error or something along those lines. Make sure your power vision username and password are correct.

::Hero100 Unlock::

Hello everyone. I have one Hero100. I have the code for unlock but the phone has failed to unlock. It's locked on orange. When I enter the code , I get no service on the screen. and when I restart it, it asks for the unlock code again. How can I go about this? Its a bit strange.
sounds like orange gave you an incorrect code...
you have put a NON-orange sim in when you try this, yes?
if it fails again, go back to orange and ask for the correct code, as they have the wrong one.
The code is working. When I put the Code I get a successful msg but it wont pick up the network and also when it restarts it asks folr the code again.
The same
I have got the same problem.
I have got that unlock number but after unlocking phone, there is no range at all and info 'no service', but i am able to use 'Sim Toolkit'.
Where is a problem???
hi i'm having the same problem code is gud and it works but after that it says no servic. and when i restart or put any other sim again and turn on the phone it again asks for the code . whats wrong plz
I think not so many people have seen this phone.
I am also having this issue. Simlocked to Orange got my code and put it in and it was successful then it just stays on the 'unlocking sim' screen.
Been using HTC with windows mobile for years but decided to try android. Am I doign something wrong as I cant seem to access any phone fucntionality without putting a sim in then I get this problem we are having.
On a WM device you would still be able to access everything without having a sim in- just using it n PDA mode
, I am having the exact same problem. I have a HTC hero from orange as my contract phone. I have bought the unlock code from from swift unlock (ebay) and entered the code when prompted. The phone says the network is unlocked but the I can't get any network service, and if toggled the flight mode on and off or switched the phone off and on it will ask for the code again. If I put the orange sim in everything is back to normal. I even tried to hard reset the phone and have a fresh start while the unsupported sim is inserted but the same happens again with the addition of a message "unlocking sim". I thought the code was wrong or something, so I got the code again this time from a high street shop and it was the same code. So nothing is wrong with code itself. The guy at the shop told me that he has great problems with unlocking this phone as some seem to accept the code without any problems and others have this no service issue and he doesn't know the reason for it. I am thinking of flashing a new firmware and radio and see what happens, but this will be probably tomorrow. Sorry for my long post, but I wanted you to know that there is nothing wrong with code itself.
Yeah I dont think there is a problem with my code either. Im new to android but have been a winmo user for years, I havent rooted my Hero yet (only got it today) but that was going to be what I try next: root then network unlock.
Let us know what happens when you flash yours.
Possible Solution
When i unlocked my phone i thought the exact same thing, that it hadn't worked - it said no network, something something about my sim, etc. Later on though, I went outside and it was working. Unbelieveable i thought. Turns out when your in an area with no reception (my house) the Hero decides to boldly make sure you know that it's not getting any signal by giving you big scary messages
So once you've entered the unlock code, let it load up the UI fully, turn phone off, and then turn on again and put it somewhere you definately get a recpetion
Anyway this might answer your problems, then again might not.
Thanks for the suggestion but I dont think that is the problem in my case as I do get reception. Although for me once I have put the unlock could it it says success (or whatever) then goes to saying 'unlocking sim' it doesn't atually load up any interface.
Out of intereset where did you (all) your get your unlock code? I got mine from Unlock Now, anyone else got a code from them and can confirm it works?
Hi, I have flashed the new modaco 2.2 rom, and inserted the unsupported sim, but sadly with the same exact result "no service". I then flashed the latest radio from modaco, and repeated the steps but this time after the first time you put your unlock code it will say "no service as usual" but if you try to toggle flight mode on and off the phone will prompt for the code again and then it will greet you with a no sim is inserted or so, so it seems with the new radio the phone doesn't even detect your sim. If I put the orange sim everything is back to normal again even with the new radio.

[Q] Noob question: I've rooted and flashed how can I get my phone back to how it was?

Hi there, I think I may have messed the phone up a little, such as this MMI error message which comes up so I can't use speeddial, or any other # code for that matters, also I can't disable call forwarding, and a few other things.
This must have been the result of rooting, etc. Is there an easy way to get my phone back to how it was (basically how it would be straight from the manufacturer, no root at all, just exactly how it was when I first bought it brand new?), bearing in mind I have also flashed it 3 times?
Cheers.
it might help if you said what you flashed it with? Details.
But if you are just wanting to flash back to stock, here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Read, and follow the instructions. They are very clear.

"Hi there, I first of all rooted my previously straight out of the box T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 using the xwkdd_insecure.tar (with Odin and SuperOneClick - I am a complete noob by the way, but this seemed to work after I followed a YouTube video), so that I could then unlock it to use 3 Mobile (in the UK) which I am on - I had bought this phone brand new and sealed from eBay (someone's unwanted upgrade). I then went on to using the free ChainFire sim unlock app, however I soon discovered that after all my phone can't have been locked in the first place as I just got a 00000000 code, never had to enter that and my sim worked having not previously tested it... Then I went on to flash it by using this file first - I9100XWKE7_StockKernel.tar - after seeing another YouTube video to purely debrand it but this only got rid of the yellow ! logo which appeared after rooting it, that is all.
So I then went on to using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894
in order to debrand it of all T-Mobile stuff, such as the T-Mobile logo and trademark tune which came on after switching the phone on, and get it like a standard sim free/factory unlocked phone if you know what I mean. I used this file as mentioned in the link - I9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100XEUKD1_HOME.TAR
The latter part of the guide goes on to entering #272*<IMEI># or something like that, but I have tried that all of the other alternatives and all I get is "USS code running" and like 2 seconds later the error message
"Connection problem or invalid MMI code" appears. I basically can't enter anything in my phone dial with # or * or whatever. What is wrong?
I have also noticed that whenever I call someone a message saying "Conditional call forwarding active" appears, but then proceeds to make the call okay. I have tried to disable and fiddle around with the call forwarding settings, phoned my network provider, but again, error messages come up.
What exactly is wrong and how can I fix it - I am a bit of a noob with all this....? It is surely something to do with all that stuff I have mentioned. Please help me as I honestly don't know how to go about fixing this. What is the most straightforward thing to do which will stop these messages?
Last of all, I flashed using the following, my phone seemed to be auto-rooted as I never had to root again? I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1.tar
Thanks in advance."

[Q] Cannot enter SMSC Number. Please help.

I am unable to send sms but can receive on my rooted Galaxy Note N7000.
When I check the Phone Information by dialing *#*#4636#*#*, the SMSC: field is blank.
If I click on refresh, it returns "00".
If I attempt to enter the number manually it just returns "update error".
I'm assuming that the number should be stored on the SIM card and for some reason the phone can't read/access the stored number. This happened once before after rooting the phone and all I had to do then was hit refresh and update. I did see that the SMSC field was blank when I re-checked it later, though, but sms was working correctly.
I tried installing Gingerbread 2.3.6. The Settings > About Phone confirms 2.3.6
but
1. it made no difference to the SMSC problem I describe above
2. all my settings, data and apps are still there.
3. the phone is still rooted.
I assumed all that would get wiped with a f/w upgrade. The instructions I followed said the phone would be reverted to non-rooted. I guess I must have got something wrong.
I talked to a guy at my local telco today. He spotted that the phone was rooted so was quick to blame that (maybe correctly) as the cause. However, when I showed him the settings page revealed by the *#*#4636#*#* string, he thought this was some software app I'd installed myself and not the phone's f/w till he typed the string on his own phone and saw it for himself.
Can anyone suggest a fix? Un-rooting? Wait for the next official Android upgrade for my phone/region?
Thanks in advance
Trevor
