Help needed. - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Last week I stupidly decided to change the rom with no need to do so. I went from the Tax/Irus over to the MichyP rom. After an many problems, (wifi dropping, hanging, slow response.) I went back to the Tax/Irus rom. (I had re-downloaded Michy's rom from different sources and tried re-flash after re-flash but just gave up on the rom in the end.
After the reinstall of my Tax/Irus 3.5 rom and a restore from a sprite backup my phone was back to how it was except for the fact that Michy's splashcreen is still there when I reset?
Now I find that it will no longer accept a sim card. I just get the "No Sim Inserted" message. (I have tried other sims too and nothing works). I also checked the connection pins inside and they are making contact with the card.
I am totally lost with where to go now.
Any help or ideas would be welcome.
Matt

Phone Gaaawnnnn!
The sim connector appears to have bitten the dust. Arse!
Called HTC worldwide service center and began the jumping through hoops bit until I mentioned I was a member of xda-devs. The process instantly changed for the better as the very nice lady dropped all the retard questions like, "do you know how make a call?" and said "Right I'll open up a repair ticket immediatly, we'll have this back to you (in the arctic) within 7 days of you sending it!"
I also told her all the nice things I had done to the phone such as unlocking, housing swap, radio upgrades and a rom install. She said it would be no problem as those things should not affect the problem I have with the unit.
God I love HTC. Could you imagine that sort of service with a modded iphone? NFW!

i would expect the exact opposite frm htc.
thats why there are so many guides for downgrading hard spl, people asking if you can go back to stock spl, links to stock roms etc.
im sure if my iphone was screwed, i could just take it back to an apple shop and get a replacement. though thats just speculation based on my mates ipod. had some weird smile face with crosses for eyes, took it to the shop, and got a refurbished (but looked brand new) one right then.
Rory

That face means the iPod is dead. My brother dropped one in a toilet. After a few weeks of not working at all, it did that face, but Apple wouldn't replace it (I don't know why - I wasn't involved). I know a few people who've broken their iPhones too, and Apple has been funny about replacing them. You're such a fanboy, Rory.
(I've never had to contact HTC for help, so I can't say anything about their services).

ha, had the same face on a mac computer, and found out there was no way for me to get it back up and running again unless I paid $400 , apple wouldn't replace and it would cost me that much to fix it. I said NO!!!
I'm all PC now, no more am I crossing between a mac and pc. mac hardware are too damn expensive, no way will I pay a premium on hardware for the mac when I can get better hardware for a fraction of the cost for my PC boxs.

Finding my MDA Vario 2 less reliable that it was

I have had my MDA Vario 2 for about 7/8 months and it is getting on my nerves. I replaced my MDA3 with this but actually it is far less reliable.
I like the kit in general but it has taken a hammering and it isn't behaving that well. I find that I have not enough internal memory and always have problems synching emails in subfolders which is something I really need as far as functionality. It always reverts to not using the memory card and then just stops doing the subfolders. There are lots of other small problems with it too that re bugging me.
Has anyone tried to change handsets with Tmobile UK long before an upgrade is avaiable and had any luck. Has anyone got any tips. It isnt insured and has obviously got scratches and marks so I wont be able to say it is a manufacturers problem although it generally is just a poor performer and always has been.
ANy ideas from anyone.
not a chance
I upgraded early after my Motorola V3i packed up, it was sent for repair under warranty but they wouldn't fix it as they said it was water damaged. I'd previously been told I could have an early upgrade if it couldn't be fixed, so I phoned up and was then told I couldn't have one. I went through to get PAC codes to transfer my numbers to another network and they suddenly decided I could have an SE 880i and Vario 2 for free (£50 and £110 on my tarrifs)
So my advice is say that someone told you you could have an early upgrade and then threaten to leave when they refuse... the people who deal with leavers are much more generous than the people at customer services
I'll see how it goes
I have sent an email to them telling them how unhappy I am with the phone and asking what they can do for me as a business customer. If I dont hear from them I will email my contact from last time.
It has a new trick now. Ever time I activesync it - it changes it mind about what it syncs so yesterday whilst out working and needing to check an email - it wasn't there because it had decided not to do the subfolders. It caused me a lot of problems.
I was unhappy with it, but decided it was so useless that my only option was to follow the guides here and upgrade.
I upgraded to windows 6 and unlocked the handset too following a guide on mrvanx for shaps rom.
I am a total layman and managed to do it , and am 95 percent please with the results. The 5 percent is that I saw one or two things the phone is not doing, but otherwise its a million times better than before.
I did this in the knowledge that if I bricked the handset, then there was a bucked of water nearby that it 'could've accidentally fallen into', and theoretically I am entitled to a new phone under insurance which would be the case if one was to have an 'accident'.

Sending it for repair

Hi,
I searched this topic and got a couple of hits but I have a couple of specific questions about this.
My phone is rooted and S-OFF (and everthing else it says in my sig) I been having problems for quite some time now and I'm so fed up with this phone (and losing faith in HTC just because of it) that I even considered melting it with my oxiacetilene torch.
So before having another one of those episodes I think I'd like to try to send it to HTC to see if they can repair it.
I bought it from Negri Electronics and I'm using it in central america so I don't think I have any waranty cover.
My question is do I need to revert it to stock before I send it or they would look at it if I send it as is now?
Is there any type of warranty for me?
What should I do? (Just in case, my phone suffers of a severe black screen issue that it does not go away even with stock RUU)
Sometimes I need to press the power button like 20 times to get the screen on ( this is the thread on my problem) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067514&highlight=black+screen
I'm pretty sure it has to be HW related because it used to work ok but one day started acting out (got corrupted after a complete battery drain) and since that day it never worked well again. I tried different roms and none of them make it go away not even in stock ruu.
Thanks for any info
Jose (the developer of some of the aokp and cm roms) has added a flash able for allowing the camera button to wake the screen.. Try that first.. Read up..
Also tmobile ics wakes on camera press
Sig:
What do you mean I can't say that??!!.. It's the fkin Internet!
Thanks, the NRG rom does that too but I get the same result just capacitive lights coming on (and only half of them the other half have gone bad)
I think I'll revert to stock and give them a call to see what they say and if they can give me a quote for the repair.
Finally today my screen died completely.
The phone works but the screen is dead, I sent an email to HTC we'll see if they can quote me for the repair and if it's worth the trouble.
The only problem is that my phone is S-Off and unlocked so I don't know if they will repair it.:fingers-crossed:
After talking with CS they told me that changing the screen would cost $145 but if they need to change the whole MB it would go up to $340 so I just decided not to do it and risk buying one in fleabay, we'll see how this one works out.

but anyway to answer your question I put that in my signature sometime ago (even before they started calling it HTC ONE when it was just a rumor of a phone), at that time I thought my problem was software related and not the screen agonizing, and anyway it seems like HTC seems to be the lesser of two evils.
I've had HTC phones for the last 6 years or so and I don't know where to go, I keep reading about Samsungs and the new experias but I always come back to what I know.
That's the reason I got this second cheap Amaze to hopefully last me another year and by then have a more clear view of how things moved with HTC and the market in general before I puke another $800+ in a phone.
I was waiting for the S4 anouncement but I'm not impressed with the specs, lots of nice gadgets but they are not good for what I'm looking in a phone.
Sony Experia... I know nothing of Sony phones, I'm reading as much as I can to learn about them, development availability and other factors
WOOHOO!!!!! I'm back online!!!!!
After the death of my Amaze I bought another one on the bay (cheaper than sending mine to HTC to get it repaired) and I just got it.
After going through the whole unlocking/rooting s-off, and other tweaks Ifinally got a phone again.
I was getting sick of the Moto razr V3 I was using.

[Q] Can you break your android os of a S2?

So maybe the question from the title is a little bit unclear.
The problem that i had with my phone is that one day, i got a message that a new android version appeared(4.1.2)...and obviously i clicked to download it. After the download and install when it was time to enter in my new version, a screen where a password was required appeared, saying something that my phone is encrypted, and a pass is needed to make i work...Problem is that i didn't have a previous password...
So anyway i restarted the phone...and android didn't even brought me to that screen...it just wouldn't load...So i decided to take matters in my own hands (not the best decision i made that day)...
I searched online how to do that...i found about odin..installed it ...and then tried to install android...Problem is that odin gave me errors when trying to upload the kit or something (i was in download mode with the phone)..when odin gave errors i either disconected the cable from the phone, or in some cases i got pissed off and removed the battery...
My question is...could i have broken my phone permanently by doing that ? Like i don't know...in a way..that neither an expert could fix it?
Thanks
You can scramble the NAND so badly it has to be replaced if a flash goes bad/you flash something you shouldn't be flashing (or if you do dopey things like pull a USB cable in the middle of a flash), and the way that's done is by replacing the motherboard, so you can certainly cause damage that costs money to repair, but it can pretty much always be repaired one way or another.
I seriously doubt you could bork a phone completely beyond all repair via firmware/software & without physically damaging components.
No physical damage was made to the phone...
Assuming all the alien language things that you said ...so the worst case scenario...do you have any idea how much a new motherboard would cost?
Varies widely depending on country/how much labor costs in your country. Samsung don't sell new motherboards on their own, you can either pay an authorised service centre to put a new one in (most expensive option, you normally keep your existing IMEI), or you can get a 2nd hand board from a broken/'donor' phone (How much you'll pay for one again highly variable depending on how much someone wants for their busted phone, search eBay/Google) & either swap it into your phone yourself, or if you're not confident with that sort of thing pay a local mobile repair shop to swap the boards for you (least expensive option, your IMEI will change to that of the phone the board came from).
Edit - If what I said in my PP was 'alien', I'd suggest you shouldn't have been messing with your phone in the first place & should probably avoid same when you get it fixed as well.

Long story short, Yes your device could be "Broken" in such a way that the only option is to replace the motherboard. You atleast tried reading and doing something, dude there are several thread regarding this matter try different strategies, try out your luck, ask questions, but don't get your hopes too high.
Sorry pal, I wish you the best of all the luck in this tiny planet of ours.
Edit : sorry I was too late, I actually started the reply almost after you posted it but I went away had a coffee then completed it.
Edit: lol to actually make a phone completely unrecoverable you might need a sledgehammer, no software related issue in the world can completely damage an electronic device(unless that software was related to triggering a nuke).

Advice for proving RAZR Maxx is broken?

I've got insurance for my cell phone through my credit card. If it breaks, they'll send me $250 to buy a new one. And my RAZR Maxx is definitely messed up.
The problem is, the problems are intermittent. And for me to make a successful claim, I have to get a technician to look at the phone and write a letter saying it's broken. I had to go through this process a couple of years ago with a Motorola Atrix that was clearly, obviously broken. And the technicians are always like, "what? what do you mean? what good is a letter like that going to do?" No matter how many times I try to explain to them. It's like they think I'm trying to trap them.
Anyway, is there anything short of throwing the phone off the top of my house that I can do to my phone that makes it easy to show to a technician and have him verify there are issues with it? I'd like not to destroy the phone in case my claim is denied. There are other criteria other than just proving phone is broken. And if the claim is denied, I may need to use the phone for a few more months till I can afford to buy a new one.
The phone is rooted. So I can install whatever software that needs the phone to be rooted. And I have asked in the past, rooting the phone does not cancel my insurance. The case is basically the cell phone insurance department doesn't seem very technologically savvy and don't have a lot of clauses you see when cell phone company's are describing cell phone warranties. Then they have other clauses that you would never see in a cell phone warranty.
If you want to know what's wrong with my phone, like occasionally, nothing it can do will it lock onto the GPS satellites, and I'm stuck somewhere trying to navigate my way to some place.. Occasionally it'll pop up on my screen saying "HDMI cable detected" and orient my screen sideways like if the phone were in a dock. It does this even though there's clearly no HDMI cable connected and I have turned HDMI detection off in the settings. Plus, the phone is just god awful slow a lot of times. Trying to use Chrome on the phone, a lot of times it'll hang and eventually I'll get the message "Chrome is not reponding", then I have options like do you want to wait for it, or go ahead and kill it.

Have you tried returning the phone to bone stock with a stock recovery image and rsd lite? Be fore warned, you will lose root but, you can get it back. Afterwards it will be like a new phone(faster, a lot less buggy and force closes) unless it is truly a hardware issue. I have a motorola xoom that started having serious issues, I went through the whole process, and it was like a completely new tablet when was done, battery life I hadn't seen in over a year, very responsive, it was like I had just unboxed it from the store.
Truthfully the technicians probably DO think you are trying to trap them when you are talking about intermittent problems. Intermittent problems are hard to diagnose with anything unless you can tell them a specific action or pattern of actions that leads up to the problem. I am sure they get a lot of people all the time with "it doesn't work right" claims to try to get money for a new phone.
IMHO it would be worth the shot to see if it legitimately has a goofy problem, or can be easily fixed at home.

Yeah, thanks Draxin. I've tried restoring to a factory image. And it seems to work okay for a couple of days before small things start back up. A couple of months later, the phone is as flaky as it ever was. It could just be software, that is possible. But it's not like I can go in and fix the software myself or anything. And I think hanging around the internet, looking for tweaks and fixes any more than I already have is really an unreasonable request by the insurance company.
What you say about an easily repeatable pattern, that's what I was hoping to figure out by posting here.
But getting no responses, I think I'm just gonna start my claim and when it gets to the point of proving it's broken, I'm just gonna microwave the phone. Googling all over the Internet that's the only advice people seem to offer.
Basically as it is now, I'm gonna have to pay for a new phone and hope this clumsy phone insurance through my credit card company makes good on my claim. I know I meet the criteria because I've read the policy. It's just the hoops they put you through to prove you meet the criteria that I'm worried about.

With a full wipe and stock motorola firmware? Or just a factory reset?
Either way wish you the best of luck
Yeah try using rsd to fully restore. I fixed a lot of my problems that way .

Very true. It is funny/sad. Spend some time on a site like this and it seems like everybody knows these things. Talk to your friend or the typical consumer of smartphones and it is foreign to them. They feed into the advertising that the newest and greatest will solve all their problems, not realizing they are falling into the same viscous circle. They will actually disbelieve you, cause... well come on, the phone is two years old! "The guy at my carriers store is surprised my phone still works. Sure he got the job two months ago, won't be there five from now and has no idea what a OTG cable is, or a independently powered usb hub but, still he works there.. so he must know what he is talking about! I am sure it has nothing to do with commission of sales!" (that was facetious, by the way)
I am curious how many people have thought that their smartphone was dying or to old because a factory reset didn't work(not talking about you lavender, I don't know what you have done to fix your device( guess I am semi-hijacking your thread)).
Motorola(or any device manufacturer for that matter) isn't going to tell the typical user that a firmware reflash is required to get a couple more years out of their device when they can sell a user (that won't waste the time to Google)another device. Certainly won't advertise it right next to their latest and greatest device. Really how many people outside of the power users or gamers REQUIRE a quad core processor with 1500-1800 mhz, or 2-3 gb of RAM. When typically, it will end up the same way in a years time, depending on how much they use it.
Porn doesn't require those specs!!!

[Q] Broken screen already

So I'm sending in my phone already to get the screen fixed, which broke by some weird accident. But I have unlocked, rooted and all that jazz. I know HTC is going to wipe my phone when they get it, but do you think I'd have any issue because I have modified the recovery? I restored back to the stock rom with nothing installed except SuperSU. I could understand if I had a problem with the hardware in the phone itself, but they should have no reason not to fix my broken screen which has nothing to do with firmware or unlocking. I've already reset the phone myself which has no personal information. I haven't even set up my google account on it.
I think reports have been mixed on whether HTC honors the screen replacement warranty on modded phones (bootloader unlocked, etc). Return the device to as close to stock as possible, and hope for the best is probably all you can do.
One person on here has mentioned that while the "regular" device warranty mentions that modding the phone may void the warranty; the "add-on" screen replacement warranty does not make any mention of this. So that may be an point of argument in your favor.
I will HOPE as hard as I can. Might have to shell out $200 at the local repair shop. It would bother me though if it was rejected and all I want fixed is the screen, they have no buisness messing with my phone other than testing to make sure the screen works.
HTC will fix the screen either way, the warranty question just determines whether they charge you or not. I think the charge is $250 if the warranty is not honored. So not much more than your local shop is going to charge. Plus, I think taking the phone apart is tricky, so I'd probably trust HTC to do it more than a local vendor. I've seen some real hack jobs on the One X (which is polycarbonate not metal, but similarly difficult to disassemble) by random repair shops. Although of course the quality of workmanship by repair shops will vary, and I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there.
HTC is refusing to replace my screen even though I flashed the stock ATT RUU back on the device. They claim that they can't test the Screen panel after it's been replaced because "security is off" on the device. I called them out on it and they have been going back and forth with the engineering department and repairs and still claim that because the security is off they can't replace the screen because they can't test it. But if I pay $290 they'll replace the main board as well. I even had to agree to try a partial repair and still no.
isn't the diagnostic tool a dialer pad code they enter?
I been on hold for 45minutes now waiting to talk to someone...

any update on what happened bro?
i heard that if you tell them the screen was cracked due to physical damage and clearly no software installed on the phone had any impact on the screen cracking they would fix it... im currently on a fuzz not sure what to do, i cracked my screen earlier today =(
Just a word of advice and I know everyone is different but I always wait until my devices are out of warranty before I do any modding. That's just me because I don't have the time to deal with the stuff you're going through. Anyway this is the first devise that I’ve not wanted to start modding right after I got it. Yes, it’s that good IMO.
Good luck I hope you get it resolved without too much expense.

still refused to fix it, they refused to give me a credible answer just that because security was disabled from the device they couldn't do it.
I would say make sure you enable S-Off and are back to an offical Rom, that might improve your chances of getting it partially repaired.
I flat out told them, I didn't like their lack of transparency and would be putting the phone on craigslist and buying any other device that wasn't HTC.
a bit petty but made me feel better.
Just to chime in here and share my experience. My display became messed up either through being damaged internally, or having the data cable come loose, etc. No cracks or any visible external damage at all. Anyway, phone was unlocked, rooted, running a custom ROM, and S-Off. Since the phone was less than six months old I shipped it back to HTC for replacement under warranty. Before I shipped the original I returned it to stock via RUU and re-locked the bootloader, but left it S-Off. HTC has just shipped me back a replacement without any hassle at all. Total cost to me was $19 for expedited shipping. I should point out that other than the ugly display my phone was functional - touch screen and all. But it does seem from my experience that HTC will still honor the warranty on modified devices if the failure is clearly hardware related, as mine was. BTW, I unlocked through HTC, so they could have checked if they wanted to.
I might try resetting security and sending it back again. I did a rather half added job last time. I was worried about the replacement option because that might have generated a charge to my credit card. Did you have to put a credit card on hold?

So, I received my phone back yesterday, and couldn't help but notice a huge crack going from top to bottom of the phone. This crack wasn't there before , Originally the screen had been badly scratched. I tried to open a ticket again to replace, and they say that due to "negligent use" (Bootloader unlocked/Security OFF) my phone is now fully out of warranty. I told them this is ridiculous, I'm not asking for a new phone; I just want my screen repaired under HTC Advantage, and need this escalated. Hoping to get a call from a manager today. I'm very unhappy with HTC.
This seems like a magnuson moss act violation. Thoughts?

I did not have to put a credit card on hold because I shipped them my device first and have just done without for a week or so. I think you only have to make a credit card deposit if they ship you a device first.

Thoughts?

Of particular interest is Post #139, which says the HTC rep claims S-off prevents access to the video calibration tool (sounds kinda made-up to me). Then later in Post #146, HTC appears to backpedal a bit, and offer the free replacement if the customer agrees to take "full responsibility" if there are issues with the motherboard later.
Thought I was going to have to use HTC Advantage today when I dropped my phone on my hardwood floor. It landed perfect on the screen and made an awful smacking sound. I just sat there in disbelief scared to pick it up. When I did everything was A-OK.
Hope you get this straighten out. Good luck.
