took the words right out of my mouth lol.

I remember when I first bought this phone, being incredibly frustrated due to the fact I spend $$$ on it and it wouldn't/couldn't do all the things that other similar units could do. I found this site through Howard's Forums and I cannot say in words how much I appreciate what DCD/GC14/many others have done to make this phone into something that's just about a laptop replacement.
Please PLEASE let's not SCREW IT UP - these folks obviously spend a TON of time doing this with no rewards expected - the LEAST we can freakin do is to show them a little of respect and thanks for their hard work! Well said Kflip....

I seriously hope this is just poor timing in posting this and is not an attack on DCD or Skywing over the VZW PDE IP debacle.

Look - Most of you do not know who did what and when to get the info we needed to get aGPS functional on our devices. Some things were said that were in fact incorrect statements. The bottom line is, if there is a beef- KEEP IT PRIVATE, work it out or not, but do not air it publically........ That statement goes out to all parties.....

its not poor timing, its good and needed timing. and this is in no way "attacking" anybody. i could care less about specific issues, but everyone is gunna be pretty upset when they log on to XDA to ask a question and find that their go-to guy(s) have left because people care more about taking credit and arguing than getting their phones working.

Ah, whatever...... its dropped.

wow, amusing....out of shear boredom, i'll retort...

that is not obvious to me. no one or two people are greater then the collective. i have used(actually, currently using) dcd's ROMs before and appreciate his work but i am far from reliant on him or his ROMs. the only thing i have ever seen the other guy do in this forum is talk down to people. if thats your cup of tea, i charge $5 for swift kicks to the sack...pm me if you're interested.

LOL @ the newbie who wants to give credit to the entire site. (I'm the newbie, in case you missed it kflipproductions).

Not quite the way I would have said it, but I completely agree. Please seem to forget under the veil of the internet that their attacks and childishness is seen by all. I have tired of seeing endless attacks through forums. Take it or leave it....without leaving your ill opinions. I personally love DCDs and many other's work, but understand the feat of compiling roms and that this DO AND WILL go wrong...but honestly - I can't do it, so I would never complain! They gave me GPS before anyone I knew had it on their P4000s and for the bragging rights instilled - I owe DCD and noChem nothing but gratitude.
Thanks for making a great point!

maybe its because of ppl like you they are holding out. do you think yuo asking in yet another thread if its been done its going to make a dev that might be holding out so oh ya, here you go, now i will give it to you?
as stated a zillion times, they will release it when they release it. they enjoy doing this stuff and love to show their work off, so when its done, it will be posted and as stated above, be first post in forum as everyone will be hitting it up
lol kevlar very well said. im sure there are tons of ppl waiting and to post numerous threads asking isnt going to make it available any faster..it will be done when its done. glad i waited for root and didnt jump the gun on leak
Its funny if you think about it. They couldn't wait for root and used the leak, now they are being impatient about root on the leak. How can anybody win with these people?
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
Well, not everyone who upgraded realized it was a leak and not root, thus, being very interested in finding an exploit. When a popular site that is all about unlocking phones has a tutorial that has you install the leak first then you become SOL. That being said, there are already threads just like this on the next page making this quite redundant.

To quash some of the preconcived notions that the Devs screwed you all into putting Leak on and waiting it out..There are at least 4 I know of and I was a tester for one of them and we all have leak. I went another route and you all had the same opportunity to do the same so winning and moaning about the leak root won't Make it happen faster.
JCase, Jamezelle, Framework(I think), Me, Captainkirk TheFuzz we all had leak v1 on our phones first to test if it was ok. Mistakes are made and that is how you find out how it works.
Some one close this thread. It is poison to the Forum.
....but you went there anyhow?
Self loathing ftw?
The devs aren't withholding anything. You are free to come to the irc in channel #root to see what is being worked on.
The reason you don't see a whole lot posted on the forums about it is because the methods we are working with are not simple and there isn't much to say about it. Us posting things will just get more and more people asking about it, which detracts from the actual dev's time that are working on it.
In other words, when root is found, you'll know. PERIOD.
You messed up by installing leak, suck it up and fork out the $90 for a replacement. Not a big deal and you end up looking like an butthead (like me) by asking over and over if its rooted yet. Don't you think the forum would be flipping it's poop if leakers got root? There would be 30 threads about it and they would all probably be on the home page. Keep your pants on and your mouth closed or buy a new phone.

At first I read this and agreed 100%. Then as I gave it more thought I realized that would be like a teacher thanking their student for doing their homework or you thanking your mechanic for fixing your car...that's what they are supposed to do...legally required to do (lets not start that whole 'GPL wiggle room' meme again)...and they did it late.
I'm glad they did, I'm not sure if the facebook assault had anything to do with it, but I'm not sure they deserve a thank you for doing what they are required to do.

Apparently you don't know what 'Source' is...
This doesn't mean they have an update for you to download, it means that they released a copy of their kernel.
They only release the source because they are required too not because we asked them. If that was the case well you know the story.

Lol! I totally thank my mechanic when he fixes my car. You thank people when they do things that you appreciate regardless of whether or not its something you're paying them to do. Its Just plain good taste. But yeah, I agree with the OP. Whenever anyone opens their source its a good tying. It allows endeavors like the XDA community to keep on deving.

The simple fact is, they didn't have to do anything. Do you honestly believe we have rights as consumers? I mean really? Do I feel I owed them a thank you?, no. Is it a decent thing to do after the fact?,yes. They gave it to us sooner rather then later, or even at all for that matter. Human decentcy is a funny thing lately in this country, but whatever.

Back down there sparky...I believe I phrased my reply to indicate that I was indeed on the fence with the idea. I'm not laboring over my decision but I want to give it thought. The kernel source is subject to the rules of the GPL. They paid nothing for it and only have to abide by the rules of the license. One of those rules is that the source code must be made available (within a certain amount of time? I keep hearing 30 days but I'm not so sure).
I guess I just used poor analogies. You don't thank someone for not robbing your house...do you?
That said, in the name of fairness (and human decency...towards a corporation that has already demonstrated a desire to screw us as much as we will allow?) I'm still considering my stance.

I appreciate all the work that is done here, and I'm sorry that I cant contribute to that work. I wasn't calling out everybody here, most people didnt hit their page, but those of us that did, I felt a simple thanks would be good in the long term future. You know, maybe the evo3, instead of them being like **** those guys that spammed us last year and never came back, they may be like, hey lets get them the goods again, all the thanks looked good on our fb page. Social networking has given us power, much more than the old 800 number, simply because all complaints and gratitudes are in the public view of the world. Plus as a species thats struggling, again, simple decentcy is refreshing, and whats wrong with that?

When I first read the post I didn't read all the words like I said. I missed the part about the source code.
People just aren't as appreciative as they used to be. Thats what I think mostly America has become. I do get enough thanks for what I do and thats why I keep doing it. I know people like it even though they don't always show it.
I actually talked to HTC this morning and the first words out of my mouth were that I love their phones and what they do.

That's pretty compelling...in the short run. In the long run I would hope that you are proven correct and it's certainly worth a shot. If they don't learn from this, well, we can always attack them again.
I think I just might give them a thanks. All of that positive PR would surely help convince them to do the same in the future.
Well I stopped by their Facebook to say thanks as soon as they posted it. I hit them up in a polite way every day asking for it, so I felt that I wanted to thank them for doing it in a timely matter. Other companies and phones take much longer. Now, if I still had my OG EVO, I would not have thanked them for releasing today. I mean when did the GB update for the OG EVO come out? And they are just releasing it today? This is my opinion, not that anyone asked for it.

time for some change here on XDA

Let's clean this up a bit, shall we?
I get the impression sometimes that we (speaking about everybody here in the 3D forums recently) make this place sort of "unfriendly" with sarcasm and troll posts, rudeness when people post in the wrong section, create duplicate threads, so on and so forth...
First of all, I will say that I am fully aware of my own contribution to this, lol. BUT... i was thinking earlier about when I started out over on SDX and how friendly and eager people were to help me when I was new to the android/Linux scene (although I still had somewhat of a basic understanding of it because of my knowledge of windows, Linux and especially android was a new world to me and much of the knowledge I have picked up since then was simply because people were so willing to offer help and their own knowledge - regardless of "noob" questions (when I simply could have used a search button).
Yeah, for whatever reason you just want to punch people through the computer sometimes when they post in the wrong section or make "hAlp my phonez is teh broken" threads that can easily be fixed with some searching around. But I think we should try to be a little bit more of a friendly and tolerant (and therefore tolerable... ironically) of the things that go on around here.
Anyways, just some dumb ass rant post. But I thought I would share this thought because I feel the action of it could be a positive thing around here.
oouuut.
So, I will be nicer to people. Let's all try this, shall we?

You hit the nail right ok the head. I joined

If I've helped you in any way... hit the "Thanks" button.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that since there's been a flood of Android phones hitting the market over the last year and a half or so, there's also a flood of people who come with it. They buy a new Android device, hear about 'rooting' and jump on here. Not everyone knows the meaning of respect, and they expect things to just be handed to them. There's definitely more idiots on here than before, but also just more people overall. No matter where you go, the more people around, the more idiots there will be. It's unfortunate indeed.
I try to be helpful, but it's definitely aggravating when someone just flat out doesn't read a damn thing, and asks a question that's clearly typed in the OP. When I joined, I didn't know ANYTHING about rooting, ROMs, etc. but I read a few things and learned.
There are a few forums that I use that have a n00b section with zero intolerance for the replies to questions in said sub-forum, maybe that would be nice, then we can segregate the n00bs and flame more well-known users for asking stupid things. Lol

I used to get on here several times a day, reading these forums, but it took me a long time to actually register because the few immature people that start a fight in the thread made it look irritating. Like whoever posted in the recent ICS thread about how the OP was information from another thread, even though the OP was several pages long.
Who cares? It's something else to read. That's why most of us are here, for some form of entertainment.
n00bs != newbies
Newbies don't know things and after TRYING to figure it out themselves, they have ended up, seeking answers for uncommon situations. This is OK.
n00bs, on the other hand, don't know ****, they don't give a crap about learning and expecting from others to give all the answers on a gold plate without moving a finger on their foot. This is not OK.
The sooner pseudomoralistic idiots realize this, the sooner will be this place be as it used to be before. If not, I'll continue to troll n00bs for my own amusement and you can kiss my shiny ass.

Yes, the "an answer is easily found by a very fast google search but I'm too lazy to do it or just expect you tell me" crowd is the problem I agree. Even if they are not the majority, when I see a new thread or question that seems like an easy find, I get really mad because I had to take the time to learn and search on my own. I've been on here since 2006 and I guess because of all the new androids out there you get people who are not technologically inclined trying to do technicological things.

However, I agree it has gotten out of control, and the mods are unwilling or unable to do anything about the newbs or the a%*holes that are attacking devs when they know nothing about any of this development stuff.

first off you wouldnt believe the amount of buttholes and douchebags mods put up with on a daily basis. most often we only get called in when there is a problem, so everyone wants to talk about how things have changed and how it sucks putting up with the idiots. put on mod glasses, i would 75% of the people on here, instead of just reporting a troll or a n00b posting in the wrong spot or a spammer, they in turn flame, troll, spam the person that just needs reporting. so that means, we then have to clean everything back up, figure out who to get rid of and sort the whole situation. its not fun. if you want to see things change, be the change. report posts, dont flame the idiots, dont feed the trolls, just move on with your day. we arent afraid to boot people, we arent about "registration numbers", we are about supporting developers. but we cant be in every thread at once or all the time. if you see something out of place, report it, everyone has that ability. but most of us just return the favor of flaming people.
i became a mod, because i believed that a difference could be made. i reported posts, before i was a mod, i was helpful to people, i tried to teach n00bs the correct way of doing things instead of treating them like trash. yes there is an over abundance of users now due to the influx of android devices, most of the new users dont know anything, and they wont ever learn anything if we all are douchebags to them.
if XDA is becoming something that it wasnt in the past, its because we as a user base are allowing it to be so. be a respectful user, help people out, if someone is doing something they arent supposed to report them. serisously, how are we supposed to know whats going on if we arent notified?
/steps off soap box
I think a large problem too is it really does feel like the mods play favorites. I don't want to bring up the whole Chad.Goodman thing, and how he was reported and pulled in a matter of hours, yet, when he reported other non-GPL complying dev's nothing was done to them. Or my own situation, having important threads detailing hostile actions from one particular user being deleted without any reply or communication from a mod as to why. That user having no repercussion for his actions.. It's really feels that it's not an equal ground forum a lot of the time.

i agree that it may feel like that sometimes, and sometimes mods need to do a better job in communicating. users will not however see everything that goes on behind the scenes. if we infract someone we dont broadcast it, its really no one else's business if i infract you, thats why other users cant see other peoples infractions. if you dont like the way a mod handled something, ask him (or her) how/why they did what they did. dont be hostile about it, just pose a question. i know we are more than willing to talk to users about their issues, and come to the best possible resolve.

Vote up/ Vote down button

anyone else notice on some threads you have the option to vote down or vote up a post? i havent seen it in every thread but just wanted to ask if anyone else noticed?

Vote up means the post goes to the start of the thread and vote down makes it go towards the end of the thread?

No I dont like it. If people downvote a post enough it will kick it out of the system and they cant see it.
While this may be nice for noob posts or a crappy post, it takes awhile for people to downgrade it enough to make it disappear as opposed to just having one of us delete it. Also, if people want to be dicks to a particular person or dev and make their OP disappear... it can be easily abused.

yea i didnt like it when it started in another forum i was in. i know the thank button here means a lot but could we change it to thumbs up and change the thank meter to a thumbs up meter? a lot of times i see a good post, but it doesnt make sense to hit the thank button because i just want to give it props.
+1 and thanks are different meaning.

If this is the intended usage, I am extremely concerned.
I would like it as a quick guide for how useful a post is; lets say someone says to do an adb command that will hardbrick your phone, but there's 100:1 downvote:upvote ratio, no one is going to use the command. Conversely, it could get rid of a lot of junk posts such as "yea do what that guy said". This would be very beneficial to the community (I imagine).
However if it was used for censorship reasons, people would not only abuse it, but the flow and integrity of a thread would be at jeopardy. Until clever bot reaches 100% of human intelligence, and XDA is ran by cleverbot, no algorithm should be used to determine the worth of a post. Moderators do that. Computers don't. </rant>

To accomplish the same idea of ranking posts, could there be an option added to switch between chronologically sorting posts and having ones with a lot of thanks showing up first so that the useful posts can be quickly accessed instead having to go through hundreds of pages of useless posts. That way it would still be up to the mods to remove bad posts, but would potentially cut down on time spent seeing if someone else has had the issue you are experiencing and cut right to the answers so maybe useless posts will decrease, or at the very least you can jump to posts marked useful by the other members.
Just an idea, not sure if it could even be implemented. Just something that I have been thinking about for a while.

A self regulated system like reddit uses works WAY better then the ridiculously over the top, heavy handed, (I haven't closed a thread in 20 minutes!) moderated forum like this one.

Bravo, Red. It never ceases to amaze me how people can so vociferously complain about something they get for free that gives them so much in return.

Who pissed off Mike d?

Who is the culprit here? Someone must have said something. Man up and apologize to him immediately. He's one of the best themers/ modders on this site and it will be so sad without him. Please everyone, show your support for this great guy who has been making mods for us since day one. Show some damn appreciation and thank him. Send a donation if you can.

im not sure what his deal is? i haven't seen anybody post anything but thanks to him for his work. the last thing this community needs is to loose talented devs. maybe this has something to do with lack of donations perhaps?

Only one of the best modders this site had. Aside from good ole andybones too of course. It's a sad shame that Mike won't be modding for us. A damn shame

my theory is that it's not an individual or a few but the community. everyone was ranting and raving and showing impatience for his upcoming themes. when the time came to release he was underwhelmed from the thanks/donations afterwards. I could be wrong but that's my guess

I agree but it must have been the end results. just hope it's not about appreciation. he already started to purge files and links. that's a possible bad sign to encourage others to look elsewhere. sure hope not because the rez is a great device

as ive said we didn't need to loose any devs. xda is still pretty busy for the rezound. look at rootzwiki, no one posts there.
Well that sucks.

I think he specifically said in his mods thread that it had nothing to do with lack of thanks/appreciation.
Mike D's themes were legit. Seeing what he was able to do has pushed me into learning how to theme roms
IM sure he will be back one day...
He is just working more hours... If he got more donations for his work I am sure he could cut back on his hours.
But no one ever donates to the guy!

Well donations are optional plus times are tough. I know ive thanked the guy plenty. Hope he comes back one day.
perhaps I'll start doing small things in his place. I'm not good enough to do total themes but I can certainly decompile/recompile,edit png colors and switch font color hex codes in the xmls

Sure, they are optional, but people start getting demanding and the money helps put up with the idiots. I think the enjoyment starts to go away.
I always donate to those whose work I consistently use. But then I also buy apps.
There's a reason why devs want to dev for iphone even though there are more android phones out there. Android users tend to be cheapskates who would rather steal an app than pay for it.
cant blame the community . this one is the same as others. i know someone who was working on bamf rezound in the beginning said hed stop cause of the "community" and he did . we're not THAT bad, but quitting cause of that is kinda lame- though i do understand in away .

Yes you do, thank you!
And yes the second part of that statement tends to be true. Users forget that Dev's are people with real lives and real responsibilities and that Android Dev'ing, for the most, of us is just a hobby like collecting Stamps or baseball cards. They seem to think that because we make cool things we are some giant company with the resources of many when in fact we are only one person trying to bring some fun to your device. But anyways.. You know that already and I am grateful for your support!
I don't know about the iPhone thing though. I couldn't deal with it if I had to. I love Android. Never really liked Apple. Hahaha

honestly, I would still be on wp7 if verizon had one with lte and a bigger screen. Really enjoyed my hd7. Spent more time using my phone. Tinkering with it is fun, but didn't miss it jumping from winmo to wp7. Used to build my own roms back then, but haven't had the time to really dive into what makes android tick.
Ok I'll fess up. It was silverxbv2 who did it.
Hahaha
