What the heck!!!!! - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

So there are posts about the Verizon update. Install or don't?
There are posts about AGPS - Why is this important? I thought phones with true GPS didn't need aGPS?
There are posts about PRI's - I have no clue what that is even about!
And another post telling people to shut up..
I am so confused right now I have no clue what to do any more! LOL
Update to VZ's MR1? Or am I holding on for something better?
Do I use GPS? Ehh.. Id'e like to use GPSTracker, so far it's not working very well with out GPSGate installed. And I like to have Tomtom installed as a backup. It works OK.. Very slow to lock on though.
However, with my desire to keep GPS intact, my S2U2 has stopped working, so I uninstalled it. ThrottleLauncher started breaking (even though nothing changed) so that's gone. My phone feels icky right now... I thought maybe the Verizon update would help clean it up!
I am all ears

I would not suggest using the VZW update. Go with DCD ROM 3.2.6.

It is important so you'll have a GPS lock within seconds instead of minutes.

The VZW update installs a new PRI that seems to help lock down GPS so other 3rd party programs do not work unless you pay the $10/mo VZNav access.

Just ignore the hostile posts. They are counter productive.

What are you currently running? I suggest looking into DCD 3.2.6 or investigating what you might have installed causing the problem. Sometimes starting from scratch by doing a hard reset is just easier to clear out any changes one might have made.

Running DCD 3.2.5 right now. Is there a problem with .5?
So say I move to .6
Would it benefit me to use the newer Radio VZ has provided us?
Then work on getting aGPS working
Then move along from there?
I am not good with getting the roms installed via flash card, so I am stuck using USB, if that option exists.. Will going from .5 to .6 erase everything? Do I need to use the spl program first when ever I do an update like this?
I think those questions will help, the other answers already help as I now have no intention of using the verizon update

You can stick with 3.2.5 if it works for you. When DCD releases a new ROM I usually wait 1-2 days to see if there are any reported issues and then I upgrade to his latest. Upgrading the ROM does erase all the data from your phone. i.e. saved txt messages, call history, contacts, etc. So, you'll want to back that info up. I personally use a utility called "PPC Backup Contacts" to backup my contacts and I don't care about the rest. Verizon's radio rom isn't the latest version as far as version numbers go. I haven't had any issues with the latest radio, so, I'd suggest you you just use it. For SPL, once you have it on there you don't need to mess with it unless a new version comes along.
Flashing... I've never been successful flashing the radio rom via USB unless it was built into an official package like VZW or Sprints office rom. I've flashed most of my radios via the minisd method. I kind of cheat by using my phone as the minisd reader. I hook my phone up to my computer and let activesync go. From there, my phone shows up inside Windows Explorer and I just copy the new ROM to the minisd. For flashing the actual rom, I've always stuck with DCD's precooked rom that has the installer built in and works over USB.

DCD 2.1: missing sms messages?

Unlocked, flashed radio, DCD 2.1 (WM 6.1).
I've had complaints from people who said they sent me texts which I never received. Happening from Sprint users and other networks too. Estimating approx 40-50% loss. Could this be ROM related?
Also noticing the lack of voicemail notification when messages are left.
Any ideas? Did I miss something?
Derp....missed the release of 2.2.3.
Will try that now.
Ok, tried 2.2.4 and still verified lost messages.
ROM or Sprint? Any way to tell?

Probably not. Best you can do is flash it back to a stock Sprint rom/radio, and see if the problem persists. And even then you can't be sure what it is. But it might give you an idea.
Got the stock rom now, but its not flashing. Says check your updater.
I'm guessing I have to downgrade the radio or something. Is there a howto on reverting?

It's been discussed before, but I don't know if you can easily find a how-to. I'm sure someone here knows better, since I've never actually done it myself. You'll need to downgrade both the ROM and the Radio for sure. You'll probably have to downgrade the bootloader as well, and might even need to re-lock it. Hopefully somebody with experience will chime in and set us straight.

Did that fix it, or did you have to downgrade the radio too?
Tried 1.6.10, but it locks up on the boot screen. I got into the bootloader and am trying 2.2.3 now.
Running 2.2.3 now. Did a hard reset (##RTN#) and after re-provisioning, it seems to be better. All test messages have come through.
Just FYI.

Since I blame the radio, I downgraded. I miss the threaded SMS but knowing I get all messages is more important to me.

GPS rom (vz) problems

I installed the dcd 2.1.0 verizon rom with the v3.27.0 radio (following these instructions:
http://www.phonenews.com/how-to-add-gps-to-htc-mogul-xv6800-p4000-titan-2663/)
and everything went fine but now my device is freezing up and generally not acting healthy. Can anyone vouch for this set up and/or recommend the best current rom for verizon? Im not too concerned with having GPS available (but would be nice), I would really like to have a nice no junk rom above all else. Thanks for any advice.
I haven't had good luck with any of the gps/reva roms on verizon... Seems every rom combination has it's share of quirks/bugs it's just a matter of finding the one that has some u can live with
I'm yet to find one that is FLAWLESS... if you find one let me know!
I have flashed several VZW xv6800s. If you have the 3.35 radio just flash DCDs latest (3.0.4). It runs very smooth. I have no issues except sometimes the GPS fix takes longer. It does everything else. Make sure you Hard reset after flashing.
Edit: sorry guys, was not thinking as i typed. I meant 3.35 radio (the one from the sprint update). Flash the 3.35 or 3.37 radio!
I would suggest using the latest ROM as well. Seems to have made a difference with battery life to me.

interesting how u guys on vzq have no problems with the reva radios... I was running 3.0.4 for quite a while until I finally canned it because I couldn't deal with apps crashing when switch to other procs... I went back to 1.7 to see if there was a problem there too but everything runs good it seems... am having bluetooth problems locking up device sometimes though so now I'm back to vzw stock radio to see if that fixes things? Actually I have no idea if bluetooth would be affected by radio or not but I'm desperately trying to find a stable setup.

This is VERY bad advice and will only screw your phone up even more. It says in numerous places on these boards that 3.27 radio is NOT compatible with 3.x.x roms. The only roms that will work with the 3.27 radio are the 2.x.x roms.
My question to you though is why on god's green earth are you still wanting to run a 2.x.x rom with the old crappy buggy beta radio 3.27? Just update with the alltel updater to get radio 3.37.20, don't let customizations run, then flash dcd 3.0.4...much much better and will probably fix your gps problems.

Danger!
radio 3.27 is NOT compatible with dcd 3.0.4 rom!!!
1) radio 1.30 or radio 1.40 = use dcd 1.7 (non gps rom)
2) radio 3.27 radio = use ONLY dcd 2.x.x series roms (with gps , revA - experimental)
3) radio 3.37 radio = use dcd 3.0.1 or 3.0.4. (gps and revA official)
my recommendation would be option 1 or 3. Depending on whether you want gps or not.

Zen,
I think you might be the victim of a dodgy titan. I was, like you, using 1.7 for the longest time because I couldnt put up with the buggy 3.27 radio. So i just stayed non gps until the new radion 3.35 came out and dcd released 3.x.x series of roms. Since then I bit the bullet and went back to gps rom. I didn't look back. So far dcd rom 3.0.4 + radio 3.37 (alltel) has been the best (i.e reliable) rom setup I have experienced since I was on dcd 1.7.0. I think they are both equal now, except that I have gps enabled now and I dont need to carry my gps with me all the time.
The internal gps does SUCK the battery down kinda fast, but it is reliable. No bluetooth issues that I can see except that call quality is still sub-par but at least it connects without any trouble. If I am using the gps function in the car i use my BT gps because the BT radio uses a lot less juice than the internal gps receiver.
I have VZW just like you and gc, az clown etc and we all have similar good experience with the new setup. So the only other thing I could say about your titan problems is that it must be hardware. Try stock again and see if it clears up the problems then I would say that my reading of your situation is wrong. But from what you have said it seems right.

Well, that's the thing.. when I go to stock everything I have no problems but am stuck with crappy wm6.0... I don't mind not having the gps so much but it def would be nice... However, I do hate having to run an older rom that isn't community-supported any longer due to newer releases...
I think my problem with 3.0.4 might have been the way I flashed the radio.. I was one of the original ones to actually get the dcd released radio installation to work and hadn't really looked back.... im wondering if maybe that was the problem... I might consider trying the sprint rom method to get the radio and then trying 3.0.4 again...
Other than that, I don't see any way to get a warranty replacement on the device if all the stock vzw stuff works without a problem.. only support I ever have logged with vzw for this device is the many many many times I've had hung data connections from switching back and forth to reva/non reva radios so much.... I long for a stable setup so I don't have to deal with this anymore

Also, i have had 2 replacement xv6800s. One was for white spot in the bottom left part of the screen. I had to call VZW and tell them they were out of replacements at the store. The other was replaced a week later for data not working.

Zen,
go the 'official' route from stock. olipro 2.40. sprint 3.35 official (without allowing customizations) then flash dcd 3.0.4. If you still then have problems then we can isolate your flash before as a potential problem.
if you still have all the same issues then i really think its time for a new titan. If all is well then you can finally relax and enjoy the device.
Good luck

Ya, I actually did the Sprint Flash this time around and things seem to be working better, to my surprise... Things seem to be running a lot better now compared to the radio hack I was using before... I imagine that's the reason dcd killed that link off the forums... although it didn't brick my phone, it obviously was crippling my device quite a bit.
Only thing that worries me (somewhat) about the sprint rom was that it changed the bootup screen (pre os load).. it's now black screen with red lettering showing versions... I have NO idea how that can be reverted back if I ever need to have this thing serviced. That sprint rom appears to totally changed the device.

Flashing of the pre-windows boot screens (i.e. the ones that show up around the time that the red lettered rom versions appear) are not part of the rom. You can't modify them with dcd's kitchen.
There are three options that you have.
1. You can create a mini rom with the splash screens in it that you can flash to the device. I dont know how to do it and dont really care to find out, but gcincotta knows how to do it and posted instructions a few days ago in another post. He can tell you how to do it.
2. You can use the ppcgeeks kitchen to create boot screens and then flash your dcd rom over the top.
3. Flashing a stock verizon, sprint, alltel etc rom will contain the splash screens and put them back on along with the correct (stock) radio and roms. Then you can take your very clean 'stock' titan back to the store for repairs or replacement without fear.

gc, this is so true. The 'techs' at the verizon stores (bless their hearts) know nothing at all about the titan. you could go in there with a fully "sprintized' titan and seriously they wouldn't notice.
I found this out the first time I tried to flash. I thought I had bricked the device and took it to the "service center" verizon store near my location to get the data back working (yeah that's all the problem was, but I was a noob and didnt know better). They didnt have the slightest idea what to do to solve the problem. They screwed around with it for a while and gave it back, basically the same. they offered to switch it out for me, but I said i will try just a bit longer (and it had a customized 'colonel - ppcgeeks' rom on it - if you have ever seen one it is completely unmistakable - looks nothing like a verizon rom).
I went outside, called *8899 and got a service support tech to fix the phone over the air. The problem had just been the data account needed to be reset at their end. Not only did the guys in the store have no idea how to fix it, they didnt even notice that my device was clearly not stock.

Yeah, if you do the flashes separately the boot screen never change. I still had the original verizon boot screens until just recently when I did the upgrade to dcd 3.0.4. Its the running of the sprint installer that overwrites your verizon splash, not the rom or the radio themselves.
Anyway, i used the dcd kitchen to create my 3.0.4 rom and selected HTC animation. That creates a HTC splash to overwrite the sprint stuff, and then I did this and this and my machine looks sweet when it boots.
The instructions of how to load them is explained in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379822
Enjoy. (I cant post pics of the screens because the xda database is busted at the moment)

Ok so anything I need to know? Besides backing up contacts/calendar, do I have to call Verizon or was this only for custom roms? Anything else before I go it would be helpful. Any mistakes or tricks you found out while updating too. Thanks. I am really scared (even with this offical rom).
edit: I MIGHT update. Still having doubts.

2) Dial *228 select option 2
That was it. Just finished restoring my backup and installing my favorite apps seems to work just fine

I don't use GPS, I prefer other devices, and I don't use it for data, the only things I care about are if it makes calls and if the WiFi and bluetooth work correctly. Not everyone has the same priority for a phone.

What are you talking about? RevA was working perfectly for me with the MR1 update - I was getting speeds right where I should have been getting them.
And like the person above stated, not everyone's priority is on gps
I cannot do a full back up with Active Sync anymore? I guess the older versions allow me to do it.
I am just picking the official rom since there is less steps and less margin of error. But really I haven't decided on what to do just yet. I do have my own seperate Garmin nuvi I use.
Can you see what speeds your getting with Rev. A? Also why didn't you have to call Verizon. Is it not a complete wipeout like a hard reset? Thanks in advance!

When I upgraded from stock rom to the mr1 update, it did not wipe out the a-key or dmu settings, nor should it.
As for RevA speeds - I was consistently getting between 600-800kbps

I updated and I don't regret it one bit...I actually like the VZnavigator, I had it on my LGvx9800 "the V" and it saved me from being lost so many times that when I bought my 700w I missed it so bad I almost went back to the V...
I got google maps on the Treo but I had no GPS at the time, then I got my 6800 and flashed to DCD's latest and greatest and I loved it except it sometimes took 5 to 10 mins for Live search or Google maps to locate me and neither of them had turn by turn voice prompts...and by the time they located me I was so lost i had to get directions from some nearby address to where I was going without GPS....VZ Navigator connects in less then 10 seconds at my house and even at the Airport where I work...!!! I don't mind paying for things that I like...
I guess I am happy with my Rev-0 speeds.
Just tested it I got 1.17 Mbps (1198.4 kbps). Since I do not use my phone with a laptop I guess Rev-A wouldn't be needed as much.
I appreciate everyone for posting here. Thanks! Still its good to know I don't have to call Verizon like whne I had to do a hardrest. I will still wait on upgrading. Reading more experiences from people. But the need to upgrade is definetly diminishing somewhat with time. lol

US Cellular: Touch Pro Roms, Radios, Carriers??

Just upgraded my Titan to the Touch Pro. I see the roms have carriers built-in. Any US Cellular Carrier support working yet? Can a bare rom be made to work on any carrier? Radios? My radio sucks. 1 to 2 bars less than my Titan at home. I read that battery tweaks are mandatory to have a life. Finding it hard to determine which files are best for the model I have with so many models out there, and USCC being so new...
I also just upgraded to the TP from the Titan ... and was also wondering about cooking a rom with USCC support... is this possible yet?
Well, 24 hrs later, and I have some wishes..
the radio on this sucks.. 1.06.07... less bars, bluetooth sucks for speed on redfly.. gps seems ok though.
Battery sucks.
Otherwise, this phone rocks.. love the vga, love the feel of the hardware, love the ram..
still wondering about carriers.. don't want to break the data connection with the wrong rom/carrier... but I am ready to format this sucka.. I know the hardware is good, just in search of the right combo of software to run it right!
I've found that setting no carrier name or setting Alltel seems to work for USCC. I don't post much over here but I post over at the USCC forum on Howardforums a lot.

You mean in the kitchen for ROM cooking?
Who wants to be first to try?
Yep in the Kitchen, if you use a kitchen. If you don't, you can just install the firmware as is and usually you can just set your settings. USCC doesn't use an AKEY or anything like that.
Just make sure, no matter what rom you burn, that you should use the Clear Storage feature after installing the ROM (including the Format NAND Flash) Switch, to make sure that you have a clean workspace.
At the moment I'm using Juicy 7 no problem on my USCC TP.
EDIT: There's nothing really to try, I've already done this several times over, as has several others. Worst case there's a shipped firmware EXE and you can revert back to factory using that and the relocker. You should use 0.37 of SPL and keep your radio factory.
Where can we find the stock rom for uscc?

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question!!! When you say use the CLEAR STORAGE feature.. you're talking about the one in the settings/control panel options of the OS/WM?

Yep. That'd be the one.

Alltel Touch Pro 2.01.671.1 ROM update

It's on HTC's website, dated July 7th. I haven't seen any other threads on it, and I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. I've updated to it myself, and it seems to be an overall improvement over the version I had. There's really nothing much in the notes, though it seems they tweaked quite a bit. Most notably, it's done wonders for my battery life. I used to always come home with a phone that was nearly dead. Now I get home with 60-70% still left on the battery. It could be my imagination, but the phone seems a bit more responsive now as well. If the battery life is anything to go by, it could just be from general optimization of the ROM. Other points of interest... the activesync app is no longer self-launching, and Opera Mobile appears to have had an update as well.

im in the process of doing it know, ill let ya know what i think in a bit
I tried it when it 1st came out, its definitely better than the shipped rom, but its still got all of the bloatware and other b.s. that interferes with performance. IMO, you're still better off with a cooked rom.
ya i honestly cant tell a different between stock rom and this update
Oh yeah, I'm sure a cooked rom is faster. Just thought I'd put the PSA out there. It does seem to address a few issues for my launch version of the ROM.
one of these day ill get around to putting a custom rom on my phone.
thiers just to many and i cant figure out which one i want
stock
if i have already unlocked my phone and running a custom rom and want to flash to this stock rom do i need to do anything different?
No, just flash as you normally do. Every couple of flashes I go back to the stock rom anyway. Probably just the "placebo" effect, but I've convinced myself it helps.
Do it for the Radio

Notation to everyone here this ROM includes an updated radio. 1.12.20F. So that it's self should be worth it. I run NFS rom but I am going to update to this so I can grab the updated radio. I will then jump to his. My radio is currently 1.03.16F. It also has the later PRL and PRI.
I see the in the Radio Thread in this forum that they have the alltel readio without the whole ROM. So if you want go that route. I have just found that doing a stock flash every once in awhile keeps my custom flashing less problematic.
im still having problems as far as radio signal.........and the only reason i don't just upgraded the radio is their is no alltel dump yet
I also get great battery life after the update.

Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531134
and look on the first post. In it it says how to check my signal. That will show you what you need. Lower is better for all 3 numbers it shows in the post to look at.

typing this didn't do anything...all i got was call cant be completed as dialed
One very nice discovery I made today (because of how little I actually talk on my TP) is that they've changed the call answer screen a bit. Seems they took a page from Apple's book and changed the answer and ignore buttons into a slider. You slide it all the way left to answer, and right to ignore. Should fix the accidental answer problem I know a lot of people (including myself) have had.
Will this work on Verizon TP? I know i will have to apply keyboard patch but would it work?
Radio should work no problem, especially since alltel and verizon are 1 now.
I dispise Verizon ROM. No YouTube, No Internet Sharing etc... Got it as a insurance replacement when my Alltel TP broke. They said they don't have Alltel TPs anymore.
Please give me the good news... PLEEEAAASE
PS: I already have GPS unlocked using MR1 release from Verizon.

I wouldn't attempt it if I were you. Have you considered trying a custom rom? If you've never done it I could help you through the process. Stock roms SUCK!
Can i ask you if it works in a touch pro un-locked of the vodafone Italy company?
I have an alltel touch pro but my area switched to verizon now, im assuming this won't be a problem because i didn't need to do any update when they switched so im guessing the radio won't be an issue? Really want to do this if it increases battery.
Also will this remove any settings or themes that kind of stuff?
edit nevermind i see it removes everything.
if i take my memory card out before i update can will all the programs that are one it reinstall? and when i put all my backed up data back on the device do the programs reinstall or do i have to do something to reinstall them?
