will this work? - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

i try, realy i do. have done all with no help (not that i haven't asked) but i can only get so far. really kills me to read signatures of others bragging how they have their titan going with gps, mms, net (everything including kitchen sink) on cricket. yet i get nowhere, even when 3 ask. i know that ppcgeeks is almost a mirror of this site, and i don't mean to ruffle feathers, but ppc only seems to be a good place to SEARCH, i'm having no luck with forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48

The difficultly with Cricket is there is no "stock" Rom for this phone. I had the same problem with a Palm Treo, it worked great until I ported my home phone number to the phone and I lost internet. I could only find the same instructions that I have and must have punched it in a thousand times, called Cricket a couple to have my data package removed and added and nothing. When I swapped out for a Cricket Motorola K1m KRZR everything worked just fine. So something happened to the phone and I wasn't going to fix it as there was no stock rom to go to. You might try buying a cheap real Cricket phone off ebay, changing to that phone and then change back to the Titan and see if that changes something. $15 per swap though, maybe find a friend that can do it for free. Hope this helps.

I have other phones, even an other titan, same rom and everything. It has been my test phone for flashing. I didn't want to boar group with story. I ordered one from fundevices and after 6 weeks of waiting and calling, I ordered on off evilbay and it showed in two days. Ran it for a bit the way it came with 6.0 and would send pic but not recieve. Fathers day wife, kids and I went camping and my phone got soaked with soda (floated in it for while on car charger before I found it). Sunday we got home and I took phone apart and cleaned screen side best I could, but mother board and key board got most damage. It would come on, then off, and on, and off........
anyway I washed the mother board in hot water and dish soap in big bowl for about 15 minutes. Put all back together making sure everything was 100% dry. Turned it on, nothing. But it would charge battery. Monday the first one oredered (after 10 weeks) was at my door after work. I didn't activate it knowing I was going to change the rom, and just used wifi for about 5 days. Still using damaged one as a charger and backup battery. I sent both phones to to0 (mike cooper) and had him flash the to0v3 rom on one, but he couldn't get wet phone to come on. When I got phones back, it still had 1.20 bootloader and his rom. No gps, and it took me a week to get the net to work and mms never worked. Sent it to him under the impression that his rom posted on ppc, hofo and cricket phone talk saying everything worked, was what I was getting him to do. When I got it back, activated it, and made a call, no mic. It's not broken. Missing driver, missing patch? Don't know, I know it works. Make a call (not activated) and blow in mic. Get static. Do a video, and it records and plays back sound, but to do a voice command, or record a voice memo nothing. After a few days the battery was low, but not dead. I took backup off damaged phone and put in low battery and turned on (constant on and off would kill it for sure) and it came on. I mean it is the phone I use everyday, flashing, no luck, this post. Been going for about 6 weeks. Still untouched, 2.09 sprint rom with 1.32.00 radio, and it had a dcd hack since windows media player said dcd rom in back ground. How it came working on cricket. While flashing phone with no mic, I hooked up good phone and did unlocker on it without really knowing what I was doing. Of course it stuck in bootloader and I had no clue what to do. By now I have flashed, and flashed, and flashed. Even ripping apart roms posted to put together some things. E.G. dcd 1.6.0 to get stock 1.06 spl and putting it in 2.09 rom that was on phone ruu folder to get phone locked to do hard spl 2.40 Original rom had 1.20 and every time i relocker, it would get stuck in bootloader and then I would flash original rom, thus completing a circle.
How I got to where I'm at now. With 2.09 rom, use relocker, then rom I pieced up to get out of bootloader. Then run hard spl 2.40 since unlocker doesn't, and flashing 2.47 from card always gets me stuck in 2.07 bootloader. Once done hard spl, it's stuck in 1.20 bootloader, flash sprint 3.56, half way thru it stops and wants to recover (don't). remove battery and turn back on and force phone into bootloader and it is 2.40, flash vCBU and when done it gets stuck in boot screen and only thing in red letters is "no radio". Force in bootloader and flash 3.56 and not let customize. Then back to bootloader and flash over vCBU again. Then flash vboots. Then go thru and do reg hacks and fill in stuff for modem. And that is where I am. And yes, that is only way I could get everything flashed. 4 diff attempts on 2 phones, all left same path. Still have my nokia 6265 but wife uses for backup charger for her 6275 and some old dot matrix green screen cricket phones. I was hoping for an easier resilution. Since on phone was almost 4 bills, one was almost 3 bills, and sending to to0 to flashed was 70, pluse switching back and forth at cricket.

Was there a question in there?
How far did you get? where are you stuck? what part do you need help with?
Can you not flash 3.2.6 and run the cricket carrier cab to get all this working..? (I have VZW.. so I'm not sure about cricket)

Question is fairly clear. I posted link to ppcgeeks where my origanl question was, and when I said something about ruffling featers. Will I get anywhere asking this group to help me since it is a near perfect mirror of ppc geeks as for as stickies, threads, even what is in the threads word for word, bashing ppc for not having the backbone to answer my request for help and trying to get it here? If you read my post at ppc showing that my mms kinda works, my net does work my gps doesn't work, dialing *228 after going thru a list of prls. I guess it would be obvious of the whole, is there a question here?
How come my gps don't work after filling all appropriate fields in?
What the hell is up with my mms?
Why can't I get *228 to program my phone after changing prls
Why does the evdo change to 1x when in call and on net?

Why hasn't cricket mofia chirped in?
And, isn't the process I went thru supposed to give me evdo rev a? To0's rom didn't, even after boasting it did. I have done dcd roms, but they seem to be too blahh for me. In my post at ppc it shows my pc is junk (ibm). Figuring out my build os to come up with with my own rom is a joke, it took me 2 hours to do first post here. (really) and ended up having to do it on my titan. Only thing I would trade on the vito rom is the feedback in exchange for windows update.
Sorry, but you asked.

Wow that seems like a lot of frustration, I am sorry to hear that. Have you tried to bring the phone back to its original carrier like Verizon or Sprint and then started over with the latest Radio and DCD Rom? The reason I ask is it seems that you might need to start from a known point to "clean" out all the "custom" stuff. You also might want to contact Bunvilla as he PMed me with Cricket info and has he Mogul working on Cricket:
well i bought a qwest mogul which was configured for qwest network. It took a few day to find a way to get the SPC or MSL code as they call it which allows me to go into the settings and change it from qwest to cricket settings. Once the settings have been changed then u will be able to gain access on crickets network. There is a very important file called a PRL which u need to load onto the phone but can only do it if u have the SPC code. good news i can tell u how to get any carries SPC code for the mogul/ its a piece of cake to switch and way cheaper of a bill and u will have access to all the features internet and everything. hope this has helped " cricket rules"

I unfortunately am not on Cricket with my Titan. I am getting ready to flash a Verizon Motorola K1m KRZR over to Cricket but it seems way different process. I hope you do figure it out and some one on Cricket here can help you get past this ugly mess. Hopefully Bunvilla can help. I will PM him now and ask him to get in touch with you.

Well, first I would like to help you… but you posted a link that does not take me to a post.. it takes me to a general forum.. And it’s the Vogue Forum at that. I’m not searching another board for your question. So Excuse me for not knowing your question.
Second, While I have not read your post there.. If you posted with anywhere near the lack of information or general attitude (as if you are entitled to be helped) as you did here.. I can see why nobody helped you. (edit I see more info in your second post but you are all over the place and filled with irrelevant info it's hardly readable)

Yes, a proper post with a well phrased question, information on what rom / radio / and steps you’ve taken.. and a proper post title will almost always get a response and the help you need to get you on the right track. The post title is important because people see those and decide.. “Hey I know how to fix that” (MMS and GPS on Cricket Help) would be a good one. Your title “Will this work” will be skipped by most people. So… if you don’t follow those steps.. NO it’s not worth asking here.

It’s possible you did something wrong… Because a rom does not work for you, you cant go blaming the rom.. unless everyone or most people have the problem. (I’m not familiar with that rom) If many people use it, and it works for most.. then the problem is probably you.. Bashing the rom will get you nowhere fast.
** Edit** Didn't realize To0's Rom was installed for you for $$.. odd?

DCD is what I use… Not sure I can help you with another rom… I cant fix your PC either. Whats blahh about a DCD rom.. Can you tell me what makes another rom better. They are all about the same except the performance tweaks and stability. DCD is stable and performs well.. everything else is an app that can be installed on any rom.

You obviously have a lot of problems….
If you want help.. you need to run something most users can support.. you say DCD roms are blahh.. But that’s where you’ll get the best support.

So I think I understand.. you are at SPL 2.40? Because 2.47 would not work? You put a sprint rom on it, but it says no radio?
Are you against DCD 3.2.6? I'll cook you a rom with the features you want and put it on my FTP if your computer is too slow to do it.
Do you have an SD card thats less than 2GB and formatted with Fat 32?
If so.. I should be able to help you get working.

Why hasn't cricket mofia chirped in?
wow!!!! Its gonna be ok lil buddy. hang in there and have some patients ( i know your patients has been depleted) and i will try and help u to get answers and your phone working properly again.
I personally have so much on my plate that i dont get to "ppc geekout" as much as i used to.
1) How come my gps don't work after filling all appropriate fields in?
well the answer is that u shouldnt really have to enter anything in any field/ just make sure that the radio and the rom are both of the GPS rom release. cant have a pregps radio with a gps enabled rom, this is not good.
2)What the hell is up with my mms?
mms is a fickled thing , especially for us cricket people/ the problem is the wap settings and some wierd issue in the reg where a certain setting would basically block our phones from recieving the mms message.
Long story short is that with the updating of roms (from wm5 to wm6 to wm6.1) the mms seems to also have changed and just when we figure out what the problem is , it gets changed. and also cricket service doesnt use as sophisticated servers for handling mms as lets say "sprint" so we cricket people have to make changes to get our mms to work . BUT in a nut shell i have successfully got mms to work with the latest PPCKITCHEN rom release.
It took me 5 1/2 hours to figure out y i couldnt get PPCKITCHEN to work on my computer./ had to use a utility to remove netframe work and then download a 200mbsfile of netframe 3.5 and that did the trick.
3)Why can't I get *228 to program my phone after changing prls?
BECAUSE U DONT HAVE YOUR SPC or MSL CODE SET TO 000000!
PERIOD!!!! im not yelling just letting u know exactly y/ ive done this successfully twice to my current titan/ cricket sets its SPC code for all its phones to 000000/ so when it trys to access your phone it cant get pass the code/ i have the modem drivers and program u will need (which i dont know if we are aloud to mention it here) but i have it and will pass it on to u/
4)Why does the evdo change to 1x when in call and on net?
now naturally your phone will switch betwwen evdo and 1x /1x when you recieve or make a call send a text msg etc, and evdo when using data/
connection/ Now i also expierenced a couple months back when my phone all of a sudden would not stay in evdo mode no matter what i did/ i think it was a certain rom and radio combo which fixed it, but anyhow first things first.
PS by the way, these 2 files have gotten me unstuck from the boot loader mode a bunch of times and i would say the most valuable files to have are these two/
i will PM u ok , lets just take it slow k, your situation sounds like a bunch of software issues which is ALOT better than defective hardware issues

JPWHRE
sorry if my spelling suks im a lil tired/ I did get a PM from jambrose/ So just to let u know, that u should give him a big thanks/ not that i wouldnt of helped u if i came across your post but to be honest i dont read alot of the posts anymore/
And by the way jambrose, its good to hear from u. Im glad u r out there helping these guys, and keeping the support going.

hey JPWHRE
for some reason i cant send u an attachment in a PM so i guess ill post the files and info here ok
1)First run the "titan RELOCKER" file with your
phone connected to active
sync, it should return your
phone to the stock
bootloader/
2)Next run the "titan unlocker"
next , this will allow u to
install olipro 1.20/ after
running the unlocker and
following its instructions u
might be in bootloader mode
if i remember right
3) your phone should be in
bootloader mode now,(if it
aint, put it in boot mode) so
just run the "ROM update
utility" in the "olipro 1.20
unlocker" folder im sending u
k/
** u may still be in
bootloader mode when u r done
installing the 1.20 BL, NO
PROBLEM, just run the
DisconnectActiveSync.exe file
first in the "Unlockboot
folder" i have included, THEN
the "titan_exitbl.exe"/
THIS should cause your phone
to reboot.
4)next i believe we r ready
to load radio ( for some
reason the radios can only be
installed using olipro 1.20)
in the folder i have the
radio in, u will run the ROM
update utility and install
the radio.
5) Next u will need to update
your bootloader to 2.40, so
that u can load a custom rom.
Just run the
"Hard-240SPL-MFG.exe" file
ive included and it should
update u with no problems,
Once this has been done u can
now go and install ROM of
your choice/ *** PPCKITCHEN latest rom release allows MMS for us cricket folks**** and if u installed the ROM and cant get the MMS to work just PM me and ill give u the instructions to enable it, there is some adjustment that will need to be made first , so dont worry , we will get it working k**
6) well my friend this has
taken alot out of me/ i will
post these instructions im
giving u under your thread
that way incase i have missed
something, somebody can
inform us/
PS GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND, and
if u get stuck or have a
question, just PM me, but if
i dont get back to u right
away, be patient, k
heres a link to all the neccessary files, its to big to add as an attachement:

DID THIS HELP U???? I havent heard one way or the other from u so i am wondering if this worked for u ??

Just looking for a place to start...
I have Cricket on my PoS Cricket phone. Unlimited mobile web on my account. I also have an originally T-mobile Wizard which I've been using just as a mini-laptop and to learn to cook, flash, etc on...
I'm about to buy a Mogul which is supposedly Cricket flashed and/or a Sprint phone originally. As I understand it, either of these should be qualifiers for a fully functional Cricket Smartphone, yes? I want my voicemail, text messages, to surf the web via my cell connection as well as wifi. Bluetooth, gps, and just about anything else are icing that isn't -truly- a requisite for me. What thread should I start reading for -any- Rom that will accomplish the above. I don't mind if the rom is "too blahh". If you are opposed to singling out a specific rom that you (as a cricket customer with a running mogul) like...You could always post a few that you know work. I understand how the "best rom" politics go.
Also, if there are any other considerations I should keep in mind, please reply!

NOOBS COME HERE (Flame retardant zone)

So I've been a silent observer and massive leach on this forum for sometime, and I've felt like I should try to contribute something back to the community. I can't program ****, I'm little more than an adv. newb at this point. But I do understand how to flash roms, where to find things on the forum, Hard SPL, radio upgrades, REg edit, and all manner of things that most noobs don't. So the way I would like to give back to the community as a whole is to try to answer questions, ANY questions noobs might have without flaming them. My hope is that alot of the questions that annoy our senior members can be directed here, and I can help people find the answers to their questions. I usually check in 2 or 3 times a day, and as long as the traffic doesn't get overwhelming I'll do my best to help.
Thanks to all the chefs, Moderators, and senior members who contribute so much to keep me crack addicted to my stupid cell phone.
where can I find a threaded "palm" like sms application?
totally kidding, this is the most asked question on here i think.
I think rather than do a Q and A, see if you can post step by step "noob" questions defining the differences between hardSPL, radios, ... and why everyone talks about them.
That would be a good bit of information that we can add to the wiki. Just define the key words everyone talks about or something. Personally, I have flashed a few roms on my 8525s but still dont read enough to determine why people like the older radios vs the 1.48. and why some roms dont have radio and such vs ones that do. That alone would be beneficial to me.

From what I can tell people some people use older radios for several reasons.
1st Flashing the radio is potentially extremely perilous. It's not hard to do but if something goes wrong it CAN potentially brick your phone. Even if you have Hard SPL. Therefore some tend to be more conservative about flashing their radios. Roms are available without the radio for this reason as well, it's less dangerous and people have varying opinions about which radio is best
2nd which radio is best for you seems to depend somewhat on what area you live in, what service you have, and whether battery life or performance is more important to you. Their are various opinnions about which radio version is better but they all seem somewhat subjective. PEople report better signal strength with one version or another, or better battery life with one version or another. But from what I can tell 1.48 and 1.40.3 seem to be two of the favorites. 1.48 because it's new and doesn't seem to be causing TOO many problems, and 1.40.3 because its tested and most haven't had trouble with it.
Hope this helps.

Well since I like the idea of a flameproof zone, I will jump in here as well. Before you even consider posting a total newb question you should have read a couple of dozen posts, just like yours. Because then you would know that you would get flamed for not posting all of the important information. Are you using XP or Vista? what radio version are you using, what bootloader did your phone come with. What IPL/SPL?

There are detailed instructions on how to do this. AND it's very important that you do. Don't give up if you have problems getting hardspl as I'm sure you already know it makes flashing ROMS much safer.

There has hardly been any action here for weeks. So at this rate I'll be on to my next phone before I get "the ****s with the nooby questions" But your right if it takes off I'll probably regret it
alright, learned a lot in the last...day or so, flashed olipro finally, tried out some roms, settling with jasjammins black majik for the time being, and flashed radio 1.50. now time to figure out some more cool things to jump into
okay, the sim and cid unlocker is confusing the hell out of me... if i've installed hardspl 2.10 olipro and it enables supercid, then why do i need to unlock the sim or the cid...? do i need to use the unlocker in order to upgrade my rom to a new one...? i'm using an at&t 8525...
thanks for this thread by the way... sometimes i just need things to be explained in a plain clear fashion from people who know how to use the english language and sometimes when i read things on here the english language is butchered and things don't come across right and becomes confusing... i'm just looking for simple answers to simple questions...
from what ive gathered so far, olipro basically puts the device into a temporary supercid mode when flashing so you wont run the risk of bricking the phone via a corrupted cid, so i dont know why one would need to be permanently cid unlocked. And as far as sim unlocking, that is so that u can use ur phone with any carrier using sim cards, att, tmobile, etc. and if u have the 8525 and are using cingular i dont see why u would need to sim unlock unless ive missed something as im still a "noob" to a lot of this stuff but im workin on it

And as far as sim unlocking, that is so that u can use ur phone with any carrier using sim cards, att, tmobile, etc. and if u have the 8525 and are using cingular i dont see why u would need to sim unlock unless ive missed something as im still a "noob" to a lot of this stuff but im workin on it

yeah, i'm still a noob more or less, but it's getting better... it's just some of this stuff is a little complicated and i like to see things done on a step by step basis, like a cookbook... here is the recipe and here are the ingredients and here is how you put them altogether and viola, a fine dish...
okay, i understand about the temp supercid when flash thanks to hardspl 2.10 olipro... i don't know why someone would need to have a permanently unlocked cid either, since i can't seem to find an explanation as to what a cid unlock will get you... a sim unlock i understand fully about moving the phone to other networks via a sim... i'm just interested in knowing if i have to do anything besides run hardspl 2.10 olipro to upgrade to a new rom...
im running with att, got my 8525 on ebay already unlocked with an older version of olipro installed and the black shadow rom. I flashed to the newest version of olipro (after a few difficulties with the 260 error which i havent really had since), flashed to a newer radio (1.50) and tried like 5 different roms. I have no idea if my phone is perma sid unlocked. If u want some step by step recipe type directions check out the mrvanx website and read one of the guides for installing one of the roms which are on there, starts off with installing olipro and goes thru till the end, and if the guide isnt dealing with the rom u want just substitute the one u want in

right... i went to mrvanx' site and read the instruction 10 times over... seems straight enough... i'm going to try out the tnt 2.0 6 meg+htc rom, but i wanted to start from scratch with the phone... right now i'm a little stuck... i tried a hard reset just to get everything back to where it was, but i don't think i'm doing it right or the at&t 8525 that i have (which is brand new from at&t) isn't giving me the screen i need to be seeing according to the wiki... the wiki states that if you want to hard reset, hold down the 2 softkeys (the two keys on the left and the right at the top of the keyboard) and press the reset switch with your stylus at the bottom of your device, then you should be presented with a screen that says 'R' for reset or 'X' for exit... i didn't get that screen at all, but it does do a reset (apparently), but my name and contacts are still intact... i thought a hard reset was a total wipe of the device... maybe i'm wrong...?
also, i go to the bootloader screen and it says herm100 ipl-1.04 and below that it says herm100 spl-2.10.olipro... most confusing...
okay... here is an update on the hard reset... i instead went into the clear settings applet and hard reset that way... however, when i do a bootloader screen check, it still says ipl-1.04 and spl-2.1.olipro... i thought it would change everything back... so now it is all clear... i'll reformat my minisd card to fat32 and then i'll install the new tnt 2.0 and see what happens... i'll keep you up to date on any issues...

Will Verizon be releasing an update?

I've searched and didn't find an answer on this so if it has been asked and answered I apologize.
Since Sprint and HTC have released a ROM update will Verizon be following suit?
My phone is a daily worker and I can't afford to spend the time with trial and error on DCD's ROM, although it is very tempting.
Thanks

I myself haven't seen any official confirmation or even hinting from VZW that they're releasing an upgrade. Sprint announced it what, back in October? I'd imagine if VZW was going to follow suit we would've heard something by now. I'm gonna check a few sites and see what I can find.
Was wondering the same thing earlier today.
I doubt it...
I asked a second level support tech that yesterday and he didn't know anything about it - but that is not a surprise to me...
Its fairly common knowledge in some circles that VZW is very secretive (or maybe they just dont let their ppl know) about this stuff.
I imagine an update is indeed in the works, but nobody you talk to at VZW will have any knowledge. Those familiar with VZW and updates also know that it will probably be some time after the other carriers have their updates out. Slow and steady must be their motto...
Why wait? Trial and error with DCD's rom? Load and go.
I'm with Sprint and can't even see myself ever running a stock ROM again.

We haven't, but there are a few little nagging issues that might be resolved by a stock ROM from Verizon w/ GPS and Rev A.
For me, anytime I run a *228, my phone goes into the 20 minute acquiring signal dance. I hate that beat.
After reading through 50+ pages in the regular ROM and the 4 pages on VZW I'm holding off because of some of the smaller problems people are having with wifi, MMS, bluetooth, etc.
I'm the kind of person that if there is a 1% chance of it happening it will happen to me and I can't afford to be without my phone.
Plus it is still a bit confusing with the radio stuff, loading 2.40 unlocker first, it gets a bit much for a dabbler like myself.
Maybe if there was a very simple cut & dried walk through of what you need to do to prepare/download/install then load I'd do it.
Heck, I didn't even know what the hell a 'kitchen' was in regards to a ROM when I first got the XV6800 and I've been a smartphone/pocket pc guy for a long time
It is very very easy to go back to the stock verizon rom and radio as well as the original bootloader if you have any of these problems....but as I've said in other threads....I've flashed 3 phones now with absolutely none of the problems you've mentioned.
In that case could you point me to the best walk through on doing it including what I need (bootloaders etc)? I've seen so many that make it seem like defusing an atomic bomb and then other that just say "run it & git er done' so I don't know which to follow.
Thanks so much

Search my posts. I made a good one step by step last night.
Man you have a ton of posts to search through I think I found the right one.
So you've got MMS working no problem? I use MMS all the time and don't want to loose it like some people have.
Your steps seem to involve already using a cooked ROM are the steps the same for a 'virgin' xv6800?

The only additional step for a virgin xv6800 is that you need to install Olipro 2.40 unlocker first. Be sure to turn off USB in ActiveSync when done and the phone will boot back into the OS. You can then run the Sprint update (DO NOT LET THE SPRINT CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN!) followed by the cooked DCD ROM.
Be sure to check off MMS when cooking the ROM. If you don't see it, DCD left it out and you might have to find the OEM from an older version (it was left out of 3.0.0) My old GF from when I was 14 found me on MS monday and used MMS to send me old pics yesterday....it works. ;D

I have a 'virgin' xv6800 enroute. It should arrive Thursday or Friday. My first task will be to see if I can get GPS working. I'm a veteran Kyocera 6035, then 7135, followed by a Treo 650 but reading about cooking the ROM, etc is truly virgin territory!
Can you post the link to the post you found? Thanks!
I know verizon isn't exactly known for giving it's users new featured readily but my guess on this is they WILL eventually offer an updated patch with this GPS and RevA so they can rent you VZNavigator on a monthly basis.
But expect them to disable normal satellite tracking and limit it to AGPS reception so your forced to use VZNav and not Google Maps!

Very easy? Would you point me in the right direction on where to find the original radio rom, as well as the OS rom? From what I understand to get back to the original bootloader, you just have to use the titan relock, right?

Pro with the MMS? Maybe you can tell me how to hell to use it. I'd like to look at pictures for more than 5 seconds. It's such a pita to use, maybe I'm just not comfortable with it yet. I hated my last phone, but it was so easy to sent and view MMS messages.
Since you're going from the stock rom, there's a chance you won't be able to place calls after the flash.
Call verizon, tell them you did a hard reset and can't place calls. If they press for answers, make something up... installed a program and the radio went apespit, etc. They'll get you working again.
Over at hofo a user said the tech on the phone asked him if he unlocked the GPS, the caller played stupid, but the tech knew what was up and still helped him out.
SO far so good.
I installed Olipro 2.40.
I then installed the stock Sprint ROM.
I let it run until i aligned the screen and it connected to my computer then I re-set it. I didn't know when it would try to customize my device so maybe I stopped too soon.
I'm not sure what you meant by "manually set it in bootloader" after that and since nothing came up asking to set anything on the reset I continued on to the DCD ROM.
It loaded no problem and everything seems to be working but I just tried a test call after doing *228,1 and it says they can't authenticate my phone.
SO at this point I guess I need to call VZW and get some help right or did I do something wrong

You stopped at the right time.
You will need to let Verizon know that you had to hard reset your phone and need the A Key. They will help you.

Takes awhiel to get signal

Ok.. I just got a new XV6800. I'm a complete newbie at this.
I installed:
SPL: 2.40
ROM: 3.2.3
Radio: 3.42.30
It was a brand new phone & not activated.
Everything seemed to go ok.
I rebooted.. Had a real difficult time getting a wireless signal.. Eventually got one.. But kept getting signal lost when trying to dial *228..
Finally got it to go through.. phone reboot.. signal didn't come back..
So what did I do wrong? Any ideas how to fix it?
*sigh* I really wish you people would search the forums.
I'm not even bothering to copy/paste the explanation, all you get is a link...
http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/#signal
Actually did search but never found that link. Appreciate it. I'll follow it and hope it works for me.
P.S. I used google to search the forums as was indicated and never found the post that way.. Only one I found was
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1944961&postcount=1
which didn't help.

I think the correct sequence is:
SPL: 2.40
Radio: 3.42.30
ROM: 3.2.3
Carrier CAB
I would also suggest to activate the phone first with your carrier and make sure that the phone works before flashing it.

I flashed mine before activating it and I didn't have any problems. It saved me a phone call (didn't need to call for a new A-Key).
BTW -- Thank you.. Not sure how it happened but it actually fixed itself.. I kept trying to run ##778 & EPST and it would never work.. Finally after about 20 minutes it got a signal lock but still not EPST or ##778.. I rebooted the phone and it was working & had a signal. I rebooted again and still working with a signal.. Maybe it just needed to acquire a signal once after being activated with *228

Exactly the link I've been looking for...been contemplating a cooked ROM flash but there is so much information all over the place its hard to figure out exactly what you need to do.
That site provides a simple, no-nonsense how-to
I'm still going to wait and see what happens with the VZW 6.1 update that is supposed to come out within the next few weeks.
Again, thanx for posting that link

You can use any of them except the VERIZON Rom upgrade. The VZW ROM upgrade locks down the GPS while the others (Telus, Alltell, Sprint) open the GPS all the way up.
-= WARNING: DO not let the Customizations run for a differnet carrier. If you do you will tie your phone down to that carrier. =-
If you want to go Stock then I would recommend the Alltell ROM. has the latest radio.
If you want to go Cooked then I recommend NueROM3 Pre3. You have to Donate to get a copy of it but its nice. It allows you to disable camera to gain extra memory.
Eitherway, good luck.
hi i also have cellcom and i was wondering if you ended up upgrading to the 6.1 rom and which provider you used on the htc website.
no, i have not updated my rom yet, i am looking at cooked rom but haven`t took the plung yet. if you do let me know how it works for you.
well i recently tried to install the altell from and when its started to install it said it wasnt compatiable with my device and then it just went back to all my old settings and no data was lost. i also went to my cellcom business sales rep and she said they most likey wouldnt be putting out the new 6.1 rom.
sorry for the spelling errors. this makes more sense now

I too am with Cellcom and have been very frustrated with this phone. Have you guys tried DCD's ROM? You realize you have to upgrade the bootloader and radio before you update the ROM don't you?
If you are interested, PM me and I would be happy to tell you what I have learned. I have spent over 10 hours reading this stuff and am fairly technically savvy. I have not done the upgrade yet only because I am waiting for a response from Cellcom on them putting out a 6.1 upgrade with GPS enabled.
I may upgrade anyway depending on if I can't stand it any longer (and that is pretty close). Incidentally, their coverage has been GREAT in our area.
well if you could explain this too me i would appriciate it cuz i dont understand what i have to do to upgrade to 6.1. also cellcom will not be coming out with the 6.1 rom.
Based on what I learned so far, I will give you the steps below, but first, I highly recommend you read the WIKI at the following 2 links...
SUGGESTED READING
1) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Titan
2) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanRecentHome
STEPS TO UPGRADE
1) Read the 2 WIKI's above
2) Dial ##778 on your phone and hit SEND. This will start a utility called EPST. Write down ALL of the EPST information including all parameters on ALL the VIEW INFO softkey submenus. Later when you need to edit the EPST info, our MSL unlock code is 000000 (six zeros). Make sure after entering the MSL that you hit the OK softkey and NOT the enter key on the keyboard as that does not work (it just beeps at you).
3) Replace the stock bootloader (probably version 1.07 LOCKED if you phone is like mine) with a new UNLOCKED bootloader. I recommend nue2.47-SPL Installation Package found HERE (there is a PDF with instructions inside). To find out what bootloader you have, hold down the POWER button and the CAMERA button and hit RESET (while holding the other 2 buttons down. The phone will boot to the "rainbow" screen and show you the SPL version. Just hit reset to reboot the phone.
4) Install a new radio ROM. I recommend version 3.42.50 found HERE (this is one of the newest radios and supports the built in GPS).
5) Install a new ROM. I recommend dcd3.2.6 found HERE
The reason I made the suggestions above are based on everything I read, dcd's ROM is VERY efficient. You will have much more memory left over, the phone will be much faster and more stable, etc. It will be Windows Mobile 6.1 with a working GPS.
Read thru the WIKI's for detailed instructions on how to complete the steps. There will be ways to do this via USB cable or SD card (make sure you use less than a 2GB card). I recommend doing ALL the flashing via the SD card as supposedly that does not effect your A-Key (Authentication Key). Once done, you re-enter all of your EPST data and supposedly you should be up and working.
The only step I feel a little gray on (will make more sense after reading the WIKI's and learning about the work dcd has done) is dcd recommends installing a "carrier cab" when you are done. Since Cellcom is a tier 2 provider, I don't believe there is a "carrier cab" for us, but I believe manually re-entering all the EPST data takes the place of this. If it still won't connect, you can supposedly dial *228 once the phone is working to have the carrier automatically setup your network connection.
Since you are with Cellcom, you are probably located near me geographically. I would be willing to help if you are interested as I obviously want to do this too. I believe you said you have 100 phones? I have 1. Therefore I would love a little more assurance that I am doing everything correctly before I jump into this.
If you are interested in working together, send me a private message and we'll work something out.
Good Luck and please let me know if this works for you (I believe it should).
If you more experienced phone flashers out there see any errors in my post (or want to add assurnace that I understand steps correctly) please feel free to voice an opionion.
P.S. I had this post 99% typed out and acidentally shutdown Firefox! Argh! I typed it again cuz I really want to help you and verify this works with Cellcom before I jump in too.
Also, if you decide to use dcd's ROM and we get this working, I suggest we send him a paypal donation. I will be for sure. From what it sound like, he puts a ton of time into fixing this phone and helping people out.
Thanks for all that information. I am hoping to try this soon once I read a little more in depth
That would be fine. If any Cellcom'mers out there successfully update their phones, please let me know. If I can get confirmation that it can work, it may persuade me to make the plunge.
hello, i was just wondering if u went ahead and upgraded. because today i went into cellcom and i talked to a tech guy and he said a guy came in with a htc 6800 updated to 6.1 on us celluar and it wasnt able to work now its stuck with us cellular unless he goes into us cellular and pays to get it unlocked. he said cellcom has nothing to do with the updates and that htc puts them out. i am in the process of contacting htc and hoping to get them to release a 6.1 rom for our phones.
Why doesn't he just put no2chem's nueSPL247 on his HTC6800 and unlock it himself?
idk i didnt talk to him myself thats just what the tech person said to me cuz he was suggesting i should upgrade till htc comes out with the update. i think if we get enough people to complain to htc they would work on releasing it.
offically have WM 6.5 on my moguls. Runs Great. if you still need help let me know. i have done alot of reading before i went ahead with all of these updates.

What to do, just ordered my HTC hero on t-mobile uk.

Ok,
So after spending a few years with an o2 xda/htc artermis which I flashed a couple of years back. Tomtom running nicely etc... i've decided to order a htc hero on t-mobile.
I've had a look around the forum and noticed Modaco's custom roms.
Now, i'm not totally confident in doing this... but with this kind of thing I never am... I crossed my fingers many times when flashing my old o2 xda. I want the wifi tethering app, although most of my tethering will probably be done via usb anyway! This is just one reason for wanting it to be rooted.
Is there a way to backup my current state?
What procedures should I take?
I'm sorry if this post will annoy people, I have tried looking around and trying to get the information to sink in. But its just not at the minute. If anyone can help me it would be truly appreciated!
Also I thought I found an app previously, that could text the position of the gps coordinates if another simcard was enterered. Sounds like a useful app if it ever goes missing although I know gps signals are unreliable indoors!
http://www.trackdroid.org/simchecker.html ok so that seems to be what I'd need for that, lol. And needs a rooted device. I'm slowly learning. i.e. the apk needs to go in the system/apps folder to gain permissions? lol
ok so I think i've got it figured out... however can someome enlighten me on what the updated "radio" roms are all about? Will I lose my 3g settings? If so where can I find these out? (t-mobile contract uk).
I am not fully savvy with rooting and flashing ROMs but here is what I do know that will hopefully help answer your questions. When you install cyanogen's recovery, there is an option to back up your current system and it is highly recommended to do that before anything else.
The procedures are pretty simple, but if you need a bit of extra help, Google "The Unlockr" and they have video tutorials of how to get the recovery and the ROM onto your Hero.
As far as I know, the radio that you can install will improve signal and whatnot, should not kill your 3G. Again though, I'm not too sure so maybe someone can elaborate on this more.
Hope I was some help!
Thanks very much soulonfirexx, I figured that the "radio" updates, weren't updates to an FM radio and your elaboration does make sense! Everything sounds straight forward enough, does anyone know if my 3g broadband settings will need to be reconfigured? If so what are the details for t-mobile uk contracts or is this totally carrier dependant?

once you get ur phone,
first thing u do is go to settings-wireless controls- mobile network settings- access point names.
note down the settings (APN) there .
then u make a nandroid backup. after that you can proceed with the rooting and flashing. If u ever want your phone back to its original state, just run the back up.
after flashing the modaco latest rom, some have had to input the APN manually. its no big deal really. that is why i told u to note the settings before doing something. so once u flash, if u see that u dont have 3g coverage, just enter the apn manually and everything will be fine.
Cheers/
