I've got the Dopod U1000 version of the Athena with the original WM5 Rom. Unfortunately, a few months after I got it, both my laptop and my desktop (both running XP) suddenly stopped recognizing my Athena when I connected via USB. I always get an error message of USB Device Not Recognized. Since then, I've had to connect via bluetooth to ActiveSync. (The Athena does charge when connected via USB, just isn't recognized by the computer or ActiveSync, obviously.)
Now, I'd really love to upgrade to one of the WM6.1 cooked roms, but it seems I need to use Olipro's Athena wrapper first, right? And it seems that I need to be synced with the PC via USB to run the Athena wrapper, right?
Am I stuck with WM5 or is there a way to make this work? If not upgrading the rom, can I upgrade the radio, or does that also require the wrapper process?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
You must synchronize correctly in order to upgrade!
Now you should look for the cause why you can't synchronize? try to go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and see if the choice is checked uncheck it and do a soft rest and try synchronizing
I had that problem with my previous work computer. After several months the usb port I always connected to suddenly didn't recognize the Athena. Switched to another port, after a while it wouldn't recognize it. Etc, Etc. I was on my last port when they upgraded my computer.
Its been several months now and no problems. Have you tried another computer?
Bright Neon,
thanks for the reply. Have tried many times what you suggested with no success, as well several hard resets.
techntrek,
by different usb ports, do you mean the different physical ports to plug in on the computer? If so, I've tried both on my laptop and all six on my desktop. Don't have access to another computer at the moment.
So, there's no way to use the Athena Wrapper without being synched? From my reading, it seems possible to flash a new rom from the minisd. I was hoping something like that was possible for Athena Wrapper, as well. Definitely not, huh?
Yes, I meant the physical usb ports. I have no idea why it was such a problem for me on that older computer.
Sorry, don't have an answer for your question about flashing from the mini-SD.

I've extracted the needed file from the AthenaWrapper. See attached.
1st prepare a mini-SD card FAT32 formatted. Unzip and Copy the extracted file into it root.
Or with existing mini-SD, move all existing files into somewhere and copy this attached file
into the root of the miniSD. You must leave the root solely for this special file.
Place the mini-SD into the Athena and execute BootLoader.
It should instantly detect and automatically run the AthenaWrapper from there.
Ensure your Athena with sufficiant battery power or run direct from adaptor.
I've not use this method on wrapper but works fine installing rom.
I am not responsible if anything goes wrong from here.
So if you are comfortable to try than proceed. Otherwise wait for a better solution.
Pdajoy,
Thank you very, very much for the file and instructions!
Now, I've just got to see if I've got the courage to try it. If anyone else wants to weigh in on whether this is likely to work or end in disaster, I'm all ears.

I think it would be very brave of you to upgrade the SPL this way.
I can't remember anyone attempting to do it this way .
So many people were having problems that cmonex made a wrapper to try and prevent problems.
there are a few processes involved in this so I suggest you pm and ask her directly after reading both the AP4 upgrade posts.
it will not work from SD if you dont have a hardspl currently
Thanks for the reply. I just got my athena back from the shop in an attempt to fix the connection problem, but they were unable to fix it and said I'd need a new motherboard.
So, with no way to connect via usb, I'm stuck with WM5 on this device then, right?
Have you tried other computers. I would try several more makes/models.

there can be a way, actually. run SSPL (a spec version that doesn't have SD removed. current one has it removed, iirc), then use that to read in a ATHEIMG.NBH.
but I do not remember if for Athena SD works in SSPL loaded with jumpspl or only with SSPL loaded from diag (and the latter would require a hardspl already on the device)... drop me a PM and we can test this out.
This night sound obvious, but have you tried to use another USB cable?
Also, the USB port of the Athena is bit loss. You might want to try to use a small piece of paper inserted together with the USB male plug to make the contacts tighter.
Hey,
Thanks for the replies. I have tried several cables and computers. I even tried the suggestion of inserting paper to make the contacts tighter, but the fit is actually quite tight, even without the paper. I'm inclined to accept what the repair shop said - that there is a problem on the motherboard where it connects to the mini-usb. So, short of replacing the motherboard, there doesn't seem to be a mechanical fix to my situation. I thank you all again for your suggestions.
Cmonex, I'll pm you to take you up on your offer to see if there's a chance of upgrading without usb connection.
A couple years ago the connector on my XDA was broken. The service centre wanted something like US$300 to replace the mother board. I decided that it was not worth it and tried to repair myself. I opened the case and found that the "legs" of the connector were broken - I ended up soldering a mini USB port to the mother board and used it for another year before it was stolen!
My point is it is worthwhile to check whether it is just caused by a broken "leg". If so it is quite easy to repair!
kwongwt,
thanks very much. The guy at the repair shop had the intention of replacing the mini usb, but said there was a problem on the motherboard itself where the mini usb would connect. Don't know, maybe he was wrong and you are right.
I just found the service manual online and, yikes!!!, there is no way I can do this myself (even if I had the right tools). Just way too many ways for me to make a mistake in there. I'm impressed that you were able to do so.
So, until I get some more money together, I can't afford to get a second opinion from another repair place, unfortunately. I hope you're right and it can be repaired, but I won't be able to find out for a while.
Thanks again.
update... apparently the hardSPL flash worked from SD. maybe I'll release that SSPL later. but it seems he now needs to reflash the OS for some reason.
Yes, everybody. Cmonex saved me!
I have just successfully flashed michyprima's latest rom (spl 1.2). Going from original WM5 to this rom ought to be quite a leap, I suspect. And all possible because cmonex help me hardspl flash from sd. Who needs a stinking usb connection, anyway?
device not recognized - HTC Fuze
I was having the hardest time with my FUZE being recognized by my machines. I would have to reboot the phone and reboot the machine to get it to work. Even then it would only work once.
The fix was to get the original USB cable and use it.

So I recently downloaded the "RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_[1].15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship" ROM for my 8525, in hopes that it will provide me with a more stable pda/phone enviroment so that I may do the work I need to without having to hard reset every other day or so.
When I try to run the ROM install, I follow all the insturctions but when the update starts to run, it shuts my activesync connection off so the update can't run and throws back an error that it lost connection with the device.
Any Help Here? Thanks
PS: I love the idea of being able to use my 8525 for all my work and play needs, but if this update doesn't help make the device more stable, I will have to sell it for something that doesn't crash this much.
hey..iv got same problem.. i think it maybe cause we are using windows vista (thats the only information i can find about it).. i wanted to update ma rom aswell
I'm using XP Pro.
try running it on another system...if available...
anyone know the solution to this?!
OK, have you installed HardSPL ??
Check my SAFE WM5 upgrade guide, if you follow the procedures in there you should be fine.
Yeah, as far as stability goes most the wm5 roms out of the box aren't going to be the best. with any rom i use sktools to tune it up for performance/stability settings. It does this automatically so you don't have to find various registry keys. So don't think just because you are going to another rom everything will be okay.
Read the wiki, search the threads, you will find answers to all your problems.
As far as you not being able to connect what is your spl number? Also, have you tried hard reseting then connecting or trying another computer. I had the same problem when downgrading a black 2.5 with hard spl 2.1 ( i had to downgrade to send it back to cingular). I ended up just downgrading to the highest version of cingular rom which is branded AT&T. It looked like a pretty good rom but I did not play with it.
he does not need hardSPL(at least i dont think so) he is just runnning an update for another cingular ROM, its still the same CID...try running it on another system, i had this same problem and it worked on another system....

HardSPL will protect him against a faulty SPL flash if it occurs, a newer SPL is likely to be in the ROM update aswell as a newer radio possibly. Having the same CID doesnt matter because if the radio or SPL flashing procedure messes up it can create a bricked device VERY easily (corrupt SPL or even a corrupted CID/Radio BL). Besides if he already has HardSPL that would explain why the RUU doesnt reconnect when the device is in bootloader mode.

point well taken...=)
you mention, since he has already gotten HardSPL, why would that mean his device doesnt reconnect in bootloader?
put it in bootloader first and then run the update...
make sure you disable usb connections with active sync put your phone in bootloader and run the update might as well go with WM6 its a lot more stable than any WM5 rom i have played with .

I'm having a problem connecting ActiveSync over USB. When I first got the phone I was able to use that connection. Then I set up BT ActiveSync. I believe at the time I could use either USB or BT, but it has been a while. BT sync was so much more convenient for me that I haven't used my USB connection except for charging the phone.
Today I tried to get set up to upgrade the ROM, but ActiveSync doesn't seem to work over USB anymore. I turned off BT on the phone. When I plug it into my laptop's USB port the laptop makes a sound indicating it sees the connection. It makes a different sound when I unplug it. I also see the orange charge light come on on the phone. I usually charge the phone this way when I am on the road since I don't carry the wall charger with me.
I think at one point I installed a river that I fdound here to access the phone in bootloader moder. Other than veryfying the phone connected this way, I never did anything with the driver. IT has been so long that I don't remember the details. Could that be affecting the connection for ActiveSync?
I have made sure my firewall is inactive. In Windows XP Device Manager I see an HTC USB Sync device under Windows CE devices. Would it be safe to remove that device?
Any ideas how I can get USB ActiveSync to work again?
Is it totally crazy to try the ROM upgrade over the BT connection?

You may want to try using the Hard SPL v7 and then install your ROM. I did that and all went smooth as silk - six times now. I have been browsing ROMs to see which one suited my needs an personality, and it has been fun. You can find that on my FTP site at ftp://xda:[email protected]/xda_dlz/
This is a dynamic IP Address from a cable modem so two things are true
1. It is subject to change at any time.
2. It is not as fast as some of these speedy servers
But, I do know where it is.

I had tried this yesterday and checked the Enable advanced network functionality box. Today I unchecked it and suddenly the PC saw a new USB device (HTC Sync USB, I think). It still wouldn't sync automatically so I manually executed /windows/repllog.exe. This time it connected.
Some observations:
- After the connection was established the the name of my 8525 was changed to something different (something like WM_ComputerName1, Where ComputerName is my computer's host name). I changed the name back and was able to re-invoke repllog.exe and sync with the old name.
- If I disconnect the USB cable from the phone and plug it in again ActiveSync doesn't connect until I manually run repllog.exe. It does work when I run the exe on the phone manually.
I went ahead and started the upgrade process after connecting by running repllog.
Executing the RUU file from the HTC site first put SPL 1.11 on the phone and left the phone in bootloader mode (with the tricolor screen). I left the phone with bootloader screen and followed the instructions (although by now ActiveSync had shut down so the part about the AS connection that the installer asked for was not true). The progress bars appeared on both the phone and the PC. It took a few minutes to complete, but the update was successful.
After the upgrade I was able to sync over USB without any problems. I am now syncing my contact from Lotus Notes and setting things up to my liking. Once I got over the USB connection problem everything worked fine!
well, i can't figure out quite what has happened.
i was attempting to install hard SPL v7 prior to upgrading to the latest LVSW 0423 ROM.
activesync was connected, i ran RUUWrapper.exe and it dropped the 8525 into bootloader mode as it usually does. for some reason, the RUU app was unable to verify the info on the phone, so upgrade failed and it quit. i reset the 8525, and it booted normally.
well...now USB appears to be dead. forcing the device into bootloader shows
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.30.Olipro
Serial
connecting the USB cable does nothing - the bootloader continues to show "Serial". i can reboot and all is fine, radio works...nothing else is wrong except there is no comm via USB. the device charges via USB just fine, whether the 8525 is powered on or off.
nothing in the hermes bricked wiki page matched up, as i have a working OS and a working radio...but i saw in another post that being stuck with "Serial" is evidence of a corrupt bootloader.
ideas? thanks!
Try running the RUU again. If it is still dead then try flashing via SD card.

Flash HardSPL latest version first, otherwise you'll overwrite it because you have an old version which does not have SPL protection.

either your hermes usb connector is broken (which i doubt cos is able to charge) or you're using a bad cable, a bad usb port on computer, or an operating system without proper usb driver installation. For sure is not a problem of the SPL.

The WIKI is great. Pof gave you a nice sum'd up list.
ok...flashed hard SPL v7 successfully - now have SPL-2.10.Olipro but still no USB - pof was right (surprise surprise), it wasn't the bootloader.
i've now tried this using 3 different usb cables with 2 different USB ports on each of 2 different XP boxes. activesync is unresponsive on both (i've used activesync 4.5 successfully on both in the past) and when watching in bootloader mode then 8525 continues to show "Serial" in all cases.
maybe just one of the data pins of the mini-USB jack is damaged? intact power pins would still allow it to charge even if a data pin was bad.
unless anyone has another suggestion, i'm going to assume it needs to be rolled back to the cingular ROM and sent off to HTC for (attempted) warranty repair...hopefully nobody will notice anything SPL/CID related.
Bummer man. Try yanking the battery out while it is on and let it sit with it out for a while. Then roll back to your original ROM. Sucks if it where a bad pin.
This is a stretch, but anytime I have hardware connection issues (hard drive, flash drives, etc) I put them in the freezer for 10 mins. If it works, at least you know its the hardware.

LOL. I saw this somewhere before. Now for the more serious thought effects of extreme cold.
Moisture
Metals Expand and Contract
i popped the back off the 8525 and took a close look at the mini USB jack's pins, expecting to see evidence of a damaged pin (or more than one). well, no damaged pins - but i did find what looked to be a tiny sliver of metal that had worked it's way down (or in from outside) and was lodged between a couple of the pins. i used an x-acto knife to gently scrape between the pins as they traveled down to the main board, making sure not to damage any of the pins. went through all of them just in case, then closed it back up.
USB = working. problem solved.
thanks guys, as always i really appreciate your help.

Hi.
I am a bit embarrassed about writing this, I never thought I would make a brick of my Prophet during “upgrades”...
But here I am, with a phone that don't want to sync with any computer after I accidentally pressed cancel on an active sync dialog box asking for setup with a new device, during upgrade to the latest Touch VIII. Have upgraded several times with several different ROM’s before, but this time things went wrong.
If I choose to start my device normally, it goes trough the HTC screen and stops after the Qtek (HTC in Norway) screen listing the different versions of the hardware…
When I restart to boot loader (Cam button + reset) the 3 colours turn up ok, but when I put an USB cable in the device and the lower, left part of the screen shows USB, active sync will not recognise any new device no matter what I do.
I can still find the Prophet when I go to properties on the computer, but somehow active sync does not care about that.
Are there any way to use a program at the host computer to sync properly with the Prophet?
I would really appreciate any help that could rectify this problem.
Regards, Lars Norway

Tried the info there without success...
The guide assumes that you have connection with ActiveSync, but I can not seem to get connection.
So, I really need some advice about how to make a connection to the computer I will make the programming from, when ActiveSync is not working properly.
Have tried to restart both the device and the host computer, have reinstalled ActiveSync, have tried to start the different roms without having a connection to A.S., but no luck...
Have realized my mistake and bought a new Prophet, but would still like to get the old one working again.
it has nothing to do with activesync.
Not sure u really understand the below statement from the thread I mentioned.
RECOVERING FROM ERROR IN STEP 8 WM5->WM6
1. Don't panic
2. Don't panic
3. Unplug the phone
4. Reset with stylus, and keep the Camera Button pressed.
5. A 3 color screen will appear(Bootloader Screen)
6. Connect your device with your PC,and run the NVID(no vendor) WM5 rom.
7. The device will be resetted after RUU(rom update utility)finishes
8. Repeat the WM6 upgrade,from STEP 5..
in case you can't NVID roms, you can still use those step1 roms mentioned by ROM gurus here.

Well, the problem is that I am not able to connect...
As far as I understand, the only way to connect is by using ActiveSync?

connect = the cable between prophet and your pc. after that just run the rom update utility. just dun bother the activesync (does it sound logical to u to establish activesync in bootloader mode?)
OK, I have tried it, but will try on some different computers also.
Posting in a couple of hours.
Thanks for your help so far!
then wish u good luck. happy un-bricking.
OK, same as before.
Depending on which ROM I try, the following messages are the result:
Error [300]: Invalid update tool.
Error [274]: Connection (The update utillity cannot connect to your PDA phone.)
If I try the Touch VIII direct, it stops in Initializing for a while, and then a message appears with the text: Cannot connect to device, Would I like to try again?
Besides, in the welcome screen during the "ROMUpdateUtility_NV_G4.exe" in the Prophet_PV_Temp program, step nr. 2. asks me to ""Establish an ActiceSync connection with your PDA phone."
So, no change from yesterday yet...
are you using windows vistA???

No, on the contrary. The best change you have is XP. Zeroed asked about Vista because it could be the reason of your troubles.
What I should do is just one detail different of what you have already tried:
Put the prophet in bootloader.
DISable "allow USB conection" in the conection-setting panel of ActiveSync
Connect your prophet with the USB cable
Run the NVID RUU again
If that is succesfull, you can upgrade to the WM6 ROM you like.
OK, will do.
Tried Vista just now, same errors and no luck.
Be posting in a minute...
OK, now I'm back.
Made a restart of the host computer, changed settings in ActiveSync, startet my device in Bootloader...
But unfortunately, no more success this time either.
Feel that the device must be more seriously defective/broken than others, this mishap happend at the end of the programming, when the 3 partitions were being written in the device. I was loading Touch VIII...
Anybody know if there is any more combination of buttons or reset methodes I could try?
Next step is to start opening the Prophet...

Just wondering if your computer detects prophet as a device at all? Does the normal plug device sound comes on when you plug in? Just a long shot, stick in a SD card and try with windows media player to see if it can sync or put files onto SD card. if so, get rom refreshed via SD card...
try few hard resets before you try this.
Not quite sure I understood what you suggested. I can get the device up in the host computers machine properties, but there is no way to get it up in any other program - like the Windows explorer.
Or are you saying that there is a way to boot the Prophet directly from a SD card? That would impress me!!!

This sounds dumb, but try restarting your PC, closing all apps running in background (including firewalls), restarting Prophet (with stylus in reset hole). DO NOT TRY TO USE ACTIVE SYNC. Boot into bootloader (Three colours screen), connect USB cable and flash QTEK lastest official, or Jesterz AKU 3.3 (I have found this ROM to have magical powers of unbricking.)
Good luck!

Hmm this is wierd.I ran into problem earlier this month trying to flash a ROM but got stuck somewhere. So I followed the steps given in the sticky thread. Everything work smoothly. I am using XP SP2 and mine is a G3.
Let's make the assumption that your PDA is not faulty. Maybe you can try the steps again but this time :-
1. Change to another USB cable (or you may test the existing cable by connecting to a working pda)
2. Change to another USB port
3. Make sure you are not running any program that hogs the USB resource
4. If you are using USB hub, please don't connect using it. Make a direct connection to your computer.
that's all I can offer now...hope it helps.
im a tech for a sprint affiliate store and i have a customers mogul that she got into bootloader...normally what i would do in this situation is disable usb connection in AS...plug in the phone...wait for the drivers to install and use UNI_ExitBootloader.exe to get it out of bootloader...
but for some reason with this phone when i plug it up via usb...it still says serial, instead of switching to USB at the bottom and the program nor the computer can read the device
i have a test mogul here...and when i put it into bootloader...it says(rom 3.45 offical sprint windows 6.1)
"TITA100
SPL-2.07.0000
CPLD-9"
and it unlocks fine
the mogul that wont get out of bootloader says(rom 3.35 official sprint)
"TITA100
SPL-1.04.0000"
and thats it...
im stumped...
Run titan_exitbl instead of UNI. A quick forum search and you'll find it. See if that works for you.
ive tried that as well...the problem is when i connect the phone to the computer its supposed to go from serial mode to usb mode...and it doesnt...so the computer doesnt download the drivers and hence wont connect using either program...
ive scoured many forums for hours and have not been able to find a solution or even a description of my particular problem...
thank you for the suggestion but being im not a noob this doesnt seem like your regular search and find your answer type of problem

Run MTTY to exit BL.....
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_Stuck_Bootloader
BTW the 2.07 is the re-locker from NO2chem....
and no dice on that solution as well...just reads com1 and com2 under ports where you are supposed to be able to select USB
This is kind of a stupid question to ask....but did you try enabling usb connections in activesync and connecting it?
yes i did...wouldnt connect...but it will connect on my broke mogul and the working mogul i own...
which bugs me because i still dont think its a physical issue(like a broken USB port) because the customer was having problems sending SMS called tech support and they tried some stuff with her over the phone and she got stuck in bootloader...
im assuming this is a lost cause...but i try to repair as many phones as i can instead of just tossing people reconditioned ones...even though my store technically isnt a repair center...
thanx again for everyones suggestions...
and if anyone else has a clue wtf is going on lol...
please feel free to let me know
Flash from SD?
Since it is possibly dead anyway, how about try flashing from SD card as it will exit bootloader and reboot as its last ac ??? Can not hurt any worse;-)
so i need to take the installer file...get the RUU_signed.nbh file extracted from the ROM...rename it to TITAIMG.nbh...format the SD card to fat32...pop that baby in and see what happens?
thanx for that suggestion i totally forgot about that...
well good idea but still no dice...
i installed th ROM via SD card...it worked!...
fixed the SPl and CPLD errors fixed...so i know the ROM got loaded correctly...
the test mogul and the broken one look exactly the same in bootloader...yet i STILL cant get my comp to see the device...its still stuck in serial mode and wont switch to USB mode and i cant get it out of bootloader
edit:
wait...i turned the phone off...plugged it up via usb...turned the phone on and the damn thing worked!
phone booted right up...which is weird because i turned it off and turned it back on after i reinstalled the ROM from the SD card...
thank you guys for all your help...
you just really educated about 30+ TSRs from sprint affiliate stores in illinois, indiana, michigan, iowa etc etc
What does it say in bootloader exactly??? List everything on the screen.... sounds like if it works with the phone plugged in via USB, that you have the wrong bootloader on it.... Does it boot up without being plugged in??
well looks like i gave out the props a lil too soon lol...
im back to square one...installed ROM from SD card...took battery off...put it back in...turned phone on....if its plugged up via USB it'll boot up...add the extra sprint crap on it...as soon i unplug it and restart it goes right back to bootloader...and my comp wont see it as a USB device yet and still it'll see 2 other moguls i have chillen around my house
TITA100
SPL-2.07.0000
CPLD-9
is what it says...
omg this is nuts lol
if i leave the mogul unplugged from the USB cable after reinstalling the ROM from the SD card it just goes right back to bootloader...
it wont take a charge...nix that it took 5 minutes b4 it would accept a charge...
theres definately something wrong with the USB port...has to be...
It sounds like you fixed the software issues but I agree there has to be something up with the USB
the thing that puzzles me is that the usb port doesnt appear to be damaged at all...its still attached to the board...none of the pins are bent or broken...theres no water damage...
im baffled

1st, get some compressed air and blow out the USB port, and get a different cable.... try connecting it now - hopefully something was causing a bad connection....
In bootloader screen does it change from serial to USB on the phone screen when you plug it in?? If it does you can get the official Sprint update and run it while the phone is in bootloader, it should finish just fine..... try this and report back....
i tried compressed air...didnt change anything...the phone will charge but wont switch from serial to usb...its not the cable because i have a my working mogul and a test mogul here and both worked perfectly...
the phone will boot up and work if its usb port is in use(charging, syncing) but as soon as i disconnect the cable and restart for any reason it goes right back to bootloader...and it will not boot up at all if the usb port isnt in use...
like i said...this is easily the most retarded seemingly unfixable mogul break down ive ever seen...
its very interesting in a werid kinda dorky way...this mogul is impervious to traditional bootloader fixes lol
So try this, copy NueSPL to the SD card, and then boot the phone and copy it to the phone. Then run the nuespl so it upgrades the spl to nuespl 2.47. You already have the the 3.56 ROM and the 3.42 radio on it right???
Heres the link to nuespl nueSPL-2.47.rar
what radio version is installed?
reading your first post, SPL 1.x should not have been on the broken phone. I wonder if it failed during the 3.X ROM update. Maybe she tripped over the USB cable while flashing.. I've done it.
az ill go ahead and try that when i get the phone back...she didnt feel like waiting another day and i could def understand that...so when the exchange is done im going to bring it back home and play mogul dr...
and dcd she hasnt updated her ROM at all...it was the stock 3.35 rom that came preinstalled when she got it...and no diss to her but i know her and shes not that technically inclined...but ill note the radio and get back to you...
this is an issue resolution that could help a lot of people...
i appreciate all you guy's help and suggestions...
Sounds like USB port is broken.
Hi all,
I've read a couple of threads for several days now, but none of the answers worked for me.
Problem is: I can connect from my HD2 to my desktop PC (win 7) initially, but when I try to install a new ROM (3.14.407_2), my HD2 restarts, shows the four colour screen and nothing more happens. After some minutes, my PC tells me that my phone isn't connected anymore.
It worked two months ago for the last ROM flash, but now nothing helps.
Tried:
- rebooting PPC and PC several times
- deleting partnership and setting up a new one
- disabling "faster connect" for usb to PC settings - afterwards, PC doesn't recognize any connection at all
- hard reset on PPC
I have no idea what to try next.. I wanted to install HSPL2 and flash the ROM from my SD card, but can't install HSPL2 ... same problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Infyrana
I also tried several USB ports on my PC
You think the HD2 USB port is broken? But I was able to transfer data when connected as normal device without active sync.
Do I have any chance to check, whether you are right, without having to send my phone to HTC?
maybe running the update in compatibility mode will help?
I thought the microsoft mobile device center (or however it is called) was made for win7, as the actual activeSync tool cannot be used?
So I can't see a benefit from this, but anyway.. I will try.
You could try using BlueTooth with ActiveSync, thats what I do. I have a "micro" bluetooth adaptor for my laptop and it all works fine... just a bit slower.

the compatibility mode for the ROM update file could help becasuse it is a separate application (no guarantee though as I have no way to check it on my PC)
compatibility mode didn't help.
don't have a bluetooth stick ...
no further suggestions?
Just found out, that windows tries to install driver "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" when I connect my HD2 after starting bootloader.
But it just searches and doesn't find anything. I searched by myself, but didn't find the driver anywhere ...
if you are really determined to update ROM, find the thread on ROM 3.14 here on xda forum, I recall seeing guidelines on installing ROM from SD Card
of course it will not solve your sync problem, but still...
Yah ... I wanted to install HSPL2 to be able to do install the ROM from the SD card (at least that's what I understood - that I need that first), but I can't install it, as I already wrote.
I GOT IT!!!
Finally.. in a forum somewhere in a forgotten corner of the internet.. someone gave an advice to uninstall the windows mobile device center and reinstall it.
After uninstalling, I had some trouble to find it again, but finally got it.
And guess what: it works now.
Windows managed to install the quadcomm driver and I could update my ROM.
Never had such a hard challenge with my HD2.
Thanks everyone who tried to help!
