How to upgrade when no pass.32 match exists - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom Software Upgrading

Hi folks,
All I want is a stable O2 XDA Atom Life that doesn't keep crashing. Bought it on ebay and it has: WWE_RC2150507B1 installed, which is one of the first Mobile 6 editions.
I've tried installing several ROM's via the DSUU, but all say Customer or Model ID error. But pasting a different pass.32 file in Windows/Temp has no effect. It makes no sense to me why it isn't accepting the newer WWE_RC2170507B2
Looking at the pass.32 file in a hex editor, it says WWE AL1 Xda Atom O2 Xda Atom Life. If this is what it extracts from the Atom, then it seems like I should have no problem.
Are there any tricks that I can try? Or do I have to get my PhD in hacking, just so I can install an official ROM.
Thanks for any nuggets of advice you can give.

Doug
P.S. I doubt I will ever use the radio, so that part makes no difference to me.

Solved by bootloading from MiniSD
Well, I went and got my PhD in hacking anyway and was able to complete the upgrade the same day. Many thanks to awwei for his detailed instructions here on how to modify the flash files and load from MiniSD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1287849&postcount=235
Please see my reply to that post with additional comments.

Some interesting things on the T-Mobile 1.60 update software

I tried the T-Mobile 1.60 rom on my O2 xda2.
It works perfectly with my xda2.
However, I found some interest thing on the new rom upgrade process
1. It seems XDA2 (or HTC Himalaya) use one single program for RAIDO / Extended Rom / OS Rom update. It seems Radio upgrade failure may no longer case device failure, because the RADIO upgrade process is same as OS upgrade process, and not required to copy the whole software into the RAM to upgrade.
2. Sinces some of us (and my XDA2) report that the exteneded rom is READ ONLY, but the upgrade program can update the extended rom. That means the Exteneded rom is not REALLY read only, but somewhere locked it. More funny is , it is seems the Main OS rom is not controlling the exteneded rom is locked or not, because after I updated the extended rom, it is still locked.
3. If O2 XDA2 can use T-Mobile MDA2 update, it seems the upgrade software no longer check the header of the device (At lease this version won't). I think we can use it to change device's language. However I don't know how to dump the rom in .nbf format, is that possible to convert the nb1 format to nbf format?
Thanks.
Hi killercheung...
where are you find the 1.60 rom ?
and the radio what version is ?
Can you put it in my ftp pls ?
it's always on
ftp://dgmatic.com
user: xda
pass: xda
port: 21
...like this we can have it all
Thanks in advance

I asked here for you, hopefully it will be available for everyone soon:

killercheung, thanks for that... I'm still deciding whether to apply the new rom to my UK XDA II.... is the language of the rom netherlands? or can I have it all in english as it is with the normal O2 rom?
Do we lose anything from the o2 rom/extended rom ?
I'm wondering if O2 do bring an upgrade out if we'll be able to still use it if we've tried this t-mobile 1.60 rom.... hmmmmm
hmmm decisions decisions... do you think its much better than the current o2 rom?
Now that I have moved to the 1.60 rom, I must say there's ONE thing I DO miss ....
My O2 BUBBLES ARE GONE FROM MY ASIAN O2.
(I obviously knew this could happen, but thought I'd made a backup of my extended ROM (I DID, but I accidentally tossed it a few days ago) . Who would be so kind as to send me a copy of the O2.cab file from the extended rom, so that I can put the bubbles back into my dialer ...)

Re: Some interesting things on the T-Mboile 1.60 update soft
Hi Killercheung,
You've missed out something ... the EXE file can be unzipped (using Winrar) ... you will then see the same upgrade.exe files, nbf files (3 of them) ... you can then deleted the ms_.nbf so that only the CORE ROM and RADIO is updated, and keep all O2 EXTENDED_ROM content untouch.
You can also use the same method to upgrade to Chinese ...

Good news about the T-Mobile ROM. I don't know what they have fixed/patched, but my O2 XDA II ROM never bothered to disconnect the GPRS connection after having spent some time online, not after surfing, not after checking e-mail. Mind you the T-moblile ROM doesn't either, except ....... when checking e-mail, which in my eyes is quite important.
So now I can go back to have my XDA check my e-mail once per hour, knowing that it will disconnect automatically.
(And Satria, thanks for sending me my bubbles

Hi,
Just one question. Did any of you that make the update testet with the bluetooth GPS?
If yes, It works? or you still have to install TOWA´s patch?

For NBF, you can use XDAtools to capture the Chinese ROM, I did once with the English ROM and the file size is exactly the same as the one in 1.60 update. So there should have no missing bytes in the saved file.
For the EXTENDED_ROM, no idea how to save in NBF format ..
I have installed the update but TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5.

yikes...... did that happen on the old rom as well or did gprs stay connected on the original rom?
I hate the way gprs disconnects on devices.. it's supposed to be always on, and I'd really prefer if it stayed on during suspend etc so that MSN could stay connected, notifying me when I got a message....
Email checking likewise, I'd prefer gprs remained always connected and it'd check email in the background whether off or on, notifying me when it got a new mail.
I can't check the behaviour of my xda II since Im on "roaming" at the moment in another country so no gprs
but can anyone say for sure which way the old vs new rom work in this regard?
I did some research on the upgrade process, and fileformats:

Official i-mate rom won't install after installing t-mobile

Earlier, I installed unofficial T-Mobile 1.6 rom on my i-mate. I just recenlty tried installing the official i-mate update and there is a country code. I don't have the old rom to revert to. Can anyone help. I know I would have to at the least get a copy of the old rom and then install it into the i-mate. Again, since I don't have a backup of the old one, I would need info on how to get one first.
The T-Mobile unofficial one works fine. I just wanted to go back to always on gprs etc. that the i-mate update has. If not, I guess I will have to wait until the rom kitchen is up and running for this unit.

I think you better try it using bootloader way, because t-mobile protect it's update, it happen in XDAI if you update your XDA to 4.16 and you want to go back to 4.11 then you have to update it using bootloader to be able to go back from the previous one 4.11 8) hope this help you...opps correction please there is no bootloader on XDA II, there is bootloader but in different way, I think if you copy your old nbf to sd using xdatools and go to bootloader by using power+anydirection+ reset it will ask to download the nbf to you device... hmmm if this doesn't work you have to look for another way.
T-Mobile 1.60 BUGGY Rom - Want to go back to iMate ROM
Folks,
I'm in the same position - Can someone please outline the success they've had going back from the T-Mobile 1.60 ROM to Imate ROM 1.5283??
Any thoughts would be great... (I'm guessing the boot loader using an SD card may work but would love to hear of any new tricks that people have learned on this
Cheers

T-Mobile Back to iMate ROM
Thanks
I've uploaded the new iMate ROM image to:

The somewhat flakey T-Mobile 1.6.006 ROM (which I'm trying to get away from is at
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/TMobile160.zip
Of course, with the different operator / country codes, it's not just a matter of running the .EXE - It'll need to involve the boot loader of a little hex editing of the header, I'm guessing (just guessing?!)
The new iMate ROM is meant to be the best bet around at the moment and my device is an iMate in the first place. The only reason why I installed the T-Mobile one was to get the Bluetooth GPS fix (which works well) - BUT so many other things aren't as stable!!
The new iMate ROM is meant to have the BT GPS fix as well.
Any help, much appreciated!
Cheers
Andy

OK, made some time to create a batch file to upgrade.
Works only for upgrade from T-Mobile 1.60.06 NL to I-mate 1.53.82.
1. Download the ROM image ruu15283.zip from the site in this posting
2. Unzip the file with Winzip
3. You now get a file called ruu15283wwwe_cdl.exe
3. Extract this file with Winzip to a new folder
4. Extract the attached file to the same folder
5. Start the conversion and upgrade by double-clicking convert.bat
Since I'm out till Sunday, I can't check my mail to respond to problems.
Enjoy!
Can the first person brave enough to try this please confirm success.
IT WORKS!!

IT WORKED!
Thanks a million!
Let me know how to send you virtual beers or whatever

Nah, I'm not a good programmer, I just know how to write bachfiles and how to combine things to get the disered result.
Thanks has to go to Isme. He knows a lot about the internal working of the XDA II, the ROMS and the bootloader process.
He wrote the great tool used to change the file headers, so you can update your machine with a ROM of a different brand.
He's a good programmer!
If somebody needs a mod to upgrade from another ROM version, please let me know.
And if you want to do something back, please donate to the people who keep this nice forum up and running.
It worked. For those who want to get back onto the official path from unofficial t-mobile this is an automated way to do it. Thanks...Jon
Backing Up XDA2 ROM+CE
I'm a new XDA2 iMate user, want to back up my ROM+CE before I screw things up. I did this on my XDA1 (power + software reset, then press contact button I think). Anyway, I always had my ROM+CE backed up to a 64M SD card ... just in case.
I've searched these forums for such a procedure for XDA2 ... no luck.
What is the process, if any, to backup the XDA2's ROM+CE image to SD card?
Appreciate any help,
Craig
I think it's possible with the xda2dmp tool, but you better ask Itsme, he wrote it.
You can find it on this site: http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/xda-ii.html

Difference between i-mate 1.52.00WWE ROM and i-mate 1.53.82
Can anybody outline the differences between the 1.52.00 and the 1.53.82 official i-mate ROMs?
I'm trying to ascertain whether I have sufficient incentive to upgrade (given the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality I subscribe to in my old age!).
Sufficient incentive might be;

 Improved battery life
 Improved all-round performance.

O2 Xda IIs Asian Extended Extended ROM

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14132)
O2 Xda IIs Asian Extended ROM plus Xda IIx Extended Extended ROM
First off I'd like to say that some of you are pathetic to the core. Having said that I also like to add that I believe I can throw any amount of insults and yet the same people will still download in spite of. This brings us back to my first point.
I've posted the M.O. on extracting the Extended ROM from the Xda IIs but no one bothered to even try. Sad is that Xda IIs has been sold out of stock twice or more and yet zero Asian O2 Xda IIs owners came forward.
It doesn't matter anyway. End of story.
RE
Hi Dr. Stein!
Thank you for your postings.
I don't own an IIs so I really look forward to such postings to have an enhanced experience.
Thank you again.
RE
Hi Dr. Stein!
One question.
Whats the difference between the 2 EXT ROMs? Care to elaborate whats added/removed?
Thanks
RE
Ooooops! Sorry!
The 1st file is not the EXT ROM.
Umm, first of all I'd like to thank you for providing your ROMs to us. In my case, it's not like I'm not putting an effort in looking for an Asian XDAIIs Extended ROM. But the people that I know, none of them owns an XDAIIs. So I guess you should try to understand that not all people are as fortunate as you are to have a friend that owns an XDAIIs and allows you to copy files off it ... Try not to be bitter and just remember that we are just trying to help each other out here ... Thanks again, doc.
Thanks Dr. Stein! I hope my mongrel 2003SE will now begin to look like an 02 after im done customizing.
Apology
I sincerely apologize for my outburst. It was wrong for me to take on this forum as my wrath does not belong here.
And now for the business proper.
The first zip file contains the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14132) and Radio 1.18.00 and not Xda IIs ROM and Radio as this has not yet been exploited.
The second is the O2 Xda IIs Asian Extended ROM plus Xda IIx Extended Extended ROM which has two folders carrying CABs to be extracted to the folders named.
Dr.Stein
Trying to irritate you again Is it only for XDAIIs or for XDAII also
First file is it similar to dcs or mystery man's version. I mean is
OS ROM :2.06
or
OS ROM : 2.02t1
or
totally different?
. I am asking this as I am on dialup connection and it takes hours to download 17MB here
RE
Hi Dr. Stein!
Just to confirm.
In order to perform the upgrade I'll have to dump all the EXT ROM files (from the 2 folders) into the same folder as the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14132) and Radio 1.18.00 and then run HimaUpgradeUT, right?
2nd question - If I only need S'pore and Malaysia telcos I'll have to edit the AutoConfig file by deleting all other unwanted telcos and re-save it again, correct?
You need not to reflash ur device. I have my extended ROM unlocked so I just deleted everything from extended rom and filled it with the one dr. has provided. Did a hard reset and everything came alive. I've to say this extended rom is great except camera doesn't seem to work. I recon if i remove Camera_Patch_10080401.sa.CAB from config. txt, things should be fine with camera as well.
Don't forget to remove TPDISABLE.EXE from config.txt otherwise u won't be able to interact with SE warning msg. Enjoy!

Extract the contents of Extended ROM and Storage folders to the respective named folders existing in your Xda II.
Now run the HimaUpgradeUT.exe from the WM2003SE Xda IIx folder.

Provided the Xda II has already been flashed with WM2003SE ROM and Radio ROM of your choice.
The camera patch is needed for SE customization. Your camera didn't work probably because you did not install the CABs from the Storage folder I have included as an Extended Extended ROM. If you go through the Config.txt you will know what I am talking about.

Yes Dr. I did copy files in storage folder as well. All those cabs were also installed during extended rom setup as they're mentioed in config.txt file. My problem is that camera applicatin opens but viewfinder doesn't seem to work. Camea version is 2.21 (Build 17576).
Strange
Why does mine show Version 2.50 (Build 15954)?
Are you certain you installed the 2 Camera CABs from the Storage folder?
I'm sure because all other storage apps like extended rom unlocker, view, intellidial and intellipad are installed. I wonder what went wrong with the camera

Upgrading O2 firmware but different language

Hi guys, it's been a looong while since I've visited here. Trying to sell my Atom Life here in Taiwan but my Atom Life is English OS.
I've tried downloading the CHT OS from seeo2.com but the CID is probably wrong so it won't let me restore to it. Back in the days of my Cingular 8125 (was that it? the dopod 838) I remember running some tools to unlock the CID but I'm not sure what to do now on the Atom life. I did some searching and reading and see some things about extracting eboot file but I really can't find any.
Can anyone point me in the right directions? Just want to restore this to O2's WM6 and sell this to my friend.
Thank you!

Upgrading help (I've checked the forums)

I did search the forums, but couldn't find an answer to most of the following:
I currently own an Atom Exec and am hoping to try some ROM upgrading for the first time. I'm not sure which ROMs I can use to upgrade. I've read the wiki a few times on ROM upgrading, doesn't seem to be that comprehensive. (Probably cos I'm really new to this!)
1. Is there any difference between ROMs for Atom and ROMs for Atom Exec? Can I use ROMs for Atom on my Atom Exec?
Based on what I've read on the wiki. There are 2 main ways to flash a new ROM. (a) by using DSUU through PC, (b) by using mini SD card.
2. DSUU is a programme I need to download an install on my PC?
I've did some reading up on HardSPL and all.
3. How is HardSPL involving in the flashing the ROM on my Atom Exec? I haven't seen anything about HardSPL in the Atom wiki. Seems like it's 2 different things?
My Atom Exec is an old phone, so I thought I'll try around flashing ROMs on it to learn more about ROM upgrading. So that when the HardSPL for Iolite becomes available, I might have the courage to try it! Haha.
But it seems ROM upgrading on Atom and on HTC T-series seems pretty different. Not sure if this experience will help me at all!
Thanks!
Ok, I think I've found the answer to my own question 2.
According to the wiki, it can be downloaded from the O2 website. However, I've browsed the website and don't seem to be able to find the program.
