I have been flashing with dcd rom 3.2.6 and everything has been fine.....until now. I have been trying to add some themes and dialers and somewhere along the line i have erased a file to enable me to create a new text message. its really weird. i know its a problem with a file in my kitchen because when i flash his 3.2.6 clean rom minus the kitchen everything is fine. anybody have any ideas of what i messed up and deleted?

hi all need urgent advice as ive killed my hd2
i was fearful of upgrading to new rom from htc website (v-1.66...)
was using 1.48.405.2 (71294) wwe
I made sure i researched everything 1st. i downloaded trial of spb backup. installed to phone. did full backup, saved to sd card. closed all progs, phone & pc
opened rom update and followed instructions. update then finished, went through setup on phone.
all seemed fine. basic clock, time settings (few new features etc)
I then went to file explorer/storage card and opened spb backup file. clicked next throughout. device reset on its own and loaded with new rom number on startup.
Problem!!!!
have my background image up pictures seem to be back, as are messages. cab files ive installed are present but I cant access contacts and a few other features.
repeated messages are 'a problem has occured with cprog.exe' please tell microsoft blah blah!!!
Htc sense will not launch despite how hard i hit the screen.
Ive no signal at all and cant sync with my pc. i guess suggestions of a hard reset will follow this post but will i not be in the same boat as i will need to restore my settings etc from sd card and spb backup.
please help!!!
try to flash the rom again or try to use your old one.

ok. will try
shouldprob mention that i got a strange message when trying to restore
'this device is different from one which this backup was made. please choose upgrade mode'
then a dropdown menu with
'normal mode'
'rom upgrade mode'
'device upgrade mode'
with a check box 'overwrite existing files' (this is checked)
seems strange but the message before states that the backup was created on an t-mob leo device.
something wrong here maybe???
yeah could be.
sorry mate, i'm not very knowledged about spb backup

sp backup has a "rom upgrade" option i'm guessing you usedthat? in which case that's the problem, because it really means upgrade of the same rom, whereas you have a totally new rom, so should use the individual settingsoption, and reinstall your programs manually.
(based on reading, i've never done it myself, nor used sp backup)
re flash your original rom, restore your backup and think again how and what you are backing up.
just tried a 'normal restore' as the description says restore to original device backup was made on.
phone has now turned on with everything the same as i left it but looking at the software description its gone back to the original rom 1.48.405.2
do i have to run the update again?
what the hell is going on with this phone!!!
no, the rom is the new rom, but thats a fine example of whats wrong.
It has restored the rom version info from your registry backup.
The rom version is not a problem, of course, it just says teh wwrong thing, but there are likely to be loads of reg settings that ARE a problem.
Basically, using backup software can be a pain, till you know its pitfalls. Thats why i dont bother. Contacts/calendar via outlook, and thats it. Everything else i setup manually myself. (Well, i dont cos by now i've made cabs for all my tweaks and what not, but tyou get the idea.)
This is one of the main reasons I don't backup Settings and Programs. I only back up my PIM, and sometimes even that plays up.
You are better off just syncing your phone with Outlook, hardreset, sync again to get your PIM information, and reinstalling your programs one by one.
I can tell you this I use SPB backup all the time, but ...
1.) Normal restore is only for restoring to the EXACT same ROM that you had on before ..
2.) ROM upgrade mode is only good for ROMs in the same series*
*ROM upgrade mode only works correctly on "upgraded" version of the same ROM you had on it , for example, in my case I use Energy ROM CHT 23569 JUL 1st, I make a backup, then upgrade to Energy ROM CHT 23569 JUL 16th, then ROM upgrade mode should work, but if you go say from a Stock TMO rom to a custom rom or a 21xxx series rom to a 23xxx series rom you will have "ISSUES".
If you plan on flashing ROMs often , you either need to learn to use something like XDA_UC, Sashimi, or Toms Autoinstall, and make frequent PIM backups ..
As well as keeping all your program cabs in a safe organized place so you can put them back on ...
I hope this helps you get it sorted ....
Not sure how this happened, but missing two files in my system - long names but they include:
providers.talk
apps.gtalkservice
Just noticed the problem after installing Axura 204 yesterday, my first custom rom. Prior, I was OCLF and root, did the ext, etc stuff with oclf..
In TB, they show up as backed up and un-unstalled, if that makes any sense. There is no option to restore the files in TB. Is it possible that the rom itself delivered with the files botched? Any way to get them replaced?
As has been mentioned many before, I can't download from market and can't log into gtalk. I've already tried the oft mentioned tricks, n nothing works. In my case the 2 files are missing.
That is odd they are missing... everything running okay? You might want to flash again or check the md5 sum (probably not the case).
OR, you could just extract the zip on your pc and grab those .apk files and drop them in system/app and reboot.
Excellent thinking. I'll have a look tonite. Wonder if this happened during batch restore app's w TB? Otherwise, totally stoked with the flash!
I always choose to re-load via Odin then install the custom ROM. Axura's have never been a challenge for me.
Guys, I'm prob going to reflash the rom and then do a careful restore app's - one at a time. Anything I need to be be cautious about? I'm not into Odin yet, and haven't connected to computer yet. Would prefer not to.
Hehe, my first custom rom and now my first re-flash..
Continuing on, and hope someone is still with me on this. Couldn't figure out how to reflash Axura with Rom Manager, so then connected to comp and copied Axura 204 Zip to comp and extracted files. A full search of these files showed only one result for "talk" :
Talk.apk
A search of my phone's sys shows 3 files - the ones I mentioned initially above and:
Android.talk
Please note that these are tar.gz files within my original, pre 2.2 TB backup. Expanding these out shows mostly just empty folders, no .apk files..
Is it likely that a 2.2 build only requires the (talk.apk) to log into Gtalk and use the Market? After all, it's the only talk file present in my axura 204 zip which was acquired thru the official site. Can someone with working Axura 204 and Market search their phone for files including "talk". Mine only includes Talk.apk
so ive had my vibrant for a couple months now coming from an hd2. ive been flashing roms and trying different stuff out, im good with odin and cwm, clueless with adb. with windows mobile the custom build just came how they were and theres no way to remove/add programs and stuff previous to flashing it(with my knowledge). well i just now realized i can access all the files in an android build because its a simple zip file. My question is, how safe is it to remove the apk's from the /system/app folder and then flashing it. Same thing with fonts and notifications. i want to strip all the stuff out that i dont use before flashing so i dont have to do it afterwards. Is there more to this than im making of it?
tl;dr - can i delete files out of a build (apks, notifiations, wallpapers) before flashing it through cwm??
You sure can. I do it all the time. Just make a copy of the untouched version (in case you pull something important or goof up).
"if you amplify everything, nothing is heard"
wow thats gonna save alot of time.
follow up questions: is there any way to have settings preset before i install a rom?
ive tried the built in google back/restore settings but it seems the only thing it does is the browser settings. all system settings i have to reset.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to either help me or point me in the right direction.
I stupidly deleted the stock mms app. Never used it so I figured it would be alright. Nope. It was only when I noticed that I was unable to send mms messages and I was getting double txt messages in GoSMSPro that I knew I had an issue. I've since learned I shouldn't have deleted stock. Whoops. I've tried reading, tried reflashing roms, reinstalling another stock MMS app. None seems to eliminate my issue. When I reflashed Bionix the problem goes away but after restoring my data the stock mms is still gone and problem is back. I'm under the impression to restore all I need I need to restore data from my latest backup after flashing, and I can't quite seem to find the right stock mms app or I'm either not installing it correctly. I've had my Vibrant for about 4 months, so I'm no expert at this point, and why I'm asking for help. Anyone?
Have you tried finding the stock mms.apk file?
EDIT: I got it, pm me if you want it
Yes, I just downloaded what I thought was the stock mms.apk (stock-jpy-mms.zip) and flashed it. It seemed to install correctly, but when I got a txt its showing up there double and in GoSMSPro double as well. It's not the same green messaging icon as the stock I remember so I'm thinking it might not be the right one? I'm at a loss here. Any ideas?
any luck with the apk?
You need to put the stock mms.apk in the system/app folder and in go sms in the settings under important tips make sure the box for stock sms unistalled is not checked

Put mms.apk onto my external SD. Moved it to system/app but it wont install. Rebooted...doesn't show. It's in the folder but won't work. What the hell is going on? Tried APK Manager but it doesn't even show up there. Thanks for the help so far...looks like I need more.
You might have done it already and it might not matter but did you change the permissions when you moved it to system/app?
I downloaded matted blue theme earlier today and installed. I didn't like it. So after that I downloaded and installed the steel blue theme which I don't even know if that one is working right because the icons aren't different. Anyways I downloaded and installed the theme and didn't uninstall the matted blue theme because I wasn't sure how to.....now my Gmail wont load it keeps force closing and for some reason there is 2 text message apps that neither can't be uninstalled and I am getting double the texts at once....does anyone have any ideas to help please. I tried going into the removable drive via USB to computer and just deleting the folder that in boot menu I tried to update.zip and it said it was looking for drive e: and couldn't find anything....I am lost and fairly annoyed please help.

Why dont you reflash a SBF?
Use the un-theme CWM (found in the apps theme forum) zip. Or the deodexed CWM zip (found in the Dev forum). Some themes, such as MattedBlues, include themed apps, which won't be overwritten if the new theme doesn't include them. A tip to theme users: always check whats included inside the zip and backup your files. I personally did a complete backup after deodexing and before installing any themes so I'll never have to reflash an sbf.
I hate to say this but I don't know how to do that
Did a back up earlier today and am running it now well see what happens
im running back up now, can I ask you how to do that?
I hate to say this but even if you can swim you should first test the water.
I assume you know how to use the CWM zips since you've already flashed themes. I also assume you are deodexed since those themes applied correctly.
The deodex zip is the same as GladiAtrix or GingerBlur only minus the themes, they both convert an odex system to a deodex system.
Flashing the deodexed CWM will return you to a "fresh" system. The un-theme CWM is the same thing but it only resores the files themers go after. I would first try the un-theme CWM as the full deodex CWM may cause a few easily recoverable issues, such as unroot.
So my suggestion is flash this CWM first to return you to "stock". Then flash the theme of your choosing.
Good luck.
Hey thank you so much I did a restore, for a lil bit there I wasn't able to get into the boot loader. I appreciate it alot though I prolly will use that theme unloader quite a bit
ouch dude this was A VERY EASY FIX... all you had to do was go to manage apps click on gmail and clear data that fixes gmail. then just use titanium backup and uninstall one of the messaging apps(i specifically uninstalled "messaging 2.2.1")...
P.S. Nottach maybe you can add this bit of info in your post for the theme
Thnx a lot that was a huge help. I just got done backing everything up with TB....that really is a awesome app. And for the thread post idea thank you twice sir. May I ask what u replaced your messaging app. With ? And you didn't cause any instability in ur system hy deleting that message 2.2.1.? Since I'm guessing you removed the one that came with the rom. Thnx again.
Deders *****es!!!!!!!
I've had no preblems or instability issues since you're still left with a messaging app
Oh, well since I did a restore on my phone I have only the one message app. 2.2.1. Crazy stuff for real
Deders *****es!!!!!!!
So to clarify, the un theme cwm will work with the 2.1.1 ?
