Hi all,
took out my SD card to write music files on it. Worked before in my Athena and then in my PC. After reintslling card to Athena it won't be recognized any more.
Tried reboot, checked power in advanced config.
What can I do else ?
Dieter
Probably buy a new card! That has happened to me (more than once).
Try re-seating it a few times making sure it is going in the right way.
The fragile nature of these cards is one of the good things about having the disk drive built in.

I just bought a Kingston 2 GB miniSD. It was dead cheap (paid about $35, which is a good price here in Russia. Most others are double in price). I doubt it is a fake, because I bought it in a known tech-chain (Polaris).
After using the card for 2-3 days (it worked fine), I started getting problems with the card and the QTEK. When I accessed the card I could see the directory structure, but the directory names were all kinds of special characters, but not latin (my device is in ENG) anymore. After a while Windows (WM5) asked me to reformat the card. I thought its a good idea, but after this I can't use the card at all anymore. Its not recognized by the Wizard. I can see it in my cardreader on Vista, but when I try to copy some files on it, it gets super slow and eventually the copy process gets stuck. Trying to format the card via windows doesn't work either. Tried the repair function (which seems to go through) of chkdisk, but the card is still behaving bad.
I have been reading a few forums, tried other programs for formatting, but no solution. Any ideas? Its not about the money (I could also return the card to the store), but I just hate to become the slave of the machines and waste a brand new 2 GB card like this.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Did you try a non-Vista machine? Also, there are more threads in the other forum re:SD cards you might want to check out.

Hi - can anyone help? I've got a 1GB storage card that somehow came out of my K jam whilst it was in my pocket. Now it's not recognised by the device, so all the programmes on it (Sound Explorer,Tube,Metronome Web IS Tool box etc plus all my playlists are u/a). Trouble is I'm away at the minute so don't have the adapter to reformat the Mini SD in my laptop - nor do I have ready access to all the software keys. Is there any way I can get this storage card to say hello again? Aaaggh!
Does your SD card just slide right back in or do you have to push it in (kind of like puching a button- only analogy i could think of at the moment). If it slid out while it was in your pocket then the inside might still be pressed down and just sliding the card in wont be enough to let it see the card again. Slide the card in and push it down so that the card pops back out and then put it back in again and see if it reads.
Thanks for replying - no the card never came completely out when in my pocket - it just half emerged - it must have caught on something. I have removed the card, and tried it again - but no joy I'm afraid. I guess it's off to buy another card..... thanks for your help
What is your OS version?
I had the same the other day on a wizard. At the end it worked out the OS was to old and could only recognize 512 ms cards.
After unlock and upgrade to WM5 it recognized all card. Even 2gb

I dont know if I am the only one, but although I love this ROM and I find it perfect for my needs I just cant get around the fact that it destroys my 8GB microSDHC class 6 card by encrypting it. I have formated it endless times with the panasonic formatting tool it becomes usable, I put my files in it, it work for a few hours at best and the the phone hangs. usually using Total Commander, its interesting that it starts slowly, like 1 ever 5 secnds, showing my folders (I guess this is where the encryption begins. And then everything I try to open gives an error 18, data moved or something. Encryption desibled in setting, power administration disables it does that regardless.
After it does that if I soft reset or restart the phone the card will not show up anymore, either in the total comander, or file manager or any program that trys to access the card. After that if i put the sd back in my pc it shows everything just fine except an Encfitlog.menc file or something like that has being created. Its only that file thats all, no extensions have been modified no files moved nothing. And the computer reads and opens everything just fine. Sometimes if I delete the file the phone will read it again mst times it dosnt.
I know many think it can be bad SD card but the fact is that the computer reads it just fine and intrestingly enough so does the phone, for example i can install endless numbers of roms using the sd method. Even with the menc file on it the bootloader reads the card perfectly and flashes the RAPLPH.IMG everytime no erros. To me that means all hardware is working fine.
WHAT CAN IT BE????????????? PLEASE HELP I READ FOR HOURS DIFFERENT THREADS AND NOTHING HELPED. O LOVE THIS ROM BUT I NEED THE SD AS WELL
if anyone has any idea I would be extremely grarful!!!!!!
was the card properly inserted? The card slot is spring loaded. Try removing the card by pushing it in all the way, the card should pops out. That's when you know that you've inserted the card properly. If the card was inserted correctly, the easiest way to find out now is buying or borrowing a different card.
Yes of course, like I stated i can flash roms form the same sd card, it works for a while and then it just goes bananas. It seems to be a fairly common issue I just thought some one else might have figured out what triggers this error. Still no permanet solution.
Have you tried the second suggestion?
O tried the card in other phones and it works which is stait up wierd. Havent gotten around other cards to try yet. but is wierd i doubt its hardware related cause it reads the rom images perfectly to flash them. and doubt its the rom becuase i tried like 6 already ranging from stock 6.1 to heavily tweaked 6.5s yeilding always thesame results. its like they just dont get along. wierd. will look for another sd to try on my fuze and see how that goes
Try a different brand of Card

I too use NRG roms and have flashed them from AS and my SD. I have a Sandisk 8Gb card that I brought when I got my Raph and have never had a problem. I can only strongly recommend that you get another brand of card and check the results. Maybe there is something funky about the way they talk to your brand of SD card.
Check on the HTC site. I think they list compatible memory cards. I have a similar issue with a 16G card I bought. Sometimes it's all there and sometimes it's not...no rhyme or reason to it. I just went back to the 4GB for now haven't had the time or incentive to go further yet.
i guess its just that!!! I mean it is a very cheap card, Generic from Microcenter. But the on and off thing is what confuses me. I would thing it would be a work or no work thing and not a sometimes works some times it dosnt senarrio. An I tried the card on a Kaiser, Titan, and CDMA Raphael and works. And for certain things it works on this Phone as well. I noted one more thing. If the phone never goes to sleep it dosnt corrup the card. But as it goes to sleep when i press the power button it hangs for a second and pufff!!! card gone. But if i plug it to the computer via USB it will recognize that theres a card it just wont show it. And if i plug it in the computer with SD adapter is all there plus the forsaken menc file. But the whole sleeping thing leads me to thing it might be a power management issues of how the OS handles the memory voltage on sleep and resume. Could it be?????????
WIERD!!!! I guess the only OTHER logical explanaition (which dosnt totaly stasify me, THEY JUST DONT UNDESTAND EACH OTHER)
Will try to get a secondary card and post resulsts.
I have been having problems with my sd card dissapearing. If I eject and reinsert the card it comes back. This is happening frequently and has happened on multiple roms including T-Mobile USA Stock rom and an Energy Rom.
I don't know if your know, but when you have your phone connected to your pc, the sd card is unavailable on the phone...
is the sd card defect?
did you test it in another device?
DN41
I am not connected to a pc when it happens. Have people experienced faulty cards that work some of the time? I don't use any other microsd devices frequently enough to see if the card stops working on other devices. If others have experienced faulty cards acting like this I'll try picking up another card.
maybe it helps if you format the sd again?
DN41
Yeah try reformat it..
Not had any problems with my 6month old SanDisk 4GB, i use it every day listening mp3z at work.
Hope you get it sorted
It took me a while to get everything off of it but I've done a full format and reloaded it. So far so good. Card hasn't dissapeared and phone hasn't locked up. I will update the thread if things go south . Thank's for the help It hadn't occured to me that a format would fix the problem.
P.S. for anyone else who has this problem I didn't trust a quick format. It took an hour but I did a full format. You are welcome to go with the quick format if you want to try.
Dont waste time
Do not waste your time...go for a one to one exchange with the HTC customer SErvice if your phone are under warranty.Make a backup by buying another small capacity sd Card..just for safety....cheers
Hi, my M5 continually breaks SD cards! It mostly happens when transferring media to the cards, or downloading things directly to them.
Before the transfer/download finishes, a notification will pop up saying the SD card is damaged, please format etc... the inbuilt format tool will not correct the card and if I reboot the M5, it says the SD card is password locked!
If I transfer the card to my PC, it cannot read it. The drive is greyed out and it says there is no disk in the drive. Disk management says it has no media and is sized at 0 bytes. Any repair utility cannot access it and chkdsk and diskpart in command prompt cannot open it either.
It has happened within a week of using a new card 3 times now, Sandisk/Samsung/Integral, doesn't matter what brand.
It's getting annoying, and expensive to replace them. Can anybody help shed any light on the situation?
this happened with my m5 10.8 lte too. 2 times.
I was able to repartition and format the sd with my pc.
but i think it's a problem with my device, not the sd.
Cant confirm this on my 10.8 WiFi, because most of the time i use my 64gb Sandisk card with an external card reader. But initially, right after purchase, i used a Anker USB-C Cable for direct transfer of files. The Huawei-provided USB-C cable is only used with the power brick. Maybe you should try a different cable? I ran into all sorts of issues regarding USB on any device if i dont use the correct cable. For me: USB != USB.
Where are you buying the SD cards? You'd be surprised how common phony, counterfeit SD cards are.
Return the M5 if you need sdcards...
Hi,
I had 3 sdcards corrupted after copying files on it (USB to computer -> file explorer -> copy to SD). Brands were 1 Transcend, and 2 Sandisks. Two of them were brand new and bought at a mall.
I can't for sure assure you it's the tablet but three SD cards broken in less than a week sounds more than coincidence for me. I looked online and many people report the same issue on Mediapad tablets.
We needed trustworthy SD card support for our operations so I simply returned the tablet and switched back to its main competitor. Never had issues with SD cards before, nor after.
Apart from that the M5 worked like a charm and everyone loved it. I just couldn't risk it a enterprise level.
If you definitely depend on SD card support, my personnal experience is to stay away from Huawei's tablets.
