Lets face it. The new radio sucks horribly. The leaked Rom is very bad as well. Countless problems for almost everyone. Has anyone extracted the gps drivers? I would kill to go back to the 2.17 sprint rom with the gps added on.
Won't work you need the new radio, and rom.
Mine is working without any problems, and the radio is great.

well, the new radio is a BETA after all. and i havent had any problems with it. The new radio is what enables the GPS in the phone, and the 3.16 based roms have the drivers that are needed for gps. so these go hand in hand. you need em both for gps.

No problems for me, works great and couldn't be happier with everyones work on getting the GPS and Rev A to work. I appreciate all the work that people are putting in to get all this going. I guess you'll just have to wait until your carrier releases their updated ROM with GPS enabled, maybe that will be less problematic for you.
I am betting when this is released there will be a newer radio, this is a beta and the radio is at least a couple of months old, I am sure they have done some tweaking since then, at least if they are seeing the same issues one would hope they have tweaked a bit more here and there.
Same goes for the rom piece of it it is an old beta as well they are both 2 months old, so whatever Sprint and/or HTC has been doing for the past 2 months is unknown.
You Sprint folks should all be happy to me it seems Sprint is the only provider that gives half a rats ass. On Telus the last rom came out back in the beginning of July and none of the other Canadian providers that carry this phone have provided any updates whatsoever.
As Fallingup said this is a beta and the issues we are seeing from the radio patch exhibit normal BETA behavior...
Hell even HTC is convinced the Radio isn't ready for Primetime and keep delaying the release! That says to me they have hit some roadblocks they are having trouble dealing with.
It would not surprise me at all if HTC consciously decided to leak this radio so that the community could take a crack at solving those issues and give them some ideas on how to fix the patch.
I am hoping someone in the community is looking at this beta version of radio and looking for ways to improve that....
Cause I'm betting the second someone can tweak that radio to work well, HTC will take that file and use it as a roadmap for an official release!

Some people have terrrible issues. Some have none at all. I have no problems at all. This is the best set up I have had. I am using the new Radio and Bootloader with a variation of DCD 2.2.0 ROM. Working great. What specific ROM are you using?

the actual results are somewhere in between...the ones with zero issues either don't use data connect extensively or haven't really run everything through it's paces. How could they the ROM is only a day old! LOL
Others just have issues with the 6.1 OS and still others have issues just flashing. The latter is simply user error and that will always be there no way around that. You have to know those issues will show up even if the perfectly stable ROM gets released.
The Radio is IMO definitly not ready for prime time. between the BT issues, Data Connect and the problem of having to prime the GPS before a navigation software like TomTom can use it there will have to be another update to the radio ROM before we can be sure we gain GPS capability without losing anything else...
Right now Radio appears to be a bit of a tradeoff as opposed to a simple feature addition.
Once an official (as opposed to leaked) radio comes out I think all the REAL problems people are having will go away.

As far as I know nobody here on XDA Dev has actually tweaked a Radio. People put together firmware files from other stuff, and bundle them all together, but to actually fix and recompile a radio file goes much deeper than anyone here handles.
I have had only one problem running dcd 2.10 and 2.20. I have run critically low on memory once. This has never happened before.
But as for the radio and OS, I think my call quality is noticably better than with the stock rom or any of dcd's 1.x rom/radio setups that I have tested.
Oh, just FYI, I'm in Utah. I wonder if the radio issues have to do with a difference in radio hardware on the towers in New Jersey.
After reading for several days and hearing the good the bad and the ugly I opted for the straight leaked rom. No unlocking and all that.
Well so far so good. GPS works, RevA not a real difference so far
Fairly stable. Happy with my beta software until the official release

Yup, me too.
As a matter of fact, I'm not going to go to DCD's 2.2.1 until this current flash (on my phone) bombs. 2.2.0 is working great for me.
For those who claim to have no problems...
Try downloading a file larger than 1 MB in PIE or Opera...
The issue has NOTHING to do with DCD's work...
Definitly the Radio...
There only problems I have seen with the 2.2X Roms DCD has put out is some issues with installing programs on the storage card...
But if I know DCD that will be fixed rather quickly.
I have to give DCD all the credit in the world. His work has been awesome and I really love that he is in this forum working hard all the time. However, I had many problems with 3.1.2 and radio 3.39. Slow GPS among a lot of other things. I am a sprint user and I did everything properly with flashing etc. My phone worked great except for the GPS which was extremely slow. I decided to revert back.
I put virtually all of the blame on radio 3.39. I think that it is still in development therefore it is not ready for release. Also I think that the carrier cabs that need to be installed with 3.1.2 are also an issue.
After reverting back to 3.0.4 and radio 3.35 I can say that things are dramatically improved. My GPS locks in seconds everytime. 3.39 took so long that it was useless. I do not have internet issue nor outlook issues with 3.35 either.
So... I suggest that anyone who is having problems with 3.39 go back to 3.35 radio and also back to dcd3.0.4
I highly suggest that you first install the official sprint 3.35 release and make sure you let the customizations run as well for carrier cabs. Then flash 3.0.4. After flashing do a hard reset to make sure all kinks are out. Stick with radio 3.35 and 3.0.4 if you are having issues with 3.39 and 3.1.2.
I hope any of this made sense. If you do not know what 3.39, 3.35, 3.0.4, or 3.1.2 means then dont touch a thing

Dude hold on a sec....before you go scaring everyone away from 3.1.2 and 3.39.10....did you say you were on Sprint and had extremely slow GPS?
Sprint users have NO excuse for not having instant locks with GPS. If you would have read the stickies at the top of this forum you would have found your answer for INSTANT GPS locks. It has nothing to do with what rom/radio you're using and EVERYTHING to do with what PRI version you have.
Personally, I have found absolutely nothing wrong with 3.1.2 and 3.39.10 and have used both for a while (no longer using 3.1.2 due to testing new builds, but STILL using 3.39.10).
A little reading of the important stuff goes a long way...
Not trying to scare anyone at all. I just saw that there were some posts about gps stuff and problems. I am in now way taking anything away from dcd or his kitchens/roms. DCD knows that I am a big fan of his and I have also tested his stuff. I am just trying to help those who are having issues, that is all.
Just the same way that we all have different programs that suit our needs, each of the current DCD Roms and other radio options offers some balance to some, and has drawbacks for others.
Some Roms have more beta feel, which gives some an edge and functionality that they can use. Some can't live with the buggy stuff (or figure out workarounds) so they keep what is familiar. This stuff is fun, lets keep it that way and let people brick their phone if they are talented enough to do it.
I went back to 304 myself because i couldn't get NoData working on 312. sounds like a chump reason but at 12$ a mb its a very important program to me. I kept radio 3.39 and have never had trouble with the GPS. Infact, when I compare the acquisition time of the titan to my Garmin Rhino and previous GPS units I'm still amazed at how fast all of the radio ROMs pick up GPS. Its totally comparable to a dedicated GPS unit. However, I'm on Telus.
All of the roms DCD has produced have been far better than stock, so this is in no way a complaint! Keep up the good work guys.
Ps. Is there a NoData like program that works on 3.12?
i've mentioned this before, but while 3.12 and radio 3.39 seem solid, i have experienced the same things. My GPS takes 5-7 minutes to lock, and when it does, it's normally 1/2-1 mile off. I didn't have these issues when i was with 3.04 and 3.37 (Alltel user here), but no complaints, the rest seems solid, so i've lived with GPS since i upgraded.
Like I said in the other thread...we've been working on a gps fix. Testing it now.
Yea I was going to test the GPS fix for 3.39 but I had to go back because I need the GPS too much.

Ok so here is a quick question for you. I got my new device and whats better to flash on it? DCD or the new VZW release? Let me know and I will do it?
DCD is way ahead of the curb to any software release from any company, with his software it pays in spades what you originally got from the phone out of the box. GPS, PAN, DUN, sting SMS, faster better use of CPU and RAM the list is endless. hands down DCD's ROM is the industry standard.
the added value to the phone is nothing short of outstanding.
no question. dcd.
There is absolutely no way you can dobetter than DCD's Roms.

Oh boy, don't get me started. Read my rants in the thread I started about the official release. The only think worse you could do to your phone other than putting the VZW release on it is running it over with your car after pulling it out of the back of a dump truck thats filled with molten lava, uranium, and fast flying neutrino radiation. I would rather try conjuring the spirits of my dead grand mother in hopes that she could build a better ROM than this crappy, late to the game, outdated months before it came out, non supported, lacking GPS , bullsh*t ass VZW ROM.
I guess what I am trying to say is I would go with DCD's ROM ;c)
DISCLAIMER: Before anyone gets offended, this is solely my opinion (granted taken to an extreme!). Thank you for taking the time to view.
what i think is sad is all the people who won't flash anything but stock have suffered through all these months with 2.09 only to be rewarded with a crippled 6.1 with useless gps.
at least now you can unlock and flash to dcd knowing that you can revert to stock without bricking since you now have a stock gps rom. that is going to be the only thing this rom is good for.

Why do people continue to insist that the phone GPS is all that and a side of fries?
Has it ever occurred to you that some people dont give a rat's behind about GPS functionality on their phone? Guess what, I dont - I have a dedicated autonomous GPS which blows the crap out of anything you will get on your 6800's "gps" function.
Its not all about GPS you know - imagine that? There is a universe where things other than GPS is important
I've also tried a few of dcd's roms - great stuff - no doubt about it. But for the apps I run, the stock ROM seems to be better - blows your mind, I know.

I have a number of dedicated business and medical applications that run better with the stock rom than a few custom roms I've tried. For what/how I use my 6800 for, stock edges out custom roms.
If you use your 6800 like a toy, than its possible that a dcd or similar rom offers benefits. But for my purposes, the custom roms werent cutting.

Sorry, but those applications are just that - applications. They arent the same thing as what you can get on a dedicated unit. They are nothing more than maps - just like mapquest
But if you want something that a dedicated GPS unit can do that the 6800 cant with GPS enabled I'll tell you....
Real-Time traffic
And no, you dont have true real-time traffic on the 6800 since it isnt capable of accepting FM RDS signals
Listen, there is no sense arguing about it further - if you are happy with the GPS on the 6800 then isnt that what matters? I was not, hence, the reason I dont care about the whole GPS/custom rom thing. Enabling GPS on the 6800 was such a low priority for me since I didnt need it.
If you are happy with it and it serves your needs, then great.

Well, I asked. I have never ran one of those programs so I have no idea how they compare to stock/DCD roms.

I usually refrain from posting, but err wha? This confusingly senseless posts seems to have dragged me out of my cave...
Is FM not only used as a very low cost alternative to using Cell Phone Data Networks? It is the same network built out by MS to support their MSN Direct Watches that they are now leasing to services like Garmin for GPS Traffic... Since the tech you mentioned is simply there to give the "real" GPS device access to data, how is it any "better"?
Do they release updates to their non-PDA GPS setups faster? Otherwise, it should be the same (provided the cell phone has data coverage)...
Unless Garmin doesn't provide real time traffic at all on their PDA stuff?
I too am curious on the apps though... As DCD 3.2.6 is the fastest ROM I've ever touched on my Mogul (not saying much since I've only owned it 1.5 months and have only ran Stock + Stock latest + DCD 3.2.5 and 3.2.6). It runs everything faster and just "better".
I don't use my PDA as a "toy" so I'd recommend you not lump anyone who doesn't do exactly what you do into the kid with a toy category.
Depending on your applications needs you might be better off using the kitchen for DCD roms to be sure the stuff you need is included.
I had to add the Enterprise option to my ROM so it would sync with my exchange server (as my phone has to be able to enforce my corporate exchange policies).

EXACTLY! Thats what I've been saying all along - depending on your needs, the stock rom will be fine or you may need to go with a custom rom
Now we are back on topic
My TomTom software pulls real-time traffic. Live Search can even pull the traffic in real time..provided you have a data connection.
That is the real difference, not that it cannot get the traffic but the method it does and if it costs anything. I got the unlimited data so it is a non-issue to me, but with a limited data plan a dedicated GPS will win out based on that function alone.

What medical app runs better on a stock ROM than on a dcd ROM? Please name any specific app? Lexi-...? PocketMed? Harrison's? Even Epocrates?
If you're going to make this claim publicly, back it up with ANY specific app you've used which runs better on stock in your opinion so others can weigh in or test your claims. That's only fair when you're slandering dcd ROM's as better for "play" than "work." If you have "a number of..... apps that run better with the stock rom" surely you can name at least one, but I notice you don't.
I say, put up or shut up.

Then why waste your time posting here then? If stock if great for you then why waste your time on a forum for making custom ROMs? I think the GPS in the Titan is just as good as any hand held. TomTom, Live Search, Google Maps and others all can receive realtime traffic through the standard data network. Also TomTom devices are Windows CE embedded devices and use bluetooth connection to a data phone for the real time traffic and other services. So for me having one unit that I can carry to do GPS, email (work and personal), Geocaching, Bible, and internet search is invaluable. Since VZW seems to want to charge for using the GPS then we have DCD. If you don't care about the internal GPS then be happy with the stock ROMs. Better or faster is a matter of opinion that is true, but if I don't have to deal with all the bloatware that comes with the stock ROM the less that will take up precious memory. For me DCD/GC has made my phone a tool that enables me to work outside of my office, it is definitely not a toy.

I've read every page of this thread prior to posting. I read far more than I post by a long shot. I rarely post without listening (reading) first.
I posted because FM RDS is simply a data connection. Nothing more, Nothing less. With that in mind it would mean as long as the 6800 has a data connection it should show the same exact traffic information as a standalone "real" GPS device, unless either real-time traffic isn't a provided feature or the traffic provider prioritizes one device class over another.

I wasn't slamming you as being inaccurate in your usage findings. There are far too many variations of this device to be absolutely certain they don't have more than just cosmetic differences. I was just adding to the thread collective my experience of DCD being a LOT faster than stock. As I also pointed out, my experience with the Mogul doesn't run that long. I just recently moved to it from my HTC Wizard.
Although it does help if you cite specifics. Such as "App XYZ runs faster" or whatnot so someone else using it can chime in and agree or what not. Unless you wrote the app for yourself you can't assume none of us run it
Ok so anything I need to know? Besides backing up contacts/calendar, do I have to call Verizon or was this only for custom roms? Anything else before I go it would be helpful. Any mistakes or tricks you found out while updating too. Thanks. I am really scared (even with this offical rom).
edit: I MIGHT update. Still having doubts.
1) Install Update
2) Dial *228 select option 2
That was it. Just finished restoring my backup and installing my favorite apps seems to work just fine

I don't use GPS, I prefer other devices, and I don't use it for data, the only things I care about are if it makes calls and if the WiFi and bluetooth work correctly. Not everyone has the same priority for a phone.

What are you talking about? RevA was working perfectly for me with the MR1 update - I was getting speeds right where I should have been getting them.
And like the person above stated, not everyone's priority is on gps
I cannot do a full back up with Active Sync anymore? I guess the older versions allow me to do it.
I am just picking the official rom since there is less steps and less margin of error. But really I haven't decided on what to do just yet. I do have my own seperate Garmin nuvi I use.
Can you see what speeds your getting with Rev. A? Also why didn't you have to call Verizon. Is it not a complete wipeout like a hard reset? Thanks in advance!

When I upgraded from stock rom to the mr1 update, it did not wipe out the a-key or dmu settings, nor should it.
As for RevA speeds - I was consistently getting between 600-800kbps

I updated and I don't regret it one bit...I actually like the VZnavigator, I had it on my LGvx9800 "the V" and it saved me from being lost so many times that when I bought my 700w I missed it so bad I almost went back to the V...
I got google maps on the Treo but I had no GPS at the time, then I got my 6800 and flashed to DCD's latest and greatest and I loved it except it sometimes took 5 to 10 mins for Live search or Google maps to locate me and neither of them had turn by turn voice prompts...and by the time they located me I was so lost i had to get directions from some nearby address to where I was going without GPS....VZ Navigator connects in less then 10 seconds at my house and even at the Airport where I work...!!! I don't mind paying for things that I like...
I guess I am happy with my Rev-0 speeds.
Just tested it I got 1.17 Mbps (1198.4 kbps). Since I do not use my phone with a laptop I guess Rev-A wouldn't be needed as much.
I appreciate everyone for posting here. Thanks! Still its good to know I don't have to call Verizon like whne I had to do a hardrest. I will still wait on upgrading. Reading more experiences from people. But the need to upgrade is definetly diminishing somewhat with time. lol

What is exactly safer in a method that doesn't work?
Please be a little more informed before you post stuff that's false.
I noticed that myself and a few other people are having problems getting a quick lock (or at all) over the past few days. It took me a few minutes today to get a lock and I am wondering if anyone (GC you still out there?) can test if the aGPS server was changed or if there is a reason this is different. I went through and nothing has changed for me.
I am willing to reflash to test but wanted to see if anyone on verizon could verify problems or an IP change for the server.
I noticed the same thing today..Took a long time.
I had problems too yesterday. Later towards the day I got it real fast again. Today still fast. Glad to see I wasn't the only one.
What is the current IP for the QPST method fix?
I tried the tutorial by GC14 for the first time, today, and I couldnt get a lock at all
Was is the same issue you guys had? Or did I do something wrong.
I have now tried this with a DCD rom/radio and the MR1 rom/radio, both gets no fix at all, and I tried it outdoors in open area away from buildings.
Whats the deal? (and what's the current IP please)
Thanks
I noticed it yesterday (3/4) but I just saw this thread and figured I would try it again. Got a lock in 3secs.
As of yesterday I can no longer get GPS locks at all. No matter what the application they sit there waiting for the GPS forever. Before yesterday it would work flawlessly and under 5-10 second locks. now .. nothing.
Anyone else still having trouble?
Also, does anyone have a link to any updated configuration requirements, such as the newest IP, etc? I can't find the instructions page on the wiki.
Thanks!
Soft-reset your phone.
No problems here, usually in under 10 sec

That is always the first thing I do after checking settings for any problem. I have been around for a while and try not to start threads unless I believe that it may be a situation that is not just me floundering around. I saw some other people complaining here and on PPC geeks about how it seemed that aGPS wasn't helping to lock, and it was confirmed by a few, for whatever reason.
I think it may have been a regional problem, or something to do with the towers that was isolated to the past couple of days. Today this evening it was back to normal.
Things have changed a bit after VZW picked up Alltell towers. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but VZW was previously paying Sprint or other providers to use their towers and then picked up Alltell towers that had some of the same coverage, VZW discontinued paying Sprint to borrow the signal for that area even if the Alltell signal is weaker.
I have driven an hour to work for seven years and days after the acquisition there are new dead spots in places that always had great reception, now it drops like clockwork in the same exact spot. It may be that the technology for those towers are being upgraded and they are working out some of the bugs, but what do I know.
HELP - No satellites, no lock, nothing!
ARGG! Someone please help. Here is the deal...
I have a Verizon Titan, and was running DCD 3.2.6 with 3.42.50 Radio. I decided I wanted to try the MR1 Verizon stock rom, so I upgraded to it and it's included radio. Then I did GC14's QPST tutorial for Verizon on his wiki page. It found satellites in TomTom, but would NEVER get a lock. I didn't like it, and the ROM was kinda slow anyway, so I flashed back to the previous DCD 3.2.6/radio setup.
I now do not even get an attempt at connecting. When I run TomTom is just searches for satellites for ever, but never even finds one. So I am not even finding the satellites, much less locking on. What happened? Before I did any of this I would gte a lock in about a minute or two. Now I cannot even find satellites!
HELP
Hmm, I misread your first post, I swore I saw you say you had Qwest, oh well.
Anyways, install an older Verizon rom that was pre-gps and then go thru the normal steps to unlock, and update the phone. Never install MR1 or MR2 again unless you want to have to do this all over again.
MR1 and MR2 both disable GPS via a PRI update that prevents any non authorized app from accessing GPS, tho there is a tool you can add that will allow some gps apps to work, but it only works if you leave MR1 installed, if you downgrade back to 3.2.6 without following my instructions above, then it won't work, period.

Quest? hmm, no not me, been Verizon for the past 5 years.
Anyway, I relocked and downgraded to the 2.09 stock verizon ROM and old SPL. Now, I upgraded to the 3.42.50 radio and 3.2.6 DCD ROM. I discovered that there is a new TomTom version out, so I am currently aquiring that with new maps and all, but is there a program I can use NOW just to see if I get a fast GPS fix? one that doesnt have maps or anything, just a satellite status application basically?
-thanks, crobs808
I remembered I could use GPS Tuner, so nevermind on the request. I will post what happens after I figure out the new TomTom 7.915
Holy Flippin Cow!

GPS issues are resolved for me too, and the new Tomtom is faster.
