Is anyone using iGuidance with any success. When I use it, I get GPS lock no problem. But while driving, it will not keep up with me. I need to slow WAY down or stop to update my position on the map.
I do not have any problems like this with Google Maps. I'll try Live and maybe TomTom this week sometime.
You have to use GPSGate with iGuidance.
There is an issue with iGuidance. You either have to use GPSGate, use another GPS program or wait for the next version to come out that will hopefully fix the problem, but it has been forever waiting for this stupid update.
Thanks. Is GPSGate a free client?

It's not free, you are supposed to pay for it.
+1 on everything said. I used iGuidance for a while and if you don't have another app that "primes" the GPS, you don't get positional updates. After running GPSGate it worked fine with updating on the map. I had other issues with iGuidance that eventually made me drop them. After a lot of testings and searching I've found that TomTom works the best for me.
The three that I spent the most time with are iGo, iGuidance, and TomTom.
iGo is an very nicely done application that looks fantastic and works great... expect for the fact that it's a HUGE memory hog... so much so that on the memory limited Titan I was locking up and losing the ability for the phone to work to make and receive calls. Not good.
iGuidance is MUCH easier on the memory. It doesn't look nearly as nice as iGo, but I can live with that if that's the only problem. However, I also had problems with iGuidance moving from Portrait to Landscape and back. The screen would get out of position regularly and become unusable. Plus I wasn't happy with the small size of the buttons. Makes it REALLY hard to use when in the car.
TomTom uses a bit more memory than iGuidance, but not nearly as much as iGo. It doesn't look quite as nice as iGo in my opinion, but much nicer than iGuidance. The buttons are large and easy to use. I have found that a few times when trying to navigate to businesses via POI that it is sometimes a few stores/building off, but close enough to be able to see the sign from here I am. Navigating via address has always been dead on.
I forget what the application is... there is a free gps primer out there.... I just wiped my phone and going to tinker with roms today.. hopefully.. so I dont have access to what I was using.. but yes you need an application like gpsgate (think trial as when I used it then you have to pay for it) but someone posted a freebie... Ill see if I can find it...
I use iguidance.... and love it... iguidance 4 is soo much better than 3... however it seems everyone rants and raves about tomtom.... maybe ill have to look at that.... I use my gps when we are going on trips and stuff.. even when work sends me out.. maybe I can get them to pay for it!!!!!
iGuidance does full TTS. Does TomTom? iGuidance 2009 will be releaed in a couple of weeks.

GoogleMap has incorporated a very useful feature so that you can know where you are even if there is no GPS reception. To do this, you need to download the newest version of googlemap, available from here

Yet I suppose the reason for this new feature is for those moment when there is no GPS signal. Dense trees... Tall building...
I have many othe GPS software too. I normally use iGO my way and Tom Tom. But it doesn't mean I don't use google maps. It's one more nice toy.
Hello All,
I would like to know whether anyone has tried the new Iguidance 2009 for PPC. If so, please share the experience and I'd like to know whether it works without using GPSGATE like Iguidance V4.0
I've never used it, but have used many of the solutions out there. By far the best I have found is iGO8 with the US maps. Absolutely incredible interface, fantastic graphics and sound, amazing. From the looks of the Iguidance 2009 screenshots, iGO8 blows it away as well.
I Dont Think Its Out Yet.
If it is let me know. I heard October 8 2008.
Thanks

Iguidance isnt out yet, but it seems they are fixing the PPC GPS issue with us. It is also the only one i know that does TTS, so for me its the winner. And how do u get US maps with iGo8? might try but without TTS, always feels like im missing something

igo8 does have TTS support, but for the mogul, not enough ram to use it, however using Oncourse with TTS works fine for me. (Oncourse uses the same core as igo8 but rebranded)
There are definitely US maps for iGO8.
Actually the US maps are for MioMap software, they just happen to be easily changed to work with Igo since they use the same file structure.
Igo (as far as I know) has never released maps of North America, tho they do OEM their software to other vendors who may have NA maps available.

Great Software, BUT...

I really like the iGudance software. This worked great with my NATF 4.1 Fuze. HOWERVER, they ship this on a 4gb microSD, AND they do not allow you to copy the software to your own SD card. Well, you can copy it, but it won't run. In my case I wanted to copy it to my 16gb card. Their copy protection won't let it run that way.
SO, ONLY buy it if you are either willing to use their SD card or you are willing to swap cards every time you want to run GPS. I'm not.
i just got iguidance 2009 and it works pretty good. I have tried lot of gps softwares on my tmobile wing but none of them really worked. I think it's cause all of the gps softwares were for wm 5 or 6 and not for 6.1. But this one is for 6.1 too. I can't really compare it to other softwares but to what I have experienced it works pretty well. The poi missing few destinations but again I can't compare that to other softwares.

Wrong. You can easily run the maps from any SD card. Trust me.
iGo8 is a waste. No TTS is basically worthless. iGuidance 2009 works really well. I'm still using it with the astrolauncher mortscript and gpsgate, but I'll try it without tomorrow.
ok this stuff gets expensive trying all the different ones to find the one you like....soooo.. lets start here..
Mapopolis - not great on graphics - no TTS and was cheap
iGuidance 3 - was awesome and i liked it alot but no tts and got it with my gps bundle so forget the price
iguidance 4 - was at a truck meet and a guy had it.. got to check it out and it was cool... tts and all... was going to buy it but then looked into tomtom
tomtom - ok so it is really nice... expecially the gui but it still lacks something
iGuidance 2009 - funny i found this thread as I was talking to a guy at work since I just started there... and he knew one of the guys there that is into this stuff too... so he has it installed... I got to check it out and he has it running on a mogul!!!!! on sprint stock rom (I told him bout the roms here so he should be dropping by )
now in addition to all that up there i have also tried trial versions of software like
GPS Speed SEntry
GPS Gate
GPS Meter
GPS Skinner
Beeline GPS
VisualGPSce
I have teste EVERY one of them in this quest of trying to figure out what is the best and what to use...
ALL have worked on my mogul (on the bottom list as trials are available) and top where I have bought or had the oppertunity to check them out....
so I feel that I will be upping for an upgrade to iGuidance 2009 as I see some changes...hopefully for the better.. im gonna ask the guy if I can borrow his phone during the day (hah borrow a phone... if it was stand alone gps maybe easier to do).... but his Mogul connected with just the sprint rom and radio (dont even know what versions) in less than 10 seconds!!!!!!!
I like some features of TomTom yet some of iGuidance... so hopefully iGuidance grabbed those features...
features I like of tomtom
online update to POI (dunkin donuts YEAH BABY!!!)
look and feel - doesnt feel like a phone
ease of use
features I like of previous iGuidance which I know they must have not got rid of
click on screen while navigating and it shows you the current location... do that on tomtom and it does nothing
look and feel - always been on par with stand alone gps but not to tomtom standards though...
ease of use - I have always found it easy to use and connect quickly....
well that is it for me for now.. time to hunt down the cheapest place to buy the software!!!!!!
Tomtom locks slightly faster on my mogul, and is a bit more "pickup and play" friendly.. but iguidance '09 has it beat in everyother area.. especially mem usage(tomtom gives out of mem errors too often for me)
Well I am searching for the best PPC iNav as well .. so far I like TomTom,
I currently have TomTom v6, iGuidance v4 and I ordered iGuidance 2009 last
week .. should have it tomorrow or Friday .. so I'll report on iGuidance 2009 ..
The only issue with TomTom v6 is no TTS .. other than that .. I never get loss
and never have any memory issues running it .. hell its been the only stable
Nav software on my phone .. over all others!!! "so far anyways"..
major issues I have with iGuidance v4 is that, it does not show live position!!
and you have to keep tapping the screen to get your current location ..
I even got loss using iGuidance v4 as I drive the phone would idea and the
software also seems to idle and have a major lag in updating the location
that cause me to miss my tunes a few times .. end up had to Run TomTom to
save my a$$ and get me where I needed to go.. iGuidance v4 seems like its
best for ppl walking lmao.. lol
Well I'll have iGuidance 2009 tomorrow or Friday so I "hope" it will be 1000x
better than iGuidance v4 cause the only good thing I found about iGuidance
v4 was its TTS and the fact it seems to work in stand-along mode..

It probably doesn't matter anymore since you bought iGuidance 2009, but the fix for v4 is to run GPSgate in the background. iGuidance v4 will then update your current position automatically and work just like a standalone device. There was a problem with the gps driver that is built into the v4 interfacing with winmo. GPSgate outputs the GPS info on a different port, you just point iGuidance to look at the new port. Check the big GPS fact thread either here or on PPCGeeks and there are some awesome scripts to start up GPSgate when you start iGuidance. Works great for me. Big props to the people that did the work in that thread.

Either there's something wrong with your IG install, or you're not using it correctly. I've used it for years on several devices and never have had to tap the screen to get the current location. With IG, you have to use a program like gpsgate to keep the titans internal gps alive when using IG.
Will I be able to transfer iGuidance 2009 to another MSD card after purchase? I want to transfer it to a class-6 MSD card. If so, is it just a matter of copying from the original and pasting to the new card or is there anything else involved? Also, has anyone got this working in an Xperia X1? Thanks.

Correct. Noobs should search a little before bashing products that they clearly don't understand how to use.
Any answers to my earlier question will be much appreciated.

Read post #10. It can be done.
Just FYI...Ive done the GPS changes so it gets a lock in 5 seconds and iGuidance runs perfect.
My idea is if the gps is working fine on the htc hd2.
Is it possible to cook those files and software in a rom for the raphael.
And then look if the raphael gets a faster gps fix without 3de party software or other tricks.
This is just an idea of my to try it out and watch what happens.
So if you like this idea can you try this out in your new rom ?
Thank you already
Do you think that 10-30 seconds is too long for a GPS fix? That's how fast is GPS fix on my Raph.
If it is 10 -30 sec a would be happy.
I would get nothing or i would wait 1h 30m.
It's very annoying if i have a fix and then it is gone again.
I have used a lot of programs registery tricks or other tweaks roms and radio's but i won't work for me.
I am using the gps for walking in the forest so i can get my way back.
Several times i was lost and needed to find my way back on my own.
And it won't hurt to try this out.
If this works out with the htc hd2 files and programs other cooks can use those files in there roms.
Check your radio number, then install suitable rilphone to it and then use QuickGPS
Currently getting GPS location under 30 seconds consistently by directly starting google maps.
Using:
Latest Energyrom 10/29
Radio 1.14.25.35 with corresponding rilphone.dll
I've never found any benefit to using 3rd party apps except maybe for enjoying the beautiful screen gpstest shows for 5 minutes before it even starts to work.
There are rare times when I can't get a gps lock with google maps when i actually tried gpstest only to realize that it can't get a lock either.
One thing you can try is to simply run quickgps before you use gps...especially if you're in a new area.
Seems like in the woods (geocaching), the GPS really fails to track anything. If you move slower than 1mph, it really doesn't update your location, and you can be walking for a mile. Walk faster and it'll find your location lickety split.
I get a fix in about 15 seconds on the second floor of my house with my Raphael. It just hates tracking when you're walking slow. :/

Interesting... Now I know why my raph gets a fix faster when in a moving car, rather than when I sit at home
And yes, running QuickGPS before Google Maps really helped me a lot...
So that is why i can't get a fix in the woods i need to move fast really fast to get a fix.
So raphael gps is only useable in my car.
But what will happen if whe use the htc hd2 gps drivers on the raphael ?
If this makes the raphael gps better why not trying it out?
I would like to port it to the raphael but i don't have the know how to do it.

Those drivers won't work on your device. The hardware is different. I can't even use Topaz GPS drivers on my device without breaking GPS completely.
Thank you captain for your answer.
So i now know it won't work because of the hardware now i can spend the time on something else.
It's been a while. I miss my GPS and compass working right. Any Ginger roms made improvements to GPS or compass accuracy since last I looked at roms in early summer?
If not, I'm ready to go back to Froyo.
Short answer, yes.
Long answer, search
I searched and read for a half hour. Only thing I see is that GPS works, sorta, if you don't turn it off and compass is still wonky. Nothing new I guess.
stable cm7 with streamline kernel will give you really good gps. first time I was able to use navigation on gb rom. my phone is from original june batch so that saying a lot. compass never really worked on our vibrants.
Yea compas dont work but gps on cm7 with streamline works great ccan be turned off and on at will without adverse effects... its performance however is a bit subpar.. takes a Long time to lock and can sooometimes lose a lock temporarily
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
thank you. Just wondering. I was trying to use google sky the other day and it was completely unusable. At least it worked well when I was on froyo.
I never managed to have an accuracy better than 140 or 150 feets.
http://i.imgur.com/Iky2A.png
That means it's quite hard to use GPS while walking or driving in the city, because it will randomly jump from street to street.
Am I the only one with such poor accuracy?
Search the dev boards and you will find this to be a common problem for the vibrant. There are several fixes for non-working gps, but I don't know that I've ever gotten better than what you posted.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Yep, I did both sofware and hardware fix. That's a shame...
What ROM are you running? The ones in your signature? Check out the link in my sig and see if that works. Might also want to download Fasterfix from the market and change it to something closer to Italy.
Yep, all the details are in the signature... thanks I've already read that guide in your sig.
I'll try with Fasterfix (My current SUPL address is supl.sonyericsson.com because supl.google.com seems not to work here in Europe) and will let you know.
What's your GPS accuracy?
When on Froyo, I can get it down to 20ft and under. When on ICS usually about 40-60ft. Now that we think that we have figured out the GPS bug that should get smaller.
My GPS didn't want to work the best on CM7 either. It did work, but not as good as other ROMs. I'm running Euphoria and locks are pretty good, 20m at most and usually in 10-15 seconds. Worth a shot.
I had no luck with Fasterfix. I may want to try ICS Euphoria as soon as it goes out of RC-cycle (probably with the next release).
You should give it a go now. Not really sure what they could imporive on at this point other that some data storage issues. But really everything works as it should. No mute/unmute and GPS issues seem to be linked to Launcher Pro.

^^^This. I cannot think of an issue that I've encountered with it. Once you go ICS, you won't go back
I hope so
We'll see in the next weeks
