If press to wake, i think it is possible. But no different with pressing power button. If touch to wake up, I dont think it is an easy thing to make sensor response in standby mode
no, not touch to wake. that would be bad. imho. i would like 'press to wake'
I would like that also!

The original Inc had an optical joystick that you could press to wake it up. This phone doesn't have one...any other way to wake it up w/o pressing the power button?

Not yet. I'm sure once it is rooted and all a volume wake key hack will be provided.

Just curious, but what would that accomplish? You'd still be pressing a physical button, and from the reviews the volume button is the mushy one this time, not the power/lock button. Not trying to be a d**k, just wondering what's the advantage of using the volume key over the p/l.
Too bad there isn't a way for something like "shake to wake".

To me nothing. I just use the power button. Some people seem to like it though.
Is this possible? I just want it to not turn on the screen. I notice in my front pocket sitting down sometimes the power button gets pressed and turns on the screen. I would prefer the home button only cause it is flatter and more flush with the device. I am able to edit the home button to either wake or not wake the phone, but the power button wakes the phone even when I erase the fields in all the system/usr/keylayout files. There must be a backup file or something somewhere telling the power button to turn the screen on. I use WidgetLocker also.
Are you sure it's not the home button turning your screen on? Pretty common occurrence...

No. I have disabled that and will leave it disabled until I can figure out how to disable the power button.
i would like to see this as well, the power button is too easy to press accidentally. i tried editing the keylayout files but i couldnt get it to work either.... here's my ideal setup: the home button wakes the phone, the power button does nothing unless you long press it to bring up the power options menu. or press it while the screen is on to turn off screen.
I too have this problem.
The power button is easy to press when it's on my pocket and I even have a case on it. The case makes it a little harder to press but I can still hear the click of the button when so I know when it happens.
Can anyone tell me is it currently all z2 tablets that have the issue or are some fine, if it is a fw issue then shouldn't all if them have the problem? I'm just in the middle if sending mine back for a replacement so just wondered.
Thanks
James
What do you mean by touchscreen wake issue? Double tap to wake not always working ? I know I sometimes needed to tap mine 3 or 4 times before it woke, in stead of two times. But I disabled the features since it seemed to be the main cause for my issue with occasional ignored touches. I haven't really noticed any ignored touches since I disabled it.
well if mine goes to display goes to sleep and i then either tap or press the power button to wake the tablet the screen sometimes either completely freezes and i have to really tap hard to the tap to be recognised, the screen also stutters about.
When was the last time you fully shut down and rebooted the tablet?
Is the severity of the problem different when double tap to wake is off compared to when it's on?
Does changing stamina mode options make a difference? Such as with the limited performance option on compared to off?
You have the latest (.402) firmware, right?
Yeh i am on .402, stamina mode is off, same thing seems to happen regardless if i double tap or press the pwr buttom, when it happens i then have to press the pwr buttom again to turn the screen off, i then press again to wake, and when i wake the 2nd time its back being nice and smooth again.
I'm basically having the same issues listed in the below topic which ive also replied in:

But have you tried disabling the double tap wake feature completely (in display settings) ?
And have you tried really powering off the device -not just turning the screen off, but holding the power button and choosing power off- leave it off for a minute and then power it on again ?
yes to bothm the double tap feature was off to start with when i was getting the issues, i turned it only only because i found it useful. i diont find the issues any different with it on or off.
also yes i do restart the tablet regularly, its not a constant issue it only seems to be if i allow the screen to time out.
anyway a new tablet has arrived today, i wont get to use it until later on though.hopefully it will be better.
Is it possible to double tap the screen to wake up the phone and then hold your thumb or finger over the power button to unlock the phone?
I have been burned by power buttons that have worn out over time on too many devices. I love my G2s ability to double tap and wake the screen. I hit the power button maybe once every few months.
So before buying this phone, I just want to make sure I can avoid using the power button except for once in a while.
a power button should not be failing in normal use.... what phones have you had that cause you to have this paranoia.
Yes, you can double tap to wake the screen then touch the fingerprint and the device will be unlocked.
Yes that is infact what I always do
Settings -> Display
Near the bottom, there is a setting to double tap to wake.
Wouldn't ambient display switch on the display also?
This is what I do, when tap to wake actually works. Seems a little flakey with the latest update during deep sleep. Sometimes take a lot more than two taps, then other times its quick. Same with fingerprint reader, I found my thumb works best or else Im frequently pressing it a few times to where I just give up and enter my pin lol. I also use Nova launcher which lets you assign a double tap gesture to lock the screen which you can then use any app from the play store that will blank the screen and lock.

Not the OP, but my 22 month old Z1 Compact recently developed a faulty power button. Fortunately it was just under warranty still, so got repaired for free. The power button on my Nexus 4 also became faulty after a couple years use. Apparently a fairly familiar issue, quick fix was to slide a bit of paper in the button mechanism. My new shiny Z5C has just arrived and don't want the same thing happening again, so going to try out touch-to-wake.
Hello
This is my second day using the Gear S I set the screen to be Always On, as it is more comfortable, but I noticed that every accidental touch on the screen will wake the watch up :cyclops:
is there any way that I activate the screen using the power button only?
thank you all

You can't have both. If you want to do what you're describing go into style and shut off clock always on. Then go into motion and uncheck wake up gesture.
Your watch will now only turn on the screen if you touch the power button.

isn't this something we can come around by rooting?
I mean aren't there any workarounds?:crying:
still searching and reading
I am looking for the same solution - I want the screen to always show a high battery efficient clock and only show the main watch face when I press the home button or activate the screen by doing the wake up gesture(as Sony's SW2 does...)
