Does somebody know how you can store a GPS location in a picture (EXIF-data)? I see some GPS related keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\General but they seem to have the correct value.
There is an option to enable something called "GPS Picture", (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\P9, set Enable to 1), but pictures taken in this mode wont safe gps data into the exif.. maybe something else is missing, but so far i cant see what..
*bump*
Anyone got this to work yet?

Hi,
It takes time to get a fix from ur GPS, and taking and saving pictures is way to fast for ur GPS to react. Hence no data saved...
Try activating GPS with something like VisualGPSce
. Should work if the settings for GPS managing are set to auto.

that was one of the first things i tried, since i had the same thought process there. unfortunately, that doesnt work. did that work on your device? there must be something else missing to be able to use this feature..

I'd have to agree. But it does do its job for snapshots. And, if at all possible, GPS information included might actually add quite a bit off usefulness..

There's no option to disable it under the camera setting. And I have to disable wireless networks & GPS together before removing its ability to geotag. But by doing so, my google maps/navigation won't work.
So is there a way to just disable geotagging or wipes the info from photos completely?
Bump. Still looking for an answer or any help with this.
Bump.

I bumped this earlier, but i think i figured it out.
go into your regular settings and go to location and security and UNCHECK both "use wireless networks" and "use GPS Satellites" I checked the photo i uploaded to picasa and i get this:
Latitude: 0.000000° N
Longitude: 0.000000° E
So i believed it worked.
I gotta run so if any one else can do this to confirm. That would be great.
Is this really the only way to disable geo-tagging? Don't those two settings also affect the maps app? So the only real solution is to remember to turn off the location services before shooting a picture and then re-enabling it before using the maps.
For anyone who thinks this is not a big deal, read the stories about Adam Savage and his geo-tagging incident.

The setting in the camera app is gone in Froyo?
Settings - Tools - GPS make sure it's unchecked
These are the settings I see in my camera app (Using Nero v3)
Camera Tab:
Outdoor Visibility
Focus Mode
Timer
Resolution
White Balance
Effects
ISO
Metering
Anti-Shake
Auto Contrast
Blink Detection
Image Quality
Adjust
Wrench tab:
Guidelines
Review
Shutter Sound
Storage
Reset
Firmware Update
That's it. There's a GPS icon on the screen, but touching it just causes the camera to focus at that spot. The menu button on the phone doesn't do anything.
I have checked and sure enough, the geotagged information is being stored in the exif information in the image.

BUMP, seriously, not being able to turn off geotagging in 2.2 is annoying.
The only way to turn it off is by turning off the GPS entirely, that is annoying!
They need to put an option in the camera settings to turn off GEO tagging.

Ya I always thought geotagging and all the location apps are really really creepy. Companies collecting personal data anonymously is not THAT bad, but things that could single out/identify me as a individual are completely a different story.
I rather thought this was a known bug even on 2.1 where geotagging would stay on even if you turned it off.
Edit: the only way I was able to get the gps to turn off was by turning off the use wireless net works under location and security.

Anyone? I know I seen it on 2.1
I just encountered this problem on a 2.2 ROM for the Captivate. I can't believe that more attention is not being paid to this security flaw. The only thing I found besides disabling location features on the phone is a program called Geo Eraser which will remove geotags from photos after they are taken: http://androgeoid.com/2010/10/remove-photo-geotagging-info-with-geo-eraser/ . This is not an ideal solution as you still have to remember to remove the geotag.
Bumping this BIG TIME now.
Just got the OFFICIAL 2.2 Froyo installed and GEO-TAGGING needs to GO!
I just rooted it so, what's next?
I agree. You should have the option... But that's why I rooted... So I can do what I want...
I am with androidandroid, what is the next step to fix this?

I'd like to get this figured out, too. I posted a question in the Captivate forum asking about using Tasker to disable/enable location services while the camera is active.

Now it reappeared.
I've Tried Almost Everything I could think of on the few 2.3.4 Roms I flashed, But no matter what My Battery Drains Fast as Hell...
Anyone have Any Suggestions?

I been running synergy nightly with sense, no battery drain issues here.
adjust all your settings first, if you haven't already, such as background data, GPS, location, all that stuff. run it very conservative and see if there is a change.
if you are running all the widgets that update automatically, weather, friend stream, etc etc etc... or even task killers, set CPU, crap that uses up CPU cycles... well you should have this figured out already..

you don't have 'always on mobile data" checked for starters. Don't have GPS, WIFI, 4G,

things syncing whenever they damn well please. If all else fails, download a program
from the market to see if there are any rouge apps running when they shouldn't be.

If i dont have always mobile data ON or Wifi, if I stop using the widgets who need sync, if i stop use a lot of things, if i dont use the live wallpapers as background why not to buy a Nokia phone then?.
I think that the major problem of all the android phones is the battery life. It sucks.
Adjust settings as the post above. Download senseless ROM from scroler and battery issue issue will be a thing of the past. Of course you will have to follow the suggestions to implement it. My biggest improvement in battery life was when I turned off background notifications in accounts sync in settings. For 2.3.3 roms...vipers ROM is the best.

As for why have a smart phone and not use the features?
There is no reason. But there is also no reason to expect good battery life, either. If
you haven't noticed, battery technology hasn't improved to the extent that we all would
love to see. It sucks, but its true. Once they improve, so will battery life.

Hi, I'm new here, but I figure my question is as good as any other. I recently became proud owner of the Xperia Neo MT15, which is now rooted and thoroughly protected, but I noticed something about the GPS and Network Location that bothers me - each time I enable either one, it asks me to agree to anonymous data collection.. Well, I don't agree, and I see no reason why I should be denied the features, because of my belief. So my question is this - does anyone know which system apk controls this? I would really like to impose it some restrictions using Pdroid as to stop the data collection. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Nope. Not the culprit, since I don't even have it. I do however notice a lot of calls for Network Location from com.sonyericsson.learningclient(which sounds logical) and devicemonitor(which sounds just suspicious). They start actively operating as soon as I enable GPS. I've disabled the access to most things for both and set GPS and Network Location data to be served as random. I don't think there are any other moles.
It's weird, because they both sound so harmless, when I look at their descriptions in the list you linked to. Maybe there's something else. I'll see if I can find anything.
Sony has a particular feeling to collect data .
Soon you will discover also that the sony Gps will not works without data at all, because is affected by a bug, and it drops every 5 minutes if you don't have data enabled.

Holy... why did I ever buy a SE in the first place?! I love the brand, and I've loved every phone I've had/used (those include K750, K850, P1i). I'll try to see if I have the 5 min. bug.
EDIT: I'm not sure if i observed the behavior or not. I didn't go anywhere, but stayed on the window with the GPS and nav software on. The software never displayed a loss of connection. I did notice the GPS icon went to it's unfixed state twice for a split second, 5 minutes apart, but I guess I'm supposed to be on the move to notice the issue. All the while learningclient would call for GPS location and be fed random data. The wifi and data connections were both disabled. I'm going for a drive, I'll test and report back.

there's even one folder data/idd who also have output folder. It stores some files in there but can't figure out what trigger loging.

I don't remember deleting IddAgent. The other two I track using PDroid. I just enable its notifications for everything and I watch what does what. learningagent seems very keen on getting GPS location, while it's on, and device monitor calls network location every once in a while, I see no good reason why.
If you are able to unlock your bootloader, and install a custom kernel like inteks, or nightelf ones (void guarantee), question about collecting data while you enable gps just dissapear. I dont know if there is a easier way.
If I wanted to throw away my warranty, I would have done it the day I bought it. I know a custom Rom would solve the issue, but I don't want to risk it with the warranty, not yet anyway.

Hi there! I'm having some doubts about the phone, switching between apps forces app refresh, even if I switch only for a couple of seconds. If I was filling up a form and had to check something in another app (let's say a bank app), everything I completed resets itself. If I was using a browser, leave it for a couple of seconds, come back, it refreshes the website (spending data and time). Any way to make it better? A really fast phone but this is bothering me.
Here is a video I recorded to show what I mean.
https://youtu.be/b_wrBgJrS4M
Tried limiting 4 background process as someone suggested me but it didn't change behavior.
Thanks!

I think you should add wanted application to App protection (actually you have to remove them from the list of "killable" applications, they will appear in Disabled auto cleaning part).
You will find those settings in Phone Manager > Power saving management > App protection.
If you want all applications to be kept you should disable Ultra-long standby during sleep.
Let me know if it has worked.

Nothing more sorry, thought that adding borwsers to "don't kill" list would stop theses refresh. Maybe it's the way your browsers are designed. Try others to compare.
I tried a couple of browsers, opera, chrome, dolphin, they all do the same, the only that kind of works are the bubble type browsers but I don't find them stable enough. Oh well, if you think of something let me know, for now I'm grateful you could help me the way you did.

In developer options, under running services. When I click on the service, it opens the option to stop the service.. I haven't been able to find why the camera is starting this.. I don't know how to post screenshot or I'd post the screen shot of it.. Just baffles me.

Just checked and it loads as a part of com.lge.camera ... So, if you want to keep the stock cam app, looks like you'd need something that stops the boost service after every time you use the stock camera app. Stopping it doesn't seem to affect anything, but it's running again after using stock camera app.
If you don't use the stock app, it could easily be de-bloated with adb commands. Boost service would obviously not start then.
What is it? I'd guess it's a kind of 'stub' for the app that helps it to start more quickly? Or it may be a service for (new) virtual reality applications? In any case, stopping it didn't seem to affect anything I use. So debloating it would probably be okay.
One thing to consider though - as far as usefulness of the stock cam app goes - with phone idle / screen off, dbl press down vol brings up cam app (stock). This, I consider, very convenient if you ever need to take a shot quickly. If the V30 is like the G6 (probably is), LG doesn't provide (easily) a way to change which cam app comes up with that dbl click. So for me, the stock app stays because of it's 'hard link' to that button and quick ability to get pic of car speeding away after it just side swiped my parked car!!
or you know, maybe an unexpected attractive person within camera range
Cheers
