Bloomberg application for Windows Mobile - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

According to many news sites from the summer (like these : http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/jun08/06-10BloombergMobilePR.mspx and http://visualstudiomagazine.com/news/article.aspx?editorialsid=9987), there is apparently a Bloomberg application for windows mobile similar to the iphone app. Yet, I cannot find any place to download this. Does anyone have any information on this?

Seems to be more or less an Asian thing, neverless here the MSN Search results: http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=Bloomberg+"Windows+Mobile"+download&src=IE-SearchBox

still cannot find a download site with that search from msn.com

http://bbmobile.bloomberg.com/winmo.html

yeah ...check out guys with above link ..its 472kb only cab file

Looks like you might need a Bloomberg Professional Account in order to use the Mobile Application.

I installed the .cab file on my phone, (then registered on bloomberg via the normal bloomberg website using my pc), but cannot login via the app on my mobile. It does not recognize my login name and I cannot register via the mobile...Any ideas???

Winmo is losing out big time.

Indeed, there is a bloomberg app for winmo, but it is not free. the site to download is http://bbmobile.bloomberg.com/winmo.html , but you got to register to use it. The normal account you registered cannot be use on the bloomberg winmo app. To use it, you need to call up to bloomberg and sign up a "bloomberg anywhere" account. I did call up for the same issue. to sign up, it will cost thousand per month, while iphone is giving it for free. Even Big Players such as Yahoo and Autodesk went over to iPhone.
Now u see the reason for iphone wave. If this continue, iPhone will monopolise the smart phone market. Some ppl like me, thought that Blackstone is a potential iPhone killer. After get the blankstone, I will say blankstone is good, BUT it is nowhere close to what iPhone have to offer. Some even think that Palm Pre could be the next iPhone killer. But after the review, I think not.
My next phone set could be iPhone. Hope Winmo will catch up by then. Good Luck to Winmo user like me. Major thing i still using Blackstone, is GPS and bluetooth. If iPhone can resolve these issue somehow, I dun think any of the other phones can stand before iPhone any more.

Its here! the non-pro version like for the iphone.
Been looking awhile for this, wonder why they are so quiet about it..

perfect. thanks a lot. any alternatives?

Thanks for the link. However, I cannot get it work on my Jasjam wm 6.1. I get the following error message:
Bloomberg Mobile.exe
MissingMethodException

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a workaround? I'll be very grateful for any assistance.

Hi,
Could you pls supply the cab file?
Thanks.

Android Capabilities?

Hi Fellow XDA'ers!
I have a touch dual (with WM6.5).
I like the look of the Hero but have a few reservations.
Firstly, I read posts that it struggles to sync with Outlook!!?? - can this be sorted? - ActivSync (by BTooth) is very handy and does the job well.
Secondly, I like having the apps such as IGO8 or TOMTOM to hand on my phone, should I need it.
Can I install these apps (or similar) on the Hero?....In other words - can WM apps work on Android?
thanks

I think syncing with Outlook over Bluetooth is out of the question. It can sync Contacts and Calendar (only those two) over the USB cable with the use of the 'HTC Sync' software. That software is not available _yet_ on the HTC site, but apparently it IS included on the memorycard included with the Orange bundle that is now shipping.

Those two applications are not (yet?) available for Android. There are a few other navigation solutions available, but I'm under the impression they are not the level of iGO or TomTom. Also, I have no idea on which countries they support or what price they are available at.

No. There are a whole bunch of Android apps, but software made for Windows Mobile will simply not work (and never will) on Android. They will have to make a special Android version for it, and for utilities and tweaks that is simply not easily done.

ALKs CoPilot Live 8 is available on the market and is quite competitively priced at £22.60 for a one region version (e.g. UK maps).
I've not played with it extensively, as I bought it as a backup for my regular Garmin satnav unit, but it is definitely much slicker than some of the other alternatives for Android that I've tried (e.g. AndNav).

Dave

Seems to be a good TomTom alternative! Thanks for the Tip! And they even have 'whole of western europe' or only 'benelux'. That makes it much more affordable if you never leave The Netherlands for example .
Since I'm an Android newbie myself (well, not even an Android newbie, still waiting for my Hero): On the CoPilot site, on 'where to buy' to say to go to the Android market. But they also have three picture, some sort of square barcode. I've seen those more around Android oriented pages. How do they work?
It's a QR code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code) which is essentially a 2-dimensional barcode that can hold a variety of data. In this case, it is holding a URL.
If you download a barcode reader from the market (e.g. Barcode Scanner by ZXing team, which is the one I use) you can use the phones camera to "read" the barcode and it will then allow you to jump to the URL in the browser.

Dave
Winmo apps on Android
You never know what could happen guys!
I currently dual boot windows 7 ultimate and Linux Ubuntu.
And as all linux users are aware, there is a nice little app called wine, Wine allows us to run and use many windows apps in a Linux enviroment...
Cant be that much different with Android (linux) and windows mobile.. can it?
Would be a fantastic step and i think possibly the final push for many winmo users!
Im still struggling to choose my self....From HD to Hero?? mmmm
There are few things you need to know about the young android:
1. You cannot save apps to memory card unless rooted.
2. You cannot receive files via bluetooth unless rooted.
overall, Android is a lot better than Winmob
Sorry if this is a stupid question :-(
I run a number of Java applets under WINMO via an applet manager (ESmertec for example). Will these run on Android?
CoPilot is working brilliantly on my Magic and I'll be putting it on my Hero when I get it at weekend.
Here's a great thing - any apps that I've purchased from the Android Market are tied to my google checkout account - When I sign in on my Hero and go to market, those apps will show as purchased and downloadable for me. Also my calendar and contacts will automatically sync to my Hero.
As far as WM apps are concerned, I've used both WM6 and android devices - Not missing anything on my Magic that I had on WM now that Turn By Turn Nav is there. Some apps are already ported over - Docs To go, and recently Touchpal Keyboards.
The ability to search for, find, pay for (if needed) and download software on the fly is just priceless. The fact that most apps are free or very cheap is even better. I'd not go back to WinMo now for anything...
However, you're just gonna have to get one in your hand and see for yourself - its all personal preference amongst the top handsets really.
well my upgrade is being delivered in the morning! yey! HTC Hero on orange..
Wonder if tomtom will port any time soon? should be an easy job considering the tom tom units are linux driven!

I've been a TomTom user (on my HTC Trinity and HTC Touch Pro) for almost 3 years now. My HTC Hero will be arriving on Monday morning and I'm actually pretty excited about the change I'll be making to CoPilot.
Not that there's anything wrong with TomTom, but the newer version of CoPilot looks very cool, and it might be nice to try something different.

I have heard a lot of people complaining about the version of CoPilot crashing on the Hero, not sure why this is. TomTom are releasing an iPhone version so who knows, might make its way over to Android in about 3 years?
For me, Copilot certainly crashed. It was not a patch on the stability of Garmin XT. The application felt unfinished with a lot of times when not a full crash, lack of keyboard reponse. Tbh, this failure was the straw that broke the Hero's back
I've not had a single problem with copilot on my magic. Fully tested with postcodes etc and long journeys. Its VERY cheap compared to most satnavs, can be used without any data assistance at all, and very quick to reroute etc.
I have heard about some probs but they have mostly seemed to be related to people trying to hack it or get the maps running without paying, and I know that copilot has added a few layers of security since I bought mine for magic - initially it just installed and needed your google checkout number.
Then it needed that, and you then got a license code and device ID thingy.
I had an update early on from version .303 to .327 which made mine stop loading - One email to support, told me to uninstall ALL, including the maps folder, and it was back working perfectly... I personally think the voices of folks having probs trying to get it running without paying are clouding the issue a bit - I've only heard from one (cbailey) who I know paid, but still got crashes.
Daisy - Was happy with my G1 (since Jan) Happy with my Magic(since beginning of June), and gonna be happy with my Hero I think...

You're in the UK right? I have been looking into copilot as a replacement for my old TomTom once I get my Hero. And although copilot said on their website they have european versions, if I browse the store (though Cyrket for example) I only see their USA map pack / application. Is this location / localization dependant somehow? Why can't I see the european maps in the market?

I think we got a big android fan here
In the Market, you get the option for a One Region map - Uk and Ireland comes under that - for £25.99 (Market shows 22 something but then checkout adds VAT for UK)
I think these options are only seen/available on market for android phones. I think they are not offered as products for other platforms, and you only get details once you have bought CoPilot 8 for android.
I personally downloaded CoPilot Central and got my maps via PC through that. You get a Membership name and password when you checkout at google Checkout - I was sent an email with details of that. The actual copilot programe for android downloads to your fone OTA like other apps, but the map fetcher is on PC. I think you CAN get the maps OTA to your fone, but I thougyht that seemed silly and would take ages and be heavy on your data allowance etc.
CoPilot central is free I think - You can get it here

No problems at all with CoPilot APART from TouchFlo seems to lock up when I exit. Not sure if anyone else has this problem.
Other than that, it has no lag what-so-ever, which I used to always have with TomTom. Big thumbs up for me, even more so when I sort out the locking issue when exit, but thats no biggie.

UCWEB UC Browser 7.0.0.41 some security comments

It looks very promising, advanced, lots of features, but...
1. GUI errors, lots of texts and error messages appear in chinese, despite being official English version.
2. Writing known addresses, it always jumps to default chinese versions of site (ex. Google.com)
3. Trying to open link in new tab/window, it hangs completely, need soft-reset or use FdcSoft Task Manager 3.1 and wait few minutes
4. Trying to launch page from history, nothing happens.
5. Cumbersome to import favorites: only from PIE, no Opera.
6. It seems Chinese communist censorship has said its final word , trying to navigate to sites banned by Chinese communist govt, you see an error message in chinese .. well..if giant Google is on knees in front of Communist Chinese authorities, what would you expect from a homeland chinese company.. ?
7. What is really annoying and a real security risk is that a lot of browser traffic goes via some chinese servers, despite clarifications from UCWEB company on their support forum that this occurs ONLY at first start after install.
To be more clear, I say that any western country citizen should be very suspicious to this program.
Perhaps only third part country may ignore, but to let your personal and secret data pass through a chinese server, you must be completely irresponsible.
Otherwise a nice product, pity is so unsafe.
To be joking, I'd say: ok, I'm a western (USA, Canada, GB or alike..) I know the Big Brother is watching me (NSA, CIA, FBI, MI6..) I know how to behave.. I have nothing to fear, don't care if they know my bank account or my sms to my girlfriend... but the thing is totally different when such info is "used" in China to blackmail you...
With regards,
The biggest issue I have with it is that it doesn't close down properly for me. It leaves a large chunk of ram in gwes.exe (2-3 MB). If I run sk Tools 'compact heaps' after closing it down, it will release the ram. I didn't have this problem with 6.3.
Well, It is actually a web broswer initially made for chinese people (cuz it's a chinese company) and the server would surly be in China to inssure the speed. "Maybe" some day in the future the UC company would have their development in western countries and then you can use it without the fear of being threatened or something else.
However, There's not doubt that it offers a great compression ratio of data that saves our bill. Being an user in China, I've been using it everyday since I got my first phone.
It's a good app and I hope it can be popular around the world in the coming days.
Sorry for my bad English.
Best regards,
Rotar

I agree with you, it's a very good one.
Same compression alike Skyfire, Skyfire can Flash but the rest of it is poor.
UCWEB is great, but no flash.
Flash in UCWEB 7
To be frank, the new version of UCWEB - 7.0 supports Flash. (Well, it is better to say that it is capable to display flash, you can ONLY see it working by visiting:
mlf.gd.ucweb.com/ppc/index.xhtml (Using your UCWEB!)
(Not sure if this works outside China, but you can try )
At least the chinese version works well. It requires you to install a plugin called "Adobe Flash Lite 3.1" and UCWEB will do the rest for you.
Heres some screenshoots:
ATTACH 001
This is the website that has the flash games compatible for UCWEB 7. Unfortunately it is in Chinese so maybe you can't understand it.
Just click one of the links and this will show up:
ATTACH 002
If you still havn't got your "Flash Lite 3.1" installed, UCWEB will notify at here and you can easily follow its steps to make the flash play on your screen.
This is what it looks like:
ATTACH 003
It also suppert full screen mode which would offer better graphic in landscape mode:
ATTACH 004
I guess the company is working on making the flash to show on normal sites. I wish I can see that in this year.
Hope you enjoy it.

its a good browser from speed point of view. but wz sum bugs .exmp afrer inistallation when connected through gsm its ok. then if turned to connection through activesync it failed !! hope they ill fix dat bug in the future version.
Love UCWEB 6 but hate version 7....My issues are the same as all mentioned but also It will only connect via WIFI!!!!!!! try connecting via GPRS or 3G and fails. always showing a 9007 connection error!!! seems very odd.Hope they sort it out...

Lohtse
been using on I910 for a week and 6.3 long before. I experience none of the problems the first poster had and works on WiFi and 3g. love the new rendering (adaptive mode) of sites in version 7 and scrolling is much better. I am in america and if the chinese want to watch me surf PDA sites, look at train pictures, check sports scores and look up prices of things and read user reviews. god bless them. my credit card number and bank accounts being entered on my phone will never happen. very nice browser great improvements. but people with questionable surfing habits BEWARE the chinese are watching. he he he. post done from ucweb.
good day.

Oh! What a pity! Wish you could see that in the next version.
BTW, back to the security problem. I guess I could also say that using Skyfire is dangerous because its server's in America. However, it supports flash well. Then it is our freedom to choose what to use. Hopefully nothing's going to happen when we use these broswers since we ought to be friends and live in peace. The globalization is happening and our world is becoming a big village (ideally). May there be less suspecions and misunderstandings between countries and people.
Best regards,
Rotar
P.S. I hope you can understand me because even myself can not make sure how to express the above ideas in Chinese.
Update:
I discovered that the site has changed it URL. Now it is "mfl.ucweb.com.cn". I guess it'll work this time.(Tested via an oversea server, you should be able to see/download the page on your PC.)
Best regards,
Rotar
i installed it on my samsung i600. ucweb took long time to start, and make my phone freeze. i restarted my phone, and it happened again. any ideas?
Security... wouldn't b a problem if you are not accessing secure data like online bsnk passwords etc... But its not a problem at all for me because this super fast browser doesn't connect through GPRS...

[Q] QuickOffice on the Streak

I am in desperate need of a good efficient Microsoft compatible office program on my Streak. QuickOffice came preinstalled, but I cannot seem to upgrade to the full version (so it only reads pdfs). Also when I press the buy now button on their website, it pulls up marketplace and says it was not found. I have a support ticket open on their site, but so far no useful responses.
Is anyone else having this problem? Or can anyone recommend a program for reading word and excel (and maybe powerpoint)?
Another bizarre thing is that a developer (who I sent a message to saying the Streak does not display their app right) came back saying "due
to it's irregular screen size the graphics for the game don't quite fit". 800x480 is not irregular. Maybe the screen does have a higher resolution which is being scaled down like fards mentioned.
Company in Question: http://www.quickoffice.com/
.
Have you looked at documents to go?
Also I think the screen size is down to the dpi, they are using 160 dpi on the streak, don't think that's too common.
Well i had a good look around the tinternet for you and have to say there is not much out there office wise for the android
Like fards said documents to go is one but it says will not support office 2010 so from what i can see the one we have Quick office seems to be the best
Now i went to the marketplace found the quick office clicked buy now and it took me to the google checkout did you get that far ?
I reckon Quick Office, without copy & paste, is pretty redundant, that's a big & basic hole for a document editor, if it was the only option then I guess it'd still buy it and pray for an update!
Hi Fards, I'm about to purchase documents to go, I didn't know it existed for Android. I need it for creating and editing word and excel documents and then emailing them, do you use it, and are you happy with it for those basic tasks?
Regards,
Matt
Thanks for the feedback. It just seems like QuickOffice is the best solution currently out.
For the time being I may go with Documents To Go, thanks for the suggestion fards
@lufc
I cannot find it in the marketplace. Likewise, when I use my barcode reader from their website it says the app cannot be found. The same happens when I press the buy now button on the web page from my Android phone.
My Dell Streak is running Android 1.6 build 3562
Still no response from QuickOffice support.

I have a need for spreadsheet on the Streak and I compared the lite trial versions of both Documents To Go and QuickOffice. I decided that Documents To Go was much better.
Now that I have it I am blown away by its pdf capabilities whereby it word wraps the text so goodbye to terminable side to side scrolling. Amazing.
Having registered my intention to try it out, DataViz offered me the suite for $9.99 which is cheap enough so that I don’t need to compromise my ethics over it. You could say at that price it is a steal anyway - pun intended.
I use the paid for version of Docs to go and it really is good. I have used the word to go to amend work docs on the move and this week discovered the powerpoint viewer was very useful in outline mode as I could access all the notes straight from that view, which was helpful in my meeting as it also means less scrolling
Tbh I haven't used docs to go since my palm days many many years ago, but I was looking at it just before you posted The question.
I can't stand pirated software, especially when he developers work so hard and charge so little for their android stuff.

Although I am a software conterfitting whore for Windows, I do indeed support Android and their developers apps. Plus at such a minimal cost, it is entirely worth it.
Bad news though, I downloaded the Documents to Go shown in my markerplace and when I opened it to press 'buy key' it brings me to the search result for Documents to Go, but does not show the full version
Looks like a may be installing an illegal version after all... Or maybe after I root my phone to a newer build it will be resolved.

I bought it direct from the website using my full win7 computer. This was in response to an email from DataViz as follows:-
"Thank you for registering our Documents To Go 2.0 "Viewer" for your Android-based device. The free Viewer version allows you to view Microsoft Word and Excel files and attachments on your device.
We are excited to offer you a special price, direct from DataViz only, on our Documents To Go Full version upgrade. "
That mail contained a link and I followed my nose from there.
Maybe best to wait for DataViz to respond to your registration after you download and install the Viewer only version?
QuickOffice updated my support ticket saying they updated the installer and to look again.
Now fully functional, purchased the app with no problems
I got an offer email through today as well do bought it, much prefer the pdf reader to the adobe one. worth the 9.99 usd for that, the amount of emails I get with pdfs in..
I used quick office and docs to go on the iphone, docs to go was better. However all the features are not on the android version and I have found the quick office version better and functionality rich (although far from perfect). The main features that made it better was the google docs integration

I use the purchased ver. of Doc.'s to go on my EVO and just purchased it again for my Streak. I use the PDF viewer a lot. One of the things you can do with the pdf viewer is go to a restaurant's web site, download their nutrition info.. Then next time you wonder how may fat calories the super sized Whopper has, you will have it at your finger tips. You can also make color coded pdf/excell doc's on a pc then email them to your streak. Open them with doc's to go and you are all set.
I discovered today that you can't open encrypted files in QuickOffice, but Docs to go (the full version at least) had no problem with it!
When I say 'encrypted' I use it in the sense that MS office uses it - you put a password on a file and save it.

any ideas?
I've wiped the cache and dalvik cache just in case and that didn't help either

[Q] Application shortcut with command line parameters

Hi.
I always had windows mobile devices in the past, and like you must know, the old good windows mobile no longer exist... Microsoft killed it.
So I switched to Android. I really like android, The way it works is pretty the same than windows mobile with file browser, files system(Not like the Iphone without any way to deal with a file at all), .APK install like the .CAB on WM...
One think that I loved on WM is how easy it was to make shortcut by yourself, even with parameters. As example, it was easy to create a shortcut to Coreplayer to play an HTTP stream when simply clicking on it.
Like: "coreplayer.exe my_teststreamDOTcom : portNumber"
I searched a lot over internet and forums all over there, and I can't see any solution like this on android.
I'm pretty sure that you can do it with some application like ANYCUT or BETTERCUT or also "MANUAL INTENT SHORTCUT" But I have not find any documentation or example to how to do this.
Any of you having the same problem or found a method to do this?
Thanks!!
Cedric
No one what to do the same thing really?
Apps in the Android store which might fit the bill: "tasker" and "script manager"

Did those apps work?
It's been a few months since he asked, I doubt if he's checking the thread regularly. He's probably found some answer or workaround, since November. I posted the answer mostly because this thread will pop up in internet searches, and it will be able to help others find the answer quickly, too.
Good lookin out pimpin.

New Office App in the works: SoftMaker Office 2012 free beta

Hi guys,
just found this app from a german software dev:
http://www.softmaker.de/ofa.htm
You can download it for free but you have to register with your email to get a licence key, after that its completely usable and free. Right now TextMaker (word), PlanMaker (excel) and Presentations are available.
I just installed it and took a first look at the TextMaker and it really seems better than anything else i used before. It has support for all common text files including .docx. It also seems to support keyboard shortcuts for our dock, for example Ctrl+A to select all text is available, something i always missed in Polaris. Also it has auto syllabification and support for auto correction.
When writing with the dock it seemed to have a little lag while typing though. But its still beta so i guess they figure that out until it gets released. Also it FC's sometimes and has some other bugs still.
Really looks promising though
I can only find Windows, Windows Mobile, and Linux.
I found info on the app, but nowhere to sign up for a beta.

Here we go, guys

The Presentation app renders PPT files pretty well, the best I have seen on Android.
Going to try this and see if I like it better, thanks.
An office suite with shortcuts similar to office would be great but what I really need is some reference manager software like endnote. Lots of PDF managers out there but nothing to get references formatted into documents.

How about Ctrl-S for save? That is strangely a huge omission from many of the current Android Office suites.
Just signed up for the beta release, got the email with the install links hope to install tonight.
