I've already posted this today and someone was kind enough to reply but now the original post has gone. Please reply again.
I uploaded my ROM image using XDA tools from my XDAII and attempted to open it using the ROM editor but it says that the passwords don't work that allow it to open.
Any ideas?
Thanks again.
Make sure you don't use the Autodetect type when selecting. Specify the particular file type from the drop down list when selecting the nbf file to open.
(I think that's what I said)
Thanks for that. Still no joy though.
What format does the filename need to be?
When opening a file in ER2003Edit, the file open dialog contains a 'Files of type' drop down list from which you can select the OS ROM (NK.nbf), the Extended ROM (ms_.nbf) or the Radio ROM (Radio_.nbf). Select the appropriate one here, then look for the file in the file list. Do not use the Auto-detect ROM option.
If, after selecting the file as stated above, the password still fails, then the password being used may be wrong.
So, using the Image Tool I select the source as Device Memory (current rom) and the source as any file name I choose on my PC.
When it gets to time left = 0:00 the file should be there? I chose to call it Original.nbf. The image tool doesn't say its done by the way, it just reaches zero. Is this correct?
When I now try to open this I get the password error.
Where am I going wrong?
Aaah now I understand. I missed that are using XDATools to obtain the file. So ignore everything I have been saying I thought you were using ER2003Edit to open standard nbf files. Files extracted using XDATools will be in decrypted form and won't need a password.
btw - XDATools is designed for use with the XDA I, not the XDA II. What is it you are trying to do?
Okay, now we're getting somewhere.
I want to extract my ROM, play around with it and write it back.
By 'playing around', do you mean changing the default installed applications? If so, you would probably be better unlocking the extended ROM on the device and playing around with that. You can find information about doing that by searching the forums. If you are talking about upgrading your software (OS), then you need to use the HimaUpgradeUt route instead of XDATools. My post here gives details on how to do that.
I hope this helps.
Well, I've searched the forum and I see where WM5 users have a hack to get BB on their Athena devices.
Is there a hack, or program mod to get BB on Athena with WM6? I've got a copy of the BB program. It tries to connect and something isn't allowing it.
Can someone point me in the right direction please? I need to get this working and I am a student and work full time. I'll be glad to contribute to your paypal fund. HELP.
I'm working on it. Stay tuned.
OK, got it working with AP Dual 3.0 by PK.
You have to do the following:
- Use a Hex-Editor and open the .nbh file from the update package
- Find the Text Unicode String: HTC-Athena and replace it with HTC-Hermes
- Find the follwing hex string:
1E3DA0E30D3083E3452FA0E30510A0E302 which means OS Version 5.2.1933
and replace it with the following hex-string:
4D3EA0E3063083E3452FA0E30510A0E302 which results in OS Version 5.2.1238
- Flash this to your Athena
- After boot use a registry editor and go to HKLM->System->Versions and change the vlue of Aku from .0.7.0 to .0.2.3
- Install Blackberry Connect Versionb 4.0.0.92 and go through the setup
- You're done, should work now
If some has webspace I can upload a fully modified version of the .nbh file.
Cheers
Is there a way to patch the official WM6 release from T-Mobile D? It comes as an exe File. No .nbh to patch.

I've tried to do a ROM dump this weekend without much success. Can you back up a little bit for some one that isn't as technically savvy as yourself?
Do I need to flash to the AP dual 3.0 by PK first? Then modify the hex strings. I'm not sure how to do the hex strings. How much web space do you need for the files? I'm not certain of the exact order to do this.
Thanks,
Jacquie

You can use winRAR or winZIP to extract the exe and then you get the .nbh.
However, to shorten things up I did the job for you and uploaded the ROM to RS: http://rapidshare.com/files/8420583....35.111.3_1.50.00.00_Ship-BB-Edition.rar.html
It is not tested but should work without any problem. If not, you're on your own, it's your risk to flash it.

Hello, I installed MICHYPRIMA ROM, and Blackberry connect version 4.0.0.106, Transport Version 4.0.0.102. I use BIS, and my terminal is CID unlocked. I tried to open the nbh file in order to modificate "the Text Unicode String: HTC-Athena and replace it with HTC-Hermes", and the hex-strings that you mencioned, but when I use any editor, it's impossible to find those strings. Is there a way you post detailed instructions and programs needed, to get bb connect working on my Athena? Thanks a lot

I am about to write about it on my blog (with a backlink to this post and credits to you of course), and I am curious about whether this batch script is exclusively meant for myTouch 4G or will it work for any Android device? Can't post in the Dev section yet. That's what I get for trolling around since you guys showed me how to root my OG Droid. Thanks, btw.
Now, I'm trying to root my Tbolt, and when I click on the downgrade RUU file to see the contents it says the file is invalid. So, then I tried to extract it, to see what would happen, but same message.
I also downloaded the exploits.zip and the final PG05IMG.zip and was able to view both their contents. Plus, I had to extract the exploits file to the SDK directory, and it worked fine.
So, I then downloaded from all three mirrors, but same result. And then I went to the rom.galaxysense.com site and downloaded from there, but same result. Am I the only one having retarditis? Is the file jacked, or just run-of-the-mill incompetence on my part???
Thanks to whomever takes the time to help out. And thanks for all the help everyone puts out there for the rest of us.
I am confused by your massive amount of words in this post. You need to say maybe, 20 things total.
First, you don't need to open anything, you simply need to put the ZIP onto your SD card and reboot into Hboot.
The only ZIP you need to unzip is the exploit.zip.
I don't need to extract them, I get that. I was looking in the zip files out of curiosity, but when the one file said it was an invalid file type I didn't want to put it on my SD card. That's closer to 20 words, hope that makes sense.

haha, I was feeling like being a smart ass. The RUU needs to be renamed to PG05IMG.ZIP and put on the sd card, then you need to reboot into bootloader.
Also to add, I came into the problem where I renamed to PG05IMG.zip It was already zipped so just had to name it PG05IMG Then it worked for me.
Thanks for the help. I guess no one understood what I was saying, but since no one else has mentioned the file being corrupted I guess I'll use it and hope for the best.
That's why I mentioned that the other two zip files would let me look at their contents, but the third one said invalid file type. I thought it was clear, but my bad...
Either way, here's another post towards getting out of noob post restrictions!

I'm pretty sure that the RUU downgrade is not something you can open. Just make sure the checksum is valid and you're good to go.
I had tried to flash the RUU after I first rooted becuase I was having location issues. It would check the PG05IMG.ZIP and go back to the Hboot screen. I had flashed another rom so I didn't mess with it any further.

Finally! I've been looking through threads forever in search of this very issue. I was all set on rooting last night, and just like you, the Mecha_RUU file wouldn't unzip, said it was invalid, etc. I stopped right there out of fear that I'd get burned pressing on with one of the key files "broken." Have you rooted since with no trouble?
The best thing to always do is get an MD5 sum for the file and compare it to the root post. I have rooted my thunderbolt twice now and never had a problem.
If the md5sum is correct then you should be fine. Also remember in Windows, it hides the extensions. So when you rename your files do not add the extension as it is already there.
You can show the extensions by changing the folder settings.
Downgrade wont flash
1) Power down phone
2) Power up phone holding volume down
3)No option to upgrade just starts checking files
4) Third check is the downgrade file, starts loading
5) Fails because the file is Older than the main
Ive seen other threads touch on this but no one answer it. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also I have already updated to the 7/8/11 OTA.

I appreciate the thread link. That's exactly the error I'm getting. Problem is I'm supposed to downgrade to obtain root ( or at least that's one of the steps). I have downloaded this downgrade file from multiple links and verified its the correct one to use in this step and I always receive the "main version higher" issue. Should I be using a different file to downgrade or is this no longer an option for root since the 7/8/11 ota?

Interesting..
I wiped everything ADB and Thunderbolt related from my PC.
Then I downloaded the easy root from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005292&highlight=easyroot
Then I downloaded and opened the pdf instructions on the same page.
Then I followed the written directions to a T!
Worked like a charm. Steps 1, 2, and 3 hung up and had to be done multiple times but I finally got through it. Some other links if found with this same method were misleading as to doing the steps over again but he accounted for this in his pdf instructions and if you follow it to the letter you should be good.
I MADE THIS THREAD A FEW MONTHS AGO, DIDN'T GET THE ANSWER!! PLEASE HELP!
So, my brother backed up my Samsung Galaxy S4 on his laptop about 3 years ago. Can't remember the program used. He gave me the backup file recently. It's a .bak file which is 1.4GB.
(I screenshotted the file name and attached it here titled " FILE BACKUP TITLE.PNG")
I edited the file, to a .exe. (eg “Samsung SM-G350E_20191001_103009.bak” delete the bak and write exe after the dot and press enter.) That way I can access everything through winrar. However all of the files are encrypted! We have no idea what the password is, what shall I do! (Attached the "enter password" screen in winrar titled " RAR.PNG")
It has 1000's of photos from 2014-2017, I have no idea on what to do. I've checked out brute forcing, but I wasn't sure how to do it.
Thanks.

I'm not sure how to do that. Everytime I click on the file, it forces me to enter a password.
Are you sure that would work? It's not a rar file though. It's an application now, because I renamed it from .bak to .exe.
Thanks!!
(Attached screenshot of the standard file (the BAK file), then the edited one which opens through winrar (the application). Won't upload for some reason, (in the original post).
So basically, the file is a ".BAK" file, then same file was renamed to be an "application" file.

Okay, it's a zip. If older encryption is used then one known file could be used to decrypt it. Was it Advanced something that had that option??

It was advanced password recoveries from elcomsoft, but there are free tools for this known plaintext attack too. https://www.google.com/search?q=known+plaintext+attack+zip
Quite many variables that must match for it to work, but then again, only 12 known bytes is enough, of which at least 8 bytes need to be continuous, so only part of the known plaintext file is needed...
To see if it's even possible open it with 7-zip and see the encryption method.
It should be "zipcrypto deflate/store". Maybe also rar shows it....
If it looks like wondershare file, then using that password (that didn't work) as base could work. At least it would not take much time check numbers from 0-10000+++.

Alright I see, I think you're talking about a bruteforce attack right? Do you have a link for a proper one? So far, none of them havent even started up properly yet.
Alright I see, how do I load the file onto wondershare aswell? There doesnt seem to be a dialogue for it at all.
Thanks.

If the backup file really is RAR-formatted you can try RAR to ZIP Converter what is attached.
