Making TF3D themes - Touch Pro CDMA

Hey guys..
I've been trying to play around for a while to make some TF3D themes, but i am completley new to WM devices and HTC's. Just like everything else, when i get something new i want to modify it. i want to break it by running code blessed by the greatest programmer ever, me.. jk.. completley..
Anyway.. i've been googling, searched xda, search ppc, and some other sites on tutorials on creating touchflo 3d themes and windows mobile themes. I got past the WM theme part, but i'm stuck with TF3d.
I've never seen these types of CAB files before. What software do you use to compile them and wheres the starting point to make a theme? Any help would be more than appreciated. I've skinned everything from Brew phones to internet tablets, gnome, kde and flux, xp and media center extenders.. If someone could point me in the right direction to get my feet off the ground i'll be able to pull myself up the rest of the way.
Thanks!

a lot of us who do change things do not like to use cab files. Sometimes they are not able to be rolled back. Than a hard reset is in order. i would say to make themes concentrate on manila files. You can edit them with manila editor by dman. search that on the forum. Then make your tf3d icons 128x128 for hero icons and 64x64 for tray icons. Check out some of my themes.
A program you will also need is Total Commander-to move the manila files.
check my threads http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452958

Thanks buddy! i appreciate the information!!!

TouchFlo Question

Alright quick (probably simple) question but i cant find the answer to it anywhere. Im trying to cook a Rom for a friend and i have never baked touchflo into a Rom but he wants it. I asked him if he wants the whole cube thing and he told me that he wanted to simply be able to drag his finger up or down to scroll (like the kaiser does). So now my real question is whether this is a part of touchflo or not. Either way I dont care, if i have to install the whole cube package and then disable the cube via reg edits, i can, but i would rather there just be an OEM that lets me do the scrolling. Anyone have any insight to this matter? I have quite a few different OEM packs from around the internet and i have countless OEMs of touchflo. Hope someone knows something about this. Thanks in advance, guys!

Do a forum search for "touchflo"......... The VERY FIRST hit by efrost points in HUGE RED LETTERS to what your friend wants.............................
i appreciate your help (and/or bitterness towards my question.) but lo, i have another. does anyone know where an oem can be downloaded of this touch application by efrost or should i create my own using the cab? either way works, one is just easier
I guess what i am really trying to ask is what is touch flo considered generally? is it the cube or just the scrolling? how is it defined by this community?
touchflo is a cab. cube is separate application. but u need touchflo in order to use cubes.

Theme maker

Hya guys, I was searching the threads looking for some themes for my Niki. In fact, my fiancee owns now my niki and she needs some fine looking themes but I couldn't find anything she wants.
Is there any theme maker program or something like this with which I can easily customise her "desktop"?
Please help me.
Greatful thanks
The old ones from wm2003 where very easy to use, but have bugs on wm5/6.
I'd recomend getting any theme with the colours you want (there are so many in this forum) and edit it with WINCE CAB MANAGER.
You just need to change the image files and the hexadecimal colors, if needed.

you must share from the web ThemeGenCE (it's freeware and available from many sites on the web) and follow this tutorial to use it...

thousands, no .. millions, no .. billions .. etc thanks for the help. I'll try them and if I get some success and make some nice themes I'll post them.
Thanks again

Make a custom kitchen?

First off, I need to thank everyone on this site for the wealth of information that is contained here. I took my stock XV6800 and walked through several tutorials and I've put on 4 different ROM's in 2 days, all of them with the GPS functioning like a champ and everything on the phone running swimmingly.
A special thanks to mr-free for his prompt responses and dcd for his excellent guides.
Anyway, I've already used two kitchens so far to make custom roms (Titan Kitchen 6.5 Beta 4, and Titan Reloaded 1.3.2). Both create very usable ROM's but there's aspects of each that I like better than the others. Since Kitchen 6.5 uses WM 6.5, I'd like to start with that one, but there are several OEM packages that I would like to add to it from Titan Reloaded, as well as a couple of other ones that I've found from the web.
And so I'm not flamed, I have searched and found the following information about Alex's Cooking Kits helpful, but still not completely sufficient to answering my questions:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser ROM Kitchen Tutorial
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex's Cooking Kits
And on to the questions:
1) Is it possible to just copy the folders from the OEM folder of the Titan Reloaded 1.3.2 kitchen into the OEM folder of the 6.5 Beta 4 Kitchen and have them show up in the "BuildOS" menu?
2) Are the instructions in Alex's Cooking Kits applicable to the Titan? Its geared towards the Kaiser, and I couldn't find anything that would lead me to believe it is compatible with the Titan. If not, is there a "Cooking Kit" suitable for the Titan?
I'm not to the point where I'm capable of creating my own OEM packages, but I'm gunning for that too eventually. No questions on that though...yet.
The only question I can help with is your first. The OEM packages from Titan Reloaded 1.3.2 should be able to be copied into pretty much any kitchen.
Note that the Manila_2d_Scott OEM from Titan Reloaded kind of depends on the SYS\dcd_UCAutorun package, as it installs the first M2D theme from CAB at boot. This may be fixed in later versions by making a seperate config.txt for m2d. That way the OEM package will be more portable.
Note that the Youtube package from Titan Reloaded also requires the YTFIX package, but those will hopefully be merged in later versions.
Other than that, you just need to watch out for conflicting packages. Usually buildos will give you errors if this happens, so you'll know.
Awesome, that's really helpful.
Actually m2d is not something I was planning on keeping anyway. I'm moving from a Samsung i760 (dreadfully unhackable) but in an attempt to make it more usable, I actually paid for SPB Mobile Shell, and SPB Phone Suite. I've gotten quite addicted to using them and I don't find m2d to be a sufficient replacement for primarily the lack of ring profiles. Ring/Vib/Silent just isn't enough for me. (And PhoneAlarm doesn't have what I need either.)
What I was looking to move though was:
Adobe Reader 2.5
YouTube (with the YTFIX, now, obviously)
HTC Album
Tweak_Volume_Higher
no2chem_nueExtROM
There aren't any dependencies there that I need to be aware of, are there?
I couldn't find Google Maps in the OEM folder from Titan Reloaded but its no big deal, I can download it I guess.
I guess I should have mentioned that to use the no2chem_nueExtROM package, you'll need to add these lines to the bottom of ROM\XIP\boot.rgu.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ EXT_FLASHDRV]
"DefaultFileSystem"="FATFS"
"Name"=""
"PartitionDriver"=""
"MountHidden"=dword:0
"Folder"="Extended_ROM"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ EXT_FLASHDRV\FATFS]
"FormatTFAT"=dword:1
"EnableWriteBack"=dword:1
"EnableCache"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ EXT_FLASHDRV]
"DriverPath"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\EXT_FLASHDRV"
"LoadFlags"=dword:1
"Order"=dword:12
"Bootphase"=dword:2
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\EXT_FLASHDRV]
"Profile"="EXT_FLASHDRV"
"Index"= dword:1
"Dll"="OEM_FLASHDRV.dll"
"Prefix"="DSK"
"Order"=dword:13
"IClass"=multi_sz:"{A4E7EDDA-E575-4252-9D6B-4195D48BB865}"
It's possible that this is what's causing some people problems with Titan Reloaded 1.3.2 though. If you've already used Titan Reloaded 1.3.2, you probably don't have to worry about this. It might not even be the cause though. Most people are having no problems with it.
Also, based on someone's post in the 6.5 ROM thread, you'll likely want to remove this file from the kitchen before adding in an adobe reader package:
SYS\OEMAPPS\ppc_adobereaderle.exe
Titan Reloaded installs GoogleMaps from CAB during customizations. Since Google is likely to upgrade the app often, I'd recommend that you just download it and install like you said.
Those are the only caveats I can think of for the packages that you mentioned.

x2 .. I find that loading programs as CABs or during customizations
is a damm cool and a better idea then loading it all in the ROM,
just having that options to remove something is a very good feeling lol
FYI: I got the ok from s10onn2o to upload a clean built 6.5 beta ROM
not kitchen .. the ROM is what I use .. got a few things fix and a few more stuff
cleaned up.. also has some basic missing apps, WM Office 6.1 + notes, Adobe,
sweet TF2D dialer, etc.. etc..

Heh, I've got a little more patience than "Give it to me now!" but yes, this does sound very nice. The omission of Office was also something that was really bugging me about 6.5.
In the meantime I ended up playing around with PPCkitchen and WOW are there a lot of packages. Too many actually. It takes me 15 minutes to go through them all. The build I'm running today is pretty good, but I still wish I was running WM6.5. I'm sure I'll come across your ROM once you've got it uploaded. XDA is rapidly becoming one of my favorite sites (and not to mention a huge time sink!!)
Anyone can add office to 6.5. Just get the oem from BuildOS and put it in the oem folder for beta 4,
Wow, its that easy huh?
I think I'll just do that then! This place rules!

Developing new tabs

This may be a really stupid question, but is it possible to create a tab for practically anything? I know they have updated the Weather Tab in the Touch HD to pull more weather data, and there is also the stock tab where you can get stock info right from the tab. My question is if these tabs can be formatted to show anything from an internet source or feed. For example sports scores or news. I've seen this in Bell's UI for the TP, but is it possible to do if you can find the right source? I don't know how to program and wouldn't be able to do this, I was just throwing it out there as a question to see if its possible. Thanks!
does anyone have any ideas on this?
I'm wondering the same thing. Some tabs on TF3D like the People and Mail tab are pretty far from useful. It would be great if these could be edited or replaced.
It's entirely possible. I've stumbled onto docs and dev tools for writing your own tabbed whatever on this site. It wasn't of interest to me so I don't know where they are offhand but a little searching should bring them up eventually. Maybe check the wiki, also.
I'm really intersted in this so I can make some useful tabs. I'm so sick of the music tab!
I've been keeping an eye out but haven't seen anything useful in the way of docs or info yet. If anyone finds some info could they please post links here?
Please!

Yes, I am interested in developing new tabs, too. Seems to me that developing a visual voicemail tab that would work with the youmail.com service just makes a lot of sense to have on a phone.
I asked that question before, and got the following links in response.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479910
Unfortunately, I've got a ton of VB6 experience that does no good here. I'm willing to write some good psuedo code, if there is anyone with LUA experience that can help me with the tab.
Whoa guys and girls you have no idea what you are asking. This is not something you do by editing a tab a little bit. Creating new tabs will requires you to be able to create mode9 files from scratch and have some real experience with lua coding. Only one who's done that on this forum is D-man (calender tab). I've been working with xbox on the rhodium manila editing mode9 and lua files I can do, but creating them from scratch is very hard and will consume a lot (like a whole lot) of time. For someone with experience it will be hard, and I'm ready to team up with someone who thinks he can but it's probably a project of weeks or maybe months. But hey I might be wrong here , 12

Question on How to Theme

I was wanting to know if anyone can explain to me how to theme for the Evo 3D. I have not themed for a phone yet but I would like to start and to learn how. I have no problem reading a lot and doing a lot of testing and trial and error. I just would like to know if any themers can give me a head start on where I can begin. I have a lot of great ideas.
I am somewhat experienced in C++, and CAD programs as I am a Mechanical Engineer but if it's required to have a greater knowledge in those then it would be great to know more. At least I would enjoy learning it since I'd be doing something I enjoy. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Also I understand we can't apply full themes until we have s-off but it seems people have ROMs and Themes done already so I would like to take the opportunity to start working on my own as well since I am sure I will have to learn alot.

Theming requires mostly graphics design. You're changing images inside the Framework-res.apk and Systemui.apk. Each phone runs differently, so this information may be slightly incorrect, but if you take a deodexed ROM, you will find inside the .zip, system/framework/framework-res.apk>res>Drawable-hdpi. This folder is where most of the changes will be. For individual apps, you open the app (via a file manager, like 7zip) and open res > drawable-hdpi for the images.
The hardest part (for me) are XML files, this is where the C++ knowledge will come in handy. This is for changing text colors and animations in the framework. Most of what you'll change though *should* be inside framework-res.apk and Systemui.apk.
Now, something new I found out is if you're running Sense, then you must modify the Rosie.apk that's included (I think.)
Thank you as that is very useful, but since this would be my first time actually messing with a phone like that. What program works best for extracting a rom and what should I use to pull the information from the rom.
