Does anyone know what the Radio Rom is for the T-Mobile MDA Vario II.
Especially the dutch one.
Since unlocking I'm experiencing speed problems on UMTS / HSDPA....
Any other suggestions are very welcome.
Cheers!
Hoi
I'm using the latest 1.20.31.10 radio ROM from the Wiki. Works perfectly on my dutch Vario II. No problems with the phone functions, and i just did a speedtest on Web n' Walk: 427kbit/s.
So i think its reccommendable. No problems here with the fast battery drainage some people are experiencing.
Problem solved, there was a problem at a HSDPA antenna.....
I am using the patched radio on my Dutch VArio II, the 1.13
No problems sofar, D/L speed is aroung 560 Kbps on 3G.
BTW am I not supposed to get faster speeds ?? I mean I have no Web&Walk so my connection is not capped to 64 Kbps.
Or do you need a HSDPA subscription in order to use the high speed ?

Nope, that is because you share the bandwith on an antenna. I have had speeds up to 810 Kbps but normal for me would be 410Kbps.....
The weird part is that they aren't capping speeds at all. I have the standard 9.50 euro Web 'n walk subscription that is supposed to be capped at 64kbps, but i have the same speeds hellejoep reaches, sometimes up to 800kbps and never below 400kbps when on 3G. Nothing wrong with that.
ionide!
What is your location? And how did you subscribe to Web&Walk: in the T-Mobile Store or by calling the customer service?
Utrecht, but that doesn't matter, i have high speeds all over the country. I renewed my subscription in a store. I'm not the only one who had this "problem", lots of people with the 9.50 subscription report high speeds. Maybe they don't cap HSDPA yet?
Thanx for the info... I need to go get it, the problem is that I can do it only from the 1st of December (don't ask)
what do you enable to get the revA speeds?
I am on the 3.2.3 rom and the .3 radio.
I just ran "mobilespeedtest" and ger 349 to 645.3 kps.
What am I doing wrong?
I have already.
.. select data network (#777).. click edit.. click next.. click next again..
under username: Yourphone#@vzw3g.com
pasword: vzw
without any sucess.
I am sure there is a simple setting I forgot about.

It is on by default with the latest Radio ROMs if it is available in your area. Anything above 256K/sec I believe is REV A speeds. I get any where from 150K to 1meg depending on the signal strength.
you people need to clarify Kbps/KBps/Mbps/MBps.
Big difference between bits and bytes...I've been getting 600kbps or 84KBps (plently fast for surfing) with crappy signal strength. I'll have to do some more testing with it.

I use http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed so what ever units they are using is my units that I quoted above.
EDIT: with a 30% signal strength on EVDO I get 194 kbit/sec but have gotten upwards to 1 mbit/sec with full strength.

That is not correct, as non RevA has speed bursts that is capable of getting up there.
I'm running the stock VZW rom and with full EVDO signal (non RevA) I've gotten speeds in excess of 600kbps

Anyone else test on this site with both PIE and Opera?
PIE gives me a consistent sub 100kbits while opera gives me over 300kbits every time...
When tethered to my laptop.. 1000kbits +
its all about how efficient the browser you use is.
1xrtt, 1xEVDO, 1xEVDO-REV-A Lesson ,,,, again
Ok here it is,
I Do this for a living so here it is for real : 1xRTT shares voice resources, download speed max is 153.6kbps, up is 56k. 1xEVDO is an overlay with dedicated radio channels and up to 4 T1 spans connected directly to the front of the DOM (Data Only Module) with max theoretical download speed of 2.4mbps and max upload of 153.6kbps, this due to the reverse being similar to standard CDMA. REV-A is same sort of DOM but now called a DOM-A and has a max theoretical download speed of 3.5mbps and upload of 1.8mbps because the reverse link is true EVDO. If there is only 1 T1 on the DOM you will not exceed 1.54, actually 1.2 because of overhead bits, and remember also about EVDO that speeds drop more sharply with signal loss than 1xRTT does. There is no REV-A active indicator on the 6800, but it is now on by default, so if it is there you will have it.
Anyone got an upstream test I can run to test for RevA speeds? My download speeds have not changed since I upgraded.

Yes, it's in bits not bytes
Ok, I just did a speed test using DCD's 3.2.5 ROM with radio 3.24.50 ROM.
===
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Download Speed: 1861 kbps (232.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 588 kbps (73.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
===
SETUP:
I hooked up my phone via USB, went to Comm Manager, turned on internet sharing, clicked "Connect" on the screen. then I disabled all my other network adapters, and unplugged any internet cables. I disabled the WiFi and the Internal NIC, and unplugged the cat5 from the NIC. Also, I got my IP from 'whatismyip.org' and ran a WhoIS, and it was a Verizon IP. So this is the most clean/variable free test you can get. I had full bars too, but I do not know how far I am from the nerest tower. Just thought I would share that.

I would have liked to see you run the speed test on the device with at least PIE in the same location at about the same time to see the difference.
It certianly seems to me that while the phone can achieve fast speeds, the software and amount of free resources based on other applications running will have a major impact on the speeds you see. As I Posted earlier the speed in IE, Opera, and while tethered were dramatically different.. all performed within 5 minutes of each other in the same place.
Just because you dont see major speed on the speed tests does not mean Rev A isn't working.
I didn't have to do anything for my Rev. A to work. I am tethered to my laptop and get amazingly fast speeds with only 1 bar of signal strength. I am in Des Moines, IA and love my Sprint PCS!

Delicious!
Sorry couldn't help it. pIE = pocket Internet Explorer. ie: the default browser.
I'm seeing the following from http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ w/ the USB connection to my laptop.
Download Speed: 1201 kbps (150.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 453 kbps (56.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
dcd 3.2.5
3.42.30
im getting 1600 kb/s download speed with wmwifirouter and 1000 kb/s with pdanet. havent tried ICS.
I'm in fort worth tx and my speeds fluctuate from 50 to about 350kbs. The prl is 60613 and the rom is 3.56, radio is 3.42.02 and pri is 2.04-003. The last month or 2 the data speeds have been slow as molasses. That's tethering with pdnet and pie on the phone. Could somebody throw me a bone on this. Thanks.
I just got the phone and I cannot find the right radio to use in order to get 3g speeds:
. What is the best radio to use in order to get 3g and HSUPA speeds over 300 kbps/sec? I use to have this speed when I got my AT&T 8525 that is ancient now. How do I get the speed I use to have off the 8525 on this phone?
Thank you for your responses in advance.

Do you mean HSDPA?
(downlink - tower to phone)
or
HSUPA
(uplink - phone to tower)?
Is your posted speed from the downlink test?

well as u see i am new at this. i read a lot from these forums since i love the htc product. but i don't know how to tether or anything like that. i just installed the radio i just displayed hoping to be able to get 3g speed. but it stays at edge at all times.

and the site u used to determine my speed i just found off google is a downlink site. and still my speed is slower than edge speeds.
Keep in mind the tower that is servicing your phone can have crap for bandwidth too.
I was near Gretna, VA on a trip and had full bars on 3g. I swear they had a dial-up modem on the other end of the tower though. Google maps were loading up slower than a typical edge connection.
In the end, it may not be your radio that's giving you trouble.

I tried it through out Atlanta today. Different towers and several areas of metro Atlanta. West Atlanta, North Atlanta, and East Atlanta.
Keep in mind my phone is the htc touch pro. I do not have the brand names from t-mobile or AT&T.
Should I try a different rom or is that a useless effort?

You may have a hardware limitation. I noticed on the various Rhodiums that were around and for sale, the unlocked Touch Pro 2's stated they were not ATT 3G compatible, although they were 3G compatible. Apparently there are different implementations of 3G.
You may want to look into whether that is something in the firmware associated with the radio (Radio ROM) or the hardware itself.
Sounds like sprint
If you have the SPRINT service or a SPRINT phone, you do not have the "3G" icon enabled. This is because SPRINT uses the EDGE network and not the 3G network. They say that their network now (REV A) is actually what they consider 3.5G and is supposed to be faster than regular 3G . I have no issues with my phone with the speed, however, if you want the 3G to display, find a custom task bar and that icon will change to the 3G. Once again, SPRINT does not display "3G"
Hope this helps.

i thought of that too. that this rom my not have the 3g icon, but from time to time it will show "G" and then back to "E". and as far as i know ... i shough have close to 300kbs or more for downspeed. and i right?
thanks everyone for all of ur input. i'll look into all of it and get back to u. thx again.
If you have a standard Touch Pro (not Fuze or T-Mobile version), there's a very good chance you accidently picked up European version of it. European version will have European 3G, which is not compatible with US 3G frequency bands. Look into your documentation and see if you phone supports the following:
AT&T uses 850/1900
TMobile uses 1700/2100
European frequency bands are 1800/2100 if I remember correctly.
I have the Fuze and radio 1.14.25.35, and I get 396kB/s with only 2 bars...
Oh, and I'm in Connecticut.
lame!
something has got to be wrong man....i live hours away from 3G and if i even look at my phone wrong i lose reception!
BUT i got 281-392 Kbps!
Have you called your provider?

That could be true, but the documentation i have states:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
the 850 and 1900 Mhz should not matter if its in europe or in usa, right???
but there is a new updates. i Used IE on the phone and my speed is incredible. i was able to test 3mb and it came back with speeds higher than fast 3g. just like my old phone. but under opera it would not go any faster than 40 kbs. i used another browser called skyfire. and i went to mobilespeedtest and got: . i went to cnet brandwidth test and got 3632.3 kbps. lol. amazing it looks like opera was my problem. hear are all of my results:
opera: (after testing using the other browsers now i get these results)
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
.6745 mbps
IE:
mobilespeedtest
.408 mbps
Skyfire:
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
3.2588 mbps
is it me ... or does your phone get warm when u use the net for a long time???
I doubt that the results are valid with a browser like Skyfire. It does all the rendering on the skyfire server instead of on your phone. It's probably reporting the rates in between the test site and the Skyfire server. Skyfire is fast, though; it's much faster at bringing up a full webpage than any other browser. You can open up espn.com in about 5 seconds.
I've always had good luck with my radio [see signature]
I apologize for this thread as it might not be in the correct area, but i figured this is the most relevant for this topic...
I have 2 questions so lets start with the first:
1) For some reason I'm not getting HSPDA network working on my phone. the best speed I've posted is about 3.2Mbs, which is not HSPDA speeds, or at least not as fast as it should be. It also says that i'm on 3G as opposed to H...is there a reason for this. Keep in mind I live in LA and they have one of the strongest networks for HSPDA (at least according to the rep I talked to).
2) Is it possible for us to get HSPDA+ speeds with a radio update. I don't know too much about the radio but it would seem to me like that is what it would take to get the HSPDA+ working as I'm assuming that it is the radio that determins your speed and not the hardware...though I could be wrong.
Just a thought, and a response would be awesome.
Thanks in advance guys and gals!
Those are HSPDA speeds. HSPDA+ should net you faster speeds (in theory). My g1 started hitting those speeds around 6 months ago when they started the upgrade over in Irvine (where I work). From what I know the upgrade was software based in areas that were already HSPDA which means they must have recently flipped the switch in your area. I may have benefited by being so close to the goog's Irvine office. I live in south LA county and they haven't rolled out HSPDA+ service there yet. Still slow 1.5Mb's
intersesting, so it is a switch, so therefore on a vibrant getting HSDPA is possible with an updated radio...?

Based on what I've read HSPDA has a theoretical limit of 3.5Mb's whereas HSPDA+ should deliver 7Mb speeds. So yes it's possible to get HSPDA speeds on the vibrant but not because of an updated radio, as the hardware and software supported HSPDA right out of the box. The new G2 is touting so called 4G speeds but it's technically just HSPDA+. Either way you slice it, once their entire network is upgraded most people should be seeing speeds in the high 2, low 3Mb's.
I received consistently 5 MB down, and 500KB up in the southern Akron and North Canton area, which is south of Cleveland, OH with the Vibrant.
Guys, do you think I should call Sprint?
My Speed Test result for 3 bars/MAX bars of 4G:
Download: 2.40 Mbps
Upload: 1.41 Mbps
Ping: 121 ms
My co workers Speed Test result from his OG EVO with 2 4G bars:
Download: 7.60 Mbps
Upload: 1.39 Mbps
Ping: 245 ms
He is banking much higher speeds, what gives?!?

Yeah, that did it.
Weird though, I am in Herndon, VA using a Herndon Server....terrible results...I now just changed to Reston, VA (which is farther) and I got 5.39/0.53
Guess closest isn't always better...heh
I can't even get 4G in my home/neighborhood and I live just down the road from Sprint's world headquarters. I called and got the standard line about they are working on improving connectivity. I did hear from a friend that works at Sprint (actually Ericcson) that he attended a presentation recently on Sprint's network changes that are happening. They are going to be operating on multiple bands and many upgrades to their towers over the next year to two. He made it sound impressive. Anyway, with a full 4G signal, I'm only getting about 3mb/1mb consistently.
