Whats up with my speeds? Kind of pissed - HTC EVO 3D

Guys, do you think I should call Sprint?
My Speed Test result for 3 bars/MAX bars of 4G:
Download: 2.40 Mbps
Upload: 1.41 Mbps
Ping: 121 ms
My co workers Speed Test result from his OG EVO with 2 4G bars:
Download: 7.60 Mbps
Upload: 1.39 Mbps
Ping: 245 ms
He is banking much higher speeds, what gives?!?

try a different server, the 'closest' server is not always the best...
washington dc seems to be a very good one for me.

Yeah, that did it.
Weird though, I am in Herndon, VA using a Herndon Server....terrible results...I now just changed to Reston, VA (which is farther) and I got 5.39/0.53
Guess closest isn't always better...heh

I can't even get 4G in my home/neighborhood and I live just down the road from Sprint's world headquarters. I called and got the standard line about they are working on improving connectivity. I did hear from a friend that works at Sprint (actually Ericcson) that he attended a presentation recently on Sprint's network changes that are happening. They are going to be operating on multiple bands and many upgrades to their towers over the next year to two. He made it sound impressive. Anyway, with a full 4G signal, I'm only getting about 3mb/1mb consistently.

Speed Tests..Very Weird!!

My first post so I hope it is in the right place!!!
Speedtest.net using Opera 9 reports the following speeds:
T-Mobile USA: EDGE (E symbol, but HSDPA set to 'on', no H/3G symbol)
Download: ~1500 kb/s
Upload: ~ 50 kb/s
Rebooted phone and tested several times, and different days.
My setup: HTC Advantage original unlocked now upgraded as:
Michy's latest ROM, WM 6.1, Radio 1.57, SPL 1.2.
Everything works beautifully!! But the speed reports are not right??!! Or is it just me.
The question is then: What is the most reliable speed test site for MOBILE Phones...
And thanks to all the great folks on this site...my first attempt at upgrading went very smoothly due to the tons of info on this site.
I always use Mobile Speed Test ( http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1 ). I always get about 150 kbps on Edge, and between 750 and 1000 kps on 3G/H. My best test ever was 1200. Those numbers match up well with the expected high speeds from E and 3G/H.
Happily I haven't seen Edge for over a month now... AT&T turned 3G/H on for a good chunk of the East coast about a month ago and now everywhere I go on a regular basis has high speed access. Yay!
See it here: http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/ Zoom in one click and check the 3G checkbox. There's now a huge section from northern Virginia to Portland, Maine with non-stop 3G. I didn't have high-speed at home before, way out in the country, but now I do.
Thanks...techntrek
Still in holiday mode!!!
Thanks for your reply, will check on advised site.

Evo 3d - 4G Speed Tests

Can anyone who has the phone with 4G coverage post their results? If possible, include an estimate of what your evo 4g was getting before in your area.
Thanks!
Here is a result from inside my house. I am consistently getting between 7-8 Mbs down. I didn't have the EVO or even a 4G phone before, so I don't have any comparisons.
Edit: It won't me post links/pictures yet, so it 7.86 Mbs down and 1.50 Mbs up.
No images taken, but the difference is pretty minimal to me....
My evo required the rtsp proxies to be set to 0.0.0.0 to get full speeds (6-10 mbps in atlanta ga). But the EVO3D seems to be getting the same speeds even though the proxies are still set at the factory ones.

I'm in North Jersey (near NYC)
hope more results are posted today after everyone has a chance to play with their phones
Boston 7679kbps down; 1453kbps up, with the og Evo I remember getting like 6 down and around 1000 up
i got 9700 d/l
and 1000 u/l
nashville, tn
I have no coverage at home and it connects but no bars at work. I haven't been to school where I have full coverage since I got it.
At work where it connects but no bars I get 2-2.5 down, on the Evo I got 1-1.5. Not much changed except the phone.
i try it in a bit when im at best buy here in my house my evo use to get 1 bar of 4g that was good enough for 4-5mb down and 700k up. the 3d wont even pick up 4g in the house.
I don't have 4G in my area yet (Milwaukee, WI) but i want to comment on overall radio performance. Cell & Wifi signal strength is noticibly better then the OG Evo. I have obersed better speeds overall and my Wifi signal is ALOT better. I'm thinking that with a bigger battery, HTC might have increased power to the radios for better performance or they just finally got the hang of the this SOC.
Jacksonville, FL
Here in Jacksonville FL over the past few days:
Downtown (San Marco area) average 8-9 down -- 1 up
Avondale/Riverside: 5.5-9.25 down -- 800-1 up
I got the 5.5 on a good signal but during a peak time I guess at 8pm
Much better then some of the worthless / expensive ISP's here.

Speedtest: Anyone else have the EVO 3D in Los Angeles?

I see some people in other areas posting really high speeds compared to mine here in Culver City -
Using the speed test app, these are my speeds in Culver City
On 3G
Download 262kbps, upload 66kbps, ping 116ms - this was at 10 AM and about the same at 2PM
On 4G
Download 1561kbps, upload 480kbps, ping 116ms
I just tested 3G again at 10 PM
Download 398 kbps, upload 550 kbps, ping 116ms
On 4G
Download 443kbps, upload 53kbps, ping 116ms
In Gardena, I get 5-6Mb down and 1-1.5 up on 4G. Haven't run speedtest on 3G there.
At home in San Pedro, 4G is non existent and 3G isn't much better.

I live In Arcadia, west of Pasadena, outdoors on 4G, I get around 6-8 Mbps routinely. Don't check 3G cause I never use it. Indoors I'm about 2-3 Mbps.
I work in Marina Del Ray (hows that for a commute), the 4G signal is so-so... around 5 Mbps.
Culver sucks as far as signal. on the 10 freeway between the 405 and all the way to USC its pretty weak.

Thanks - that commute sucks - I'm usually heading to Pasadena for work. If I had work in Arcadia, I'd be going to Woodranch for lunch!
I am in fountain valley. I get 4-8 mb at home. It is amazing I get perfect service in one corner and I move it two feet the 4g signal starts crapping out, lol. on 3g I am between .75 - 2.0 mb at home, it just depends on the time of the day.
In Encino i average
3g
Down-1370
Up-694
4g
Down-7679
Up-1412
Ive noticed Northridge and Encino have the best 4g in the San Fernando valley.

I'm right next to you in Sherman Oaks but not getting anything close to those speeds. Did you do anything like reset your data or call Sprint to have them do a reprovisioning?
Got Long Beach on lock here. I average around 800-1300kbps on 3G. On 4G, its more like 3-5mbps.

Where I work in culver city I don't even get 4g. Nor on my commute or at home. If i go a couple blocks from any location I do. My 3g signal is pretty good everywhere if I'm outside. Inside can be ok to horrendous.
Im down here in San Diego and get consistently lower speeds than any that have been posted so for. And there is NO 4G at all.
I called Sprint and they are sending me a free airave in hopes that it will give me a better connection.
I cannot even talk on my phone at my home because the calls get dropped. I had two calls dropped WITH Sprint technical support on Friday.

So when LTE comes to town

So when LTE comes to town will we lose HSPA+???
Nope they will co-exist just like edge and hspa+ do today.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
It is my understanding that even when on LTE you use GSM for phone calls and other non-data related transactions. Either way, they're not building an HSPA+ network to tear it down in 2 years.
Just checking. I don't care if I don't get LTE capability for the next 2 years, I just wish they would strengthen the signals they already have in my area.
Montgomery AL <------- never getting LTE.
There is lte here and my h+ works great they will have to coexist, they only have 2 lte phones out, a lot more use h+
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Our phones, from what I can tell, are not LTE compatible. Only h+.
When LTE arrives hopefully we will see true HSPA+ speeds
LTE
I'm actually strongly considering taking my i777 back for the Skyrocket. Even though I don't have LTE, locally, it is only a matter of time.

I suggest you don't.
Hellraiser is probably never coming to the Skyrocket. The Skyrocket has a slower SoC in general so you will notice more stutters here and there. The i777 will get ICS first through XDA.
Even if you got it today, an integrated LTE modem with the SoC won't be coming until next year for Qualcomm, and around 2H 2012 or 2013 for other companies. You won't be missing much, seeing as how by the time you do get another upgrade in 20 months you will have a step up in everything as opposed to a step up in data speeds and a step down in processor/developer support.
****, I don't even have H+ yet.

Don't fall for all this 4G marketing crap from AT&T. They are not even close to offering true HSPA+ or LTE speeds so no need to worry for now. When they offer the true speeds it will be time to change your phone anyways.
HSPA+, or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access, is a technical standard for wireless, broadband telecommunication. HSPA+ was first defined in the technical standard 3GPP release 7.
HSPA+ provides an evolution of High Speed Packet Access and provides data rates up to 84 Megabits per second (Mbit/s) to the mobile device and 22 Mbit/s from the mobile device.
3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data. It is based upon GSM/EDGE and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System/High Speed Packet Access (UMTS/HSPA) network technologies.Features of LTE include an all-IP flat network architecture, end-to-end QoS including provisions for low-latency communications, peak download rates nearing 300 Mbps and upload rates of 75 Mbps, capacity exceeding 200 active users per cell[3], the ability to manage fast-moving mobiles, and support for multi-cast and broadcast streams.
Ahh... i wonder what 300mbps feels like...
Hell, I wonder what 21 Mbps feels like, let alone 300.

Local ATT store told me that LTE will be available in SC around February of 2012. Even with this info I still have no desire to switch out for an LTE phone. (I'm still within my return policy.) I have a verizon LTE hotspot for school that can hold me over. I spend 90% of my time at work or at home, so the HSPA+ is plenty to fill in the gaps when I can't use my high end connections.

You should be able to experience 21mbps by connecting to a broadband wireless network
Most Broadband Internet providers have these speeds (except DSL I think), now 300mbps download speeds.....that would be awesome.

We got LTE in Chicago. I'm from the suburbs and literally on the west side of my town we get around 3-5 Mbps but when I get on the east side (closer to Chicago) I've hit 13 Mbps. I have not been in Chicago sine i got my new phone but I think that 13 is pretty sweet but i got 36 Mbps at my house so its nothing amazing to me

I get anywhere from 2mbps to 7mbps down and usually around 1.1mbps up on my phone's data connection. (Latency around 100ms) This is perfectly acceptable for most browsing and applications, including streaming video.
I'm really hoping they keep HSPA+ around for awhile. I get killer battery life with it and the speeds are more than enough for 95% of everything I do with my phone.
In metro Detroit I only get average 1.4mbps down and 1mbps up...is my phone defective or is the network just ****ty here? The coverage map shows I have full hspa+ coverage

What's your 3G speed like?

I live in Portland, and we still don't have lte here. Also the 3G is pathetic at rush hour here. I would like to see some data from other places too.
Midnight 12 am:
Ping: 82 Download: 1695 kbps Upload: 870 kbps
Rush hour: 10am-6pm
Ping: 330 Download: 10-50 kbps Upload: 2XX-3XX kbps
At rush hour, I can barely use google (mobile mode). Let along opening a website. It would also take a long time to search a place or plan a route for google maps. My EVO is pretty much crippled at those hours. Now show me how bad/good is 3G at your place! So I can feel better or envy you
Yeah, that's about the size of it in the Philly metro. Though I usually range from about 400-800k, depending on time of day. You can forget using any kind of data in a moving car, by the way. It's laughable.
LTE was supposed to launch here months ago. It's in the surrounding sticks (redneck central Pennsylvania, redneck northeast Pennsylvania), but not here. And frankly, the local VZW LTE puts Sprint's to shame, in the cities where I've been able to play with Sprint's.
My ETF would be about $280 right now, and that upcoming GS4 on VZW is looking mighty tempting.
