ROM Install Help on 8525

So I recently downloaded the "RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_[1].15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship" ROM for my 8525, in hopes that it will provide me with a more stable pda/phone enviroment so that I may do the work I need to without having to hard reset every other day or so.
When I try to run the ROM install, I follow all the insturctions but when the update starts to run, it shuts my activesync connection off so the update can't run and throws back an error that it lost connection with the device.
Any Help Here? Thanks
PS: I love the idea of being able to use my 8525 for all my work and play needs, but if this update doesn't help make the device more stable, I will have to sell it for something that doesn't crash this much.
hey..iv got same problem.. i think it maybe cause we are using windows vista (thats the only information i can find about it).. i wanted to update ma rom aswell
I'm using XP Pro.
try running it on another system...if available...
anyone know the solution to this?!
OK, have you installed HardSPL ??
Check my SAFE WM5 upgrade guide, if you follow the procedures in there you should be fine.
Yeah, as far as stability goes most the wm5 roms out of the box aren't going to be the best. with any rom i use sktools to tune it up for performance/stability settings. It does this automatically so you don't have to find various registry keys. So don't think just because you are going to another rom everything will be okay.
Read the wiki, search the threads, you will find answers to all your problems.
As far as you not being able to connect what is your spl number? Also, have you tried hard reseting then connecting or trying another computer. I had the same problem when downgrading a black 2.5 with hard spl 2.1 ( i had to downgrade to send it back to cingular). I ended up just downgrading to the highest version of cingular rom which is branded AT&T. It looked like a pretty good rom but I did not play with it.
he does not need hardSPL(at least i dont think so) he is just runnning an update for another cingular ROM, its still the same CID...try running it on another system, i had this same problem and it worked on another system....

HardSPL will protect him against a faulty SPL flash if it occurs, a newer SPL is likely to be in the ROM update aswell as a newer radio possibly. Having the same CID doesnt matter because if the radio or SPL flashing procedure messes up it can create a bricked device VERY easily (corrupt SPL or even a corrupted CID/Radio BL). Besides if he already has HardSPL that would explain why the RUU doesnt reconnect when the device is in bootloader mode.

point well taken...=)
you mention, since he has already gotten HardSPL, why would that mean his device doesnt reconnect in bootloader?
put it in bootloader first and then run the update...
make sure you disable usb connections with active sync put your phone in bootloader and run the update might as well go with WM6 its a lot more stable than any WM5 rom i have played with .
OS crash
I run ROM install then computer shuts itself now my 8525 show hi true color with red/blue/white i tried to hard reset to solve but till hi true color what should i do?

I've run there updates on my 8525. If the computer is shutting itself down, try another computer. This sounds odd. More of a computer problem then a Tytn Problem.

I'm having a problem connecting ActiveSync over USB. When I first got the phone I was able to use that connection. Then I set up BT ActiveSync. I believe at the time I could use either USB or BT, but it has been a while. BT sync was so much more convenient for me that I haven't used my USB connection except for charging the phone.
Today I tried to get set up to upgrade the ROM, but ActiveSync doesn't seem to work over USB anymore. I turned off BT on the phone. When I plug it into my laptop's USB port the laptop makes a sound indicating it sees the connection. It makes a different sound when I unplug it. I also see the orange charge light come on on the phone. I usually charge the phone this way when I am on the road since I don't carry the wall charger with me.
I think at one point I installed a river that I fdound here to access the phone in bootloader moder. Other than veryfying the phone connected this way, I never did anything with the driver. IT has been so long that I don't remember the details. Could that be affecting the connection for ActiveSync?
I have made sure my firewall is inactive. In Windows XP Device Manager I see an HTC USB Sync device under Windows CE devices. Would it be safe to remove that device?
Any ideas how I can get USB ActiveSync to work again?
Is it totally crazy to try the ROM upgrade over the BT connection?

have you tried changing the setting on your phone "USB to PC"? I would try this first before digging to deep

You may want to try using the Hard SPL v7 and then install your ROM. I did that and all went smooth as silk - six times now. I have been browsing ROMs to see which one suited my needs an personality, and it has been fun. You can find that on my FTP site at ftp://xda:[email protected]/xda_dlz/
This is a dynamic IP Address from a cable modem so two things are true
1. It is subject to change at any time.
2. It is not as fast as some of these speedy servers
But, I do know where it is.

I had tried this yesterday and checked the Enable advanced network functionality box. Today I unchecked it and suddenly the PC saw a new USB device (HTC Sync USB, I think). It still wouldn't sync automatically so I manually executed /windows/repllog.exe. This time it connected.
Some observations:
- After the connection was established the the name of my 8525 was changed to something different (something like WM_ComputerName1, Where ComputerName is my computer's host name). I changed the name back and was able to re-invoke repllog.exe and sync with the old name.
- If I disconnect the USB cable from the phone and plug it in again ActiveSync doesn't connect until I manually run repllog.exe. It does work when I run the exe on the phone manually.
I went ahead and started the upgrade process after connecting by running repllog.
Executing the RUU file from the HTC site first put SPL 1.11 on the phone and left the phone in bootloader mode (with the tricolor screen). I left the phone with bootloader screen and followed the instructions (although by now ActiveSync had shut down so the part about the AS connection that the installer asked for was not true). The progress bars appeared on both the phone and the PC. It took a few minutes to complete, but the update was successful.
After the upgrade I was able to sync over USB without any problems. I am now syncing my contact from Lotus Notes and setting things up to my liking. Once I got over the USB connection problem everything worked fine!

installing a rom without activesync

I have a cingular wizard with WM6 TNT 1933 (Build 18533.0.7.0) w/ TouchFlo. My battery recently died (thought it was bricked for a while, then tested the battery and bought a new one). My wizard won't connect to activesync through a usb cable(I have the advanced network checked OFF), and I don't have a bluetooth adaptor on this laptop. I have wifi here. First off I want a different OS because this one is too loaded and there isn't enough free memory, a bunch of apps I don't need. Also I'm wondering if a new OS will let me connect to activesync. Is there anyway to load one onto there, or am I just F'd?
is the phone operational now?
im sure that sktools had a repair activesync option then you can flash whatever
Bluetooth
You can use bluetooth to connect with activesync

However ROM flashing must be done by direct USB connection, you didn't read the question carefully.
If you start RUU and plug the USB to your computer, the RUU screen on your wizard should display USB. If this is the case, you can run RUU directly.
If that doesn't work, try it on a different computer.
what about flashing a new rom via bootloader? have u tried that?
Htc fuze (raphael)
I know this is an old thread, but it came up when I searched this problem. I didn't find a lot of info easily, so I just tried a few things.
Problem: Cannot connect to ActiveSync because phone boots into Windows 6.5 beta and is locked at the screen saying the trial is over. When connecting it to the computer, the computer detected a device but ActiveSync could not connect.
Solution: Remove battery from phone and re-insert. Turn on while holding Volume Down button to get into serial mode. When you plug the phone into the computer in this mode, it should switch to USB mode. This allowed me to run RaphaelWrapper and then repeat the Volume Down boot once complete and reconnect to load the RUU for the AT&T stock OS.
If your phone does not switch from Serial Mode to USB Mode when connecting via USB, there is most likely a problem with the phone's USB port or a more serious problem than described above.
I hope this helps someone else! =)

Please Help I Have Done Everything But Cannot Get My Prophet To Connect Via Usb

I even took the battery out for 2 hours... put in another phone charged to maximum and still same problem. Please if anyone could help.. i love this phone cant let it die like that.
hey body, check if you have installed ActiveSync on your PC if u r using WinXP, or if u have installed Windows Mobile Device Center on your PC if u r using Win Vista.
If not then install it according to the OS of ur PC then try to connect ur phone to PC again.
Or you may try to use another USB data cable?

already done that before a hundered times
suggestion..
what prophet do you use.. 818 pro?
try this
1. device is on..in bootloader screen..
2. connect your device with usb cable to pc/laptop
3. press the comm manager button + soft reset button + green button (phone call button ) all at same time for few second
4. if done successfully, you'll get into splash screen
5. then flash with wm 5 rom or flash with any wm 6 rom. ( last time, for me i use korand 1st edition wm 6 clean rom & my prophet is restore to normal again)
* if step 3 doesnt work, press the camera button instead of comm manager button..(camera + soft reset + green buttons)
one last thing. did you have hardSPL your device? if so, hope it works

Nice try !!
My further advises:
1. Use another USB cable and must use the rear panel USB port of your PC.
2. Then go to bootloader ( follow my steps precisely in my post 1) and plug to PC, on the left bottom of your Prophet screen
you should see the word "USB" shows up within 2 seconds.
3. then flash PVtemp downgrade to WM5, never fail!!!!!

My problem was that I had done the HardSpl on another machine(office) and i was loading the ROM from another machine(home). All of the processess listed above are true but you have to be careful if you hardSPL your device from one machine then dont disconnect it from USB because thats what gave me all the headache. And the battery level is also important I would recommend atleast 70% power before u do the ROM updates.

Why not try to remove the ActiveSync of your home pc and reinstall it?
well, i never done that before..
so i guess its better to run all the upgrade using only one pc we always use..
another case solve..

Sorry, but your conclusion doesn't make sense at all. HardSPL is installed on your Prophet and has nothing to do with your PC or the drivers installed on that machine.

quite agree with you..
maybe duderootz only explain for what he think cause it
i think this device is so delicate
depend on how old have we been use the device, models, conditions etc..

I agree with you that is why I took the trouble to rectify. it should be unfair to let other users wondering with misbelieves.
In this case it is assumable that his homePC lacks some USB-drivers that his officePC does have. A solution could be to install AS 4.5 again on the homePC. In my experience, ActiveSync is a tricky app, especially when it has been updated from an older version.
And connection through bootloader-mode uses other drivers then a "normal" ActiveSync connection. It sounds as if those "non-ActiveSync" USB drivers are missing.
This same issue causes the Vista connection problems.

Need help with Activesync/New Rom/Hard SPL

Dear all,
I recently bought a HTC Touch Pro (MDA Vario 4) from T-Mobile.
Although the phone is nice, I do not like the interface T-Mobile has.
So, I decided to install a new ROM (Romeos beta 1.12 looks really nice).
I downloaded this ROM + Hard SPL 1.90, also I installed ActiveSync 4.5 (newest version for XP pro).
Hard SPL cannot find my phone when it is connected via USB, this is why:
When I connect my phone to my computer (via USB), the computer finds the phone (and adds a virtual harddrive) this is all working as intended. ActiveSync also detects the phone and tries to connect, it DOES connect but only as a guest...as such I cannot use Hard SPL, cannot install the new ROM, cannot sync Outlook contacts etc etc.
Being a guest on ActiveSync I can still look inside my phone (via added virtual harddrive) but that is it.
I am kinda new to a smartphone like interface, but it is damn frustrating this wont work.
When I google for help, all I see is that people (when they connect for the first time) get a activesync wizard who helps them make an account for it...I dont get that at all.
i reinstalled activesync several times, but with no success, I still get connected as guest instantly.
I would love to know how to resolve this.
if anyone got ideas? Please let me know.
With regards,
David
When you connect there are three settings that will show in your MDA Vario:
- connect to ActiveSync
- connect as hard drive
- connect as modem
Choose connect to active sync. If your MDA Vario is connecting directly in ActiveSync (and no wizard pops out) then it connected to it before. You could go to active sync and go to File->Mobile Device and verify if your MDA Vario exists in there. If yes, delete it then connect your MDA to start the wizard.
Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
I forgot to mention, that I always choose Activesync when connecting.
But my options in Activeync 4.5 are down to a minimum, I cannot recall being able to go to file->Mobile Device, will check tonight though.
Thx,
Regards,

You sure can flash the rom and spl even as a guest, i've done it several times and can confirm it working. Have you tried just executing RaphaelCustomRUU.exe?
Also, did you chose ActiveSync in the phone's usb connect popup?
there's also a way of flashing by booting the phone straight into bootloader mode and then executing the flasher. Dunno if it works for stock SPL though.
Couldn't hurt trying;
1. Remove the battery
2. Re-insert battery
3. press vol down and power button to turn the phone on
4. Connect usb and flash with RaphaelCustomRUU.exe like usual.

well... i got stuck real fast =_='

wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners
i followed it very precise after reading evrything through twice..... and when i run " Easy Hard-Spl v7 beta v0.1" it says: "ERROR[260]:Connection. the update utility cannot connect to your PDA phone. please check that your usb cradle/cable is connected properly between the PC and your PDA phone. check the following, 1that the PC is connected to the PDA phone, 2 that the PDA phone is connected to the pc".... and it is... so what have i done wrong?

make sure you dont have the sim card in i have gotten that error from that also you may want to try and flash a stock rom first if you cant find it heer go to either your carriers web site or HTC their sight has many stock roms. ive been doing this a few years now but i am no where as good as most of the ppl here. good luck
didn't work, and now i tryed to do that pc sync as well ono doesn't work
do u have active sync or windows devive center on your computer ? have you been able to connect and view files on the phone through your computer using any of these programs? if so have you gone to htc and tried to flash the stock rom? you must remove sim card and memory card. next do a hard reset use the stylist and stick it into the tiny hole just to the right and slightly above the usb port then follow the instructions on the screen. after that connect the phone to the computer and link to active sync. then reinstall the stock rom. let me know how that works after that you should b able to flash hard spl then download it and just open it on computer it will install on the phone by itself dont load on memory card or phone memory directly let it do it through the computer.good luck let me know how you make out good luck
ps i know it may sound silly to reinstall origonal rom but sometimes there can be a corrupted file preventing you from upgrading, and its good practice lol
Does your phone can run the windows?
I mean does your pphone boots correctly?
or it is in the tricolor screen?
if it works, why you are trying the that new HSPL?
use the olipro version V7
be sure your PC has netframeworks 3.5, your phone dont has the storage card, have enough battery, good usb cable, and Windows XP.
if your device cant boots and its in tricolor screen... please search in the wiki to your country Stock rom and falsh it.. once it boots... apply the HSPL
+ Que PPC...
as you are the master of the hermes maybe you can help me i have a herm 100 that wont get past the screen align on any rom. you tap the X in the corners then it comes right back. i think it may be the radio but i cannot find anything that will work and stock rom doesn't go past 11% on install. spl 1.40. olipro ipl-1.01 m 05 s 04 B o6 . it does connect to active sync and i can open all the folders in it. all the links to radios are dead and i think i have to down grade spl first to install radio but i cant find that. anny help would be great. ive flashed the hell out of my fuse kaiser and pure and no problems but i rely liked this old phone and want to bring it back to life
