Hi there
this is sort of ROM development related, just so happens that the cook is HTC!
just got off the phone with a technical support specialist at HTC and been told that an update to the phone is imminent
just thought i'd give everyone a heads up
Yes, I also recently asked HTC support about update and they said new ROM is going to be released in nearest weeks.
Good news for us, less good news for the ROM cookers.
Now I can't wait for two things, the new Elite RC3 and the new ROM by HTC .
Thanks for the update duke_stix!
yes but what updates is it going to bring maybe winmo 6.5
yeah and wich one gonna be Windows Mobile 7 ??? that also a good quastion we should ask Microsoft are't we???
Doubt that...it'll prob be something we wont even notice!
I don't know what to say.. to another user some guy from HTC costumer service said that a new ROM will be released in december. December passed and no ROM released.. So..
i guess this is some sort of strategy. htc says "we will be releasing a new rom in very short time". And everyone becomes "oh ok then i can live with my problems on my htc pro now, as there ll be a new rom soon." and customer is now happy.

Exactly. that's why i haven't announced their promises anywhere %)
today i phoned htc europe support because i have to return my phone for repairing the g-sensor; by the way i asked if there is also a solution for the gps-lag and he told me that a new rom will come out in the next weeks (there are on testing it actually) and gps will be part of it; i don´t want to comment this statement but maybe a really solution will come ? - lets keep our fingers crossed

Wait and see
By the way
I am Mr. Blue, and Ill be the one holding my breath.

Hmm, I don't believe that nobody from this forum is not on the short list beta users ...
Good man, share with others !!! OEM is enough
Yay! Maybe finally due to a large number of customer complaints about the GPS, and the general lethargic nature of the phone (including music skipping, etc) HTC have decided to fix things. (Wouldn't hold my breath though)
I have called HTC today again to complain about the GPS and other things.
The specialist with whom i talked said to me: A new rom will be available for the EU soon. At the end of februari with fixed GPS. So let's wait ...

yea, they are going to release a new ROM with all the GPS fixes that the great chefs at XDA discovered. We know they pay attention to the forums here, why put in the RnD when all you have to do is see what we did to fix our phones, and implement it
The real reason is probably that Iphone takes too large market share,
The real reason is probably that Iphone takes too large market share, there will be no room for HTC high end device, if WM6 doesn't upgrade.

So it was supposed to be "late december" then "january" and now "end of february"....
Well we can't be surprised with lack of support from HTC; it's always been like this. They have a line-up of 25 new phones appearing in 2009. How much time can they allocate to support post-sales problems for each model? Maybe one working day for each model?
well just my 2 cents. i was at att the other day and i saw a guy there from att head quarters testing wm7 in my area. my buddy works there and said they have been testing for a while. i did see it with my own eyes. looks totally different.
wm7 or 6.5?

My S2 is due from Expansys next week (hopefully )
I'm using all this unwanted time to research what I'm going to do when it arrives. I see lots of posts here talking about battery issues that only seemed to surface after an upgrade to KE1 or KE2.
So, will I leave it alone and wait for KE<some number bigger than 2>? If all the reviews I've read used KE0 (is that the name of the one from the factory?), then it looks like that's the one to stick with for the moment. While I'm on the subject, I don't think I've ever witnessed such positivity for any smartphone ever; hopefully it's not all hype.
All and any advice welcome. But please be gentle - I'm coming from WM6

I heard about you people but I though you were extinct years ago.
Best advice is to forget what you know about smartphones based on your experience with WM. Just explore and figure things out for yourself about the device because once you figure it out you'll never forget it. Explore the market for apps, unlike WM the app market for Android is actually functional and has a wide variety of apps and most are free.

Hey, I'm STILL on WM6!
Ok, so most people say upgrade to KE1 (KE2 pulled) when take the phone out of the box.
So it was deffo only KE2 that had problems then - KE1 won't start eating my battery?
And don't knock WM6! I'm writing this on a 4-year old TYTN II ;-)

Good question and it has been something I've been thinking about while I wait for more sim free GS2s to come back into stock. Didn't realise KE2 has been pulled - interesting.
I'll see your tytnII and raise you with my HTC Wizard with rom flashed from WM5 to WM6.5 that I still use

Me too ... my old HTC Touch HD have served me well through 4 years, good battery, accurate GPS and several drops to the floor ... haven't been able to kill it yet
But I will get my SGS2 tomorrow and know for sure that I will fall in love instantly
The plan
Thanks for all the replies - some good advice here.
I think I'll leave the phone as is for a while and familiarise myself with it and Android before I start fiddling.
In a former life a long, long time ago, I used to be able to spell "UNIX". I suppose this means I won't be able to resist messing about with rooting, new firmware, hacks, etc. Maybe I should stick to my TYTN II ?
I just want to make sure that the people that have problems are only the few of many who need to speak out. This is for people to speak out about NOT having issues.
GPS isn't an issue, at least to me.
According to this very small poll you have a little over a 75% chance of getting a good one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=7329
Here's another regarding upgrading to ICS that shows a little over 80% having no problems.

Having said that, I have returned two so far.

I'm finally getting my 1st TP on the 19th, and hopefully it doesn't have any issues. I can understand the first 'batch' having trouble, and hopefully I'm not part of that. Wish me luck, I suppose.
Good luck man! You'll get a good one. Hater's gonna hate around here...just don't listen to it. You have to remember also that people will tend to seek out a forum for support when they are having problems before they go on to give positive feedback. Especially with the average person who doesn't frequent forums much.

Mine is flawless. WiFi is just as strong or stronger than my HTC Inspire. I'm at work so have not played with it too much, but I just took it out of the box. I love this thing. I will report back but so far with what it has done, I do not have any problems. Also, I have not tested GPS, mainly because like you, I do not care about the GPS functionality I knew this going into it. So you will get a good one, I have faith!
Reading here I see so many gripes and had so many worries, but now that I have my tablet in my hand all of those worries are relieved, this thing is fantastic. In my opinion way better than the iPad that everyone keeps telling me I should have got instead.
Android Forever.
Mine is also flawless. 100% so (hope I dont jinx myself.)
Mine doesn't have a single defect or flaw.

Once I factory reset mine after the upgrade to ICS, no issues with the device. GPS is fine as far as I am concerned. Sure, it's not strong but the previous one wasn't stellar either. WiFi I don't see an issue with at all.
And I even have a serial # on mine
working great here
Wifi is definitely weak-ish on mine, but no big deal. Everything (besides GPS which I haven't tried) else seems to work great.
Not gonna lie, its flawless over here. Though I can sympathize for those with problems. Really bad luck.
Mine works Great!

Really? Flawless? ... cmon everything has flaws to some extent.
Now, sometimes they are tolerable or a "meh whatever", but every device has flaws.
My washing machine has some UI flaws, but nothing I can't live with. Same for my car, and computer OS (linux), and ...
So, everyone should simply read between lines. There will be "Flawless" primes, and also completely "Fawked" primes.
Some issues are more real than others, but they all have issues in the eyes of the person holding it.
I finally got a perfect one...
I'm not having any problems - because I have not bought one yet... ... being happy to not be an early adopter has it's advantages.
I do sympathize with those having issues though!
No issues here. Very happy owner!
also perfect here no problem what so ever
Two happy owners
My wife and I both bought one and the docks. Both 32GB gray. We both upgraded to ICS, and both work and look flawless.
The only complaint I would have is the java. This thing has the power to run the full java virtual machine, instead of just the phone based java. That is not a fault of the tablet and my wife and I both are extremely satisfied - no - better said thrilled with the Prime. I think as Asus (however its pronounced ) releases even more firmware updates, it will get even better. I upgraded mine from a Nook Color that I had rooted with CM7, and my wife decided on this over an iPad. She's very glad she chose this over the iPad.
RR II
I'd like to thank EVERYONE for their input, even posts outside of this thread. I'm glad that I was able to see a positive outlook about the Prime as well as problems some people had as well, just to know what to expect in case something went wrong. This thread specifically makes me excited for my Prime coming in late tomorrow, and I can barely wait!
Thank you again to everyone! (Would "thank" everyone post-by-post, but I'm limited to 8 per day.)
i bought mine yesterday and i am very happy with it.. havent got the ics update yet because turkish update hasnt been released yet.. i am so excited about the ics update as i have tried cm9 on my sgsII and saw how amazing the ics is. This thing is great enough to make me happy as i always want to have the best.
Edit: I just realised this is my first post eventhough i have joined and have been following xda developers for a year..
i highly suggest being very carefull because many defects with this evo, my camera doesnt even zoom in and take pictures correctly.....this is insane. i will never give in again, samsung all the way baby
user error? mine works just dandy! recorded the whole Devils celebration over the rangers and too kstills at the same time. zoomed in and out perfectly.
That's tragic, you made the determination that there are lots of defects based on your experience with the phone you got. Seems kind of silly. I would say based on the number of phones shipped, and the few comments on defects I have read in ALL the forums I visit.
In all honesty, both Samsung smartphones I had were buggy. Not just defective, but permanently borked in one way or another. GPS that doesn't lock? Yep, I had one.
Don't swear off one company just because you got a lemon. Samsung has its lemons too. When life hands you lemons.. send it back for a good one
what do i do guys, return with htc... they said 2 week wait
sprint doesnt even have in stock yet, any suggestions????

only problem with my camera is that sometimes it over saturates the picture, but it also works out to my advantate, i take pictures when its getting dark and the grass looks nice and green as if it was a sunny day. Lovin it.

since when has SS become the benchmark for good quality phones? They had a plethora of issues when the S and S2 first released as far as I'm concerned. My cousin got his S2 in Jan/ Feb this yr and it is buggy as hell and by that time the phone had been out way too long.
But anyway my suggestion: return your phone and wait for the S3. I think you will never be able to be satisfied w the quality of HTC phones because you have already formed a conception about them. Even the buggiest Samsung phone will be better than an HTC good phone according you. Return it and get another phone. At the end of the day it's your money your experience you should get what makes you happy. And by doing that you are doing goods as well since there are less negativity going on around.
Cheers.

I think the devs will release the alpha version for who ever wants it. Seeing the latest update, that wifi works via 'SD installation', I will surely try it. I would also give them feedback, so they can make it better. Because that is what we all want. If it will ever become a fully working port, I can not say. I am not a dev. But I do have full confidence that the devs will try to do so .
Good luck, I will wait patiently!

i dont know, all the people are say 18th june come or 19 th june come i saw mike thread
Rebellos already replied on the date comment, basically saying that development can take longer than expected. They ran into a bit of trouble, for instance Mike's Wave usb port problem. It took a couple days to be replaced/fixed. So the mentioned date of 18th of June couldn't be met anymore.
The most important thing to take from this, is that the release is near. As far as I know, it is more likely in terms of days than weeks. Just be patient.

I'm a bit pessimist in general. I doubt that we'll se a decent usable release of ICS on Wave. I mean to be used every day as a normal phone os. Yep i think that my (our) Wave will sadly die with Bada on it.
With months of development we still have nothing, just modem driver problems and no planned release in the near future.
PS: of course i'd love this project and iwould donate as many others for a fully working release asap.
"Usable" can be different for everyone. If the port lags a bit, I don't mind. If I can't call, bit of a downer, but who still calls these days...? The most important things for me are whatsapp and skype. When they work via wifi, I'm already satisfied.

in the alpha release modem will not work, I'm 100% sure
maybe in a future beta, but we'll must wait probably a very long time, probably will never happen
it's very difficult to write a driver from garbage... Rebellos with Jetdroid guys have a hard work to do...
modem will never work. The same will happen as it was in Froyo 2.2. I have no more hope. Wait for 1 year and nothing has happened. On ICS again waiting very long time and nothing from this. When will come the alpha or beta version out, I'll probably have another phone
While spending time in Taiwan I thought I would try to reach out to HTC and see if could be put in touch with someone at the company. I figured that while I was in the country it would be worth to shot to see if I could contact someone sympathetic to the ROM development (or even the Jetstream) cause.
I felt that as someone who has (an albeit tiny) body of HTC device development work that I might merit a vaguely personalized form letter that politely amounted to go away! I certainly didn't have any illusions of grandeur nor am I naive to the fact that companies regularly want to distance themselves from perceived failure.
It began with a tweet directed at HTCDev requesting a tour.

I had hoped for some resemblance of a human reply, but I am left disappointed. I am happy that I tried.
So there you have it. I'm sure other better people than I have tried more earnestly to contact HTC, but I thought I would share my lone attempt. The most disappointing thing about it all is that it is not very surprising.
when the jetstream was new and the disappointment fresh, i tried getting their attention through their facebook page and emails. they blamed at&t for the lack of development and ignored the device from that point forward. its nice of you to try.
on the some-what good news, last i asked show_p what's shaking (2 weeks ago) and he said he's got something planned to fix the crashing, and he should get to it in two weeks. (that means this week) i don't wanna bother him just yet, but maybe he'll get the job done.

last i asked show_p what's shaking (2 weeks ago) and he said he's got something planned to fix the crashing, and he should get to it in two weeks. (that means this week) i don't wanna bother him just yet, but maybe he'll get the job done.

He is a persistent and hard working guy. He'll probably get it someday.

when the jetstream was new and the disappointment fresh, i tried getting their attention through their facebook page and emails. they blamed at&t for the lack of development and ignored the device from that point forward. its nice of you to try.

Cosidering this is how HTC does updates, they have no right to blame AT&T.....

To all whom are interested, (minor gossip, insider story), no I'm not HTC employee nor contractor. ok ok may be a next next next door neighbor, which I purposes walk across to look at their pretty receptionist (I'm just joking too).
Anyway, I am in China, HK, TW, consumer grade manufacturing industries, hence would like to share these two possibilities.
1) I suspect this tablet was an AT&T initiative from the very beginning, An AT&T owned project, then open tender to couple of designers and manufacturers, notably HTC, Asus, etc and HTC won the job. All development costs will be billed $$$$, man hours, prototypes, tooling, ALT, MoQ, etc. Under such conditions AT&T would be hard pressed on costs for a rom upgrade, because many man hours not only on developments but testings thousands of accumulated functions and features.
2) But there's also a possibly of 2nd scenario, which is HTC self designed and build the Jetstream and knocked on many Telco's door to sell it.
Under my observation of North America availability only, no where else in the world, it's more likely a AT&T initiated project. So, no money no upgrade.
Come to think of it, it has 4G, first amongst tablet? It must be an AT&T initiative.
End.
