Deactivate headphone jack - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

Hi,
does anyone has an idea how to deactivate the headphone jack in wm 6.1?
I wand to do so because sometimes the issue occurs that my prohpet is in "headset mode" but i do not have a headphone in the jack. Once this issues occurred i insert my headset BUT it´s already trash and so i do want to buy a new one?
Last time i solved the problem by reflashing. It takes time BUT i work.
Even soft resets didn´t help.
Thanks.
CHeers,
...

are you sure is not a hardware problem?
for what i learned by experience is that this "stuck in handsfree mode" is fairly common on this model.
Check this:

hmm,
maybe your are right, because last time i went to a shop and tried to solve the issue with an headset but nothing happened. Even the screwdriver at home didn´t work ;-)
But maybe if you disable the function of the jack it prevent the problem...

PLEASE HELP! No sound with phone - mic and spkr don't work!!

I posted this over at PPCPassion too, and someone suggested I try here...just really looking for help. Here's what happened. I woke up, and my phone (TMo XDA with PPCTechs 64MB upgrade, 128SD card), which had been left on all night, doesn't work as follows:
-When I dial a call, I can't hear the other phone ringing through the speaker...and when the person answers, I can't hear them...nor can they hear me. The phone indicates 'Dialing' and then the duration time starts when they answer
-When I get a call, my phone rings, but when I answer, same as above, they can't hear me and I don't hear them
-But the speaker and mic DO work...I tested this using a voice memo.
-Also, same symptoms whether using spkr phone on or off
Any thoughts on this? It 'fixed itself' yesterday after I performed a back up (I was going to do a hard reset/restore). THen today same problem. Did the backup just to see if somehow that solved it, but this time it's not working. Before I do the hard reset I want to see if anyone else has any thoughts.
I really dont want to have to send this to TMo since my unit has 64MB from the upgrade...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. FWIW I'm not a developer so if you recommend technical things please explain them thoroughly :0
And THANK YOU in advance!
TM
Had the same thing happen to me. Thought of hardware failure at first, tried similar things and came to similar conclusions. Tried SD Backup, then hard reset. Not solved. Înteresting that during backup one dll file seemed to be stuck (think it was a dll, although dont remember name).
In my case solved itself when I remapped the RECORD action to the left button. Very strange......
Any permanent solution or reason would be welcome....

How did you go - the symptoms are the same as dropping pin 19 to ground (for a car kit), you lose speaker and built in mic so make sure 19 isn,t shorting with 18, Steve
Speaker & Microphone not working
I encounterd the same problem - from one day to the other mic and speaker stopped working. When I connect power to the device using a USB sync cable mic and speaker are turned on again. It really seems that the XDA is set into car mode. :?
Assuming that pins 18/19 were shorted, I have cleaned the connector but this didn't help.
There's another thing which has happened to people: it appears the connector for the headphones isn't all that sturdy, so after a while the device thinks the connector always stays in. Not sure that would explain this behaviour, but just thought I'd mention it.
Same problem happened to me... help
How do you solve this problem? I have tried to plug and unplug the headset and did a reset... still the only thing that comes out of the speaker is the ring. The only want I can use the phone or hear anything is to use the hands free... Please help.

Fortunately, my device was still under warranty. I had to return it to O2.

Hi
My Qtek seems to be similarly stuck in the headphone mode. Any idea how to get out of it? Would removing the headphone socket entirely help?

Problem with headphones

All of a sudden there is no sound coming out of one of the headphones on the headset. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and there is a way of fixing it.
You need to try another headset on the xda which will ascertain if it is the heaset, the socket or the motherboard.
I have tried with a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter and a sterreo headset and still have the same problem.
Does that mean the problem is with the socket or motherboard ?
and if so is there an easy way to fix ?
Could this be software related ?
I have the same problem. I updraded the ROM, which involved a hard reset, but that did not fix it. I thought it must be the headphones, so bought another set (same O2 ones) but the problem remains.
Curiously, the buttons on the handset still function.
Dont know what to try next, it sounds like a hardware problem.

Speaker no sound

Hi,
the speaker dosn't work anymore. But the strange thing is, that it is working in the bootstrap selftest.
Any help welcome

Hey folks,
isn't there anybody who can help me?

You could do a complete backup, then hard reset then see if it works.
It is probably due to a bad contact in your phone headset jack. Try plugging in your headset to check if your phone or pda works with the headset. If so, then try plugging-in and unplugging the headset plug to switch the jack connections back to the speaker. If this does not work try putting a drop of WD40 on the end of the headset plug and insert it in the jack a couple of times. (Do not spray directly into the jack). It might just clean up the contacts and get the sound back to the speaker. If all this fails, you may need to open up the phone to fix the jack.
I hope that you do not have to do the latter.
Best of Luck
hi all,
nothing of this worked.
But the Speaker works in the boot-menu Hardware-Test
ah
Hi mate. I've just had the same problem as you, tried repeatedly inserting and removing the jack - no luck. Used WD40 on the jack - no luck. Resigned to taking it to bits I removed the battery cover and noticed the little gap which leads through to a gold-looking connector by the headphone socket. I stuck my stylus in there and gave it a big wiggle and hey presto! Sound returned. Give it a go, you never know. Hope you get as lucky as I did.

Mal,
It seems that your problem is not a hardware one because your speaker actually works on boot-up. Do a search on this forum using the keyword "sound". There are a couple of posts on Aug 21, from other people having the same problem and one of them managed to get sound back by reverting to an earlier version of a software that was causing the problem.
Maybe you have a similar kind of problem.
Pat
Hi,
do you have a link to the topic. I only found articles to sound problems of the XDA-II.
thanx

Urgent! Pls help me, no sound on XDA II

Dear all,
Please help me out. My bro brought a second hand XDAII and when I upgraded his rom to WM2005, there has been NO whatsoever SOUND on his XDAII. The touch screen, phone calls, and any other sounds are totally mute (without any further software installation). My guess is that I had messed up something with the registry or with the system files. Any1 knows how to check this out?
BTW, I have been up-downgrading between different ROM versions and nothing helps!
Please, any kind souls, help me before my bro starts choking me to death.
Thank you in advance

Dear,
Yeah, that's strange, when the headset is plugged in, all the audio comes back to life again. Why is that?
Try inserting the headset and pulling it out sharply a few times, I think maybe the socket is stuck in headset mode, I may be wrong but it might be the answer.
It still doesn't work
I've tried that a few times, but it still doesn't work
Thank you anyway.
BTW, any other possible solutions to this
Thanks in advance
Ken
Finally it's resolved
Thanks to cruisin-thru, I finally managed my XDA to play audio sound. My trick was exaclty like what cruisin-thru suggested, except for that I did a little twist when I inserted the headphone into the socket
Now that I am assured it is hardware-related problem, I will try my best to have it exchanged for other device
Thank you cruisin-thru.
Ken
I've same problem but audio function just Mute (not after upgrade)
I do all Softreset and Hardreset not thing change
The finaly I do and the all audio came back is "Remove Battery"
from device then put it back.

Lost external speaker sound

I have completely lost the sound from external speakers and coincidentally this has happoened since upgrading to AP4 though I am reasonably sure AP4 was NOT the cause of it. But am posting to see if this has happened to any of you. I was using an external stereo headset in the 3.5mm jack and after pulling it out, the speakers on my 7501 don't work. The weird thing is the phone will RING out the external spekaers but the actual phone calls, media player or notifications won't play out the external speakers. It is behaving as if the unit thinks a headphone jack is still in the 3.5mm slot when nothing is there. The USB port headset won't work either which leads me to believe the unit definitely thinks a 3.5mm headset is plugged in when one isn't. Everything else works perfect. Thoughts? Solutions? Please help -- can't send it in for warranty work as I cannot downgrade back to the original HTC WM6 build because of the AP4 upgrade.
Plenty of people already experienced this problem. Try to use the search function next time.
Nevertheless, here's the solution (probably):
First set up you Athena to play some music, so you can hear immediately whether the sound is working.
Then, try to poke around in the 3.5 jack using the headset (or something similar in size). Inside the jack there's a loose contact which makes your athena think a headset is still plugged in, even when it clearly isn't. After some poking, your sound should be working again

To avoid similar recur best consider a good stereo Bluetooth for music and phone.
I’ve encountered before, repeating inserting a 3.5mm jack may not always resolve the issue.
You guys are the best! (Actually I did do a search but couldn't find the problem referencing the Athena). Anyway, wiggling the headset jack about twenty times in and out reset the loose contact and restored sound from the speakers. I will not be using the 3.5mm headset again. Thanks for the help!

This problem has beset all HTC devices from the earliest SPVs, a matchstick or paperclip often help but a BT headset is easier.
Same problem .... but still not solved
These guys really are the best.
I got the point as to what the problem actually is, Still after poking the 3.5 jack in and out many times the sound (songs n calls) is still not working.
though the incoming ring is working. any suggestions pl .
(Anyway because of this problem i downgraded to spl1.2 and now using mincy's 2.04. it even solved my TCPMP not playing flash vids prob.)

Just to make clear what is happening, the 3.5 socket mechanically disconnects the speakers when you plug in the earpiece. over a period of time the spring contact looses its springiness. this leads to a poor contact and off goes the speakers. by poking this contact you are moving it till contact is made. you are best stopping using this socket if it is showing these signs before you loose sound all together. I am sure you can have a new socket fitted but I bet it isn't cheap. As already stated its best to use bluetooth.
Hope this makes things clear
Jay
If you can get your hands on one, you might rather use a headset with a extUSB jack. For instance, the standard headset from the Touch Diamond works fine on the Athena.
