Right after being hacked with Zagg on my cover I thought a thread on the best alternatives. Please try to keep it clear of just comments on Zagg's product and turning this in to a slagging thread....
Comment on the alternative product, any flaws and how easy it is to install.
Also hows the screen cover.....

I've only tried the Invisible Shield so don't know how the other ones are, but here are some other brands of full body covers similar to IS. I'm not even sure if they sell one specific for the HD, but here they are:
Best Skins Ever
Bodyguardz - compared to IS or BSE, i've read this one is thinner, clearer, has less self-healing properties, has less grip, is slicker, has less-orange peel look
Clear Coat
From what I've read, IS seems to make the best ones as far as quality and cut, however, I did end up returning mine. I think no matter which one you get, you're gonna have some general annoyances like corners not being completely covered, rubbery feel, bubbles where the frame lifts higher than the screen, etc. I think I was just expecting too much and was thus disappointed.

First of all, hello. I'm new on the forum and this is my first thread.
I'm buying the Eee Pad Transformer in a few days and I have came up with a few worries.
So I read some threads on this forum regarding my problems but still I didn't find a exact answer, so I decided to post a few questions here.
1. What case is the best for the TF? I need a case that opens all of the ports, and can hold the device on 2 angles: one 90 degreas and one around 20-30, you get the point.
2. Should I buy a screen protector? Do I need it? Isn't the Gorrila thing enough on the screen?
3. Should I root the TF? Why should I need the root? What are the pros and cons of rooting your device?
Please answere to as many questions that you can.
Thanks!
Welcome...
For Better results you might want to add a subject you your posts.
Best case is purely subjective. About half the threads in this forum are on cases so just go to the front page and read away.
Screen protectors are also a bit of an opinion. I don't use one, lots of other people do. If I were going to get one it would probably be to pick up some glare reduction but right now I haven't seen any matt screen protectors that are fit to the Transformer so I just go bare.
Rooting is up to you. It lets you use some applications and access different parts of the system than you could without root access. Honestly if you don't know what root is you probably don't need it. When you bump into something that won't work without root the process to root only gets easier the longer the device is out so probably best off waiting.
Hope this helps.
thanks
I'm not really a noob in this stuff but I just wanted some opinions.
Thank you for your advices
In regards to cases, i'm not going to go through the accessories forum to find you links as i'm on tapatalk and its a pain, but the kind of case you are looking for are folio cases, of which i believe there are a few being talked about in the accessories forum. You should also know that of those folio cases none of them can be used while the transformer is docked, but if you don't intend on getting the dock then it doesn't matter. For non-folio cases, any 10 inch netbook case will fit with the tranformer docked. For sleeves, leather ipad cases will not fit as the transformer is longer but narrower than the ipad, neoprene sleeves may fit as they stretch and are usually not as rigid and form-fitted as leather or plastic cases.
Screen protector is indeed a matter of opinion, and here's mine for your consideration: some people like the feel of just the glass, and those folks are more likely to say that theres no NEED for a screen protector, and i would tend to agree with them on that point.
-"Dry apply" hard plastic film protectors tend to offer nothing different compared to the stock glass screen, at least not the crystal clear ones. The matte ones will give you more fingerprint resistence and a bit of glare reduction, but at the cost of screen clarity as the matte protectors are "frosted" and break up the light hitting the screen as well as coming out of the screen. The matte protectors also glide smooth under more conditions than their clear counterparts and the bare glass screen due to the texture.
-"Wet apply" soft film protectors will give you a bit of the glare reduction, and can also diffuse some of the light, but not to the same degree as matte protectors. Depending on how well you install it, they can look great or look like crap, but they seem to offer the most protection compared to crystal clear and matte hard films. The soft surface will stand up to more abuse than the hard plastic variants. I have used the skinomi screen protector on this and its not bad, though i personally ranked the feel of the thing dead last compared to a matte protector and the bare screen. It gripped my thumbs enough that after a 2 hour gun bros session my thumbs felt like i had been playing SNES instead of a flat screen with no bumps.
-The abuse threshold of both types of screen protectors are less than the gorilla glass specs, but the point is not that the screen protector is tougher than the screen, but rather if somehow you get those few grains of sand or hard silicate material near the screen, the protector will take the damage instead of the screen. Do you NEED it? probably not, but i would recommend one for a bit of insurance. I have personally suffered a damaged Zune HD, the circumstances under which i have yet to determine today, as it was in a pouch by itself in my pocket. Gorilla glass is tough, but it is neither scratch proof nor shatter proof, glass is glass.
Rooting: if the stock experience for you is nice and smooth, and you don't tend to mess with the inner workings of your devices, then i would say there is no need to root. Personally I am a flashaholic and like to play around with overclocking and themes. I also like to have backups of my OS in case i install some malware or completely bork my current setup somehow via 3rd party software. Other than that, rooting does not currently add any earthshattering features that you must have (maybe the wip reboot to recovery fuction, but if you're not rooted it won't apply anyway). That being said though, I'm not sure what progress has been or will be made on rooting from 3.1 (not sure what the holdup is) but if you intend on dabbling in rooting down the line, might as well downgrade (if your unit comes with 3.1 instead of 3.0), root it and go from there. You lose the ability to OTA, but the community is usually very fast on getting rooted versions of the OTA releases ready to flash soon after they are available.
Sorry for the long winded reply, hopefully it will be a fruitful read for you.

I currently have both cases, so I thought I would post a quick comparison.
This post isn't about describing both cases, you can see that in their respective threads. This is just to compare both cases to each other.
First off, I just want to thank both case makers for making such high quality cases at an affordable price. Both cases are top notch. I would be happy with either one, so this form is in no way, shape, or form meant to promote one over the other.
The Diztronic case looks great. It is the thinner/less bulky of the two. It matte finish is a bit slick, but still provides more grip than going without a case. The case looks professional, and is very low profile. As stated above, the case is the thinnest of the two, and as such the kickstand is a more accessible. I don't have fat fingers, but I do have large hands. I can easily open the kickstand with my thumb using this case, I can't do that on the Androidify case...I have to use my ring finger.
The Androidify case looks great as well. It isn't as professional...but it is cool and fun. It adds a unique style to the device, and I enjoy it. It is thicker than the Diztronic, and less adds slightly more bulk (but not a ton..still a thin case). The case wraps around the bezel a bit more, and due to its slight increase in thickness, may provide a bit more protection for the phone. The androidify case is more prominent and the front of the phone...so it is more noticeable, but as I said it may add protection. Its design and ribbing on the side also provide more grip and a solid feel. The added bulk is not really perceivable (unless the cases are next to each other), except for when you try and access the kickstand. I cannot use my thumb, at all, to open the kickstand. It takes a bit more effort the access this feature.
All in all I love both cases. Which one do I prefer? Honestly I don't know, they are both that good. Plus, even if I had an opinion, I would withhold it. I only want to promote both case makers, because they both produced fantastic products.

thought I would need this thread as well...sorry.
Thanks for posting this! I have the Cruzerlite on the way, and I've been curious how this would compare with the Diztronics case. I wanted grip, so I think I made the right call.

No problem. That's why I posted it!

I got the matte black Diztronic case yesterday and I like it a lot. I never had a case on my original Evo. With the phone being so thin, I like that the case makes it a little easier to hold (if not a bit harder to get to the buttons).
Hello fellow nexus 6 enthusiasts. I would like your opinion on cases and screen protectors to find the ones that best fit my needs if you could take the time to read below:
I have already experienced the horror of breaking my baby (ie nexus 6). A couple weeks ago it slipped out of my hand onto the unforgiving pavement and the screen made a horrific snapping sound. I knew before even looking at it that it was game over for my screen.
After sending it in to motorola and receiving a replacement phone a few days later (at the cost of $175, I highly recommend this for anyone in a similar dilemma of fixing a broken nexus 6), I have finally gotten this awesome phone back up and running and I want to make sure it never gets hurt again!
I currently have: a Ringke slim nexus 6 sf black case with a standard PoS screen protector that came with the case for free.
I am looking to get a very sturdy case. Not that I am planning on launching my phone at hard surfaces anytime soon, but I am definitely looking for some of the most sturdy cases to prevent such a horrific event from ever happening again.
I loved having a battery case on my galaxy s4 from mophie and generally would only compromise the slimness and height / width of the phone for extra battery power. While I do love to keep everything slim, if a case has far superior safety results to its competitors at the cost of adding on a little bulk, I'm willing to make the compromise.
Ideally I would love to invest in a screen protector that also gives me the most protection for the least amount of bulk added on. I've been reading about curved glass plates that can be applied to iphones that are having great results but haven't found anything about there being a version for the n6 yet.
Any advice from experience or general ratings / research would be much appreciated. I have been doing my own research and reading up on my options, but with so much out there on the market I could use the help narrowing down my options.
Thanks!
As far as screen protectors go TG is very hit and miss and I wouldn't recommend messing with them in their current state. I recommend the Spigen Crystal film plastic screen protector. It provides he most coverage (for plastic) and feels the best. I've tried 10+ different screen protectors including glass and this was by far the best option.
For a case there are many OP's in this section but I know you are looking for a heavy duty case. The Trident case seems to be excellent and youcan buy it on amazon here below. I don't like bulky cases so I use TPU cases. I like my SupCase Beetle with the frosted back and the Spigen Ultra hybrid (the buttons suck in the Spigen but it looks nice). I haven't dropped my Nexus yet. (I dropped one of my ones that I had to RMA and it was fine) but I'm sure the case would protect the phone quite well.

thanks for the input, I'll check those out. Why are tempered glass protectors hit or miss? I never used screen protectors / cases (besides battery cases) with the purpose of keeping my phone from exploding lol so I'm only recently reading up on them.
After experiencing the horror of dropping my nexus I never want that to happen again, but it's hard to figure out which cases actually make any difference in a fall. I'm betting my current case would do little to nothing since it's a flimsy piece of plastic, but all the other cases look pretty much the same lol.
screen protectors, they help protect the screen from shattering / cracking, correct? or are they just another piece of plastic that I shouldn't count on to save my phone in a potential tumble?

They prevent scratches on the screen. If the phone falls, the screen protector is generally not going to protect the screen due to the lack of coverage to the very edges.
As for TGSP, I think the only two worth considering are the Orzly or the Jellycomb. All the others are cut too large and will not fully adhere to the screen, leaving a "halo" effect around the edges. Both of the above can be found on Amazon.
For cases you have a wide range of choices, my personal favorite after trying several is the Ringke Max. It's a solid case, IMO better than any Spigen available and will definitely protect your phone. At the same time, it's not overly bulky or large.
Another nice case that not many people talk about, maybe they don't even know it exists, is the PureGear Slim shell. Not as protective as the MAX but nicer looking IMO.
I was lucky enough to be allowed to review the current cases that Artech 21 currently offers for the Galaxy S7. I'll be reviewing the Artech 21 Vivid Arkansas in the Champagne Gold/Black color, the Artech Jelly in Champagne/Clear, the Artech Little Rock rugged case in Black, and the Artech Dallas Lazer in Champagne Gold/Black.
This post is just going to be my brief first impressions. I will have complete, detailed reviews of all 4 cases up in the next day or 2.
First. Not that it directly involves the cases' performance, I still feel this is important. My communication with the company was fantastic. We communicated through Facebook Messenger and their responses were always quick, polite, and to the point. I think customer service is very important, who knows what could happen, mailman delivers to the wrong address, you got the wrong case by mistake, you have a question, or you're just plain not happy with it. It's good to know that the company will be there to promptly answer your questions and resolve your issue.
Now the packaging. It was the same for all 4 cases and very similar to the type of packaging you'd find on the name brand cases at Best Buy. Nothing really stands out. It protects the cases, is simple to open and doesn't have anything unnecessary.
Now on to the cases themselves...
(photo in attachment at bottom)
I'll start with the Jelly Series. It's pretty basic. A clear TPU shell with a Gold, harder plastic trim. The clear TPU, though smooth, is manufactured in a way that it provides a lot of grip. Probably the most grip of any of their cases. And the Gold trim feels sturdy enough to provide good protection against edge drops, it has a loop of gold at the bottom that gives it a unique design compared to other similar style cases. The phone fits very well. It's easy to install, fits snugly, and doesn't feel like there's any chance of it popping out accidentally. So, initial impressions are great. It seems like it will provide solid protection and grip in a low profile package that shows off this gorgeous phone instead of changing the look completely.
Next we'll go with the Lazer Dallas Series. It's got a black TPU shell with a vertically brushed finish on it with a more rugged gold trim similar to the one on the Jelly Series with the same extra bit of gold kinda looping up from the bottom that gives it a cool unique look that brings more gold to the overall design that goes great with my Gold Platinum S7. It's easy to install and fits snugly. It feels like it provides a good deal of protection while keeping a low profile. I keep my phone in my pocket, so it's important to me to keep it low profile. This definitely fits the bill for me. Just like the first. It doesn't have the grip of the Jelly, but still has good grip provided by the brushed finish. Solid case with a unique look
Third, my likely favorite of the four, is the Vivid Arkansas Series. It has a black TPU shell with horizontal ribs that provide great grip. It's a different kind of grip from the Jelly though, Like the other 2 cases, it has a more rugged TPU in gold. However this ones has a thich horizontal stripe, as well as the the loop thing at the bottom also found on the other. Like the other 2, installation is very easy. The phone fits snugly and securely. My phone definitely feels protected and it fits very comfortably in my pocket. It's a low profile case that feels like it could withstand some damage and has a very unique look that I haven't seen anywhere before that I absolutely love. I expected the Jelly to be my clear favorite (no pun intended lol), as it really just shows the original phone but provides good protection for it, but this Vivid Arkansas case looks incredible. I think it's my favorite looking. Not just of these 4 that I'm reviewing, but of any case currently available for the GS7.
Lastly, we have the Little Rock Series. It is BY FAR the most rugged of all the cases. Based on ititial impressions, I would say this case can withstand as much abuse as the hardcore Otterbox cases. I've had friends that give clumsy a new meaning (honestly. Broke 5 Galaxy S5s within one month) that would only use the most expensive Otterbox cases afterwards. He lost the front bezel on one somehow, bought a new one, then found the bezel and gave me his old one. So I had one for a decent amount of time to form an opinion on it. My initial impression of the Little Rock case is that it would have no problem providing that same level of hardcore protection. I'm a complete idiot and didn't know it came with a glass screen protector and broke it poking out the phone papers that were inside the cases in the packaging. Absolutely my fault. I have no excuse. I'll do my best to review it as if it had the glass as well. It has a front bezel that pops out and then back in for the installation. It snaps in VERY securely. To where it takes some effort to install, but feels like I could roll it down the worlds largest flight of stairs without the bezel popping off, let alone the phone coming out. Put simply, this case is obviously designed to take a ton of abuse while keeping the phone from incurring any damage. And my initial impression is that this phone can do that.
So far I really like them. But that may change for my final in-depth reviews. But the initial impression is very good. Though the designs and the looks are entirely subjective, I really like the looks of these cases
Regarding the Little Rock case, I agree that the thing is built like a tank without being too bulky. Excellent protection and feels very sturdy.
But the included screen protector fit is awful, as the edge is like 1/4" in from the edges of the screen. Looks terrible. Plus the case constantly lifts up the included screen protector. Don't bother putting the protector on. A PET screen works well with the case
The other gripe I have with the case is that the LED notification light is mostly covered by the case. They apparently did not measure that well when designing the case.

I waited a few weeks to review these to be able to give a more in depth review.
Zagg Curved HD: http://www.zagg.com/us/en_us/invisibleshield/samsung-galaxy-s7/glass-curve-samsung-galaxy-s7
This is Zagg's tempered glass, edge to edge screen protector. As most of you may know, yes it is dot matrix and therefore the adhesive is only present around the edges of the screen protector.
The application process was relatively easy. Washed my hands to make sure oil is off, aligned the top cut outs first and the rest of it fell in place. I would say it was a near perfect install based on where the home button, camera, sensors are in relation to the cut outs of the screen protector.
I first used it for a week with the RhinoShield bumper case. I am comfortable to say that the bumper case went quite nicely with the screen protector. there wasn't any major lifting except for one of the top corners where there was VERY minor lifting visible. The screen protector wasn't going anywhere even with the bumper case on. The protector felt nice when in use, finger glides just like the gorilla glass.
Onto the not so good points.
Significant loss of sensitivity. I couldn't wait to rip it off but I really wanted to give it a fair chance so I left it on for another week without the bumper case to see if it makes a difference. It didn't. I don't know how, but over time it actually got worse. Made typing and browsing really annoying. I guess because the glass only adheres around the edges, it also left a tiny bit of space between the the protector and the actual screen, therefore when I type it would make this tapping sound. The protector also adds a little bit of thickness to your phone, therefore the home button will be a bit depressed. And because of this bit of added thickness, even with the raised edge lips from the rhino shield bumper case, when my phone face planted in my bathroom, the Zagg protector cracked slightly. Now of course this could be different if you have a more heavy duty case which a more pronounced raised lip around the edges.
Rhino Shield bumper case: http://www.evolutivelabs.com/collec...cts/galaxy-s7-bumper-case?variant=12325884673
There is a video on youtube showing the protection that this bumper case provides, specifically for the s7. Mod Edit: Link removed. Page contains affiliate sales links. Not allowed on xda thanks!
There are more that shows the case with other phones. Their claim is it will protect the phone up to 11ft drop.
As I said above, if you are looking for a case that is somewhat friendly with the Zagg curved HD, this case would do the job.
Besides that, I must say I love this case because it's very light, adds very little bulk yet have a lot of real users backing up its level of protection.
The front and back of the bumper case have raised lips, more so on the back especially on the 4 corners. The buttons of the case are a tad bit harder to press in comparison to the Spigen I reviewed earlier, but it's still pretty responsive.
The only negative is that for some reason, one side of the case seems to be a LITTLE loose (side of the power button); it's not as snug as the other side. From a quick google search, It seems like the same issue exists with other phones and someone posted a response from Evolutive Labs saying that because the case is not made of TPU material, they purposely made the case not as snug such that it's easier to install the case . I am going to email Evolutive Labs about this and I will update this thread when I hear back. I must say tho this looseness is not noticeable when you are using the phone so it doesn't bother me. In fact it makes me feel more comfortable putting the case on with a screen protector since it's not going to bite into the screen protector as much.
Considering the Rhino Shield's price, would you say it's good value?

Hard for me to give a personal opinion since our canadian dollar sucks right now, therefore after conversion it's actually 30-35 cad with shipping.
If I am in the states tho, I would definitely pick this over the other cases that are in the same price range based on the level of protection it provides while being a minimalistic case.
I think they would gain a lot more interest at $20 usd with more color options but then with more color options it may end up increasing their production cost.
